If there’s a real problem with siege effectiveness, then the siege should be adjusted. Basing their damage on player condition damage means if you’re not running a condi build, you shouldn’t be on siege. Which is ridiculous.
Why? Different classes have different roles in sieges in any game…
No, no, no. This was a bug and I am glad they finally fixed it. The damage/condition damage of siege weapons should not scale on player stats. There are better ways to defend a objective, rather than putting condi-builds on siege weapons.
If you want to defend your keep properly, build superior siege weapons and place them strategically.
Then watch as the attackers LOS glitch them to death from safety.
Honestly, I’ve never seen a sup AC wipe a zerg in WvW. Maybe in EOTM… but not a zerg of 80s.
This change needs reverting NOW.
I noticed, hidden in the patch notes “Fixed a bug in which siege weapons that applied condition damage were scaling based on the player’s condition damage.”
I’ll ask you to please revert this change. It clearly wasn’t a bug, and having a high condition damage player on a siege weapon was the only real way to defend a tower or keep without an equal-sized army inside.
Now, zergs will rule completely. Defending will be entirely pointless unless you REVERT this change.
What’s the point of this thread? OP wants to point out corruption. Well duh, companies are made up of humans, and humans are not reliable generally speaking. Could be an honest mistake. Everybody else is like, contact customer support, else kittens.
Yep!!! funny how OP answers others after your question but won’t answer a simple question about support. As many others have suggested to submit a ticket. Seems to be more to the story as pointed out by the player who posted OPs history. Time to shut this down and if the OP truly wants help and assistance, use the support option. I see the thread has already been reported, so hopefully a mod will deal with it.
“Time to shut this down”
If you have a problem with this thread, may I suggest you leave the thread quietly and go about your life.
The issue hasn’t been resolved yet, and I’m yet to see a GM response. Meanwhile my name has been taken by someone else, so what we have here is a situation in which:
1. My character’s name was changed to something trollish without any prior warning or notification
2. The original name wasn’t even banned, as another member was able to take that name
3. The name that was taken away from me wasn’t even offensive in the first place and various examples have been given of similar names still present in the game
4. A selection of known exploiters who have a grievance with me have decided to troll this thread in an attempt to get it deleted or smear my reputation
I’d love to see how some of you would respond if the same thing happened to you. Really, I would.
This thread should just be closed. It is very toxic at this point and all suggestions have been made in helping OP with his problem. Basically OP has to submit a ticket. Please close the thread.
Why are you demanding the thread be closed?
What I don’t understand is THIS REDDIT POST in which the same “mistake” was made: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3wsxb7/character_name_banned_now_picked_up_by_someone/ …has OVERWHELMING support, with lots of upvotes and positive messages from the community.
The same thing happens to me, and all I have is people defending Anet and claiming I’m “trolling” or here to stir up drama.
This entire thread is silly. Warduke needs to contact support as suggested and see where that goes. It’s pointless to debate the issue because ANet makes the rules and chooses how they get applied, and some of that may be subjective with different results depending on who handles it. So work the system. Then maybe get back to us with the hows and whys.
You mean “ANet makes up the rules and chooses to whom they get applied” and “So the system doesn’t work.”
This thread proves that somebody at Anet is abusing their powers – changing my name but not banning the previous name – and you really can’t deny that, whether you consider the name to be offensive or not.
Without posting this thread I wouldn’t have known that the name hadn’t been banned, so I’m glad I did.
But it doesn’t get to the bottom of the issue as to why? If you don’t call it to their attention through official channels, the forum isn’t the place for these discussions, then if someone did overstep they will know someone on their staff overstepped. It’s also possible that whoever changed your name forgot to put it on the lockout list. You won’t know until you ask.
Trying to drum up ire on the forums is really a waste of time. 9 times out of 10 when someone protests this much they aren’t telling the full story and ANet will trot out the dirty laundry as they did with Suck at Love’s ban or the good old days of renames when the game launched on reddit. Your seeming hesitation to put in a ticket first before going to the masses to cry foul is making you not look like an innocent victim here.
What you really mean is “9 times out of 10 the community turns on the victim no matter what, because they want to believe in the myth of a just and fair authority figure”. There’s been other cases of names being stolen in a similar manner:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3wsxb7/character_name_banned_now_picked_up_by_someone/
It’s worth noting that, in that thread, an Anet GM also states:
“In the past; our team was very strict about what we’d allow. As an example we’d censored Girthquake Clamhammer. I love that name; personally. Funny as hell.
Poopy Cat Butt? Censored – too filthy. I Eat Farts? Eww, no.
Now? We’ll allow those. Did I mention funny as hell?
As my boss put it once -
“If dude wants to be known as cat poop that’s his problem; not mine”.
And that’s our philosophy now. This change has been evolving over the past few months as we get feedback on what the community does/doesn’t want to see in game. Essentially; if your name doesn’t express hate and doesn’t violate our game-rating we’re probably gonna let it live on. This includes deity names. Going forward you’re probably going to see Jesus Christ, God, and Allah running around Tyria."So, again, I’m wondering why my name was changed.
And the ONLY way you’ll know that is if you submit a ticket with support and take it up with them. We on the forums can only GUESS as to why. A lot of stalking cases in real life do end up with violent ends, so maybe the moderator handling the report of your name was someone who took the guidelines more literally than what is intended. And maybe that moderator was new and made an honest mistake.
Again, posting on the forums won’t get the reason why for you. Only making a ticket with support will.
Mistakenly banning someone’s name is one thing, but my name was CHANGED, remember, to a completely different name in a clear case of trolling by the GM in question.
Not only that, but now that I know the name I had wasn’t actually banned and is still available, I’m wondering how anyone could think that’s a mistake. This isn’t just someone being overzealous.

Or… You don’t know what happened until you actually get a support response. It’s not helpful to throw around accusations or conjecture. For all you know it was human error, or your account was compromised, or the name was incorrectly made available again by a new staff member.
Support don’t need to respond; you’re making their excuses for them.
Or you are someone who has had numerous named force changed that support doesn’t trust you to pick a decent name anymore.
None of us know what really happened. It’s obvious something else is going on that you aren’t telling us, since you are refusing to speak to the people who can actually help.
I’ve NEVER had a name changed before, actually.
I’m really struggling to believe people are making excuses for the GM’s actions…
Then make a support ticket or move on. Complaining on the forums about a GM’s actions is actually against their forum rules. I don’t care what your reason is, they have the rule. If you want answers, send in a ticket. Otherwise, move on. You’re just stirring up trouble when only you and support know the truth. And considering all the people who have done the “But I was banned and I only swore 1 time” when in reality it was many many times (Anet was posting what people said on reddit to remove the cloud of doubt, at the person’s request) that it’s really hard for me to believe anyone was “wrongfully actioned again”
You want it fixed, send in a ticket.
So you think it’s completely fine for Anet to rename one of YOUR characters without any kind of warning or discussion, then allow other players to use the original name? You think that’s okay?
This is a serious breach of GM responsibility and it’s not even the first time someone’s had their name stolen this way. Posting a thread like this is important because people need to know how the company is currently operating.
It’s astounding that you’re even trying to defend their actions. Actually quite suspicious…

All possibly true, though the fact Personal Stalker was released back to the available names list (As I tried to grab it on my account) means it’s not a actionable name. As has happened in the past with names incorrectly marked for name change or force name changed, then released back for others players to grab. Which is actually what happened in that Proheals comment I posted earlier.
Thus Op just needs to delete his character and create it again. Hassle I know, but probably faster than waiting on a support ticket. I messaged Op as to when the name will drop off my account in 24 hours so he can grab it.
Thanks – this is all interesting and quite disturbing.
It’s now apparent that my name wasn’t even deemed inappropriate, as it’s not been banned – instead, it was just taken away from me and my name was changed to something the GMs thought would be amusing.
Essentially, I’ve been a victim of bullying by the people who are supposed to objectively follow the rules of their company.
There’s a big difference between “personal stalker” and the other kinds of stalker that have been mentioned. The difference is in one case it’s being used in a combat sense (as in stalking your foes), and in the other it sounds an awful lot like predatory stalking. Which is of course illegal and could be upsetting to anyone who has actually been stalked before. Feel free to appeal the name change, but I strongly suggest you get them to give you a free name change and you change it to something else.
So why is there a “Creepy Stalker” in the game? Surely that would be more upsetting than “Personal Stalker”?
Besides, I’m sure even the most humorless person would find “Personal Stalker” an amusing name for a ranger (rangers of course having a pet jungle stalker option at start up…)
And if you’ve had a number of name changes forced upon you, I believe ANet eventually takes away the free name change if your name is reported option and just changes the name (because if you’ve been reported too many times for inappropriate names, then they assume that you’ll just rename it to something inappropriate).
I can see why someone would report the name. Stalkers in real life are horrible and the name may have been flagged because of the reference that could be inferred from that (regardless of whether or not you intended that reference or not).
If this is the first time you’ve had an inappropriate name (whether actually one or not is irrelevant), then I would ask for a free name contract as others have had the chance to change the name to something of their own choice. If you’ve had this happen more than a few times, maybe you should stop and think about any possible inappropriate connotations your names may have for future characters.
As I stated in the original post, there’s plenty of other players with variations of “stalker” in their names, as well as gear called Stalker gear.
The reality of the world is you can’t tiptoe around all the time in case you offend someone. Of course, if Anet was just very strict and clamped down on any name that anybody in the world found offensive, that’s one thing – but they don’t, as myself and others have reported genuinely offensive (racist, homophobic etc.) names and yet we still see them in the game every day.
I personally wouldn’t have reported it. But I could see why someone would. Maybe that someone had had a stalker in the past.
And just because other names are still in the game that you find are offensive, doesn’t mean you can have a name ANet finds offensive. When you see those with Stalker in their name, report them. And I only said the connotation due to the two words in the name, not just one half of the name.
And it could be Player A had offensive name 1, then got told to change. Then Player B names their character offensive name 1 since the name is now free.
You’re missing the point. I don’t find “stalker” offensive. If Anet finds “stalker” offensive, they should block every single name with “stalker” in the name, then change the name of their “stalker” armor.
What’s happened here is an abuse of power.
And if you’ve had a number of name changes forced upon you, I believe ANet eventually takes away the free name change if your name is reported option and just changes the name (because if you’ve been reported too many times for inappropriate names, then they assume that you’ll just rename it to something inappropriate).

Open a support ticket, it’s the only suggestion we can give you. Other than maybe reviewing the naming policy as well.
Reviewing the naming policy?
That’s a good joke! My name doesn’t break any policy. It’s completely inoffensive; as I pointed out there’s ARMOR IN THE GAME called “Stalker” so if my name is offensive, Anet should change the name of the armor too.
It never hurts to be aware of precisely what their rules are. This way when support argues the issue with you (and they might) you are aware and can argue your point accordingly.
I understand that you’re kittened off, but I didn’t do it so chill.
Edit: Also, just because you or I don’t consider the name to be offensive, doesn’t mean anything either. That decision lies completely in Anet’s hands. Like I said, review the policy. It states that quite plainly.
Yeah, I know their “policy” essentially allows them to ban whoever, whenever, for whatever reason. But if they actually continue to do things like this they’ll lose the few customers they have remaining.
Giving yourself a little leeway is one thing, but being corrupt – because that’s what it is, when you apply rules to some people but not to others, or stretch rules because of personal bias – that’s the sort of thing that drives customers away for good.
Open a support ticket, it’s the only suggestion we can give you. Other than maybe reviewing the naming policy as well.

From what I’ve read they don’t change your name. They suspend your account (or that character) until you change it, for free. If they change it then you have to buy a name change contract to change it to something of your preference. I suspect someone logged into your account from your house to do the name change.
Nobody’s logged into the account except me (unless it’s an Anet Employee).
Also, if the name had been changed by my own account, it would show up in my Black Lion history.
Are you sure you just didn’t get drunk one night, or maybe someone else logged onto your account to prank you? Check your Black Lion purchase history (you can see it ingame) and see if a name change contract or wedding bundle were purchased recently.
No purchases, and nobody’s logged into my account either.
I know people who have had their names force-changed and all of them have had a renaming box prompt when they tried to play that character.
Have you contacted support? That would be your first port of call before the general forums. If it’s legit, then they will explain that. If it’s an error, they will fix it.
Well, I know it’s not legit because a) there was nothing wrong with the name and b) they just changed my name themselves without giving me the option to change it.
Considering the amount of genuinely offensive names I see around that remain unchanged, I think it’s safe to say that somebody who works for ANet has taken a special interest in messing with me.
I logged in today to find one of my character’s names had been changed.
That’s right – there was no pop up box prompting me to rename my character… his name was changed.
The character’s original name was Personal Stalker. He’s been renamed to Personal Pony.
This is absolutely unreal. Nobody’s ever contacted me saying my name was against the rules (and of course it isn’t, there’s nothing offensive about Personal Stalker) but why on earth would a games company think it’s acceptable to randomly choose a new name for a character, let alone a name like “Personal Pony”?
I’m left thinking that either: a GM has gone rogue and decided to just go around doing whatever, breaking their own rules, or someone’s hacked a GM’s account and is abusing it.
And if you think that “stalker” is offensive, there’s Stalker armor in the game already. There’s also a player called Stalker, a player called Your Stalker, Creepy Stalker etc. – so I’m guessing all of those players will be having their names changed to something Pony too.
Wow, engi forum is full of trolls.
Update:
In another thread about this mystery concert, the “organizer” more or less admitted it was a scam, and downvoted the thread to oblivion.
I don’t honestly expect anything to be done about it, it’s just very sad that someone would do something like this.
Where were you when the bankers stole all our money in the 2008 housing bubble
It’s a video game, if only people truly cared in real life :/
Who says I don’t care in real life?
I just think it’s exceptionally disgusting to use a real-life event that upset millions of people to SCAM other users.
If I was going to “stir up drama” I would have linked the post. I posted here to a) warn other players and b) lament the decline of the community.
Also, I haven’t actually met anybody who attended this event. The poster of the reddit thread claims it happened… but nobody seems to have witnessed it.
Guess you will have to wait see if they post video and screen shot.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/40n2u3/bowie_tribute_concert/cyzuolt
We will be posting screenshots and video clips in the coming days along with recordings and a set list. Once again I would like to thank everybody who contributed to this memorable day!
Yeah. Still waiting!
If you think the player is scamming the community, create a ticket and report them to ANet. Nothing much is gained by referencing the reddit post here, except to stir up drama.
FYI it’s possible the person has the best intentions and doesn’t realize how requiring donations to make the tribute happen could be taken the wrong way. It’s also possible they are taking advantage of the community; there’s no way to really know, which is — in my opinion — a good reason not to donate, unless you know the person.

When browsing the GW2 reddit just now I noticed a thread about a tribute concert organized in game for David Bowie. “Wow, that’s actually kinda cool,” I thought. I’ve never really cared much about the musical instruments in the game but it seemed like a nice idea, the sort of thing that used to happen in MMOs such as WoW and DAOC.
Then I read the final paragraph:
“If you’d like to make a donation, please send anything you can spare to (name removed) I do hate to ask for money but getting the gifts and instruments has been expensive and we all have full time jobs and little time to farm gold. Thanks everyone for your time! "
I’ve seen a lot of toxicity and general unpleasantness in the game over the last 3 years, but this is pretty low. Using the death of a much-loved celebrity to beg for gold?
Anyway, I just thought I should warn anyone who was planning on attending this “tribute concert” which is supposed to take place today. I haven’t linked the thread in question as it contains the player’s name, but I’m sure you could find it if you’re interested.
Sometimes it feels like every time the community surprises me with a pleasant gesture, it turns out to be some scam/trolling scheme.
1) There have been threads with players complaining about being harassed when killing ambient a whether it be to complete a heart, go for the achievement, or as they’re passing through. They were not in their own bubble.
2) It could be automated and was. Not difficult to program a bot to go around in a set loop I would imagine. Bots have done more complicated things.
3) Maize farming wasn’t restricted for the reasons that you listed.
4) Doesn’t mean that this method needs to get reinstated. Have you tried node farming for lower tiered wood logs and ore?
All wrong. ArenaNet just decided to ruin “lower tiered wood logs” in their latest patch. So, they need to reinstate old methods of farming gold.
All that I said were true. Please provide source that Anet ruined lower tier wood log farming with the latest patch.
Source? Look at the prices now. Go on. Have a little look.
It’s not ruined as you can still farm it as you did before and make a decent amount of gold. It’s just not as lucrative as before with the 30G/hr. I also don’t see anything stating what the cause so how are you certain that it is Anet?
Oh the bags. Like I said, you can still farm the nodes and there’s still the T6 node farm. It’s also not the only farm.
Farming wood is now pointless, like every other farm in the game.
Nope. You can still do the T6 node farm. Ancient wood logs and Orichalcum ore remain relatively unchanged.
You do realize T6 nodes refresh once a day, right? Which makes them very poor to farm.

It’s time to think about reverting the Maize Balm changes that were made prior to Halloween this year. Below I’ll outline my reasons.
1. Maize Balm farming kept farmers occupied outside of the rest of the game. Farmers could farm in peace without (and this is the key part) disturbing or affecting other players. This means that, unlike many other types of farming in which one type of gameplay conflicts with another, ToT farmers existed in their own little bubble.
2. Maize Balm farming was dreadfully boring. I mean, really dull. You also couldn’t possibly automate it, meaning there was no way to cheat. This meant that if you wanted to “play” the game just to make gold, you could do that – but it would be so mind-numbingly boring that most people wouldn’t bother.
3. Halloween is over and HoT is no longer brand new. This means there’s no real reason to restrict Maize Balm farming now. Players won’t be missing content as they’ve already played it and Halloween won’t be affected as it’s already over.
4. Most methods of earning gold have been nerfed or removed. Every time someone finds a new method, it gets crippled very quickly. Dungeon rewards were nerfed and various other gold farms became completely unprofitable.
5. We were allowed to farm using Maize Balm for a year. If it was unintended or bad for the game, I’m sure it would have been changed before then. It seems to most of us Maize farmers that it was removed because of Halloween and HoT. As stated above, this should no longer be an issue.
So, here’s hoping the changes can be reverted. It would be nice to see ArenaNet living up to their “play how you want” mantra once more.
Daredevil still needs a way of locking targets down or it will be kited for days. How about an immobilize?
What I’m hearing is any other Daredevil thief NOT using staff will destroy staff. So will any other thief. And any ranged class. Most condi classes too.
So I’ve been hearing from friends that Daredevil with Staff is fine in Open World PvE but really, really bad in WvW.
I’d just like to know your thoughts on the matter, and if any changes need to be made in your opinion.
Just seems like Anet ignored the feedback from a huge proportion of their population and made another class that’ll be a pain to level because of lack of speed.
Am I missing something here, or is Revenant another class without any form of 25% speed boost?
Does it have any access to swiftness to compensate? It would be a shame if it doesn’t have a speed boost, as it’s one of the most commonly complained about issues players have with mesmers and guardians.
If it’s GoF shouldn’t you just have a static image of a thousand dead baddies?
I think you’re ridiculous. I’ll buy an extra copy to make up for you. A week “in gaming” is nothing. There’s life outside of video games. I had a blast.
How much are Anet paying you?
So basically, you’re happy being guinea pigs?
Wow. Just wow. The game is an absolute mess right now.
Hilarious at times – taking down 3 people without losing ANY health – but a mess nonetheless. I’ve seen people in WvW just standing around in awe at how ridiculous balance is now.
The real question is, why is the live game your beta test? Why don’t you have a test server like other games? Even much smaller games managed a test server.
This thread won’t mean much to those of you who stand around in LA all day admiring your new wings, but for the rest of us it’s insane.
SimpleTraits™ is here. No more mixing two or three adepts in one tree, or two master traits.
Instead, we’re forced to take a grandmaster trait for each line.
Even when those traits are horrible, or don’t work at all with the rest of the build. Why is this, Anet? What could you possibly gain by doing this? Was it just easier to balance this way? Personally I think you should rethink this change.
The question is, what’s going to happen to the condi and boon durations we used to get from traits…
+1 yes i want to know too.
They answered this. It’s being rolled into baseline where applicable and being added to traits you select when not.
Example: Steal is now 30 seconds, 20 with the trait that reduces the cooldown.
Huh? I was talking about condi and boon duration, not class mechanics recharge stuff.
Example: first trait line for all classes currently gives 30% condi duration increase. What’s going to happen to that?
The question is, what’s going to happen to the condi and boon durations we used to get from traits…
It was probably too confusing for new players.
With the changes to ascended, as well as traits being removed that may make entire characters worthless, will we be getting refunds on character slots?
Just asking as it seems you’re trying to discourage players from having lots of alts, Anet. So if we’re supposed to stick with one character, presumably you’ll be giving us refunds for all our character slots.
I wonder have you ever played another MMO, where you grinded raids for 1 year
to finally get the perfect armor, and then a new expansion is released where the
blue gear from quests after 2 levels is suddenly as good as your gear ?Do you think they will refund you ? Heck you have even payed for it that they made
all your progress worth nothing.Oh and mostly in the new zones there you suddenly earn 5-10 times more money
than before, so that suddenly all the money you grinded for the last 2 years is now
something you can get in some weeks.
Other MMOs don’t charge you for character slots.
Not sure where you got that info about earning 5-10 times more gold in new zones… wishful thinking I reckon.
Oh, and the people calling me “entitled” – really? I’ve already put in the work to get my characters where I want them to be. These sorts of changes are unwelcome and unnecessary. What we need instead is huge changes to WvW to rescue it before both it and the game go under.
… what? conditions across the board are gonna be MORE useful not less… and ofc condition applying skills will be changed, just like stability applying skills got changed, when they added stackable stabilty…
How will conditions be MORE useful with the advent of condi immunity as a boon? It really seems to me like they want to kill condi roamers altogether.
When HoT arrives and huge, sweeping changes are made to core aspects of the game that will make some of our alts unplayable, will we be able to get a gold refund for the gear that will now be useless?
Take for example the changes to burning. The burning condition is in a good place right now. It does high damage but with low duration and can be easily cleansed. I’ve never seen anyone complaining about it being overpowered.
For some reason you’ve decided to make the burn condition a stackable condition like bleeding. You’ve decided to lower the damage of burn, too.
What this means is that certain current class/specs will be useless.
Condi guard and condi ranger, for example. Neither will be able to reliably apply enough burn stacks to reach the same levels they’re at currently, and let’s face it, neither of them are overpowered specs.
So, either you’ll need to change all the burn-related skills in the game to give much higher durations and make it easier to stack burn, or you could just, you know, not change burn at all. Or, if you insist on changing it without rescuing the affected class/specs, then return the gold we wasted on the soon-to-be-useless gear.
