I would give up the crafting XP in a heartbeat if they actually made it WORTH doing.
Why in the world would I give up several gold worth of crafting materials to be able to craft items I can buy on the TP for around 30s?
Seriously. I am sitting on over 25 gold because im selling the materials I find and yet im buying completely new sets of gear every 5 levels…the amount of rares needed is just plain crazy and needs to be cut in 1/3rd to make it CLOSE to worth it price wise…and im barely into level 60…I have no doubt I will have well over 50G by the time im level 80 and will have more than enough to buy everything but legendaries.
I was until I realized it is not worth it. I have yet to have to spend more than 30s for a set of gear at level 60 and yet im making several gold by selling all the materials I gather every 5 levels.
im sitting on over 25 gold already…Anet needs to drop the amount of rare materials needed to level up crafting to make it remotely worth it.
Easiest way is to NOT take part in the crafting system and sell all the materials you find on the Trading Post. I had 2 gold by level 20, 10 by level 40. and that was with buying a new set of armor/weapons every 5 levels.
So another few weeks gone by and still cannot do this event. There are people on the server that cannot get a world completion because of this.
This is starting to get sickening. It is no longer possible to do Johan’s training event in Gendarran fields. There are so many people exploiting the battle pit cage bug to get a continual spawn of single Veteran mobs for easy loot that the event can no longer be done.
People are “warping” into the cages to fight veteran mobs inside the cages. As long as this is taking place the “event” cannot be done no kills count towards the event as the cages will never open…thus the event cannot be completed and they get to kill mobs forever…and as you know, veteran mobs have a higher loot drop rate.
For 3 full DAYS I have been reporting people doing this and nothing has been done about them. isnt it time someone did something? Worst yet is that guilds are telling their members how to do it and its spreading…
BTW, can you PLEASE add an exploiting option for reporting a character, with a discription field.

The OP did us all a service by posting his issue here, hopefully ANet will respond.
Thank you, but odds of an Anet response is low now…they are starting to look more and more like another company that released an MMO late last year that suddenly went F2P…and most former players said that most of what the game was missing were things that could have been implimented easily if only the company actually took the time to listen.
The economy is a delicate thing in mmo’s and there need to be boundaries and enforcement in place to keep it in good shape.
And seeing the state of the game, their boundaries and enforcement has failed…could be the reason why other games chose not to go this route, because it made no sense at all that it would stop or slow them down.
All these limits do is hurt every single player in the game. It would be like not having a chat because chat could be used by gold sellers to advertise…hey, that might actually work…sure would be better than no P2P trading, no CoD in mail and limiting money you can give to your own guildmates!
That is where you are wrong Sparkie.
Eventually it will become a burden to Anet’s time and resources and I already know of plenty of people that are more than willing to continue to take up Anet’s time on this issue.
I for one will continue to use chat to sell items and report anyone that attempts to scam me out of money and am in an alliance filled with guilds that have other people that are going to do it as well.
We want our guild based MMO to be a SOCIAL based game and one of the key factors of socialising in MMOs is trading goods. So, no. I reject your idea that ALL PLAYERS must be vastly limited and have even MORE social aspects of the game kept out of it as well as reject your idea that CoD mail causes scams when in FACT IT PREVENTS it. The only way you can be scammed with CoD mail is if you cannot take the time to READ what items and what money is in it before clicking accept…which means THOSE people are subject to being scammed by the Trade Post…because they WONT be reading what they are buying!
So, the game has no CoD now, yet has all the things you say having CoD causes. Thus, leaving CoD out causes far more harm than good for what it takes away from the game…a player based economy supported by a great deal of player interaction and socialising.
I will admit CoD in mail will be benefical to this but as of right now Trading is not needed.
Seeing as how many people are wanting it…you are wrong.
Need is based on want, and there are plenty of people that WANT it. And seeing as how they seem to just LOVE taking down the trade post…it leaves the ENTIRE playerbase with NO WAY TO TRADE outside of placing yourself at GREAT RISK of being scammed since there is no way to trade safely without it.
the command is /age
what the game needs is one to show ping and one to show FPS outside of the options window.
I really don’t want to see sales spam in /Map.
I already do, and have seen it since early access.
The only thing Anet managed to do is open more players up to being scammed. The idea for everything to be done via the Trader is a wonderful idea…until you limit access to trade items to having to go to an NPC to pick them up.
Not everyone wants to have to go back to town and have their gameplay massively interuppted when they are used to being able to get items right away.
Bad idea, good intentions…now address the situation.
It isnt that Anet TRIED to do something different.
It isnt that Anet wanted to do this to PROTECT us.
It IS that Anet fails to see that their idea failed and are not willing to change.
P2P trading is a staple MMO aspect and the attempt to nullify the need for it failed in a big way. If they dont make the change, this will shorten the lifespan of the game for more than a few people.
The thing is, most gold spammers are not gold sellers.
They are just scammers that will ask players for their account info (and now also mail info) with the excuse of them needing that to “login and give you the gold”. And then they steal the account, and use it for botting and more spamming. So they take both your money for the “service” and your account. You may not believe it, but there’s people dumb enough to fall for that, and that’s why they keep spamming.
No.
Not to support those god aweful companies in any way, but what you just said is flat our wrong. Some of those companies have been around for years…
But let me use your argument against you…if they are scams that dont actually give out gold, but are used to steal accounts…then there really is NO need at all for Anet to limit accounts the way they are when it comes to sending/donating money or crafting materials…
Because, according to you…there are few real gold sellers selling gold.
It’s always over time, as long as you play, regardless of how much you play. It would not make sense otherwise, as bots play more. It would not make sense to have it just by time, as bot herders could just buy the accounts and wait.
So, its always over time…but would not make sense to have just by time. Wut?
This system is NOT STOPPING GOLD SELLING. That is the freaking point. No game has ever stopped them but this one is implimenting features to try to stop them, thats failing AND impacting gameplay for those not doing it.
The only way for gold selling to be stopped is for A: there is no MONEY in the game or B: The game company sells game money themselves for such a low amount that no company would make a profit by doing it…thus wrecking the economy.
As for the part where you state it isnt effecting enough players to matter…what a great attitude. It isnt effecting me, so who cares!
Did you READ what was posted? He started on the DAY of release and even the message states that you will be allowed higher transfer values AS YOU PLAY.
So, this basically says that age of account means nothing, amount of time you play does…more than likely the reason why there are so many dang BOTS in this game…it cant be limited by character levels because if it is that would mean there is a hard cap to the amount you can give to others or to your guild bank…and that would be disasterous.
BTW, as to your snarky comment at the end. Good systems do not punish everyone for the actions of a few….there was less botting in games without this system and limiting how much one can place into a GUILD bank does not stop gold sellers in any way shape or form…your attempt to be a wiseguy failed.
I am guild leader, I know one person in my guild having this issue is ranked 2nd out of 5 ranks. havent had anyone of lower rank try this yet…hard to ask someone to place items in the bank with a chance they wont be able to withdraw it until they level up. but as I said before, this just popped up today, before that 100s of materials were being deposited/withdrawn.
Here, I have the exact text from the window now from my guildie trying to deposit 58 wool scraps into the Gbank.
“This transfer would exceed the total value of transfers allowed for new accounts. As you continue to play, your account will be allowed to transfer higher values. New account limits are necessary to protect your online experience from fruad and illegal trading. We apologize for the temporary inconvenience.”
This guy has all his characters in the guild, one is mid 20s, 3 are over level 10 and one more is near 10…and he started on the day of release so I guess everyone has a “new” account.
I would be ALL for mounts if and only if they limited it to being sold by Anet. Just so they get a little extra income coming in to re-apply to the game…and no, im not talking for gems…but sold for actual money.
If they are smart they would make a TON of different mounts and MICRO-transaction them.
There is no such thing as black market trades…
Anyway, the crafting material limit didnt start until today. Before that there were 100s of materials deposited into the Gbank.
We did a test, even with those in chat that were having the issue. Asked everyone with the issue to go gain a level or do a personal story and then go back to the bank and see if they could deposit more. Everyone that did it said they were able to deposit a little more after doing so.
So, it would seem, note the word SEEM, as if they applied the money transfer/deposit limit to crafting materials as well.
spot on, and you didn’t even mention diminishing rewards.
Yeah, didnt want to go there because that at least could be defended slightly as keeping loot bots from wrecking the market even more…even though it still punishes ALL players which again…is the wrong thing to do on Anets part.
Wait, you can’t? How so, I’m pretty sure I sent a couple dozen silver and other items to friends.. is there a limit on how much one can mail or something?
Yeah, I learned it the hard way. I was going to place a gold piece in the Gbank for a friend to get guild armor and hit an “account” limit. you basically get a window telling you that “new” accounts are set to a limit that will increase as you progress. Today, a guildmate was placing crafting material in the Gbank for me to make him items and he hit an account value limit with that.
So…I cant even make him an armor set. Best part, he placed basic mats in first, I told him to take those out and give me the rares instead…and he cant even withdraw them…value goes over the limit.
This was not thought out very well by Anet.
My suggestion would be to stop trying to protect us because it is getting to the point where it is greatly interferring with gameplay.
First you wont give us P2P trading because 1 out of 10,000 people may get scammed because they cannot bother to look at either the items or the amount of money in a trade window basically forcing us to only use your trading post. This not only forced us to continually run back to a trader for every single item we wanted…but it opened far more people to being scammed by…also not allowing people to send items in mail with a COD payment option…just because they dont want to have to run back to town and are wanting to trade with someone.
MMOs are supposed to be about VARIETY, not LIMITATIONS…and I sure as heck dont want to have to run to a trader just for one stinking item that I should be able to get right away.
Then you take it upon yourselves to try to stop gold sellers by limiting the amount of money they can either give to the guild bank or send to other players…thinking that somehow if you make people play their accounts to increase the amount of money they can donate/send…it would be OK. Instead it created a BOT FEST for gold sellers to get around.
So now, not only do I get a ton of gold seller spam and a lot of BOTS running around, I cant even give a gold piece to a fellow guild member so he can get guild armor, nor can I aid any friends that are just starting by giving them a leg up
Now…now you are limiting the amount of crafting materials that can either be sent or deposited into guildbanks?!?
What is this going to do other than hurt guilds that have guild crafters?
Sure wish I had known you were going to do this cause then I wouldnt have bothered to train up 3 characters with crafting skills that I am going to be limited with to make items for guildmates
Please stop trying to play big brother and protect us because all you are doing is slapping those of us playing by the rules in the face and limiting our gameplay…im starting to regret buying this game and even spending a few extra bucks to unlock a 6th character slot.
This would be a grade A game, if you would just drop the crazy BS you are doing trying to protect us…and failing at in a big way BTW.
Its a great list of advice but I would add one to it…and its one tip that I continually see overlooked for some reason even though it should be on every single gamers list for their system.
A small fan, round about 3 inches in size facing the front of your systems intake can help keep the temp of your system down a tremendous amount. Larger fans does NOT make a difference, in fact is worse. A very small fan, right outside the case blowing inward works far better than a case fan, just inside the case does.
Interesting question. And you seem to assume that every company can do character roll-backs or full-account restorations? Nope, not every company can do that. In fact, what I believe is the largest MMO in the world (to date, anyway grin) does not have a restoration feature.
Actually, it would seem your company is one of the FEW that dont have it…that “other” MMO does…so does Funcom MMOs, and Turbine MMOs…even EA does and if they do and you dont…I would change that quick because EA shouldnt be better than anyone at anything when it comes to MMOs.
WHAT!
Did I just read someone from Anet stating that this is not a scam after their telling us over and over that they wont give us P2P trading in order to STOP SCAMS!
All you did was make it easier for more people to get scammed just because they elect NOT to have to run back to town to a trader NPC to get a freaking item when every other MMO allows P2P trading or emails with CODs…
This company is really starting tokitten me off…
So Anet, now that there is proof your bright ideas will only increase scamming are you finally going to give us what we have been demanding since the first BWE?
We want P2P trading back…and remove the foolish limit to the amount of money that can be sent. The idea that limiting it to how many levels you have gained on an account is not stopping gold sellers because, as can be seen now, they get a new account and bot characters up and can send gold with them.
All your birght ideas are doing is hurting ALL your players that play by the rules…
Its the same reason why next to nobody is running around with Guild Armor…who the heck is going to pay 1,3 or 5 gold for a one time use item that is just going to be replaced…Anet doesnt make much sense with their shop, or some of the game implimnetations…so much potential being missed, so much more money they could be making right now with a better shop and a costume slot/slots…even a costume over armor slot.
They had their reasons, their reasons turned out to be less than well thought out. The only thing it prevented is every single player doing what they want to do and now more people are at risk of being scammed because who the HECK WANTS TO HAVE TO RUN TO A TRADER EVERY SINGLE TIME THEY WANT AN ITEM? So, now people have to trust the person selling an item in chat and trade in one of the more backwards way of player trading I have ever seen in an MMO. Seriously…the economy is FUBAR, the market is little different from most markets/auction houses in other MMOs, the only difference is that Anet just removed the player economy by cutting our hands off because 1 in 10000 players arent bright enough to actually LOOK at the items in a trade window before hitting accept to a trade.
Handicap the entire playerbase for 1 in 10000…nice work!
While we understand the want for P2P trading, we feel that the Trading Post works well for accomplishing fair deals and keeping individual users protected from those with less-than-pure-intentions.
Again, while we know that the majority of players would use a P2P system within its intended design, creating they system may place the global economy at risk, as well as some players.
And as can be plainly seen by another post here, your idea not only failed, it took an important feature away from all players in the process and to top it off placed then at greater risk.
I continually see people selling items in chat, through mail, thus your removal of P2P trading actually took AWAY the only means a player has to protect himself, by actually LOOKING at the item/money in the trade window before hitting accept to the trade.
Now, people who dont want to run to a trader are 100% at risk of being ripped off. Much like your idea of limiting the amount of money that can be sent/deposited into the Guild Bank to the amount of time a person has played….all you did was punish all players, and you didnt even put a crimp in gold sellers business because now they just bot the account until its past the time limits and THEN use that account for gold transfers.
If you own an nVidia GPU. GW2 is not the game for you

Lots of people sure do love to throw out blanket statements…
If some people with Nvidia cards are not having the same issue as you, stop making blanket statements like that.
I am running 2 GTX 465s and am having no crashes, the only time my frame rate drops is during heavy PvP combat and only drops from around 50fps down to the lower 40s during boss fights with a lot of players.
I suggest you start looking at your overall hardware config because it isnt just “Nvidia”.
Asus Sabertooth X79
Intel i7 3930K Six-Core 3.20 GHz 12MB Intel Smart Cache
12gb Corsair DDR3 1600mhz quad channel
windows 7 64
2 GTX 465s
2 1tb Western Digital VelociRaptor 10,000RPM SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64MB Cache
ASUS Xonar Essence ST 24-bit 192KHz PCI Sound Card
My nephew is running the game even better than mine with 2 GTX 680s , no beta drivers, only offical release. Odds are, its a conflict between video and sound drivers, or even the motherboard bios which tends to happen with new MMOs…it happened with SWTOR, WoW, DAoC and SWG. I recall SWG having a massive issue if you had an Nvidia 4800 and a Soundblaster live causing bluescreens if you had 2 drivers matching up, one was an old sound driver number.
Edge your experiences seem to be vastly different from mine and the 200+ folks posting here ( http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/zjxcn/is_the_anti_bot_protection_in_gw2_going_too_far/ )
Are you playing on a lvl 80 toon? Not to give up your farm spots, but what maps are you playing in? How often are you in a given area killing the same mobs? Are you killing said mobs with any kind of speed?
Havent not seen myself nor heard about this issue from anyone in my guild.
By the time you hit level 80 you more than likely will be able to buy 800 gems with the in game money you make so dont worry too much about it…and if you dont fall into the crafting trap right away you can sell a ton of materials you loot/gather and get those 800 gems even sooner…better yet, 1600 gems and buy 2 character slots.
Yeah the lack of follow haskitten me off but the trade thing isnt so bad with the mail being the way it is…the thing I didnt get was not being able to mail items or money to one of your own toons…seriously…dumb freaking limitation there.
All your character share one bank account so that mean what ever you put in the bank be it gear/material/gold all your other character have access to it. So who’s is seriously…dumb now ?
Hey an entire guild can place items into the same guild bank so why allow anyone to send mail to fellow guildmembers…so who’s seriously…dumb now?
Yeah, think before you post because the entire idea of mail in this game is being able to use it anywhere.
/follow invented multiboxing… without such a feature, you’d never move 5 toons around all at once without breaking the EULA.
Bravo for not including it in this game!
Incorrect. Multi-boxing does not require /follow which is why when you see a multi-boxer all character are standing right on top of each other and doing the exact same moves/attacks at the same time…and I can point out several multi-boxers on my server.
With simple software and a switch box and keyboard/mouse presses will go to each computer on the box. No follow command is needed in the game.
Yeah the lack of follow haskitten me off but the trade thing isnt so bad with the mail being the way it is…the thing I didnt get was not being able to mail items or money to one of your own toons…seriously…dumb freaking limitation there.
Lets make sure Anet keeps their focus on making sure PvP stays fun, perhaps with new places to PvP, new objectives and challanges…that is the answer to your question. Anet needs to make sure they continually update the PvP aspect with new places to PvP, new objectives added and new challenges as well.
Lets makekittensure they dont fall into the carrot on the stick BS of making it for new gear because then the fun aspect falls off and its just another grind.
There is no cure. If there was it would have been found a decade ago.
Did any of you stop to think that maybe they just would rather have a player USING what they have instead of selling it to a vendor…nope…just greed. Not everyone cares about making a profit in a game with few money sinks. Heck, maybe I will start doing it just tokitten off the greedy people.
Few gold sinks? What game you playing? Trust me, 99% of those dudes don’t know what they doing and not the angelic person you think they are.
Yes, few gold sinks. Trust me…you are chosing to waste your money in ways not ever person does…namely those that dont take part in the crafting system or use waypoints every single time…guess they are not the devils you make them out to be because ZOMG…not everyone plays the same as you.
Did any of you stop to think that maybe they just would rather have a player USING what they have instead of selling it to a vendor…nope…just greed. Not everyone cares about making a profit in a game with few money sinks. Heck, maybe I will start doing it just tokitten off the greedy people.
They have to make money somehow. You’re also buying things that you don’t “need.”
I completely understand they need to money but would pricing gem at $10 for 100gems make them more money? Probably not but if they lower the price, more people will buy.
Also “things you don’t need”. C’mon bro, all these things are basic to MMO and completely unrestricted in other MMO. That’s like saying the only thing you need is water, food, and shelter and it’s okay to take away other things beacuse you don’t “need” them.
It’s nothing like that. I think you’re missing the point here. NOBODY is forcing you to pay for anything. You can even buy gems with in-game currency, so what are you complaining about? That you can’t control your spending habits?
You also seems to miss my point. If I placed you in an f2p MMO, you will be restricted and will not fully enjoy what the game has to offer unless you pay but nobody is forcing you to pay. That’s a pretty lame argument.
" you don’t have to buy a computer, cellphone, console, cloths etc beacuse you don’t need them and nobody is forcing you buy them"
That is NOT F2P that is FREEMIUM. A F2P game has 100% free content with a shop for bonus items and vaniety items…Freemium games lock conten that is only available if you pay for it.
Your entire argument is invalid because you do NOT need to pay for items in this game because you can buy gems with in game money you get just by PLAYING. So, instead of dropping money to get gems NOW for things NOW, play the game, get them in a few days…lol…ROFLMAO@YOU!
