no, that is NOT what we want. We want the content to be optional. The jumps I listed above are all MANDATORY.
People with dyslexia indeed CAN learn to read and write. That does not mean that they enjoy doing it once they’ve learned and most of the time they choose a job where reading and writing is not a core part of the job. Which doesn’t mean that they can’t be highly performing members of the society: My mom’s only mildly dyslexic but she rather enjoys numbers – she’s an accountant. She does not read books, she does not read newspapers… but she does listen to the radio and audiobooks, she watches TV, she talks to people…
seriously, why would people do things they don’t enjoy if there was a way around it? I mean, we all do things we don’t necessarily want to do (such as get up in the morning to go to work) but we do it anyways because the reward we get is worth the trouble. If the trouble gets more annoying than the reward is worth… well then, we find another way. If we can.

Filaha, as an answer to you post about jumps I personally found challenging: those are screenshots 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13 and 15. Not impossible, mind. But I do get vertigo when doing the jumps, and I don’t have the best hand-eye coordination to begin with.
On a different note, I find it puzzling how people don’t understand that some things are simply difficult, sometimes plain impossible to other people. Do you jump (ha. ha.) in the face of a dyslexic person with “just LEARN it!” ? Or, again from a personal point of view: my own spatial thinking is above average, my mathematical logical reasoning is fair but give me a simple arithmetic problem and I have NO clue. Really. 13+17 = purple aliens rabbit because oranges. I have learned though, to always (when it counts) to whip out a calculator… or otherwise say “42” – most people find that amusing.

nobody’s asking for an end to all jumping – by all means, ANet can create as many and as complicated jumping puzzles as they want.. Some of us simply think that Jumping Puzzles should not be a mandatory part of advancing the story. Timed jumping puzzles (=the Aspect mechanic in the Dry Top map) should particularly not be a part of advancing the story.
BTW, I’d be just as upset if they introduced an event that required massive coordination to complete (think: Tequatl)

Dice Dragon, no offense taken.
“you just gotta take things in stride.”
I totally agree on that one.
Currently I’ve got like 10 jp’s
Fractals at level 2Only recently have I gotten 100% map completion. I play since the days of yonder, when 100 gems were like 20-25 silver, to add a time frame.
I truly love it when I see friendly portal popping mesmer announcing in mapchat. Any map for that matter. It always gives me a smile.
I do not take these portals as I’d like to try stuff like jumping puzzels myself, first.
whenever I feel like doing them. Which is not oft.
Mostly because I prefer to enjoy my personal quality gaming time, instead of loading heaps of frustration. And, as you and I both know, GW2 provides heaps of other content also. Easy choice for me, until now.
Having gone to the new zone, and having ‘jumped around’ I am now at the position I can not progress any further, due to my “limitations”.
Mine are relatively mild, compared to those whom I’ve met in game and talked about the jumping issues we encountered a couple of times. In a constructive manner.
Peers sharing tips on how to do them best, stuff like that.My scars directly influences my motorics; like moving my mouse and buttons. I pleasantly main a ranger, an LB Archer if you will, mainly because of that. My char can stand still, mostly; I’ll doubletab forward and pop a Healing Spring rather easy.
Fractals I can not do easily, and now I can not enjoy new content again. That’s quite a big chunk of game content, right there.
I think part of the problem is that you can’t advance the story without doing the jumping. Another part of the problem is that the aspect boosts are timed, so if you don’t move fast enough – guess what? you’ll NEVER finish that bit, thus you’ll never get the full experience that LS is supposed to be.
Story-wise, I quite like it… but there is a reason why I did not do ANY of the Zephyrite content so far and the reason is that I don’t like jumping and I especially don’t like timed jumping. I can understand the appeal of it though, for the large majority of users – so, you know: go for it! But please, not as a mandatory part of the living story which would potentially prevent us non-jumpers from advancing the living story

@Malkav, i might add that nowadays most of the german “youglings” can´t even speak proper german (don´t even ask about the written language). From them i really don´t expect to speak english at all.
“yah, mon, plz tell teh groop abut grammer. fekin fancy pants, I killz all teh mobz wit mah awsumness”
it’s not only a German problem For that matter, it’s not even a problem of the gaming world. The times I’ve had to tell new employees that txtspiik is not acceptable in the office…
Yak’s Bend
it depends on the country/region. the Scandinavian and Nordic countries usually speak and write very good English, and that has to do with the fact that imported TV shows are not dubbed, they’re subtitled. i.e. every time you watch an American blockbuster or a hit tv show, you hear English and read the translation at the same time. However, in France, Germany, Italy and Spain they’re dubbed. People just don’t hear English in their everyday life. Then, when you move more eastward, there the “lingua franca” is either German or Russian, though it’s shifting rapidly to English nowadays.
Also, having been born in the Soviet Union, I can say from experience that most people do NOT take well to “govorite po chelovechesky” (=“speak like a human being”) as a response to speaking one’s mother tongue, whatever language that statement is made in. Yes, having a common language to communicate in is convenient. No, forcing it on people is not acceptable.

I’m with you Dorrian.
I think the reason this happens is that it’s closer to Human Nature to focus on the problems than on the positives. I see this all the time in the book forums I visit – people get so hung up on one teeny-tiny detail, and need to fixate on that alone, and so it looks like they’re hating the entire thing; and maybe they convince themselves that they hate the entire thing… (example: I do not like the Malazan books. I can put up with the occasional Deus Ex Machina in Fantasy books, because… you know, magic and stuff, but that it happens at least 5 times per book, I just found too much. Other people hate Brandon Sanderson because of the word “tempest”. go figure.)
The same applies for religion – it’s always “this is bad, that is sin, don’t do that”, and while not murdering people is generally a good way of living one’s life, there comes a point when all the restrictions and negativity simply take the joy out of everything. So, to make my simile even stronger: most of the people railing online are the Westboro version of Players – fans taken so far to the extreme of what they think the whole game experience should be about, they’ve completely lost touch with what the experience is really about.

this is such a lovely thread! I come from a family with migraines, my mom has them, my brother has them, I have them. Thankfully, there are preventive things (excercise. particularly pilates and yoga) I can do to avoid getting an attack so if I’m careful I don’t get more than just a few a year… but when they hit, I lose my balance, I get intensely intolerant to any sound or light, any movment is excruciatingly painful, can’t read, cant play games, can’t even sleep… so, anyways, aside from the pain, mostly what bothers me the most during an attack is the boredom. You’re left with none of the things you normally love to do, and just your own thoughts to keep you entertained. I think up short stories for myself, or imagine pictures… I’m not surprised at all that people with physical disabilities so often turn to creative means to express themselves: I most certianly would too!
I’m very much aware that I’m lucky I “only” have migraines and for the majority of the time I’m able in both body and mind. But I’m also so very glad and proud to read your stories – not only Christina but everyone who’s shared their story on this thread! you’re all awesome!

Honestly, I don’t want more revealing. I want more shapely. I don’t need to flash any skin, so much as present a nice silhouette – something the game’s trench-coat fetish pretty much destroys. In fact my favorite Photoshop tinkering with armor appearance shows far less skin than the base it was built from~
this! Also for men: what is it with the trench coats and pirate hats? I’d love to see a fighter-pilot look for an Engineer or something like a Frontier Trapper, with lush fur trimmings for a Ranger

They most likely banned some people that used macro’s while farming
I find it hard to believe they would ban for just farming or failing an event.
They do. If in case that an event fails but mobs still generate, then deliberately failing that event to keep farming the mobs is considered an exploit and users can get banned for this.

Grind gold and buy the stones. It’s much more effective that way.
I know. But for immersion reasons I’d like to get at least a portion of them how you’re supposed to aquire them: via gameplay.
Yak’s Bend
Dont worry about someone getting your loot cuz its not working like that, you get your own loot.
That’s not what I meant. What I mean is, the lodestones drop only when certain waypoints are uncontested. The events to GET them uncontested are group events (and honestly, I’m not pro enough to solo them. not by a long shot). Therefore, either I do a kamikaze or I beg acceptance to various groups just to get this one specific drop.
Yak’s Bend
This morning I woke up, all happy because I had a dream I got loads of Charged Lodestones… and then reality settled in, and now I’m all sad.
I’ve searched the forums and youtube for tutorials and I’ve tried going to Malchor’s Leap to farm the sparks but on my server (in my time of the day when I play) the temples are ALWAYS contested and require group events to unlock. I’ve done the dungeon runs etc… of course, it’s going but I’m getting frustrated that I basically HAVE to involve other people for getting my goodies.
Is there any way of getting the lodestones going fully solo? Besides buying, I mean?
(PS. I like cooperation in this game. I like doing dungeon runs with groups, and guild events and whatnot. I dislike that I can’t get a certain crafting material by roaming)

Arcane Wave tags everyone within a radius of 360, max 900 away. Earth Dagger 5, FGS, Fire Scepter 3…
I particularly love dodging into a group of enemies, put Arcane shield on and go for Earth Dagger 5, then dodge out again, trigger the Arcane Wave, switch to Fire, Scepter 3… and bags, bags EVERYWHERE. Oh, also, I have the Evasive Arcana trait which does AOE damage whenever I successfully dodge in both Earth and Fire attunement; and heals in Water. Hint: if I dodge in the middle of a crowd, it always triggers. Shield on and dodge all across the battlefield dealing damage as I go.
Also, being a “squishy”, tagging so many enemies has the benefit of whenever I do go down, I’ll most likely be up again in a second.
Yak’s Bend
I main an ele so I’m biased. Most people agree that if you want “easymode”, go for a warrior. they just facetank everything with autoattack and laugh at all the squishies. Personally, I find that boring. However, if your main objective is not to die, go for a Warrior or Guardian.
Elementalists and Thieves are both fun but vulnerable. I like my Ranger, but for some reason the general consensus seems to be that it really needs a rework. shrug

Have you notice d the world map is much large r than before?
Just recently I notice d the world map s have gotten bigger. There
isare a lot more areas thatisare not yet accessible. I am looking forward to more contentsto explore so I can’t wait until we seethemit. However, I wonder when
theythe new areas will be available and what level they will be. I can’t imag in e thepoints ofcontent to be more low level areas as most low level areas are ghost towns anyway. In the traditional mode we will be expecting they will be available in an expansion but in the living story mode I have to wonder. Since adding new areas and raising level caps are very big jobs and cost
alota lot of money, I wonder how Anet is going to approach this and how they ’re going to get their money back.So what
sare your thoughts.?
fixed that for you (please please don’t be offended, I’m not a native English speaker either. Some things just rub me the wrong way. Such as not ending words.) And just for fun times, here’s an Alot for you.
for the actual question, the map is not bigger than it was, the explorable areas have always been smaller than the world map. They’ve gradually opened smaller bits of the map for exploration, and those have all been l80 (Southsun for instance). I don’t know about the level cap increase; before reading the interview posted in this thread I would have said no way they’ll increase the level cap but now I’m not so sure any more.

huh. I run 0/0/30/10/30 Rampager/Elementalist (which is essentially a power/condi build… I know, everyone thinks a condi-ele is a joke but it works for me) and I survive fine. I mean, sure, after the 1 hour I have to spend about 8 silver on repairs but overall it’s def not worse than the average survivability.
I do have to say, this event has been a bit of a learning curve in that I’ve learned to adjust my attunement-switching: instead of going earth-fire-earth-fire-water-earth-fire; I’m now fire-water-earth-air-water-earth-fire-water-air-earth-water (in other words, I cycle water in muych more frequently than normally and I DODGE a lot)

Which is why I still havent’been present for a Teq kill since the revamp; and only a handful of times (read: weekend) for Jormag.
Also, this directly contradicts the ANet motto of “play how you want” – there are loads of people who really just want to roam.
Also #2: way to scare off new players. just because you are bored…
Also #3: go to Kessex.

The only thing I can agree on is that pure wvw should be able to get a daily just by playing wvw. As far as I know there are mostly just three wvw related dailies .. and I don’t consider daily gatherer to be one of them.
There are tons of daily achievements that can easily be done in WvW; and there are even some that can ONLY be done in WvW. And there are always at least five daily achievements that can be done in WvW.
Daily Events
Almost everything is an event in WvW. Even just killing a sentry and then cap the camp near it which possibly has two dollys waiting in it will already give you 4 of 5 needed events.Daily Kills
Kill 50 things. Easy.Daily Kill Variety
Character classes count for this as well, I think; and of course the different kinds of NPC’s. And if you just lack a few… there are moby on the WvW-maps. A variety of different kinds of mobs actually.Daily Veteran Slayer
So many Veteran NPC’s in WvW. And Veteran mobs as well.Ambient Killer
Also easily doable in WvW. Though I’d prefer if you don’t do it. Those poor innocent creatures.Condition Applier
Easy. Comes as you play; don’t even need to be a condition build for that.Condition Remover
Usually also easily done without even trying.Daily Dodger
And again. Easy and fast.Skill Interrupter
Depending on what class you play, this may be a bit harder. Still, doable. Especially if you use AoE-interrupts on zergs.Daily Reviver
This might sometimes be a bit tricky in WvW, but sometimes very easy as well. Depends on how the fights go and such.Daily Gatherer
Even if you only gather from the nodes you see while you are waiting for a gate to break or where you run past… you will get it. Doesn’t take long.Recycler
Loot. Salvage it. Done.Leveler
Also happens frequently in WvW, since the exp from taking stuff is quite good. And almost everything is an Event as well, so it gives even more exp.Skill Point Accumulator
Harder to do, unless you play for hours and level up three times in the process.Daily Mists Invasion Defender
10 kills are done fast, unless you PvD without ever seeing opposing players.Daily Mists Caravan Disruptor
Also shouldn’t be a problem.Daily Mists Defense Restorer
Might be a bit tricky if your structures don’t get attacked. Otherwise, easy. Gates and walls need to be repaired after an attack.Daily Mists Land Claimer
You don’t even need to stay in the circle as long as sobody else is doint it. Hit the sentry once, profit.Daily Mists Camp Capturer
Also not so hard. Will usually be done while zerging as well as while roaming.Daily Mists Tower Capturer
Even if you’re just roaming, there might be a chance to join the zerg once when they capture a tower. You can leave the zerg right after.Master of Ruins
Also very easy to do.Big Spender
Can’t get any easier. But it’s usually not even needed if you don’t want to spend your badges.World Ranker
Can be anything between hard and easy, depending on what you do and how long you do it.Daily Feast
Buy some cheap food for a few copper each and eat it all at once. Profit.Karma Spender
You can also do this in WvW if you want.Daily Laurel Vendor
Very fast to get this one.Daily Puzzle Jumper
You can do this one in WvW if you want. Usually doesn’t take that long either.

Because scientists used the imperial system for centuries before they invented the metric system?
meh. scientists also used the Greek measuring units before the imperial system was thought up. The greek system btw, was much more logical than the Roman one, only a few fractional measurements and even those were like 1/2 instead of 1/16 measures; and most of the measurements were easily dividable by 2.
(my personal pet peeve: Romans getting all the praise for stuff the Greeks thought up. Art, architecture, science… The only original contribution of the Romans to the world as a whole was their military organization, their legal system and their roadbuilding – the first 2 of which are intangible)

it’s a matter of taste and playstyle. I detest the mesmers, they’re so boring I might as well sleep at the keyboard. I like the ele, thief and ranger a lot, and I have a suspicion that the engi migth be fun, but mine is still only l20 so I haven’t gotten the hang of all the mechanics just yet.
Yak’s Bend
Ele buffs: not to passive survivability. Give us greater active defense, we’re not warriors.
Ranger change: I get that they’re supposed to be one of the more passive classes, but that whole spirit/overreliance on autoattack thing is a bit overboard and needs to be toned down to make room for more active abilities, which should probably end up as buffs as well to everyone who still has a soul and doesn’t sit in their spirits spamming 1.
on ele survivability: I agree with you. I actually think that the ele heal options are pretty decent – I know, lots of people disagree on this one – but the problem is, there’s no active defence except for arcane shield and… well, looking at cooldowns plus viable defence options, it’s just sad.
Ranger: I don’t know what you’re talking about. mine’s a shortbow-greatsword signet ranger. I’m considering changing the shortbow against axe-horn, just need to figure out which ones I want :P
Yak’s Bend
I’ve got 2 l80s: an ele (my main) and a ranger. I’ve also got a l20-ish engi and warrior. I had a mesmer up to level 50 something but deleted her because I was bored out of my mind. However, I’m happy to chalk that one up to my personal likes/dislikes. sooo, I’ll just go with what I know:
ele: 1) please increase survivability! When I first started with my ranger (!!!!), I remember thinking (and still do, whenever I play him) “wow, he almost never dies, yay me!”
ele: 2) enable other builds than “max out arcana, split the rest between water/earth/air”
ranger: needs more dps. Sure, I survive more than I do with my ele – which really isn’t saying much, to be honest. I also kill a LOT less. and people never want me in the party. Even though I’m decent enough to solo-kill most champs (given 30 min :P )
of the classes that I’ve encountered in WvW: thief perma-stealth +backstab is ferociously painful, maybe that could be toned down a bit? Though I don’t mind at all if Thieves got a little something in return for it to compensate. And hammer-warriors. Good god, there’s no counter for those. your only hope is to outrun them, which really is no hope at all. I managed it once though.

1) I guess, now that you mention it. that never bothers me though.
2) there’s a very clear distinguish for critters that will die in one hit (=ambient creatures, marked with white text) and wildlife that will engage if you (accidentally) hit them first; the latter are marked with yellow text. Personally I like the distinction and that you probably need to watch where you shoot your bouncy-ranged attacks if you don’t want to get mobbed by creatures.
3) nope. but, as with #1 that’s a matter of opinion. you’re entitled to yours.
4) I use a trackball mouse because of workspace issues. I use ASWD exclusively for moving, and mouse only for targeting, switching weapons and doing things in my inventory.
5) this has actually gotten a little bit worse recently; the F targeting used to work better. Now sometimes it doesn’t engage, sometimes it engages the wrong thing… so, ok, yes, this could be better.
6) Mugiwara already listed several. Skritt are particularly fun Or did you mean humanoid enemies? Personally, I always found the bandits somewhat… Pirates of the Carribean – fun, but just a little sad and outdated.

but… but…
honestly, these forums are the most vanilla-rainbow-sprinkles forums I’ve ever set foot in. And my main forum I visit is dedicated to books.
1) if users cannot point out griefers (with photographic/video evidence) here, then please provide a location where it CAN be done and take appropriate action when it’s done.
2) You can’t change people. They won’t up and change what they’re thinking just because you say so; if this location is no longer usable for the communication that needs to take place, people will move. The moment you have a user base out of your forums, you no longer control anything they say. This means that when the WvW community sets up somewhere else, you’ll not be able to control ANY of the nasty vitriol that they’ll spew. You’ll have no control over the hate directed at ANet. And it will spiral. People love to hate, it’s the mob-mentality; and a common enemy binds people much better than common values. Of course, this also creates a deeply sick society as evidenced by the Soviet Union but I digress.

Ok, hi everybody, history major here. And not just any history, my friends, General European history (everything up to WW I). Now, my focus was mostly in the Modern Ages, but I was also quite fascinated in the development of European military strategy from the 100-years war until the Crimean War.
Now, GW2, much as most of the multitude of RPG games out there is based on a mediaeval fantasy; with knights and their quests, with kings and queens defending their realm, with great tourneys to measure individual skill. But also, with keeps and moats and rolling hills, and roaming bandits – some of them good (Robin Hood) and some of them bad.
Now, mediaeval warfare was limited to a very particular season for a reason: war could only be had when it wasn’t muddy – so either in the summer when the roads were clear enough that supply carts didn’t get stuck in mud; or (although this mostly applies for Scandinavia and Russia; not so much Western Europe) in the winter when the ice and snow roads would permit fast movement. Now, this doesn’t apply very much to an online game because, let’s face it: none of our toons require daily meals and a place to sleep at night; and hence the carts and carts of tents, food, firewood etc. that an army of those times would be forced to drag along; therefore being contained to the passable roads only. It’s marked a little bit in the dolyak supply system, but… well, it’s a stretch. If anything, the dolyak system reminds me more the military logistics during the Crimean War, when they first thought to use trains for delivering supply, thus making the army itself much more mobile. On the downside, it also made the trainlines vulnerable to sabotage, and the convoys would often need to be escorted.
Back to mediaeval tactics: Once the army was together, it would set out onto the field. But where to? Normally, an army didn’t want to confront another army unless reasonably sure of an outcome. Nobody wants a phyrrean victory, because even if you win, your losses will be so great, that were you to be engaged by another party you’d surely lose. Plus, it leaves a gaping hole in population as a whole, thus making your overall military strength smaller. Although, again, in an online game your toon is never permanently dead; so going against an evenly matched group on the open field has much less doomsday effect.
So, back in the day, a military campaign would be a fight for castles – cut the enemy off from their castles and the villages around the castles, where most of the supplies were stored, make them starve on the field and then attack. WvW is built up in the same logic: capture the castles and hold them to win.
Open field battles are good only for pretty paintings and stories of glorious charges, but wars are won by sound logistics and strategy.

Diamond skin is a hard counter to pure condition builds. All you need to do is inflict 1,500-2,000 damage then you can continue melting Elementalists as normal.
Funny … many thief builds can melt an elementalist in a few seconds regardless of build , but elementalist becomes powerful vs a subset of a couple of classes and all of a sudden its a big thing. No one seemed to care when it was just Elementalists dieing without being able to be a noticeable benefit in a group situation. :p
Diamond Skin is not powerful at all vs the vast majority of the game … while the ele remains the lowest hitpoints, lowest armor class with no survival gimmicks like stealth, clones, or deathshroud … and all the while basically having the same damage output as every other class.
In short … cry me a river.
so, I was trying out the Diamond Skin in WvW yesterday. Got backstabbed by a Thief and died in ONE hit. That’s with increased toughness from 30 in Earth and the Diamond Skin trait to help against condis.
It did make me want to roll a stealth-thief next though, heh.

Small disclaimer: ele was my first character, so I’m most comfortable with the ele mechanics. Mine is currently built for AoE condi damage and mobility. No conjures.
Ok, that said, mesmer is sooooo boring to play I’m considering deleting my l55 character and create either a necro or thief instead. the warrior is so slow I can make a cup of coffee and drink it before anything happens. Though when it does happen and I remembered to wield a hammer, everyone’s dead which can be satisfactory.
I can solo most PvE with my ele shrug

I’m sure it’s been suggested time and again but in WvW it’s the ability to res finished players that makes zerg’s so powerful. If you were actually able to cull the herd with gorilla tactics it would really shake things up.
Reason I bring this up is that now as this is an option in custom PvP arenas I imagine the hard part of coding is mostly done. I mean what harm could it do just to test it out? If it’s horrible just disable it again.
you mean guerilla tactics? because I don’t know what a gorilla tactic is; maybe a single Warrior just going on a rampage or something?

But now it’s full of evil clowns
It’s time to start the countdown
I’m gonna burn it down down down
I’m gonna burn it down
9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, fun

You seem to have taken some philosophy class, and I woulda taken you seriously if you didn’t make spelling mistakes. Trying to sound intelligent and making simple spelling mistakes is… interesting, to say the least.
As for the Warrior nerfs… instead of getting caught up in little words and “what if they meant this? They should have used this word instead of that”, try playing WvW and then come back here. If you say Warriors still aren’t OP then… well… we all know who to not take seriously.
Thanks for your time,
A realist.Resorting to an attack on my grammar is your counter argument well noted. And stating that I have not tr*i*ed WvW does not prove your point either. As you have no knowledge if I have tr*i*ed wvw or not. At no point did I state that warriors are OP, based on the conclusion of your rhetorical reply I have no reason to believe that you are a realist since, what you said about me was not real it was fake.
fixed that for you. also, that last sentence, triple negative and a positive?
as for the topic at hand: Warriors are so OP it’s not even funny at this point. really. Warrior class -right now- is for those who want the “newborn” mode of GW2: where all you have to do is drool and everybody falls at your feet. Which can be a nice reprise from playing ele or engi or ranger as nobody actually likes dying all the time.

Meh. This week is just dull, bring back the 2v1 atleast I got to farm eb and yaks for my legendary… this is just tedious, not enough drama, not enough bags compared to last week
who’d’ve thunk?
actually, I agree. the drama last week was EPIC.

2. Being guild commander, commander being account status, 1 name for account commander (showing commander name instead of characters name), making sub squads, commander being able to see every person in squad like they are in a party (yellow color?), making one squad with more than one commander, different commander tag shapes and colors.
I like this way of making the Commander tag account bound but still enabling for commander recognizability. For timing: perhaps when the Commander ability is unlocked, the system propmts the user for their unique Commander name?
