Something I haven’t seen mentioned yet is cross map commander chat/visibility. Being able to see which (if any) commanders are on any given map and having the ability to communicate with them would be amazing.
that is an excellent idea! After all, WvW may be 4 different maps, but they are all part of the same event.
Yak’s Bend
I’ll preface this with: I’m an extremely casual WvW-er. I usually join when I see some guildies are in; for maybe an hour of recreation after finishing my dailies. Up until this thread I didn’t even know I could join a Commander’s squad. /feels dumb.
So, this will be from the perspective of a follower.
1. Tag colour-shape combinations is a really great idea that would expand the functionality and coordination a lot. As would the ability to differentiate tag visibility per map/guild/squad.
2. To combat griefers, increase number of people joining squads and better coordinate what happens when, make it so that only people in a Commander’s squad can drop siege. This combined with the already suggested ability to kick people from squad would diminish the griefing while still allowing casual players to help out with blueprints.
3. Allow the Commander to designate squad members with commands such as “repair gate” or “cover me”. Since I think that as in real war, the commander is a very important target; it should remain so in WvW; however same as in real war, why not assign bodyguards?
4. mapchat needs to reflect commanders better. I never use teamspeak so what normally happens is… er… somewhat random. i.e. remove or greatly reduce the commander’s chat suppression.

As much fun it is to keep playing EB, BP, Kaineng and Maguuma all the time, this was a nice change in pace, I thought. More exposure to other worlds, and how they play.
Yes there should be season 2, if the league system was reworked more like the soccer World Cup: the same number of teams in each sub-group; everyone plays with each other once and there’s a better balance of repeat matches. Also, note how in the world cup, only citizens of that country are allowed to play, no transfers.
PS. I find it hilarious that I’m posting on a gaming forum with soccer references while being female. I think I’ll go home and watch Vampire Diaries or something to get myself in balance again.

There are rewards for placing lower than third?
not that I’m aware of. But the 4/5 spots are going to be either EB or BP; and EB realllllly hates BP (not sure whether the feeling is mutual. all I know is, YB people aren’t as positive about BP as they are about EB, so if we’d get our pick for 4th, we’d go for EB. /shrug); so they want to finish higher than BP – that being the reward

Loving the QQ of the kitten SBI people. Sad, it’ll end today. FA and DB should be ready to teach them what they deserve.
dude, go do something productive, you’re making us all look bad. nobody – and I mean NOBODY likes a gloaty winner.
Yak’s Bend
guys… again: there wasn’t a 2 v 1 until the forums and this thread made it a 2 v 1.
also, c’mon, everybody loves an underdog! this week, YB and EB were both underdogs, next time, everyone will be rooting for SBI – everybody wins. well, not medals. But love. Make love, not war!
also, an aside: there’s been too much bad blood between EB and YB so it’s great to get a bit of camraderie for once. doesn’t happen often, and I’m sure we’ll be at each other’s throats next week again, but it’s good while it lasts
Yak’s Bend
Let’s see if we can get things straightened out then.
You claim EB and YB are bad in the open field and you have won every fight against them even when outnumbered. The only times you have lost is when you are facing “overwhelming” numbers. Oh yes, and you have been outnumbered in all of your open fields fights. Almost forgot about that gem.
You then post a screenshot with around 15 of you cowering in a tower from a staggering number of Yak’s which appears to be less than 25 people. Our group would consider that a manageable fight with fairly good odds of winning. You obviously don’t have a clue what overwhelming numbers really are.
Overwhelming numbers are things like 4v40 or 10v60.
a group of… maybe 8 of us were doing a supply run, got caught by a group of maybe 30 SBI’s. Most of us managed to run away. Gotta say, I was pretty proud about that.
Yak’s Bend
I am from SBI.
All of this back and forth about why SBI isn’t in the lead or what “could be” IF this or that were happening, in my view, is fruitless.
Straight up Yak’s Bend is beating us this week. It is what it is. And kudos to YB for holding it together.
Of course the reports of spy griefing and hacking set aside as people who engage in that kind of behavior are just pathetic cry babies without a thumb to suck on… no matter what server they are on… I have seen some organization from YB, quick responses to threats, and… yes… numbers.
As for double-teaming… it is a legitimate tactic and one that any server needs to have a response to if they are double teamed. Improvise, adapt and overcome… don’t whine about it. Course, when you team up with another server to attack a third, you run the risk of coming out in last place like Ehmry Bay is seeing right now. Didn’t quite work out for them like they were hoping, did it? May make them think better next time of allowing another server to get the upper hand in an alliance.
but that’s only now. EB has been a formidable opponent in the past matchups (=before the Season) and I’m sure they will be again when the Season ends. Point being, in a YB-EB balance it’s often tricky to predict which one will come out on top. This time it was YB. Next time, who knows. That’spart of the fun of WvW

I’d love to have an old-looking option for Sylvari – this could partly be achieved with colour selection (browns and grays instead of the more vibrant options) but also, textures such as moss or twigs or bark…

Chris,
The player base throw a ton of ideas at you. So far so good.
Now pick the topics that Anet finds actually interesting and that fit their current game design philosophy.
And also rule out what is fully aginst your current vision of GW2 (e.g. lower map cap for WvW will never happen as this is bad for players and for Anet).
For stuff that is between both just say it so. Not off the table but not active thoughts are put into this. Just have it listed somewher for future reference.
After the gathering of ideas it is now time to filter them out. We players cannot do that. You have to do it, as you keep your current core philosophy secret. We cannot know what’s going on inside your head. You have to tell us.
Basically we need to enter a more detailed discussion of ideas. You prioritize them open a thread and the thread comes to a conclusion (not another political statement by Devon with no conent please). One topic after another.
-SNIP-
I think this touches on a notion that’s been mentioned repeatedly on the PvE thread as well: it’s really important to manage expectations. Yes, WvW people are really unhappy about several issues at the moment, but if the dev’s make clear that for instance, one of those issues will not be changed due to either ANet internal policy towards the game or that it may be changed but the workload to get it done is such that players shouldn’t expect anything for the next few months… then yes please! sure, we won’t be happy about a “no” or a “not yet”, but at least we can then shelve those issues and focus on something else.
so, a practical suggestion on how to manage expectations: as I’m asuming you guys are aware what the most vocal issues are, perhaps in the opening post of a CDI thread, you can shortly acknowlege them. Something along the lines of:
“First, a quick FAQ: 1) the input from the skill lag discussion has been taken into consideration and is being discussed further within the team. We may circle back to this later. 2) population balance policy will not be changed as that would clash with ANet policy. 3) the WvW next topic after this one will be rewards.
In this thread we will be focusing on Commander Tags funtionality, please keep your comments on topic"
but, you know, not my more-or-less-wishful thinking, but actual ANet ideas on the matter.
Yak’s Bend
perhaps a stupid question this long into the thread: where do fractals and dungeons belong? Are they part of the PvE development? I ask because I very often come across users who describe their daily experience something like this " it’s been a busy day, I ran a few fractals, then ran some WvW, then roamed PvE a little bit, did a few World Boss events, now am considering whether to do dungeons or PvP"
(in the interests of full disclosure: I myself play mostly open world and WvW. I just really don’t like if stuff gets forgotten or overlooked. Even if I’m not interested in that stuff)

perhaps coincidentally, as my luck has gotten higher I’ve been getting more and more of the 50 luck, 100 luck and 200 luck bits.
eta: I only salvage blues and greens. need the yellows for Mystic Forge…
Well, greens cost almost 2x more, so that doesn’t seems to be the best way in a long run
Well, I don’t care about that 1-2s which i get by selling the green item, I need mats and luck, that’s all
me too. more luck → more greens and mats → salvage greens for luck and mats → more greens and mats and yellows
and money is starting to trickle in now from mob kills too.
Yak’s Bend
I’d like to chime in with the people asking for a separate sub-forum where only ANet people can create new threads and smaller sections for discussion. It would help keep things on topic.
I think it’s also a good idea to have a time gap between posting a new topic and allowing user comments to start. 3 days is probably too long because, let’s face it, people’s attention tends to … Squirrel!
What happened 3 days ago is absolutely irrelevant. But maybe 24 hours would be good? that way, all interested people, regardless of time zone, will have had the opportunity to take a look and form an opinion without first reading through 2 pages of other user’s comments. Which can be useful, but sometimes it can distract us from our own thoughts.
Personally, I’d appreciate negative responses as well; something along the lines “We are aware of this request, it has been discussed but the decision for now is not to implement it” or even “This idea goes against the company policy, will not be discussed” or (what we all secretly hope for, hehe) “yeah, dude, I totally agree with you but the team decided not to on this one”. It’s ok if not everything people think of gets implemented, we’d just like to get feedback even if the answer is no.

No one wants ascended armor.
Hello, my name is No one.
Why do you want this?
Having a long term goal for upgrading gear yet being able to do so at my own pace without hurting my capabilities in the game? Why wouldn’t I want this?
precisely. If they existed, I’d probably want Legendary armor as well.
I say “want” – what I really mean is “covet without any chance of actually getting it”
edit: come to think of it, I think I want a legendary piece of armor more than a legendary weapon. But that migth be just because I know the armor don’t exist at all :P

I don’t have kids but I’ve got a guildie who got a GW2 account for her daughter, and she mostly liked exploring the starter areas (she particularly loved swimming around in LA and talking to the Quaggan NPCs). I hung out with her a couple of times, but what she really liked best was roaming around with mom. It can be a bonding experience. When I was little I’d imitate my mom; and we’d knit and crochet and stuff…
Games help develop children’s imagination and social skills. Also, good point about the typing and reading skills. We’ve got too many illiterate people in the world
so, if you make sure that your son doesn’t get too deep into the game, and he would understand that too much immersion is not a good thing; with maybe structuring the gaming experience so that there are other games that you do together too… like… I don’t know, monopoly or laser tag, which hurts less than paintball, or something :P

lol. Do you have full map completion yet? Because if so, I consider that truly legendary! I’ve bene playing for… er… I think 7 months, maybe 8 and the most I’ve gotten is about 60% world completion. Don’t get me wrong, I roam… I just don’t have the patience to methodically go to every single point of interest in every single map. So unless it happens by accident over the next I don’t know how long, I’ll never get the world completion award, which means I’ll never get the legendary. Which is fine by me.
Sadly I have completed map on only my 5 characters out of 9, but those others are on the way right now cause I love exploring the world. I have done all dungeons, mini dungeons etc. That feels like playing.
but that’s kind of what I mean: I like roaming around. I do not like having to look up how to get to a particular view point. So, if I get it, I get it. If I don’t then I don’t. I don’t want to “grind” my way through map exploration just to get the stupid legendary weapon. Which… you know, it’s cool and all, but I’d rather have fun with the game my way

lol, I read “choo-choo cookie”
apparently I’m a “core” player then? I consider myself casual though. I only do what I feel like doing; and usually there are loads of content that I like and some that I don’t like. I like crafting, PvE, WvW, chatting with my guildies, leveling alts, doing (most) of my dailies… I don’t like jumping puzzles or PvE. so, you know, I don’t. end of story.

LOL at people comparing their own ignored forum with another ignored forum. It is like saying “You lost an arm? Well I lost 2 legs so I have it worst!”
Wouldn’t it make more sense to say “I agree with OP. I am an elementalist and we gets totally ignored too!”
lol, no because that would be hypocritical. To the Ele’s overwhelming joy, there have been several posts over the past few days in the Ele forum by the dev’s.
what I meant was – and I probably should have stopped there – was this: maybe they come, they look and they go “But this class is already good as is. No need for too much change” and THAT’s why they dont’post?
Yak’s Bend
did you consider that the dev’s come, look and say “nah, they’re good as is” ?
I play ele as main and… yeah, we’re the squishiest of squishy. Free kill. anyway, so I got a bit tired of dying and wanted to make a new alt, so I asked for ideas, said I didn’t want to for Warrior because c’mon, I want SOME challenge… and I got recommended (yes, in that order) necro, then guardian, then mesmer.
Yak’s Bend
yes and no. see… I don’t mind having challenging content for those who want it. But, I very much mind if the objective is: “complete all sub-achievements to get this goodie” and one of the sub-events is insanely difficult. Granted, this hasn’t been the case lately – if we keep it to the LS line. Instead what they do is have options: either complete the LS-related dailies or complete the LS challenges.
Thing is, I’m guessing I’m not the only casual player out there. And for us casuals… making gold takes AGES. We don’t have the time to champtrain for hours on end, or to collect mats from all maps for more hours on end; or… well, you get it. I’ve got a level 80 and a level 66 but it took me 7 months to get there.

I don't do Jumping Puzzles because I'm horrible at them. I don't do PvP because I haven't found the "fun" factor in it. I've 100% given up on TEQ because what's the point if there's no way of winning it in open world...If I don’t like it, I don’t do it. It’s that simple. Even if there is a shiny at the end that I would absolutely love. Case in point – SAB. I wanted that pistol skin soooooo much, but I’m not overly fond of SAB (likely because I suck at it). As such, I didn’t do it, I didn’t get the skin I wanted. Yup, that simple.
It all comes down to personal choice. You only feel as much pressure to do something as you’re willing to feel, because the only person pressuring you for that shiny is you.
That’s my take on it anyway.
I play this game for fun, and if the (grind or non-grind) event isn’t fun, I won’t do it, end of story.
Edited to add: I’ve even missed out on completing my dailies because I didn’t feel like gathering that day.

that blue rag drops everywhere, so cheap on trade post too you just sell it to merchant lol
What Flubble said. The economy is oversaturated with silk and thick leather; they’re as cheap as copper and green wood on the Trading Post. Which is a weird discrepancy to have to put it mildly.

HUGE problem: do any of the other crafting stations randomly give you weapons or armor that might cause negative stats? no? then don’t change cooking. it’s out-of-ordinary enough as is.

to be fair, there was rather a prominent cry from the Sylvari community to make the glow more uniform: i.e. either have all Sylvari cultural armor glow or clearly mark which ones do and which ones don’t. Go check, there are several threads about it over the past few weeks/months.
As for the textures, yes please, bring them back?

I play on a US server (YB) from Europe. I do so because I want to stay in contact with friends across the pond, and this is one of the ways I can do that. Now, the US peak time is at 4AM for me. YB is not on top of the zerk-pole as servers go. I have never once beat Teq since the redesign because I’m only on during the off-hours, so even in the beginning there would be maybe… 20-30 people there, max. Now it’s none. Also, I don’t WANT to guest to a different server, it completely defeats the entire purpose of the game experience for me.

Ranger: oh, I dunno, I’m leveling one now with the Greatsword as main, that usually goes: 3-2-5-1-loot
as for Ele’s, I loooove my ele, most fun to play of all the classes I’ve tried. Sure, you gotta learn to dodge but that’s part of the fun as I’ve enabled a trait that does 5-damage whenever I successfully dodge without using my 5-ability.

As a woman, I feel the same way when I see players use the term “R@pe”. It makes me cringe. Whenever I see “R@pe” used lightly in chat, I report the person. To me, r@pe represents a horrifying act that I have learned to be wary of all my life. So seeing people use that term flippantly is disturbing.
So while I can’t claim to understand your frustration entirely, I have felt similar things. And you are right, the derogatory use of the term “gay” needs to change.
I’d hereby like to add my virtual “yes please” to the full ignore and the personalised ignore list. After all, there are undubitably people who feel extremely offended by the fact that a female has access to internet.

3) tangent: I’ve noticed myself getting a bit annoyed in QD when people don’t know which WP means which code word (I’ve seen people not knowing where to go for SB). I mean, sure it takes people a while to learn the map, but seriously… Queensdale is THE most over-populated map in the game, if you constantly have to ask where to go people get annoyed, and I’m not the only one. Suggestion 1: Join a guild. Guildies are usually all really helpful towards one another. Suggestion 2: just run the map until you know what’s where. Just… please don’t spam the map chat the entire time.
Conversely, as a new player I have to say that it’s pretty inconsiderate when there are 20 or 30 people running around doing something and none of them will take a minute out of their busy days to explain where the train is going and generally how to get there. Sometimes one kind soul will take the time, which is good. I’ve also seen it where nobody will answer at all.
Running the map is not going to show you where the champions are, especially if a mob slaughters them in 30 seconds every time they spawn.
Good point; Suggestion 3: private message (whisper) someone you see on the map that has either a guild tag and/or a downwards arrow next to their level. This shows that they’re several levels above the area. Or anyone calling out champs or events; these are people open for chatting, and they’re at the event; probably going for another one later. Aside from the fact that when people are spoken to directly, it’s more difficult to ignore (unless they’re total kittens, in which case try again. most people are nice), most guilds are pretty much always recruiting even if they’re not always advertising. Strike up a chat and if you like the user, you’ll probably like the guild. It’s better than the often infantile map chat anyways.
I’ve only ever had one unpleasant/creepy case of whispers when someone asked me for money. that was…. weird.

3 pieces of observation:
1) it really depends on which server you’re on. I’m on one of the medium-low population servers and while there are drawbacks (we really have to push HARD to compete with the zerker worlds in WvW), there are also plus sides: I’ve very rarely seen any unpleasantness in the QD map chat over champs and trains. It’s considered polite to notify people that a champ is up… if nobody shows up or asks to wait in, say, 2-3 min, just go ahead and kill it. Champs in QD, are IMO the best way to level up a new alt; and most of them are doable even on a relatively low level alt.
2) I’ve pulled Cobalt out of a white bag. Twice. Both times from Troll in QD and within about a week from each other. However, that was a couple of months ago. Still, it happened.
I’ll just preface this with: I’m a casual player. I rarely enter pvp; sometimes play WvW, and sometimes do a few dungeons/fractals. Mostly I just roam around, chatting with friends in guild :P
I’ve got a l80 ele, l53 mesmer and l47 ranger; and from versatility of things you can do, ele beats everyone hands down.
mesmer is so boring, everyone only ever plays with the greatsword, and for good reason. Sure, the mesmers don’t die as often but neither are they any fun to play. same 5 skills over and over again. I created it because everyone kept saying how much fun it is and… nope.
The ranger is more fun, as it has more viable weapons you can use, plus the pet. You get a more dynamic way of playing, there’s a good mix of ranged and melee attacks etc. All in all, it’s a lot more fun to play than the mesmer.
but the ele – sure, it’s vulnerable, but it’s SO much fun. Once you’ve played ele, other classes feel sluggish and slow, and limited. Sure, the critics will say that ele only needs to be hit once, so it NEEDS to be fast. Which is true to an extent, but in terms of immersion… let’s face it, I’m squishy, and in times of confrontation much more likely to run away and try to attack from afar than take a massive beating in the face (=warrior). Also, the ele has conjure weapons, summoned elementals, elemental storms and excellent condition removal.
so, yeah, unless you want to make GW2 your 2nd career and are only interested in having fun with some challenge, ele is a good choice.

If the idea is that TEQ is this really exclusive bit of content that only the hardcore players will take on, then why oh why is it spawning every 3 hours? If it’s spawning more often than, say once a day, then I expect it to be possible to kill on any open world, by any server, at any time of day; maybe not necessarily as part of your average daily activities, such as exploring or what have you but…
(edited to add: ok that sounded too farm-y. I meant, it should be do-able with a little bit of coordination on any server. sure, you get the annoyance that certain people will farm the hell out of it but better that than having an entire map deserted because the hardcore players have gone guesting and the more casual players have found something else to do.)
As it is now, I get the impression that Anet really wants us to kill it but focus ONLY on killing it. Like, mobilize EVERYONE. Sorry, but there’s other content too, vying for our attention. Content that is actually unique and might not be repeated after the current month. Content that is less demanding but not nearly as repetitive and more fun to do as a group. Content that doesn’t have a 15 min finish window.
I get that there ought to be more challenging parts to the game, and tastes vary and all that, I do. But really, teq is just sending mixed messages. Well, really the way it goes most of the time I’m on is “come get me!! nah, never mind, try again in a few hours” – why would I continue trying to do it then; if it’s 1) not fun 2) not rewarding 3) not unique 4) doesn’t advance my character nor my guild

My ele is female Sylvari, I generally run with s/d; and I loooooove my scepter’s skin: Ember. Goes so well with the Sylvari natural “organic” look PLUS the Elementalist look-and-feel. I mean, if any of the races is supposed to be an elementalist, then sylvari are it, cliché or not but it’s true.

I’ve got a S/D condi-build, focusing on signets and arcane
0-0-30(IV, IX, XII)-10(II)-30(V, X, XI)
Notes: on the dagger I’ve got the superior sigil of corruption to stack the condi-damage. The armor is Rampager (Power-Precision-Condition damage) with the Superior rune of the Elementalist for extra power and condition damage.
Though I’ve given some ground on toughness (e.g. could have picked the Carrion or Rabid set), I’ve got the Earth attunement to compensate; plus whenever I’m in trouble I just tune to Water and dodge which gives me a “free” D-5-Water, then swith to Earth and dodge again, which gives me a “free” and fast D5-Earth
This set-up gives me a fairly good 1687 Power, with a 43% Critical chance and 893 Condition damage. I generally play attuned to Earth and Fire, very rarely use Air.
