Watchwork Pick: Why No Response?
…..but with the pick you can collect as many as you want.
That’s not quite true…..I farmed Orr this morning for an hour and hit every node I could find and got about a dozen sprockets….I wanted MANY more. It does have a finite drop rate and players have limited time.

K… let me rephrase, a gemshop item that is the MAIN way of getting sprockets into the game is a horrible idea. My reasoning for it being the main method is because in a home instance you collect a few per day, but with the pick you can collect as many as you want.
But it isn’t the main way.
The main way is killing Aetherblades and mining the Sprocket Node in the home instance. Sure the Node only gives a couple each day, but at least you are guaranteed to get them.

The node in my home instance gives me at least 8 sprockets per day, sometimes more. I actually got 9 sprockets from it yesterday.
The pick is only good if you focus on mining rich node. In specific rich iron and platinum node.
Else the benefit is marginal. For people who focus on orr harvesting, the pick isn’t that great.
Or if you do a ton of harvesting like me.
It’s pretty obvious that a lot of people have picked up on the earning potential of the Watchwork Pick though. My profits have gotten slimmer each time the Pick came back.
That’s only because sprocket prices are falling back toward 3s again as supply recovers.
RIP City of Heroes
3s is 3s to many!
3s is 3s to many!
Says the guy who doesn’t own one….
I get it’s not fair, but it seems obvious they are not going to get rid of it so you might as well jump on the bandwagon.

Lol, I don’t have one because i choose not to have one, I knew about/could have bought one either time that they have been around in the gem shop. I will not buy an item I feel is P2W as that would give Anet the impression that people approve of their P2W items.
You must heavily twist the true meaning of P2W to believe that….
If you ever played a REAL P2W game you would realize how laughable that claim is.

Considering there are people who believe that buying cosmetics from the gem store makes this game pay to win, it seems there are a number of people with “flexible” definitions of the term.
I still wonder why people don’t complain about the sickles .. because they are faster than the normal .. so pay to win
I can’t count the minutes i have spared when farming lemongrass because i don’t have to fight the raptors .. bought 9 sickles for maybe 600g all together and have maybe already made 2-3 gold more thanks to the speed ..
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
I am confused and this is not sarcasm. If we have the ability to farm gold -> convert to gems -> buy the watchwork pick; how is that pay to win?
If there was no conversion and only a direct real world currency price then I would say there was an argument, even if only a slight one. However with the ability to convert currency there is nothing in the gemstore that can’t be bought by playing the game.
PS – I am not trying to open the can of worms of how much the conversion rate does/doesn’t support conversion.
PSS – I did buy one the second time it was offered in the gemstore so I could make my backpiece faster and watch those little gear minions at work.
PSSS – I do support other permanent gathering items getting an upgrade. Ex: The fused pick mining with a rare chance of gaining azurite.

Or the time I was harvesting a farm node with a veteran chasing me. Harvest, run, harvest, run…… I got all the nodes with that fast new sickle without having to stop and fight…. Pay to win.
I’d be curious to know how many who are upset about the watchwork pick bought the fast sickle that allows you to harvest on the move. Innocently bought of course, not thinking about it or not knowing the speed difference before purchase, but it does give more gold faster.

Good point astral, the fast sickle should be removed too.

ALL sickles are faster than the normal. Even the latest is faster i think, bought one
finally last night for my necro, and even if you start the normal kneel animation
you are ready before your down on your knees and can run instantly.

i guess then all the sickles should be made to be normal speed.
I asked Anet to exchange my bone pick for the equally priced watchwork pick and was told, “due to the nature of this item, it cannot be exchanged.” Having bought the bone pick before the watchwork pick existed, I feel I deserved an exchange. Despite pointing out that they issued refunds for duplicates of these items, they stuck to their guns and I will never purchase another endless harvesting tool.
