I think from the NPC Vendor at the Bazar for Festival Tokens. I bought at least the Quartz for my home instance there

You can buy all of the home node sprockets that originally came from achievements down at the docks in the Cliffs.

The sprocket drops make this everlasting pick less costly than the other options, but doesn’t in any way turn it into a money maker. Once you’ve sunk your gems into buying one, it sure seems like you’re earning a lot, but it still will take years to pay for itself.

That said, I’ll repeat what I said earlier: I think it was a bad move on the marketing department to offer an item in the gem shop with a feature that is not available in the game in any other way: you cannot farm sprockets (outside the home instance) reliably without it. No other gathering tool offers a bonus item that doesn’t drop naturally from the relevant node.

And I’ll put my money where my post is: I’m willing to give up the feature on the two picks I bought, if ANet wants to make this item like all the other everlasting tools. (Naturally, I’d prefer compensation, but I’m ok if none is offered.)

Less costly? It pays for itself. It turns my 1.5g mining runs into 2g. If you are a hardcore miner, it could pay for itself in under a month. That’s at the current price. The sprockets were selling for more before the festival.

I certainly don’t regret buying mine! I already had a full sprocket stack from Living World, so all my extras over 500 were sold at the trading post for 2-3 silver. Just from general play, I was getting 20-50 silver per evening.

I accept the perk. I wasn’t trying for it. I didn’t even know about it when I bought it; I just wanted an unlimited pick. Serendipity.

Though, the argument that the items should be available to players who missed the content is a decent one, and one I pondered before. Right now, players who have the materials can make it available through the trading post. But if those players taper off and demand doesn’t change, those prices climb. It’s not necessarily fair to the players who can’t generate them on their own.

It would be nice if they wrote an apology to everyone, and even nicer if they nerf the pick.

My main reason for bumping this thread is so people/Anet do not forget about the silly sprocket pick and the topics it spawned. I obviously can’t just say “bump” in the post now can I, since that is less then 15 characters and doesn’t spur any sort of conversation.

I want my pick to stay as is. I love the animations, and absolutely love being able to craft myself perplexity runes without having to buy extra sprockets. You can get sprockets from your home node so it’s not like there is no other way to get them.

I’m confused. Why do we want a nerf to the Watchwork pick? People paid the gems to get it, if some only for the reason to be able to harvest sprokets as well. Please enlighten me. What needs to be nerfed about it and why.

Include a return of sprockets on all permanent mining picks. Problem solved.

Afterwards, simply don’t make this mistake again with other time-limited materials so that this issue never, ever, comes back.

^ what if I bought the flame legion mining pick, but bought the watchwork also, should I be able to get refund for it? because if I know I’ll get sprocket from the other permanent mining pick also, I won’t be buying the watchwork one.

I’d prefer it if the Watchwork Pick didn’t give out sprockets, but that’s more from a desire for consistency among the tools than any desire to see it nerfed. Alternatively, maybe the other gathering tools could give out different mats (e.g. Molten Pick gives Azurite, Frost Logging tool gives Snowflakes).

And yet these picks have NOT come back (despite others having done so after the release of these ones) and none of the new gathering tools have had extra effects.

I suppose it is still possible that they will re-release this one and release new ones with effects, but it is rather unlikely, seeing as they haven’t done so yet.

I can’t believe the OP is still crying about this. You bought something and then later something better came out. Your original pick still does what it was advertised as being able to do. The new pick does what it was advertised to do. The game is already pay to win, this pick changes nothing. Anet should close this beaten dead horse of a thread already.

Pay to win? Seriously? Unless you consider “winning” by having all the fabulous outfites/minis/hair styles/instruments/etc. that do absolutly NOTHING to make your character better, or give an advantage over other players. The yes, this is Pay to win. Otherwise it has never been pay to win, and never will be. As the gems store items are COSMETIC vanity items. (with the exception of the boosters, but a limited time for a meager buff can hardly be considered a game breaking advantage).

The OP is saying the pick that gives sprockets is “pay to win” so I’m just informing him that the game is already this way. Pick or no pick.

oh I understand what the OP is saying. But what I don’t understand is how this game can be considered “pay to win” at all. The watchwork pick give a chance at finding sprockets. So with every node mined, you have a chance at getting 3s+ (current TP prices for spockets). How is that “Pay to win”? so you get a few extra silver from mining. So in the long run, you get a bit more gold quicker, which means you can buy what? more vanity items faster? If you are spending you time mining to get gold, you are doing it wrong, as it will take forever, and even longer just to make back the gold converted to gems for the pick, or to make up for the cash spent for the gems. Over a LONG period of time, you might actually make up the difference, but it is no way “Pay to win”, as there is no “pay to win” mechanic in this game at all.

Its more that the game is “Pay too get gold” and that from the very beginning since you could change gems to gold.
The pick is nothing else .. however i most say that recently i started to switch that pick from character to character before doing my mining runs.

Nonetheless have i just recently bought another bone pick for my latest character.

They aren’t going to add to the other picks and they aren’t going to remove it from the watchwork pick because that’ll be yet another rebate fiasco.

Although a refund wouldn’t actually hurt ANet aside from the time it takes Support to process their claims. ANet gets their money the moment gems are purchased, and refunded gems still have to be spent in-game.

If everyone bought a sprocket pick, the value of sprockets would drop to vendor price and the pick would lose the value of its bonus.

You can transfer your molten alliance pick to an alt, it doesn’t have to sit in the bank.

I don’t think that the pick was ever intended as a “vertical progression” to the gathering tools, but rather a way supply the watchwork sprockets that otherwise have no real method of creation now that Scarlett’s minions are gone.

I´d wager LS Season 2 gonna drop watchwork sprockets galore again, so its value will drop even further.

I’d poop myself from laughter if they stealth nerfed the pick a week after the current sale. Hyped pick gets bought up by everyone and then anet puts it on the chopping block. Now that’s an amazing marketing ploy.

And i just started to switch mine from one character to the next in Hoelbrak before my mining runs .. was so nice to get around 10s for each iron ore

And iron will also drop when the sanctum is away

So, from the replies in the reddit thread I figure most people on Reddit don’t care about it generating sprockets anymore (neutral), and in this thread people don’t like it or don’t care (negative/neutral).
