First of all, it’s [b]not[‘b] a major part of this game. It’s not in this game at all. Therefore there is nothing to take out.

Second, it’s my opinion, not fact. I have no control over what goes or does not go into the game. I don’t care one way or the other if you can duel or not. Not one little bit. It’s less trouble for me if they don’t put it in, but, and let me be perfectly clear to you: I don’t care one bit either way.

This game has – sPvP, PvE, and WvWvW. Already, 2/3 of your gameplay revolves around pvp. I don’t know where this idea is coming from that “the majority of players do not like [competition]”

Even the majority of players on the forum (which is subjective) is still a minority of the entire player base.

I hate being asked to duel. Even when you turn off dueling requests people still jump around you calling you names because you’re “afraid” to duel them. The whole mindset duelers just really bugs me.

Although I think ANet could set up like cages or rings in major cities for players to fight in. Those who want to duel can enter, and people like me are not constantly being harassed in the open world to duel. Everybody wins.

Arenas would be a good way to do it though, if it were implemented. Just please do not add a rclick on portrait to duel request someone.

I dont mind having dueling in the game,just as long it is in the pvp area.I dont need a bunch of children challenging me to duel every 5 min.

I don’t know, but I would think it would be similar to the way you gear through sPvP, not PvE.

I just have to put in my two cents. I love dueling…No I don’t /duel spam everyone i see in other games. I love WvW but hate Spvp.

Reasons Spvp dueling Doesn’t work.
1. It’s not even the same character as the one you’ve worked up in pve.

2. PVP and WvW follow different rulesets (try testing out a confusion built character in pvp then wvw)

3. A lot of stats can’t be replicated. (full berserkers in pvp gives vitality lol wut? etc)

4. People ALWAYS join my games when i find an empty server to duel in. they then run around either capping points making us map switch more frequently or attack while im dueling someone.

5. Spvp games are not long enough for some fights. Try dueling a guardian as a
guardian and the fights can last 20+ minutes while a game can only go 15

6. No consumables. Sometimes consumables are as much a part of your build as the traits/stats yet cannot be used in spvp.

7. Tons of loading screens!!! Lets say you want to try 2 different builds. you zone to the mists, spec, find a game. tell your friend which game is empty. zone in. fight once. zone back to the mists. respec. find another empty game join it and fight again.

I would love to see dueling implemented. I hate how almost all of the pvp in wvw is zerg vs zerg the most fun ive had in gw2 pvp are small skirmishes at the EB JP.

It always makes me sad when im dueling in wvw that I can’t duel the people from my server. I want to see who would win in a wvw pvp setting me or my friend but its not worth switching servers for and Spvp isnt even close to wvw pvp.

Only question I have for the anti dueling people is why?

If you are worried about immersion Isn’t costume brawl even more immersion breaking?

If you are worried about getting dueled Anet has shown that they are very anti greifing and would probably put an auto decline.

If you are worried about class imbalance being highlighted… There are plenty of places people already 1v1 and having dueling won’t cause more complaints imo. it might actually cause less complaints since some classes that seem overpowered are easier to beat once you understand them such as Mesmer and Theif.

I would have no reason to ever go in to a custom arena, so what is done there I could not really care less about, so your question really makes no sense.

You may want to go back and read the rest of the thread and see what it actually is that the players asking for dueling really want.

Some players have quit over the addition of optional end game gear, so I don’t think it’s unlikely. People assign different sets values to what they like and dislike, so anything can be a game breaking addition(or removal), really. Will dueling make more people happy than angry? ANet seems to think so, and they have the most data on their playerbase.

My guess it that they always wanted for GW2 to be a real MMO with gear progression, dueling, mounts, raids, gear inspect and the like, but knew they couldn’t radically change that many aspects from their previous game at once without causing having their existing GW1 fanbase turn against them, which was a valuable marketing asset at the time. A transitional period was needed to keep the negative publicity at an acceptable level so the old timers could leave in peace and get replaced with new customers without sacrificing their plans for GW2.

I don’t mind the idea of duelling as long as there’s a clear way to tell people you are/aren’t interested. Something that will stop people from attempting to duel or inviting everyone they happen to see and/or spamming chat with “any1 1v1?” endlessly.

Best approach IMO would be either to have a designated area you have to go to, like an Arena in LA or an area in The Mists so everyone who wants to duel can find each other easily and everyone who wants to avoid it can do so or to do it like costume brawl where you have to manually switch over to participating somehow and if you don’t you can almost not notice it’s happening.

I doubt many people have an objection to an arena where where players can go and duel, because you have to opt in to something like that. Anyone objecting to that is selfish, IMO. You going off somewhere else to duel doesn’t affect me in the slightest. There is enough desire in the player base to justify developer time in creating an arena for people to duel in, and a way for people to watch those duels.

However, wanting to wave your weenie around Lion’s Arch while labeling those of us that don’t want to be forced watch as selfish is hypocritical in the extreme.

I hate duels. I hate the duel system in most MMOs. I have blocked so many annoying “duelists” in other MMOs just for this.

Costume brawls are voluntary. You “suit” up and go. It’s a blast to me because it’s not a bunch of little morons running around asking for duals to ppl that just don’t care to. Almost irritates me as much as the old gold moochers did.

True but the pro-duelists will never utilize costume brawl because there is no the fun in showing off your obviously superior gameplay when your dressed as an ooze.

I don’t see the difference. I think the OP is just asking for the ability to 1v1 without having to do something that wasn’t intended, such as using an empty PvP space or go into WvW.

What am I missing?

I thought dueling was optional in other games as well. Is that not the case?

Yes, it’s completely optional, and it’s completely unobtrusive.

Ya, I feel like I am missing something huge about all of this. People keep telling me to read the thread, but all I see is a guy asking to do legit 1v1 and people freaking out.

Having dueling arenas would be fine with me. Put them in the major cities other than LA, maybe the population would spread out a bit. Oh, and don’t put a PoI, vista or skill challenge in these arenas. I do not want dueling everywhere because people will duel in some places just to annoy others.

As to people whispering you to duel, that’s what block is for.

It gets old blocking numerous ppl everyday. Especially when I rarely have to block anyone now. The first idioot to ask me to duel for all my stuff would cause me to ragequit the game.
