Oh, I’d like to amend my statement….

So, the charges, I think, will be 1 armor or weapon to 1 armor or weapon. So it probably will be better, depending on the skin price, to request a refund on the dupe skins. After dissecting the video, it appears that what it tries to show you is you can transmute your entire outfit at once (so, 6 charges for 6 pieces of armor not multiple charges for 1 piece). I’m not positive anymore about what my stance is going to be.

It doesn’t seem like it solves what I was hoping it would solved, to avoid having to carry around 3 sets of chest, leg and feet armors – and wanting to carry around more.

Well, that’s not entirely true. Yes, I would not have to do that any more if I wanted to change my look whenever I wanted to, on the fly.

However, they key phrase in all my requests was – ‘like a dye’. In that, I was happy if they made me use stones and crystals (which you have to buy) to ‘unlock’ skins. I wanted to be able to use them freely, like a dye, without charge, whenever I wanted to, after I had unlocked the skin.

Those screenshots elude to not being able to change your look on the fly without restriction once you know a skin.

So I’ll have to carry around those 3 sets still, it would seem. And be limited to how many other looks I want based on bag space.

I’m also concerned about the line regarding town clothes about “items no longer available being converted to an endless tonic”. Like the halo? Every time I want to wear my old gathering shorts, I have to click a tonic item in my inventory? How will that work?

Gotta agree with this fine gentleman. I’m happy for the system, it makes a HUGE difference, but having to spend Transmutation Stones EVERYTIME you want to change appareance? Wow, not cool.

Looks like the latter, unfortunately. Looks like you’ll even need to burn charges just to redye your gear.

I wish they had done this like other games, and monetized it by charging for extra wardrobe panes, rather than nickel and diming us each time we want to change a look. A charge could be used to set a look that you then have permanently, and can switch back to at will. Then each extra look would require a new charge.

Obviously, under that system, charges would need to be more rare.

The new system will be nice for piece acquisition, but I’ll still be coming up with a final look for each character and likely keeping it that way.

And you’re the reason the feel they can get away with this execrable behaviour.
No willpower, just a credit card and an internet connection.

if you’re converting gold to gems and the cost for the item is less than the cost of the armour, what’s the problem? It’s not like you can’t get gem items with in game money.

which is why they designed the currency exchange how they did so that we’ll be getting less and less gems for our gold as time goes on thus creating a slow building de facto pay wall.

My only question / concern is regarding skins from the hall of monuments and the acheivement panel.

Before the change one could use these an infinite amount of times, across the entire account, for free. How will these be affected? Will skins like these remain as they are? WIll there now be a cost every time you choose to apply a zenith weapon or radiant / hellfire skin?

Pair this change with the dye change and it seems that we need a FAQ as the blog leaves somethings out and is worded awkwardly for others.

A lot of this also depends on the cost / aquirement of tranmutation charges.

Also what about all armor and weapons I have accumulated during the years that have been equipped or salvaged, would we be getting all the skins back ?

I would like to know this too seeing as how I once had the Profane Armor skin and no longer have it.

The purchase is in my Gem Store log though.

and you’re the reason this game would fail if it was only people like you who played it, you want everything to be free

how else are they going to make money?

i have a rather large pool of free income, and i choose to buy stuff in the gem store to support a game i love

hell, without me, a lot of the stuff you’re getting for free in this feature patch would be in the gem store

and without those not paying you’d have an even emptier world.

“Some basic clothing items that are no longer available for purchase will be converted into endless tonics. "

Clothes? Tonics?
What is the relation between these ?

I’m assuming some town clothes are being deleted, and tonics will be released to “transform” into wearing those clothes.
Any clarification available or perhaps some examples of what town clothes will be replaced?

Right, this system doesn’t solve the issue of lugging around a variety of armor sets (zerker for pve, pvt for wvw, etc). This just solves the desirability for easy outfitting, and the collecting/reusing of skins – ex: the 1-off skins from events or skins purchased from the gem store.

It would be nice if they implemented some type of closet for additional sets, but that would be a different system entirely. Then again, they never solved that issue in GW1 either, so we might just end up having a bag devoted to additional armors.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

gem price goes down if people buy gems and get gold with them. The amount of gold in the game is also increasing fast. When gems were cheap, people were selling precursors for 20 gold. If the pay wall would eventually happen then people would be using it to get gold, thus demolishing it. I don’t see anything wrong with the system or how the economy is now.

I don’t get anything for free, as I haven’t played since November, and every move they make like this drives me further away from ever playing again.

The point is, a little monetisation is acceptable.
Yet ArenaNet are hellbent on finding ways to monetise every last update, and the gullibility of the userbase allows them to get away with this.

I can guarantee I spent more on this game than you ever have before I snapped to my senses and realised how I was being exploited. The relationship between myself and ArenaNet was very similar to that between a junkie and a pusher.

Oh, and the developers? Yeah, they really don’t see the gains that this monetisation strategy earns.
This is all about management and shareholders, hence the high turnover of junior staff.

Look at the things that are being monetised. If you actually got something new out of this, something that consisted of meaningful gameplay, I would argue that would be worth money.
But they’re simply finding ways of monetising existing systems that require as little manpower as possible.

This really isn’t value for money. The fact that once it’s implemented it needs no maintenance should make this at most a one time charge, but instead they’re getting you to pay for every use of something it only took one guy to implement and that will require little to no future development.

Please note that due to restrictions placed on my account, I am only allowed 1 post per hour.

I wonder how anet will deal with the twilight + sunrise = eternity forging after the patch. It would not seem fair to unlock sunrise and twilight skins and still be able to sell eternity for profit.

Well as Healix said, you’re going to need to equip/salvage/rightclick accountbind it, in which all three cases, you won’t be able to sell it after.

You can bind twilight and sunrise, and when u craft eternity, you can choose to not bind it and sell it instead. U get the gold and the 2 legendary skins.

I feel that they have missed out on a great revenue option, make it so items aren’t automatically unlocked in the wardrobe and the player has to use an item to unlock them (crystal) once that item has been used it unlocks the item for infinite use.

It would take over $400 to unlock everything and frankly collectors are crazy, heck I would have spent heaps… this system… it is great, better than the last system.

But I won’t be using it often. A full set change is what, 11gems, more if you like carrying more than 4 weapons on your toon.

I was looking forward to being able to swap appearances from light to dark (good and evil) on my character, ah well back to the old gear swap manually.

Think of it like a piece of armor.

Even if the armor has a skin, it’s still an item with stats.

So, if you keep multiple sets of armor for their stat purposes, you could still swap the gear freely, no charge, because you have the physical item.

Same would apply with RP gear/hats/backpieces. If it was a physical item with stats (and not one of the only skins items), you can keep it in your inventory and apply it freely as many times as you want FOR THAT CHARACTER.

For all other characters, they’ll use the copy of the skin that exists in the Wardrobe, WITHOUT STATS, to apply to their EXISTING armor, with stats.

I’m curious what happens to items we put on once or received and summarily threw it out not knowing how precious it was at the time.

While leveling and doing story mode I didn’t realize at the time that a number of items would only ever be available while doing it and I should have kept the items to transmute later on at 80.

Hopefully these items will come back to us. Don’t look forward to leveling another medium armor class to 55 to get my chest again.

you’re calling vanity items monetizing? Try a pay to play MMO. For example WoW.

- you pay the sub fee
- you can buy level 90s by paying 50 euros
- you still have to buy expansions
- there’s still a store with mounts and pets in game
- you pay for moving each character to a different server, as opposed to moving them all
- name changes are far more expensive
- class, race changes, etc are monetized.

Then on top of that there are hard locks that make sure that you can’t clear the game too fast. For example you can only run a raid once a week. Oh and you can’t buy anything with in game money.

The gem store in Guild Wars 2 in comparison is completely harmless.

The wardrobe really is whatever to me, it’s not something I’d use.

Town clothes… the pieces I got: riding clothes, khaki shorts, shirts, a vest. Loved them. And the mix and match aspect with the festival costumes.
Gone. Not “whatever,” not “fine.”

In general, what of toys/costume brawl system?

I’d just like them to explain ‘why’ this is being done this way. I have a set I like to use for town clothes that consists of a vest, khaki shorts and the witches boots from the original Halloween costume.

Why am I not allowed to wear that any more? Jesus? America? To help ward off Neil Degrasse Tyson from poisoning our children on Sunday night? Really, why?

You can make a post that talks about collaboration, then make a sticky about exactly how we’re supposed to post in a collaboration thread, but refuse to answer simple questions about the reasoning behind some of your decisions.

It’s not very collaborative.

You get angry with us when we make negative comments about ‘you’, as a company, when we aren’t singling anyone out in particular, like it’s a personal attack. That’s fine, but if you are going to play that card, it’s a two way street. ‘We’ are an entity, and ‘we’ would like the same level of consideration.

Well what do you suggest their system would be? Like all pay to play MMOs? Should they have a sub fee and a store? Because I don’t think that you will find any true MMO without any kind of store. And you will most definitely never find a completely free MMO, because quite simply you not only need to pay the original developers for all the work, you need to pay the current ones doing continued development and then on top of that there’s server costs.
