@Paulus magintie.7432 (cant figure out quoteing cause im a noob…)

You say monks are healers…only in GW lore(maybe?)
But monks (at least from the games ive played,2 that i can count and explain),are melee dps/support. Support being a very interesting concept for these guys.
Not heals(in some cases very little),but buffs,as defensive, and sometimes offensive.

In one the more common games ive played with monks(FFXI)
They were Melee dps, with the ability, with a subjob to support heal,or buff. And (imo…lol) crap tanks, unless subbed ninja.

In EQ/EQOA,not so sure about EQ PC(EQOA was on PS2),they were melee dps, with tons of self buffs. In some cases (EQOA)they were able to tank.
In EQPC i remember a good skill they had “Feign Death” basically they could pull mobs(this would be good in dungeons) run to group and then feign death, remove all aggro(yes sorta like wow hunters).

In otherwords….Monks arent exactly healers. They are more of melee dps,and maybe ranged(holy spells, like chants? idk) It woulnt ruin the “no tank,no healer” and would add a real good class( a “fist” wep user)

But any who, im rambling and i think i got my point across…lol

Expansions will most likely come in this order.

1. Cantha

2. ?? (Something to do with Jormage maybe, or that will be saved for GW3)

3. Elona

Look at the lore for the reasons why.

Classes from GW1 and their chances of being in the expansions

Ritualist- no. Ranger seems to have quite a few skills taken from ritualist. His main focus seems to have been spread out to multilple people.

Assassin – Thief is really close to this one

Paragon – High chance

Dervish- High Chance

In terms of new classes, its going to be tough. They’ve covered a lot of classes. But with no holy trinit, it should add a lot of room for creation.

Cantha – Eastern type of theme. Possible themes taken from Asian areas : Samurais, maybe some kind of monk.

Races that might be added: The eagles ones, tengu, are probably the highest chance. I’m not too sure about the other races. I think the eagles even more because of their area in lions arc. It is just screaming DLC.

The biggest place you should look at is Corilois Plaza. 6 Azura gates with unknown exits. There is a really good chance that these places will lead to either mutli racial main towns in expansions or main towns for new races.

I’m sure people love monks and all…. but can we stay away from Kodan’s and Monk for a while. I really want to avoid the crap we GW2 players will hear.. about GW2 copying Mists of PokePandas.

As for classes….

I would really love to see….

I’m not quite sure… a ritualist is very close to the necromancer or elementalist imo. Unless they got different classes mechanics….

And ergo there’s goes my thought process… maybe we should think up of class mechanics instead of actual classes?

Need to ponder a bit more… but I think class mechanics we would like to see would be better than “classes”.

The Tengu seem well set up to be the next playable race. The Tengu have the location of their city already in game, four houses for the establishment of personal story, multiple paths leading to areas already open ingame, and strong hints they are thinking of becoming more active soon.

The Largos also feel like another possiblity.

As for new class, ritualist could fit. Im not really sure. Id actually expect Arenanet to go with something new. Monk, Paragon and Assassin are roled into current classes. Dervish is too tied to the human gods. Ritualist has some cross over with other classes too but not so much that it could be comfortable as its own class.

I would however expect a heavy armor class if they add a new one.

PS: Idk for sure if ritualist would be in, but it and the dervish are the ONLY profs from GW1 that aren’t in GW2 without a lore reason behind it (paragons and monks combined their trainings and became the guardian)

A morphing class like a Druid might be fun. You learn from pets in the wild, and when you morph to them, you get to learn their 5 moves. Learn as many as you want, load up 4 at a time, sort of like the Elementalist elements.

Seems like the mechanics are there.

Or rather than a Druid, make it a Doppleganger where you become other humanoids with abilities? Thinking out loud

The only class I’d really like would be something more range-centric. Ideally purely ranged…

For lack of a better name, call them “Mercenary” or something.
Give them Longbows, Shortbows, Rifles, Pistols, and possibly throwing knives, with 15ØØ range on at least one of those and with the bulk of their utility skills being related to maintaining their distance.

I know most people wouldn’t be huge on it simply due to the crossover it’d have with Thief, Warrior, and Ranger, making it seem redundant, but I’d like something that takes particular aspects of them as its primary focus, while leaving the other aspects behind. This is an archetype that I’ve wanted from the start and I’ve been rather irked that none of the current options have fully run with it, dragging those aspects of the professions down to facilitate the aspects I don’t particularly care about (Melee combat, pets, etc.)

As for races, the only particularly plausible one I’d like to see at all would be the Largos. Tengu are probably far more likely, but unless they get a Gensokyou-esque revamp, I’m not a big fan. >_>
Djinn would actually be my first choice, but I don’t believe there’s much of a chance of that.

That said, I half-hope that we don’t get new races/professions, simply because I don’t want to have wasted my time building up my Ranger. >_>

Gone for good after Halloween 2Ø12.
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.

I’d say Ritualist, but now that I think about it, the existing Necromancer class functions how I envision a Ritualist would. (I haven’t played GW1)

I know it’s already been suggested, but I’d like to build on the idea of a shapeshifter. I could imagine it working like an elementalist does now: 4 different forms based on F1 to F4, lower amount of weapons available than other classes with weapon swapping disabled. Each form would have their own trail line with the 5th trait line granting increased speed between transformations. Each form offering a different playstyle.

The only other idea I can think of right now would be some kind of medium armour wearing ranged weapon specialist, who makes use of shortbow, longbow, pistols and rifles. And daggers to use as throwing knives, like the thief.

For Cantha, I’d love to see a Martial Monk class. C’mon, the ‘/dance’ in GW1 for monks was a martial arts form reminiscent of a Shaolin Monk – it was such a tease! Hell, even Mhenlo could be described as a Shaolin Monk inspired concept. I imagine Monks could be a more physical style CC with skills that causes stuns, cripples, knock backs/downs, and stances with various effects – increase toughness, counter chains, evade, confusion..etc…

As for a new race…well, this might be breaking lore a bit, but how about – Robots/Androids? I mean, we already got moving anthropomorphic plants! Whose not to say that somewhere down the line, some Ashura successfully created a group of intelligent Golems/Robots/Androids who, after the death of their creator, continued to thrived on their own!

Everyone is talking about race, the OP wanted to talk about class.

I think Monk would be neat. From what I hear it was in the first game, correct?

I think that if they introduce different weapons, that opens up the possibility of different classes. I know Tera is a touchy subject around here, but I liked the idea of a Slayer or Berserker… Maybe a mix between slayer/berserker and a mesmer(only without the illusions and all of the confusion/trickery that comes along with it). Im thinking of abilities of Zelda, but wielding a greatsword or an Axe, or duel swords. You melee like any other class, but if you needed to go ranged, swinging your blades project energy as well. I LOVED how in Zelda you would shoot a beam out of your blade, similar to how Mesmer is.. I am just not sure I dig the clones of a mesmer.

Thanks to the weapon system there is absolutely no need of new classes:

You want a druid? Give the ranger a Staff, and with the already included Nature Magic trait line, the spirits of nature, and the mechanic allowing you to use animal in combat you’ve covered the druid.

A corsair? Give the thief a second sword and a rifle, he already has pillaging skills.

A martial artist? Give the thief a staff and make him use it in close combat (same way the necromancer uses melee weapons as magic weapons) and include a new family of Utility Skills related with martial arts. There are already examples in fantasy and fiction of staff wielders thieves (Gambit from the X-Men for example).

You can basically use any existing profession and new weapons to creat every stereotype.

And include completly new classes means a lot of balancing works as new mechanics and huge list of utility skills are included.

I vote for increasing weapon option and utility skills families rather than including new classes.

Races on the other hand add more flavour without breaking balance. IMO races like the Skritt, Kodan or Quaggan aren’t candidates for playable because of characer creation and everyone looking exactly the same (plus, two of them have a racial sympaty missions which I think rules out their inclussion as playable).

I think two great candidates would be Tengu (they were going to be there and they even have their starting zone reserved) that would allow different forms and colors like that concept art of different tengu looking like tropical birds, and the other race would be the Largos, a very cool race that is subtedly introduced to the player and that have some kind of society divided in houses that would allow for some biography options and the inclussion of an evil group from an specific house like the flame legion with the Charr.

Something that can fly. Of course, time limited though with cool downs.
Existing race/class can equip ‘air’ gear, to get the ‘flight’ ability.
Henceforth, new ‘air’ traits/skills.

Hence, you’ll have all land, sea and air attacks.

In that regard, I say give us a Paragon.

Weapons: 1h spear (melee), 1h javelin (ranged), shield, sword, greatsword.

Profession skills would be “Echoes” like in GW1, giving the team a specific boon every time a shout or chant starts or ends on them.
Utilities would be shouts & chants that give a mixture of boons to allies and/or condition to enemies.

But don’t make it into a UP buffbot joke like in GW1, make it balanced with what we have here.

The problem with adding a new class in any MMO: Every player, their immediate family including mother, father, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, first cousins, in-laws, and their respective pets will be playing this class.

Not only does this absolutely flood the game, but that class is treated differently from the rest for several months – overly scrutinized and and the forum will be flooded with “OP” and “UP” so much that the class will be re-worked 12 times before players finally shut up.

Let’s bring up WoW, shall we? Death Knights. When they were released, there were more DK’s than the average 10th grader could count. Not only does this absolutely over-saturate the game with the “role” (not as much of an issue in GW2 due to the trinity removal), but the demand for armor/weapons for that class goes through the roof. The market is ruined (guess it’s already a factor in GW.. soo…). Also, many people, me included, are not interested in being the exact same as everyone around me.

Individualism is not an easy thing to look for in an MMO, but at least in playing a Norn Engineer, I have some. Basically this means I will have no interest in playing a new class even if I like the idea. Many others will feel the same.

I think the only way to add classes to a game is to add other branches to existing classes – another trait tree for each or another weapon type.

I think both races, the tengu and the largos will be in the game, but in different expansions, who will be first? I do not know. Maybe the kodan will be in the game too as playable race but i doubt it, I think more of them as a complement race like the krait, quaggan, hylek, etc.

For a class, I would like they find a way to bring the assassin back, but I doubt it they will be able to. I don’t think the dervish will make it either, they are to human oriented since they get their powers from the six gods. I really don’t know what class they could implement since they got almost all covered with the ones we have now.

I’m more excited about the new weapons they will bring. I remember read somewhere in the forum someone asking for two-handed axes being implemented, and a red answered “We have to save some cool things for expansions”. So for the weapons I would like two-handed axes, lances, fist weapons, scythes, katares, and other professions implementing old weapons in their kit, like a mesmer with double pistols, or a thief finally being able to snipe with a rifle!

I don’t know, I think it’s a lot easier to write in new races now instead of later. Tengu and largos compliment each other, with tengu being bright and largos dark and mysterious. Largos allow ArenaNet a good chance to expand underwater combat to make it more fun, fluid, and dynamic than it currently is. Beyond the light and dark contrast, one race also looks to the skies (Dominion of Winds, tengu at some point longing to return to the skies, etc) and another dwells in the seas.

I can see them both coming in the same expansion. At least, I really, really hope they do. I don’t want to have to wait two years to play a largos, especially with how much of a tease the largos already in-game are. At least in my personal story, they seemed way more involved than any tengu ever did. Even outside of it, for that matter, with there being mention of largos around Malchor’s Leap helping refugees. There’s also a ton of fun potential for customization with the guys. Imagine picking and customizing masks instead of just a face. Half-masks, mouth breathers, whole masks, etc…
