Unlucky since launch, RNG isn’t random

Many players will find this topic uneccesary, irrelevant, or a threat to your income because you make a ton selling precursors you are lucky enough to forge but I don’t care. I have been playing GW2 since early access (I was in beta too, but that doesn’t count) and I have forged 1000s of weapons, done countless dungeons, WvW, and events without a single precursor drop.
I feel like my account has a hex on it, some quirk in the coding that prevents nice things from being added to my loot table and I’m tired of it. It’s time to end the nonsensical RNG where legendary precursors are concerned.

4.2k hours played since headstart, +1k gold down the forge, 0 precursor drops yet 4 legendaries and 1 precursor waiting to be crafted all thanks to the wonders of the TP.
If you want a legendary then just buy the kitten thing from the TP.

Nothing legendary about that.
Don’t worry. It’s normal:
Over 3.3k hours. Over 11k achievement points. 80k kills in wvw. Every living story event meta won. etc.etc.etc.
Not one precursor drop.
I just can’t justify the TP or one legendary that would eat 3.3k hours of gold making. I need a drop..so I’m out of luck.

I feel for you and can relate as well with 5.3K hrs since early access(and BETAS as well), I can’t prove it but I believe there is an account RNG conspiracy. {:-þ -LOL
I feel your pain OP, we are on the same boat. I have lost over 1600 gold already. People usually tell me “you could have had 3 precursors for that money”. True, but they forget I did not spend them all at once. Playing since headstart and trying to get one from very beginning.
I think forging precursors is one of the worst mechaninc I have ever seen, people that got one of it used no tactic, they just got lucky. Even the research with 23 precursors crafted is useless, you can spent the same amount and find yourself with empty hands.
Don’t forget that if people wouldn’t use forge, there would be ~90% less precursors available, so telling “don’t complain and stop gambling” is really not a solution.
What can we do with all the gold wasted… well, 2 options, keep trying and possibly rage quit or gather enough gold to buy one off the TP.

It does seem like Anet is trying to play God.
I only bought my precursor, but I still need to do the farming of… five other T6 materials, along with 100 Charged Lodestones.
Precursor-wise, it’d be kinda neat if there was a challenging, actually challenging and hard to defeat without actual teamwork, boss or encounter where it had a higher rate of dropping from. Or able to be bought with tokens gathered from doing the encounter a set number of times, or a train of such encounters that could be titled “Precursor to the Legend” or something like that, and all lead up to getting a particular precursor.
It’d make the item seem a bit more Legendary and a little less straight up boring grinding. (Only a little less, since you wouldn’t need to grind up gold for the precursor, but would need to grind up the other materials/gold for the other materials >.>)
After watching Dawn Spike from 580g to 800+ today alone all i have to say is…
Speculators are why we cannot have nice things. Bring out Precursor crafting / Scavenger Hunt so those of us stuck with everything but the precursors can get over the hump without praying to the RNG gods.
my god ! my acct is hexed too. never got a single precursor yet.
Nothing legendary about that.
^ This.
I’ve fought a number of people when roaming in WvW who had legendary weapons only to watch them faceplant as fighters. Same said for allies who will ping a bunch of legendary weapons in map chat only to watch them die if hard fights EVERY SINGLE TIME.
The sort of people that have multiple legendary weapons are people who are good with spreadsheets or just use rl money to buy them.
When it comes to actually playing the game, it’s a different story….

This person gets it.

You could work a week at a minimum wage job and spend that money on the Anet fun money store for a free legendary, or spend thousands of hours in game.
Your choice if you want one lol.
I’d love a precursor hunt…. hmm wasn’t that mentioned last year? If they’re trying to make players stay and not jump ship to TESO or Wildstar then they need to change the game’s economy. I seriously doubt the longevity of a game that is more trading post wars than an mmo.
thing is , not every country has minimum wage.
move to Murica !

Ahh the PTW shows up. Welcome, haven’t seen you in a while.
Here’s something funny.
A week ago I was playing FOTM, 38.
Some random guy got Dusk, Ascended GS and Ascended ring all in one FOTM run.
MEANWHILE I haven’t received a single FOTM skin in ages.
Working as intended.

I would’ve lost my mind if I were in your shoes. A guildy got 2 precursors last week, I said congrats and then logged out. I’m no longer happy for the success of others as it only highlights my historically bad luck.

Hey now you know how we feel when us who have been playing since head start didn’t get a single precursor drop and then they changed world boss chests to once per day to limit how fast precursors and exotics came into circulation.
Also a year and a half later, still no precursor drop.

I’ve known how you’ve felt the whole time. I was in early access day 1.

I’m still pretty sad about that change, even though I gave up attempting that method after killing too many dragons and bosses to count and getting… I think the best was an exotic worth two gold or so.
It’s also why I feel like Legendaries and their components should be a little less luck based. (Though for most there’s places to go farm the stuff but… farming mats that drop less often than rares is… just… so… not… fun… in any capacity… I’d rather do something with friends that’s fun, engaging, entertaining and worth my time to get the items, at least then it’d feel like a fun journey and less of a “bash 1 constantly for hours upon hours” thing).

I know how you feel. I mean I want a legendary weapon, but the hours to farm just the precursor alone. and I don’t have near enough money to just outright buy it, because that requires even more grinding. I’d rather have fun playing the game.
I got my preursor after gambling mystic toilet for 2 months in december.
My legendary is practically done, but I got bored of grinding all the time and wvw gives no gold.
Every time I see someone ping the 4 components for the forge to get their legendary all I do is smh. Still sitting on 3 gifts that are getting rather dusty. I’m in the same boat as a lot of people here, but Anet decided we weren’t worthy of their time for the features patch.
Thank god im playing necro and all the legendaries are ugly.
That said, for the amount of events/dungeons/wvw i’ve done nothing of real value drops ever..
the occasional exo with a reasonable rune.. but that’s it.
so i decided to simply not bother with any of these skins and stuff and ask for someone to contact the #$%#$
% #$
#$#%%
#
now i only have to ask and i get gold.
I dropped both precursors after like 10 tries in the mystic forge. It’s all RnG.
It’d be nice if they made precursors craftable or earnable through more difficult content, but that isn’t going to happen any time soon.
kitten you Aidenwolf.5964 i was going to create a topic with the same headline…
now what am I suppose to do?
Oh well I guess i will share my pain in here…. I know that A-net will not read it anyway so..
I was stopping by to the forum on my way to a dark room where I can cry, because once again ppl around me get a precursor drops from a normal ugly and easy to kill mob, while I get lockpicks… The other day a guy from the guild with 1000AP throw 4 random rare items in the forge and how has 700 gold in his bank…. And here I am with 10k AP, throwing 100 rares a week on avarege getting – more rares for the new week wash-up…
My friend, playes twice as much as me, same result,… and then there is another guy from the guild who has already 5 precursors… just like that… What is the legendary of that? I do all there is inside the game and get nothing, someone just drops some junk into MF aaaaand he is rich as kitten…
and Yeah I dont care about the plans You have to make precursors craftable… I am not going to waste my time for that while ppl get them by doing nothing.. not cool A-net ppl no cool at all…
ps.s Going off crying for the next couple of hours.. I know u dont care anyway..

Increasing the supply/ ease-up the way precursors are obtained will make the legendary weapon you are looking to craft cost even more than now…. cmud.5689 the point of topics like that is not that we want a-net to give all a free precursor u know…

Your choice if you want one lol.
It would take me 2/3 hours a day for 2/3 months (depending on the precursor) to farm enough gold doing just dungeons assuming I didn’t spend my gold.
Seriously people the forge is a crap shoot. RNG is RNG. The forge can make or break you in a matter of seconds.
cmud.5689 the point of topics like that is not that we want a-net to give all a free precursor u know…
But that is exactly what the OP means and complains about…. “I play for x hours per day, I deserve a pre drop”" Free or not, he expressed that he does not like the odds of getting one / methods of obtaining it.
I agree that this system is terrible, it feels downright unworthy of GW. It’s not connected to any effort at all, nor is it rewarding in any way. This is why I have decided to wait until they make precursors craftable, as they have announced, even if that takes a long time for them to implement. Meanwhile I’m just going to enjoy the rest of the game. (I’m also waiting for new legendaries, I’d hate to make Bolt only to see a cooler set of legendaries come out the day after xD)
Edit: It’s not about “getting” one just for playing long enough for me either, I’d just rather see a system where you can effectively work towards the precursor. I think that the point of “I have played x hours” is that the drop rate is just plain ridiculous, not that anyone is entitled to getting one at a certain hour mark (that could just be achieved by afking all day long, that’s not effort either).
(edited by Linnea.5146)
If we can do a “precursor quest” here and there, bang, got a precursor, what is so different to free precursor? For example, someone suggested AP chest, its a matter of time, so everyone can get a precursor, and everyone go craft their legendary.
So what about we give that “precursor quest” a little RNG, 99% players can get a precursor…. who can guarantee YOU are not the 1% player who can’t get one? As for now, legendary is not as rare as 1 year ago. The chance you saw a legendary is higher than any same weapon in exotic tier.
The only solution is to create more legendary tier weapon, more skins and more method to obtain the associated precursor. It could be WvW based, heavy crafting based, dungeon based, living based….
If we can do a “precursor quest” here and there, bang, got a precursor, what is so different to free precursor?
Because presumably it would be so hard that not everyone could get it, and only those with exceptionally high-grade teamwork and skill could achieve such a task.

GW2 caters to casuals mostly, they’re not going to introduce super hard content for hardcore players.
I can’t prove it but I believe there is an account RNG conspiracy. {:-þ -LOL
Conspiracy? no. But there is a problem somewhere- I know of people who’ve gotten several prec’s in only a couple hundred forgings, and others who get none in over a thousand- I myself have gotten exactly one, somewhere between 2-3 hundred
I’m inclined to think A-Net kittened up somewhere in the rng code, and used account id as one of the seeds for the generator- that would explain why some accounts seem blessed or cursed with forge luck.

Funny, because I thought that’s what the three-headed wurm I was doing twice a week was.

Ehh, it just requires a ridiculous amount of people and organisation. On a personal difficulty level it’s not on the same level as most raids in other games.

Because presumably it would be so hard that not everyone could get it, and only those with exceptionally high-grade teamwork and skill could achieve such a task.
Because presumably no matter causal player or hardcore should be equally fair chance to obtain a precursor. RNG is RNG, someone may got lucky and someone may not. So deal with it. On the other hand, i prefer more legendary set for different mode of GW, by not ruining the current precursor and legendary, adding new way new method on these new legendary, and create a better precursor obtain system will do.
For example, a mystic forge recipe on the new precursor: succeed with a desired precurser and when it failed it could drop a certain shard, when you slowly collect that shard to some amount, you can go to an npc and exchange that precursor… etc
I’ve been playing for 6 months. In that frame of time, I’ve gotten 3 precursors. 2 of which dropped within 2 months of each other.
The Energizer, The Hunter, Leaf Of Kudzu
However, I’ve also spent a ton in the gem store. Like.. A looot, way more than I care to say publically. So, it may be RND… It also may be that if you spend a lot in TP your chances will increase significantly. My Magic Find is only 140% and I get a non-stop flow of rare and exotic drops, not in a guild with magic find buffs or anything.
5.7 K hours since day minus three. Not done beta though, but still no Precursor. I ended up buying instead, less stress.
Because presumably no matter causal player or hardcore should be equally fair chance to obtain a precursor.
You’re right, casual and hardcore is irrelevant. You don’t have to be a hardcore player to be incredibly skilled at the game. The only thing the task would require is incredible skill from your group, and a sustained amount of it. Honestly, I don’t even think one task is sufficient; it should be many, different, varied tasks, and they should each form a component of your precursor.

U do remember what devs said about what a Legendary should mean… now consider what it means atm… means either you are super lucky or super farming… nothing special about it… that is the problem, and crafting them will not fix anything since the kittens runs about year and half and ppl that actualy Experience the game generay get nothing. The mere fact that they did not make those precursors bound is a hint for all the grind laid as a fondation to all this… and ppl will complain because A-net states one intend, ends up with the opposide result… Crafting ascended gear is more legendary and requires more actual doing then the legendary farming atm…
But that is exactly what the OP means and complains about….
You seem to be arguing an economic rationale for why it happens the way it does?
He’s talking about meaningful progression, taking meaningful steps towards acquisition, that can be difficult to acquire.
If the number crunchers can’t set up a system that incorporates that without blowing out the market then that’s their fault.
Why create a market for something that has nothing to do with playing the game? Where is the reward for being good at WvW or PvP for example?
There’s nothing legendary about RNG/gold grinding.
There is nothing special in current state of crafting legendary weapons. Simple grind & buy, mean nothing. Legendary weapon should be crafted from acc bound materials which you can find on all dungeons (1 piece – 1 path) + jumping puzzles etc. so if You have legendary weapon this mean You worked hard for it and You know game content, you was “good” enough for obtain this.
I think game should have 2 paths to get legendaries one for PvE players and one for PvP players, and yes it should take huge amount of time to get this, casual and hardcore players could make legendary but both groups should work kitten that.
Because presumably no matter causal player or hardcore should be equally fair chance to obtain a precursor.

There you go, it shouldn’t be hardcore content that lock causal out, but more ways to obtain precursor, yes. But it got to be new precursor not the current ones, as it is extremely unfair for someone thrown thousands gold and get theirs precursor abd suddenly there is a safer way.
The current precursor loot is a matter of luck or hardwork, it allow causal to obtain by Loot, hardworker by TP, gambler by forge. I don’t see a need to revisit it.
You get lucky every now and then… http://youtu.be/NftmxoN2IfU
Anyways, yep, they’re a pain to get. I flushed 600 rare greatswords down the toilet the other day only to get skunked.
Then again with the number of legendaries you see now-a-days they can’t be that hard to get. I’m more proud of my duel King Toad SAB daggers on my thief and my Imobulus on my mesmer than I am of my Incinerator.
The Imobulus is a hell of a lot more rare and the daggers were a kitten to get therefore also very rare.
EDIT: NVM, just got Dawn. Literally went and bought more rare great swords after typing this and got Dawn.

GW2 caters to casuals mostly, they’re not going to introduce super hard content for hardcore players.
Which would then be subject to some kind of dungeon meta and voila, lotsa legendaries on display for kitten gratification.
My luck sucks too, been in the game since day 1 of early access and my best drop ever was a single exotic and some valuable dyes, so be it, I’m not going to lose any sleep over it.

LOL well if you’d have created the topic first, I would’ve posted on yours.

Spoken like someone who gets drops.
I gave up on getting a precursor from the forge (never mind drop) and bought mine.
(Naturally, the day after I finished my legendary, I got The Hunter from the toilet…)
