[Suggestion] Open PvP
They won’t add player killing to the open world because that directly conflicts with their vision of PvE being fully cooperative (and not combative).
No, I would not enjoy Open World PvP. Sorry.
Tnx for the answer.
But in this way is too easy, was for make this game a little more spicy.
Anyway i respect your way to think.
It worked so well in UO that they had to split the world into open pvp (Felicuca) and not (Trammel)…

Really? When i played to ultima online there wasn’t this split.
Yeah sure, just imagine 10 or so thieves camping the mystic toilet, sorry ,forge, and killing and taking all the legendaries , ah those broken hearts, broken dream and broken keyboards. Not to mention you’ll get something like “The cult of tequilla” group of players trying to defend Teq , ( suddenly that spoon is worth so much more ) . I do agree that pvp needs more modes , but open world pvp is a no-no for me, it would create more, many more problems that it would solve.
They split it because the farmers would get kittened when people like me would kill them…take their gold and equipment…then put their $1 million gold mount on a boat and hold it for ransom.
I see this idea pretty often, and it’s just not a good idea. I think the reason at least half the players play this game is because the spirit of it is cooperative. I help you, you help me and we both win. Removing that would completely gut what those people like about it. As far as I’m aware, there are plenty of existing games where you can just gank people whenever you like.
It is a good idea but by duels.
Player 1 send a duel request.
Player 2 choose to accept the request
If one of the players is annoying just block it.
If you don’t want to duel, in the setting option check the NO DUEL option to avoid any invitation.
I agree, there is no spice in this gamer anymore, no real ending but kitten skins.
This may help game to came back.
if open PK comes to GW2 in any form I’ll uninstall and never look back.
All open PK does is turn game communities in to hostile environments
i suppose it might be viable if they had a “flag for pvp” option. like in pwi for instance what was cool is you gained infamy, the more infamy you gained and stayed in pvp flag the more blood red your name got. if you didnt want to particpate you didnt flag for pvp. made for some interesting play, had people grouping out to go get those high infamy players and stuff.
GW2 is simply not an open pvp game. However, I think the LW could be a good pretext to shake things up a bit. For example, what if the humans and the norns were suddenly at war against the asuras, the chars and the sylvaris? It’s a bit of a stretch lore-wise, but they could have a region (ascalon for example) become open pvp for, say, two weeks. This would be fun, and if some don’t like it because it makes their world completion harder, they just have to wait two weeks! Every vista would become a new version of the Obsidian Sanctum. Yay!

So? They could just do a PvP server with different ruleset, and you wouldn’t have to play there.
Somewhat related to what the OP is getting at, could ANet actually ‘clone’ zones, make them overflow just like normal zones do, and have open world PvP on them?
It would be neat to add PvP clones of PvE zones to a rotation instead of always getting EotM or OS. Would add a little more variety to an otherwise stale gameplay format.
Plus they could maybe find some way to include the mega server technology to a PvP map so guilds could set up GvGs beyond just their current 3 servers.
One single zone that is open PvP would be great. Like WvW but nobody is on your team. It would be basically a totally different game mode.
Problem is, we don’t have enough population to support the current game mode, let alone split the population into even more segments.

Really good idea.
I would like somethings like this.
I could live with consensual open world PvP. Like flag yourself and be instantly ported to a megaserver instance with FFA PvP on.

- Lets Discuss: Factions
[+] Arguments in favour:
- That other game has it; we’ve seen it done there and enjoyed it.
- We want competition. We can’t live without competition in games, a game without competition is boring and is not worth staying in.
- We invested time/money in our gear, so we want our gear to matter. We do not like equalized stats in sPvP and we do not like zergs in WvW.
- Separate PvP servers with PvE maps can be added to give PvP/PvE-focused people a choice.
- Factions add a lot to both lore and gameplay.
[-] Arguments against:
- GW2 is not that other game. GW2 is a cooperative game, not a competitive game: you don’t compete over loot, nodes and such. For competition, we have two options: sPvP and WvW. If current PvP/WvW game modes are not enough, you can always suggest new ones, but in the boundaries of competitive areas.
- Open world PvP is detrimental. Different kinds of players exist: those who prefer fair and healthy competition, and those who prefer fierce and unhealthy competition. The first are usually peaceful non-hardcore teenagers and casual grown-up players (which turn out to be the target audience for which GW2 was actually designed in the first place, with all the timidness of content, failproofness and cooperativeness in mind), and the latter are usually aggressive teenagers who are using online games as a sublimation for unsatisfied offline desires of being “better” than others, while not being constrained by offline moral and law limits. This usually leads to offensive behaviour, which can already be seen in both PvP and WvW (with as far as death threat whispers); such things are not tolerated in GW2. Open world PvP attracts the second type of players, and since many mature players already live a moderately risky life, they see their games as a comfort zone to rest in, and not a war zone similar to life, and want GW2 to stay as is.
- In GW2, not gear, but skill is what matters – even if it is the skill of finding the best team composition or the skill of using Skyhammer’s features in the cheesiest possible way. You cannot really buy ultimate superiority for money in this game. The most you can do is buy gems, convert to gold, get full ascended with infusions, eat the most expensive food, buy all gemstore buffs and go roaming in WvW, hoping that the slight boost in stats will outweigh the skill of your opponent.
- Even on a separate server, you cannot simply turn a PvE map into a PvP map: it was not designed with it in mind. Furthermore, it will thin down and fracture the community, which contradicts with the Megaservers idea.
- Factions are too hard to implement at this point of the game’s life when the basics have already been put in place. Factions are too hard to add with the current lore in mind.
[=] Current state of affairs:
- A lot of people feel that GW2 is a casual friendly cooperative game which was not designed to have open world PvP, and they want it to remain that way. For competition, sPvP and WvW modes were included in the game. New PvP/WvW game modes, including GvG, with separate large maps, are discussed as valid options.

Anything is possible in the future, but I would be sure to not hold my breath waiting.
