I specifically mention thieves because
I don’t believe that mesmer stealth pose any major problem
, same thing cannot be said for thieves.
My main issue is
Initiative
and here I want to stretch myself by saying that the mechanic itself is not evil, the core problem is
the ability of thieves to easily refill the initiative bar
, this greatly reduce the amount of counterplay , the margin of error is increased tenfold respect to any other profession
this is why professions are being forced into specific builds by the thief class
, while their margin of error increase..yours decrease, therefore you’re forced to increase your own margin of error by using other OP elements in the game.
With all this said and done, I’m not here asking to nerf thief to oblivion, neither I’m asking to remove the initiative mechanic.
Simply I think that
thieves don’t get punished enough for a failed attack, this way they can reset the fight indefinitely
; the initiative mechanic already remove that “CD strategy counterplay” which is common for most MMO and all other professions in this game.
Suggestion:
So these are my proposals:
1) 3s reveal on block
2) 1s reveal on missed attack ( dodge/blind etc etc)
3) Chill reduce Initiative regeneration

Why:
First of all, there is more then one build that gaurantees win on thief.
As an experiment myself and 4 friends all qued up in spvp kitten d/d thiefs. We roamed the map in groups of 2 with 1 guy holding home and literally 1sec comboed the enemiy team. Players were disconnecting because what we were doing was unstoppable, and simply overpowered.
Sure at the moment you dont see thief picked up in every battle, but give it a month and people will start noticing how strongly buffed the class has become in comparison to others, over the last few patches.
With these changes made, we have a more balanced meta with thiefs becoming a more challenging class to play, instead of the insta-win they are at the moment.
Suggestion:
The first thing that must be done if we wish to have a good game, is to cut all weapon evades from the thief class, as they currently have enough evades through dodge rolls and utilities, as well as vigor.
The second step to making a more balanced thief, is to give each class that isn’t a thief a new ability. This ability will counter stealth for a few seconds. Lets say the thief is DP and spamming powder/heart seeker or DD with CnD. Well stealth lasts up to 5 – 10 sec, therefore we make a skill that reveals invisible units for 4 seconds on a 20 second cooldown. This skill will be called eye seeker and a hard counter to perm stealth builds. Every class but thief will have this as an optional utility.
The last step to rid the game of this Overpowerd character and to balance the class, would be to scale attack speed according to enemy armour. The thief currently puts out to much damage to fast, with a quick attack speed and 100% crits with hidden killer. If an enemy has high armour, the thief will then be dealt a frost effect after hitting from stealth, this effect would reduce attack speed per strike. The effect will stack up to 4 times, reducing attack speed by 25% each stack.

in HoT guardians do not have any daze so its not right to steal something that guardians do not have. You can’t steal money from someone who don’t even have it.
Suggestion:

Shadowstepping. Stealth not removed when blocked or evaded, basilisk venom piercing stability, phletora of instant casts including a heal skill that breaks movement inpairment and has massive evade, initiative unaffected by chilling or interrupt induced skill cooldown.
So where exactly is the room for “skilled counter gameplay” against a thief who knows his stuff in pvp? Cause so far all i see is the “hold the point and survive for as long as possible”.

What: Last Refuge + Hard to Catch combo
Why:
The Thief should not be able to shadowstep, blind and stealth at the same time when dazed at 25% HP. I was just going to finish the Thief off, then poof, he’s nowhere to be found. Since the stealth lasted for 3s and the Dazed only lasted for 1s, he was able to run away due to the Swiftness buff from Hard to Catch.

Trait is too good to be around, insta teleport and stunbreak what is this anet? Remove the port, double the internal cooldown and give thief revealed when this trait procs to make it at least not overpowered anymore as any thief build atm uses it

Why:
The problem is a Master thief vs a Master [insert any class here] is going to be advantage to the thief, with the exception of a Master Guardian.
Of all the classes, a Master level Thief holds the advantage.
Only a Master level Guardian can proudly say that they have the edge over a Master level thief.
Thieves are OP to every other class except Guardian.
All classes under the control of superb Master level players, Thief comes out on top in every encounter except vs Guardians.

Please, can someone tell me why devs decided to nerf Consume Condition hard and to buff Withdraw, which is obviously the strongest heal IG by far ?
It’s such a ridiculous idea, Consume Condi was balanced enough (due to a pretty long casting time). Withdraw is just unblockable 15s CD heal.

Why:
The problem is that withdraw is a heal with zero counterplay. Literally the only way to interrupt it would be to put a static field/line of warding/ring of warding/ unsteady ground behind the thief, and hope they’re dumb enough to withdraw into it. Even then, I think the heal applies instantly, so they’d just not roll back the full distance.
Suggesstion:
It needs a real cast time, not a ’I’m evading, just thought I’d let you know how long I’m evading for’ cast time.

The dps a thief puts out after patch is too much. I can’t even touch them in Spvp without getting killed in 2 seconds. The worst part is that im a gaurdian, yet they just proc my block and then daze + backstab me to death.
Thiefs are unkillable… they just hit you and reset. Other classes have had enough, Anet needs to do something about this class.

It was across 4 hits but they were all at once for the most part, the biggest being 9090. He jumped on me and I was down, period, gone. I have WvW’d enough to be in the silver ranks, I have NEVER died this fast, ever. This patch is broken, fix it.

Posted the 44 posts (consisting of multiple requests, and it was actually a bit less after I’ve seeded out crap that the script picked up that weren’t requests but quotes of requests… if that makes sense).
I’ve been reading the whole thread while doing it, touching up what the script has kittened up in copying. Yeah, I love ya guys, you guys are a fun bunch :P
What ever happened to peow peow and EremiteAngel, they made quite a few request…
Anyways, like I’ve said before, The script didn’t pick up some post requests…. So I will be working on recovering those that have slipped through… Though, it may take days, since the coming days are a bit busy for me :/ I will still be looming over these forums
Oh and, going to update my signature to point to this thread, and this thread (the first post) points to the old thread… so nothing will be lost
Since eventually I will perfect the script, I can also provide info on how many requests were made, perhaps on a time-line and such. I was also thinking of a word cloud

The Dhuumfire thread
Let’s add a new nerf wish here.
What: Vault (Staff 5)
Why: For a cheap cost 5 init, this skill can crit for 5k-6k in addition to the range and evade time frames. It makes the Thief harder to deal with especially when also traited with either Unhidered or Bound GMs. Watching a Thief cycle Vault-Bound-Vault-Bound-ad nauseum is really frustrating because each evades attacks which triggers a lot of on evade passives;
- Driven Fortitude (heal)
- Escapist’s Absolution (cleanse)
- Feline Grace (vigor)
- Upper Hand (init)
It’s just ridiculously OP. And it’s even more annoying when the Thief takes stealth skills because they can initiate with Hook Strike for knockdown and before I can get up they’ve already tea bagged me a couple of times with Vault.
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.

Why: I’ve always known that this skill will be a problem. First of all, Thief should not have block since they don’t carry a shield or have any divine powers like the Guardian. Second, this skill has a short cooldown for a knockdown skill. Lastly, it’s a stunbreak. I understand that the effects from this skill are something that Thief needs, but putting them into one skill is not very smart.
Suggestion: Remove the block from BD, instead make it a skill that breaks stun and causes AoE knockdown. Then increase the cooldown to 30s. This is a typical effect when a bandit is surrounded and kitten their pants.

Please nerf thief evades/endurance regen. The amount of dodging they have (between their actual dodges, endurance regen and weapon skill dodges) is just absolutely ridiculous.
Please nerf d/p weapon set by removing the spammable daze from the offhand pistol and reducing the smoke field on the offhand pistol to like 1 sec. The constant headshotting and stealth spamming is too powerful. The dazes from DH traps and from scrapper gyros were removed for a reason…it’s time to remove them from thief’s d/p as well.

Delete All weapons , Thief can kill any class just by being in 4000units of them. Giving Thief weapons is an unfair advantage. Source: PvP forums.
Also make moving use up Initiative, Thief being able to take a step is an exploit.

Why: Thieves should be punished for being hit by taking damage. It’s already bad enough that they perma evade everything you throw at them just by playing normally, but now if you manage to hit them a little they can do it on autopilot, for two whole seconds.

I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
Played it back then doing Scavenging using Instant Reflexes near mount maelstrom tried to lure them Trolls for physical damage then step into the lava get burnt while condi ticks overtime but physical negate/validate the trait. working as intended i assume.
Between a master and apprentice, i would love to see the differences.
