Guild Wars 2 – The Complete Season 1 – The Movie
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joLmVI5URak

Fan recap of season 1 can be found here, which gives details on all the events and new characters introduced. Be warned, it’s over 3 hours long. I’ve watched some of it and would say it’s worthwhile for the character introductions as they show up in season 2 and HoT and your character is familiar with who they are.

As for experiencing season 2, it’s possible to join someone else’s story instance. You get no rewards, but you get to play through each instance, hear the story, fight the bosses etc. If you don’t know anyone with season 2, feel free to send me an in game mail or something and I’d be happy to find time some weekend to play through the season with you. I should be online often in the lead up to the expac.

Does anyone like the mastery system?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aer.3970

Aer.3970

Yes, I love the mastery system!

Earning the experience is a great way to continue leveling without the power creep and new gear that levels above 80 would require. I understand your frustration with masteries requiring points to unlock, but while every point is attached to an achievement, some of those achievements are as mundane as ‘find and open this hidden chest’ or ‘channel this place of power’.

At the release of HoT, I did wish that less points were gained from adventures. I friggin’ hate timed content, and that’s all adventures are. Racing against the clock. Since then though, a lot of points have been available from LS3 maps, and they even added some places of power to core Tyria.

Don’t be discouraged. I have no doubts that there will be enough flat-out easy mastery points in PoF that you will have no difficulty leveling up your raptor skills, and certainly more when LS4 comes around a couple of months later.

I do hope there’s no more mastery lines locked behind killing a raid boss though. I need a long break from them and I’d like to be able to keep getting spirit shards.

It’s an underground lake with no real way to rationalize how they got there in the first place. Very few sharks can live in freshwater and even then, they’re typically in freshwater connected to oceans such as rivers or an adjacent lake.

There’s a Veteran shark in the pool at the bottom of the Behem Gauntlet cave. It’s been there for 4 years now, so clearly the water is not a problem. I assume it uses players who aren’t good with jumping puzzles as a food source.

Zhaitan – World Boss Event

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aer.3970

If they did build this meta where a map’s players are shooting Zhaitan from airships, I’d want them to redesign the final personal story mission so that instead of being on an airship you’re ascending the inside of that tower thing Zhaitan is clinging to.

The instance fight would be similar to the attack on the pale tree where a dragon is trying to stick his head into the room and eat you, and you’re shooting him in the face.

In the meta maps from the airships, you couldn’t see inside the tower but you can see Zhaitan going after something in the hole by his head. It would be that same experience of two sides of the same fight you get with MoM, I thought they did that really well.

Will we ever get an other way to receive sinister jewelery without doing the archievements?
for a while i’m looking around for help to get the archievements but yeah i totally gave up now. I went to do it with a few people a few times but each time when they got it and it’s my turn they suddenly dont want to help anymore. Also they are out for a while now so shouldnt we be able to craft them or buy them?

I have fond memories of when I finally got all these. If you’re on NA then send me a message in game sometime and I’ll see if I can help. May have to be on a weekend.

I’m sure it will be easier now that elite specs are a thing.

Can we have dark nights? Please?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aer.3970

Lighting is something that is entirely client-based, I’m sure it could easily be given to those who want it and left alone for those who don’t via an option in the menu.

I use a reshade that makes the game darker, but it’s limited. It makes the screen a bit darker overall, but accurate darkness needs brightness surrounding you so you can see where you’re going, then a huge drop off in visibility the further away from a light source something is, somewhat like the visibility you get in Dry Top during a sandstorm.

I find equipping a torch or light-giving object like the Balth back helps seeing objects at your feet, but I kind of like to be able to customise my backpiece and not everyone wants to have a torch equipped as a weapon.

I think there should be a light source utility infusion. Available for laurels just like the bonus xp/gold infusions and you can stick it in your neck piece to illuminate the terrain around you. Client-side only, like all the light sources already in game, so it wouldn’t change anything on the networking side.

It would be great to get an official implementation of this.

What if HoT maps weren't as difficult?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Aer.3970

Honestly, there’s only two things I wish they’d change in the HoT maps:

1) getting rid of the swarms. They don’t bug me too much on my Ranger, but they freaking wreck my Ele that I’m still learning to play after power leveling. I just want to explore the world, not get face tanked by 15 pocket raptors. ESPECIALLY in VB, where waypoints are always contested and traveling across map is a joke.

So, you power levelled a class, didn’t learn how to play it fully, went into a HoT zone, and are complaining you’re not doing so well on that class……

……..You don’t say? :/

Yeah, an ele will go down easier to pocket raptors, but they also have a ton of PBAoE skills which destroy raptors in turn. Hell, there is trait which drops a Lava Font when you down, which would kill half the raptors and rally you even if they took you by surprise.

But really, I mean really, don’t come to HoT if you haven’t learned how to play your class, or if your gear is not up to scratch. If they have to balance the zones for people doing that, then the rest of us who do know how to use our skills effectively have no reason to ever do so.

This is an end game zone. Treat it as such.

I find reducing as much damage from the smokescales teleport attack then killing it tends to stop it from doing a second teleport attack. Those things are made of paper.

I also have no issue with shadowleapers, unless they surprise me or come at me in a group, and that just means I wasn’t paying attention. Get the upper hand early and people tend to win.

That said, I don’t recall fighting them on my DD. I may take a trip down to TD tonight just to see how I fare.

What if HoT maps weren't as difficult?

Aer.3970

Here’s the thing- everyone who has HoT paid for it. That means that people who find it too overtuned to play have literally nothing. And you can complain about dungeons and fractals being old and stale, but so is base game Tyria if you’ve been playing the game for three years.

Yeah, I paid for HoT too, so I guess those arguments cancel each other out, and if you claim that I can play face-roll content just fine, I’ll tell you to git gud, so let’s just not even go there.

I’d happily trade 3 of the 4 (75%) of the HoT maps for 5 or 6 (25%) of the core Tyria maps. You’re doing pretty kitten good in the quantity department, you know.

What if HoT maps weren't as difficult?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Aer.3970

People who can solo a legendary mob with their monitor covered in a sheet aren’t being kept from doing content that they paid for, they just lose out on a challenge that can be relegated to places that aren’t mandatory to event/player progression.

Like I get people want their difficult content, but when it comes to open world, it should be 100% optional and not impede other players and their own personal progression.

I might agree with you if there was substantial engaging content elsewhere, but there’s just not. The hanful of dungeons are years old, and completely unsupported. Fractals are almost as old, just as stale, and even fewer to choose from. Raids are the only new, interesting content, and they’re only available when you can arrange a time with 9 other people.

It’s just neither reasonable nor considerate to tell everyone who wants non-faceroll content to “go away and play in the instanced closet” like a second class citizen.

The amount of easy content in GW2 utterly dwarfs the amount of content that requires a degree of caution.

Complaint GEM store items for ingame currency

Also, rather than focusing on your own perceived loss (perceived, because let’s face it you’ve lost nothing), why not take the optimistic route and imagine what gem store items you don’t already own might make their way to an in-game acquisition?

Probably none, though, because of all the internet drama queens raging that other people might get to enjoy the same toy they do, years later at a reduced cost.

Primordus sword held upside down

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aer.3970

I disagree. To me the GW1 sword looks awkward as heck. Like, you’d swing it at someone and the spikes would stick in them, like a morning star. The gw2 version looks like it would actually cut and slice, and the blade going forward is like a kukri machete.

I have no horse in this race, I’m not particularly enthusiastic about either one, but think of all the people who previewed the sword, liked it, and went through the effort to acquire it. How do you think they would feel about anet changing one of their weapon skins now?

Best way to obtain ascended materials?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aer.3970

I’m on stage 2 for Kudzu and it really is a drag (so was the stage 1 crafting, 20 spiritwood plus 25 elonian squares).

I just do the 3 daily fractal tiers, get about 10g from them, and spend that on elder wood logs, hard wood logs, etc. I should be done with it by next weekend, and it seems a more efficient use of my time as I also get a chance for an ascended item each day.

I think tier 3 of the pre collection is more of the scavenger hunt we seek.

Precursor Crafting too expensive

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aer.3970

Aer.3970

Hi,

I’m sure I’m not the only one when I say that crafting a precursor is expensive.
Let me give one example:
- You need 250 Crystalline Ingot
- Each of those need 1 Amalgamated Gemstone
- Each of those need 9 Beryl Orb (for example)
- Those cost right now 27s, you need 2250!
- Total costs for only the Orbs is around 585 gold!
You can also buy Amalgamated Gemstone, that’s around 750g right now.

That’s just 1 item for the precursor, not to forget the 15 Deldrimor Steel Ingots, 10 Elonian Leather Squares, 10 Spiritwood Planks etc etc…

So it’s cheaper to buy a complete legendary rather than to craft a precursor!
I just realized this now when I’m in the middle of crafting The Device… I’m not sure if I’m going to continue this…

Your example is a poor one. Crystalline Ingots are only needed for HoT precursors (Raven Staff etc), which cannot be bought or found, must be crafted and form an account bound legendary that cannot be sold on the TP.

So it’s not cheaper to buy such legendaries, as it is impossible.

That said, everyone above me made good points as well.

There was a ridiculous amount of people engaging in histrionics and making posts before the patch accusing Anet of unfairly making people rebuy all their skills.

White Feather Wings Backpack

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aer.3970

Aer.3970

Honestly I’d be pretty hesitant to request a refund. Every so often there is an aspect of a gem store item that is unpopular. The black gunk under the Noble Count Dress. The lack of necks on humans for the Balth outfit. If a bunch of people request refunds for the black wings, Anet won’t change it back, they’ll just get the message that they should never change gem store items in future, no matter how broken they are. Until they did this, I never thought they would, so I was incredibly surprised.

For the record, I bought the black wings and was disappointed by the fact they were so cardboard-ey. The new animation may not be perfect, but I like it a lot more and am happy as heck about it. I might actually put them back on my necro now. I’m sorry you all don’t feel the same way.

Inequality in ascended crafting.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aer.3970

Anet doesn’t control player pricing, so the difference in cost is down to we the players, not down to the actual crafting mechanics.

Jesus, no… Come on. The difference in cost is down to supply and demand. Anet controls the supply, ie. the drop rate, and the demand, ie. what is required in the crafting recipe.

If they reduced the time gated component to require 50 units of silk instead of 100 – like the other time gated T5 requirements, and if there were silk mining nodes around the game, like mithril and hard wood, then we would see a drop in price. Not suggesting that is what Anet should do, but that is what would happen if they did.

Sugesting that we control the price like some kind of hive mind, is frankly kind of naive.

Thank you for your responses, and I suppose we’ll just stay in other online games that allow this then. Oh well.

So people have explained that you can gear up at level 80, return to low level zones and 1- or 2-shot mobs, and that’s still not good enough for you?

I think you already had your mind made up when you started this thread.

Anyone miss the old GW?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aer.3970

Aer.3970

The original game came out around the same time as WoW, so although I bought it, I gravitated towards the latter to be with my friends. In the short time before that happened I was sadly never able to get my head around the mechanics of Prophecies.

I got the CE of Factions and Nightfall when my retailer of choice at the time had them for sale. I wanted to explore the world, which I thought was stunningly good, especially Factions. Hearing about the Jade Sea made me want to see it. Sadly the fact that I was basically playing alone and getting trounced by the large packs of mobs in GW1 kind of put me off and I never got far in either campaign.

When GW2 came out I picked up EotN for some HoM points and a friend has been taking me through Factions just so I can experience it (and I really want to get to 13 points). Sadly he doesn’t have Prophecies and doesn’t want to play through Nightfall. I still don’t really have any idea what I’m doing as the whole gearing system is a complete enigma to me. I pick up a staff and have no idea if it’s good or bad for my playstyle, or what to do with the miscellaneous clutter I’ve been acquiring (Salvage? Sell? Keep?). I’ve got some Heroes, but I have no idea how to gear or build them.

Not sure what I’ll do when I finish Factions. I really want to experience the lore and storyline behind Proph+Nightfall, but I suspect I’ll find myself overwhelmed again without my friend.

[Suggestions] Gemstore Items

The bunny ears have never been brought back a second time, yet they have the fuzzy animal hats and those masks in there permanently…

They’ve never really been in the gem store a first time, at least as an armour skin. The reason they’re so rare is that they were only ever available as an out of combat flavour item.

It would be very interesting to watch the gem exchange rate if they ever do go on sale as armour.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aer.3970

That’s the one. He definitely has a block, because he goes into a crouching stance with his shield up. If I hit it – knockdown. If I wait – knockback. It’s cooldown is about the same as the knockdown animation, so 1v1 it’s up all the time.

Obviously if I do that fight again, I’ll slot stability or range, but it seems wrong to expect me know this beforehand. This isn’t a dungeon boss. Having to flee and potentially fail an event just to respec my slots seems very poor mechanics. I was really hoping there would be some trick to the fight that I just couldn’t see, because being permanently flat on my face is not fun gameplay.

Recent LS fights have been absolutely excellent too. This felt out of place.

What am I missing?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aer.3970

Aer.3970

So I considered putting this in the living story section, but the event it pertains to isn’t technically part of the LS.

I was doing Plan of Attack on my guard where Rytlock sends you off to find pieces of a crown. The first one requires doing an event in SW Diessa Plateau where you help a charr set up a pair of giant glowing balls.

At the end of it, a vet ascalonian captain spawns, and this is the part that confuses me… The combat. The captain had a block or a knockback that he used all the time. I must have been doing something wrong, surely?

I was in no danger of dying, but the fight dragged on forever because I was always being thrown into the dirt. I literally had time to stand up, maybe swing if I was lucky, and then get knocked down again, over and over and over. If I dodged away, the captain ran at me and used another attack, which also had a knockback. I tried waiting until he stopped blocking and then attacking, but the same thing happened anyway.

I mean, I was in combat. I couldn’t pull out a ranged weapon or slot stability. The game wasn’t seriously expecting me to run away until I lost agro and then respec my bar, was it? I don’t get it. The designers can’t have intended the fight to be so stupid.

I ended up killing him slowly despite being tossed about by a ragdoll, but I can’t shake the feeling I did it wrong. I’m pretty sure he didn’t have any hints in his health bar text. This seems to happen a lot. Is it me? Is there something really obvious I’m just not seeing?

Or is the design of that fight really just that stupid?

Current Region/Server: Sea of Sorrows (NA)
Interested Activities or specific things you want help with: I am quite familiar with all 3 AC paths, but have barely touched the other dungeons. I’m hoping to find someone willing to take me through and explain the boss attacks, when to dodge and when certain abilities and especially the whys for all of this so I understand rather than just aping people who have figured it all out before me without knowing the reasons.
Active: Evenings and weekends Oceanic time
Additional Comments: If anyone needs help with anything ingame that doesn’t involve PvP or Fractals, I’m usually happy to help out. Especially if anyone wants company for map completion as I need to get that done on quite a few alts and would enjoy having someone to co-op with – it makes it go much faster just by having someone to chat to.

Also, jumping puzzles are like crack to me and I have an 80 mesmer, so if anyone wants a free port to any JP chest any time I’m free, happy to do so (although I’ve yet to conquer the aetherblade JP)
Do you want to be a member of the guild Legion of Honour Y/N: Yes, I have room for another guild, although I’m currently part of an Oceanic guild based on SoS that I do missions with, so I expect to spend a lot of time repping them.

And now you’re throwing a tantrum. You know very well s/he isn’t endorsing exploits, s/he is saying that we are questioning that it is an exploit as you claim.
