Actually Zudet, the commander thing came straight from Anet during another preview from an outside site. As for the other issues, I wouldn’t have made this post if I didn’t hear about these problems as often as I do. Plus it’s not like the resources needed for a first person view are that high. Heck, it’s already in the dev client. Same goes for FoV. Standard features like that are not hard to add if you know much about game development.
Their excuses come down to “we don’t like it, so we’re not going to add it because we think our playerbase is stupid.”
Now, I absolutely love GW2, and have come to respect Anet & their way of moving the game forward. At over 5k hours clocked in, I feel that GW2 is the best MMO on the market right now. That said, I speak as someone that is a co-GM of a guild totaling over 140+ members & routinely discusses these issues with my friends. Simply put, the Guildmag interview left me with the impression that Anet has failed in their understanding of what the community wants, & more importantly why. Here are the top issues that stuck out to me.
FoV & First Person View:
Now as I understand it, the reasoning for these two not being implemented has to do with a misinterpretation of the game’s art. Most of the people I’ve spoken to want both of these features because they appreciate the art & want to see more of it in a way that is comfortable for them. I have not heard a single person to date ask for a first person camera for combat, which was their reasoning for not adding it. Quite the opposite, every person I’ve spoken to wants it for screenshots.
The issue of FoV should be plain as day, but it’s not. Need we forget that the devs widened the initial FoV because it made people sick? The other reasoning behind not adding a FoV slider previously, is because it would give people an unfair advantage. But at the same time, 3 monitor setups that give an almost 180 degree FoV are perfectly fine. Siege meanwhile in WvW is not really affected because it requires a line of sight from the player standpoint.
Super Adventure Box:
I’ll just come right out & say it, selling an infinite continue coin for $10, then never having the concrete intention to let people to replay SAB is just plain wrong. One of the big topics that was brought up is the idea that Anet wants players to have less choices, & how that factors into bringing SAB back along with the above. Sorry, but I strongly disagree. If anything, the players want more. Even if it is a “game within a game”.
As for the issue of it “not fitting with the living story”, that is the biggest load of crock I’ve yet to hear from Anet, & I expect better. PvP doesn’t fit either, but it’s getting some overhauls. And it’s not like those covert charr backpacks sure fit well with the struggle against Mordremoth. Or perhaps they do, I’m undecided… So what would it hurt to leave it in the game as another option? As the first living world season proved, people want more to do at their own leisure, not less.

Do I really need to even speak about this? I think the community has it covered.
Precursor Crafting:
This is an issue that was brought up several months after the game’s release. We’re now nearing the 2-year mark. First it was delayed because it wasn’t done in time for the first feature pack, & now we’re back to “soon” with no timetable. Just like spring of last year. I can’t count the number of people I know that have either gone on hiatus or outright quit because the endgame of legendary weapons is nothing but a grind for gold to buy one weapon off the TP, or a gamble to flush all of your gold into the forge, possibly getting nothing to show for your efforts.
Mawdrey has shown that we can have items with a combination of time-gating, a bit of grind, and a cool story behind it to make the thing feel special. Entire expansions get released in the same time that precursors have gone nowhere.
Let me just close by saying that once again, I love this game. I enjoy the community and I respect a lot of the choices the devs have made thus far. But if wasn’t a co-GM & didn’t have so many friends here, I would have quit after reading that interview. Simply put, I don’t have faith in Anet’s ability to lead the game forward anymore.
Why not increase the amount of Badges of Honor needed to buy a tag for WvW instead & keep the 300g cost for PvE? Between the costs of food buffs, keeps, etc, WvW’ers have a hard enough time making gold. All this means is that the people with already deep pockets will get new tags, not people with experience.
This is just another one of the bone headed decisions that’s beep chipping away at WvW. As if fracturing the server communities which support WvW with Megaserver, & adding in a snowballing mechanic in the form of Bloodlust weren’t enough.
Definitely some good suggestions here. I would love to see a lot of these ideas come to fruition.
Really? This is not that hard at all if you actually practice it. Considering that majority of the game’s content is easy, harder JPs & diving goggles like these are a fresh change of pace.
I’ve been brainstorming over the past several weeks about several ideas that Arenanet could implement to really improve the quality of life for GW2. Realism, immersion, and overall fun could be boosted far & above current levels by adding one simple item to the game.
That item my friends, is bacon. Think about it, a large number of today’s AAA titles have bacon in some way, shape, or form. Just look at the success of the Cooking Mama franchise for example. I propose then, that the brilliant minds at Anet add our favorite delicacy.
How would this be handled you ask? Killing boars in the game would result in the rare drop of a new item called [Pork Loin]. My concept could even fit into the living story reward system by providing a home instance butcher to harvest a few [Pork Loins] from once per day. These could then be refined using ascended cooking & a few ingredients to create [Bacon]. Once you have the base [Bacon] item, you could consume it for a 1 hour buff of -50% chill duration (due to all the fat) & +100 power (Because hey, we all feel powerful after dining on bacon.)
If you do not eat it however, it could further be used to create a multitude of other porky pallet pleasers. [Chocolate Bacon], [Hickory Smoked Bacon], [Bacon Salt], the possibilities are endless. Furthermore, it could be used in a stack to create the [Gift of Bacon] which would be used in the new legendary weapon, [Caladhog]; it’s precursor being [Rack of Ribs].
In closing, I feel as though enough has been said, & that I should delegate the rest of this discussion to the community at large. Please, feel free to add any comments or criticisms.
Well considering all the problems that have been encountered getting the proper chests out to people, I don’t really see a problem with delaying the rewards. Might as well fix the issues & be fair to all players. After all, the rewards will still be there.
TL;DR: Kitten happens, nothing is perfect.
Grats to all of the winners! Here’s to the next awesome contest.
Then Tessa, slippery thief extraordinaire at CM.
Might I ask what face you used for that character?
Sorry for the delay, but this is the face I used for Tessa.

Top row, all the way on the right.
Here’s Aoife, my beloved main & ele in CoF.

Finally, Grania. Loot-Stick™ Guardian sailing on HotW.
Overall I am really happy to see this change coming to GW2. Not being able to do group events because some zones are empty is a real bummer sometimes. The only aspect of it that concerns me however is regarding RP servers like TC, which I am on. But I think the thread for that sums up my thoughts pretty well.
Well the most I’ve ever broken was three full sets worth of gear during a massive 3 way zerg fight earlier tonight in Obsidian Sanctum. The Tournament is off to a great start!
Maybe a way to conserve the current customization along with implementing the new system would be to only allow town clothes to be transmuted with other town clothes?
For example: I have a hoodie, the riding pants, and a light armor top & bottom. I can combine the hoodie with the riding pants, but neither one with the light armor top & bottoms. This could resolve any conflicts between armor & town clothes, plus allow people to maintain their looks.
I also don’t get most of the uproar here myself. I have 1 Incinerator and I could pretty much finish the second one right now if I chose to. I absolutely love the idea that I’ll be able to use the skin on any of my characters, and I do not think anyone should be punished (such as the skin not having footfalls or an aura) just because a few people don’t like it. For everyone that has dual legendaries, you’ll still have the best stats & stat swapping on both.
If the reaction to the town clothes debacle has taught us anything, it’s that the community wants more choices & options, not less.
This change is horrible if you ask me. Considering there was a “clearance sale” on many items like the Ornate Ruched Shirt & the Khaki Cargo Pants just a few months back, this feels like a major bait & switch. I’m normally not one to ask for refunds, but I definitely will in this case.
The whole thing feels like a major slap in the face to the RP community and those that have supported the game. Why couldn’t these items be skins too? If the issue is clipping, then that’s just grasping at straws on Anet’s part. Asura & Charr have major clipping issues with all sorts of gem shop & base game content. If t’s a technical issue, then why not just come out & say it?
While a lot of the features unveiled so far have been great, I’ve lost a lot of confidence here in Anet. Why pay for something in the gem shop when the devs will just arbitrarily remove it’s functionality a few months down the line?
Ah, alright. Well thanks for the clarification!
So, I was going over the wardrobe system & a question just popped into my head. While I like a lot of the new changes, I have to wonder if we’ll be able to retain the appearance of a secondary armor set?
For example, my Zerker set is Tier 3, and my PTV set is SE armor. If I have my appearance in the wardrobe set to Tier 3, would I be able to equip my PTV set and have the SE armor’s appearance? Or would I need to burn Transmutation Charges to not be stuck with one look?
Yeah, for the price this item should be permanent. Complete rip off in my opinion. Why craft this when you can salvage ectos for T6 dust & shove all the maintenance oil in your guild bank?
I personally prefer the staff video. Besides, more staff eles need to represent!
Agreed with those not in favor. SPvP is in a bad enough state as it is, & the last thing I want is a forced grind just to be competitive. New players will be even more overwhelmed if they’re denied potentially meta builds because they didn’t grind for them, much less all the people that make lvl 2 characters specifically for PvP.
While the rest of the patch is awesome so far, this… is not. Reskinning armor already in game then expecting us to pay $10 for each set? Sorry, but there’s no way in Grenth’s domain I will pay for that. It’s just plain low.
Whoever approved this clearly has no regard for the consumer, much less providing any semblance of value.
I ran the Molten Facility dungeon to death too, and I have my jetpack to show for it. Actually, no. I ended up buying it off the TP toward the end of F&F because Lady Luck was clearly not smiling on me.
Personally, I feel as though equating getting lucky to “earning” something is an excuse for lacking a properly developed reward structure. I loved Molten Facility, but I’m not going to believe for a moment that winning the lottery is synonymous with effort & skill.
As a proud owner of the jetpack, I would love to see others finally have the chance to acquire it & the monocle. That, plus azurite orbs.
Agreed with the OP, I absolutely loved this trailer. Definitely one of my favorite GW2 cinematics so far.
I gotta admit, this foreshadowing is awesome! When I think of the Living Story concept, this is the kind of thing I want to see. The best part is that none of this was there in the patch notes, it was left for people to discover & share by word of mouth.
I gotta say, I’m pretty impressed with the changes outlined here! More so than even that, the quality of life improvements. I don’t know what I like more, the tab-targeting change, or that pets & summons will be more useful in pve.
Yeah, I was really disappointed when I found out about the tonic cooldown. It’s just completely unnecessary & decidedly un-fun. I get that they might not want players to run around in tonics all the time, but we’re talking about a game that lets you join the circus and potentially run around with a big purple afro while killing things with a candy cane hammer, all the while dyed like a rainbow.
Simply put, I do not want to see cooldowns on this or any future tonics. We don’t have any on all of the others, why start now?
I gotta say, turning off culling has made a world of a difference for me. Completing the first invasion event in Tarnished Coast at Fireheart Rise just felt so… epic! Seeing all the cities fully fleshed out with people is a great sight too. Heck, this one change alone has made the patch totally worth it for me.
Sorry, but I have to disagree with the OP on the difficulty. Heck, I think it’s great that there is something really challenging to strive for with Living World content now. Infact, it’s something I would like to see more of. Yeah it sucks that not everyone can get it, but you can’t water down everything constantly, or else the game stagnates & becomes boring. On the issue of bugs though, I agree that they should (if possible) be squashed.
My guess is that with it being 200 skill points, it’s meant to be a sign of dedication to sticking with a particular character for that long. Much like how the other items in the Gift of Mastery show that you’ve done a ton of events, fought a good deal in WvW (achieve chests aside), and completed the open world.
I find it funny people think Evon is the superior choice based on nothing more than that he owns the BLTP. Good salesmen do not necessarily make good leaders. Setting up a trading post does not make him Captains Council material.
It’s for exactly that reason why I would vote for Evon. Imagine what potential chaos— I mean fun he could bring to the Captain’s Council!
I’m sorry, but you can’t say it’s ok for virtually every other class with escapes to use them intelligently instead of sitting there & dying. Many classes can escape when the only people chasing you are newbies who have never heard of gap closers & CC. I don’t think it’s really fair to high level play to balance around that.

I personally feel as though the gem system is just fine as it is. As others have stated, every gem you can buy with gold was bought & paid for after all. Vol’s token idea strikes me as being something that could work for many of us; a RNG element for those that want to gamble, and a choice for those of us who want a direct purchase. As for keeping them rare, is it really worth doing it like we have now just to let a few “special snowflakes” be happy, all the while upsetting the rest of the playerbase? In the case of the current batch of skins, most people I’ve talked to want them because they’re pretty.
To add to the discussion, I think selling cheap RNG boxes (like we have now) alongside direct purchases for the same items could work out to be more profitable as well. Set the prices like they were for the Rox & Braham skins as to not drive people off, and keep the RNG box prices low to encourage people to buy more. This way, if people that gamble don’t get a skin, they’ll still have the option of buying it outright. (Profiting off both the boxes and direct sale) All the while, ANet can make more money (and build their reptutation) in the long run by not kittening off both sides.
I’ve said it before, & I’ll say it again, I refuse to purchase any RNG locked items. If I wanted to gamble, I’d go to a casino, which ironically enough would probably give me a much better return on investment than any of the RNG boxes we have here.
Ride The Lightning
Ride the lightning to your foe, then strike all nearby foes with an electrical burst.
If a foe is hit by the burst, the skill’s recharge is reduced by 100%, also allowing the next 5 casts to not trigger a cooldown.
Cooldown: 400 seconds
Damage: 3,360
Radius: 1,800
Range: 12,000
“I could use one of these between my house & the market!”

Considering how powerful golems are, and their resulting cost both in supply & badges / gold, it makes perfect sense that the owner should be able to take it over like all other siege.
Agreed with the OP. I have never and will never spend money on these stupid RNG chests. They are one of the lowest, most despicable ways to earn profits, preying on those too weak to restrain their gambling impulses. Yes, I know ANet has to pay the bills somehow, but there are much more consumer friendly ways (such as selling items directly) that will earn you goodwill, respect, & ultimately more money in the long run.
How you go about making money is what separates companies like CD Projekt RED & Valve from companies like Zynga & EA. It’s just food for thought, but EA’s business practices got them voted the worst company in America by popular vote for two years running.

+1 from me too. This was hands down the most fun boss fight I’ve had on here. It’s a real challenge, not due to cheap mechanics like getting stunlocked &/or getting 1-shot by attacks you can barely even see. The fact that you need to pay attention to what’s going on while conserving your resources is just awesome. Plus the dialogue is icing on the cake!
Great job guys!
I’m with you Dusk. I would buy them myself if we could just purchase them directly, but given that it’s a gamble where we don’t even know the odds, no thanks. I like the dagger skin, but not enough to flush potentially $20, $50, $100+ or all my gold just because RNG decides to hate me. And before you say “$100?”, keep in mind I saw someone who didn’t get 1 token after 50 keys. So yes, it’s possible.
I just wish as well that they would have stuck with how they handled the premium weapon skins during the Wintersday event, where we could buy them outright.
Definitely, I would love to see something like this one day. What better way to show off your character than be having an actual figurine of them?
Yeah, there are some nice natural to exotic looking red hair colors for humans. My main was a redhead until today, lol. But definitely, I would absolutely love to see more cosmetic items in the gem shop.
Yeah, I’m having issues connecting myself. On the bright side though, I like what I’m seeing from the patch notes!
Thanks Kilrain, but ThiBash gave a much more detailed response, lol. You know, I honestly wouldn’t have a problem with the gear if the devs just made it reasonable to acquire. It only makes things worse that they throw this gear in with fun stuff like the mini or the cat tonic. Plus the fact that while laurels are account wide, those of us with alts are effectively screwed.
Don’t get me wrong here, I love this game to death! You can tell that a lot of love was put into it. But seeing such hypocritically long mandatory gear grinds from a company that says “we don’t make grindy games” really is a downer.
It’s not a mandatory gear grind. It doesn’t give you any noticeable advantage over those who don’t have ascended. It’s not going to sway the outcome in WvW. I have yet to see any real reason to chase after this gear other than WANTING to have the best stats, not NEEDING them. It’s quite optional and exists solely for those who want to chase this kind of gear progression.
Yes, for now it may be, but what about when more pieces come out? Just look at the stat difference between rings:
Ascended – Red Ring of Death
Power: 104
Precision: 69
Crit dmg: +8%
Exotic – Berserker Ring + Exquisite Ruby
Power: 92
Precision: 63
Crit Dmg: +6%
—
So comparing the two we get Ascended being better by:
Power: 13% better
Precision: 9.5% better
Crit Dmg: 33% better
So yes, it will make a noticeable difference down the line. It may not be noticeable now, but when that glass cannon thief in full ascended gear is backstabbing you, it will hit all that much harder.
Well said buddy, the requirements for the new items are downright stupid for anyone that doesn’t like to grind to no tomorrow. Infact, here’s a key quote from the staff found here :“I can’t tell you how many times I played Quest for Glory; the game didn’t give me 25 daily quests I needed to log in and do—I played it multiple times because it was fun!”
Yes, because it sure is “fun” needing to grind dailies for ridiculous amounts of time (30-70 dailies & counting if you can sign in every day.) just to outfit one of my characters with gear that doesn’t put her at a fixed statistical disadvantage.
Please get over yourselves. Ascendant gear has been ridiculously easy to get if you play even semi-regularly. Go play hello kitty if you want a game for 4-year-olds.
The old “go play another game because I don’t like what you have to say” argument.
If I played “semi regularly” as you put it, let’s just say 20 out of 30 days in a month… I would still need to wait 2 months to get one of the new ascended items released today for one of my multiple characters. 2 months for 1 item out of the 12 total that my character can equip, not including weapons. Yes, that is “ridiculously easy.” You sir you helm ArenaNet’s design staff, I am in awe of your brilliance!
I hear you Joey, here’s another quote from that post I linked: “We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional, so those who find it fun to chase this prestigious gear can do so, but those who don’t are just as powerful and get to have fun too.”
Don’t get me wrong here, I love this game to death! You can tell that a lot of love was put into it. But seeing such hypocritically long mandatory gear grinds from a company that says “we don’t make grindy games” really is a downer.
I’ve never had 50 ectos at one time. Running a full stable of alts puts paid to that, and my rare/exotic drop rate isn’t what I’d call generous. I’m more likely to get to 40 laurels before I get 50 ectos.
This new gearing policy of theirs that relies on grind is positively hateful.
I want max gear for peanuts, just the way it was in GW1.
All these eejits insisting that max stats should require grind because that’s how every other MMO does it have spoiled this game.Ah well, yet another reason to continue not to buy gems.
As long as they continue with this despicable behaviour, I’ll continue to play without giving them a cent of money.
They can pay for me to play.

While I am a bit concerned about how the new guild missions might affect smaller guilds, I gotta say that they sound pretty cool from what I read! Also, I echo Vorch’s request for a guild calendar. That would make organizing things so much easier.
