Quit WvW today in disgust. Trying to stomp a player I downed, so I press Rampage as one, around 3 seconds later I try to stomp and get knocked back…wait what? Oh that’s right, Rampage as One never actually activated due to the massive skill lag/delay I constantly get in WvW…

Totally unresponsive, laggy skills, constantly find myself interrupting something I expected to have been cast ~2-3 seconds ago.

Specifically this happens the most in the SW camp on a borderland (Though it also happens in Orchard a lot, and at various other open areas…Seems to usually be the camps?). Open ground. No obstructions. Middle of the camp where all the NPCs are.

I think you’re being punished for being a crappy teacher.

You can tell players the trick to defeating a boss all you want. It falls on deaf ears. You’ll have more success explaining it to a brick wall. Bad players are bad and will always be bad regardless of the advice people give them.

And thank you for perfectly demonstrating what a bad teacher looks like.
There’s three million people who bought this game, and somehow our most elite players know the exact composition of the 110 they’re playing with this time, next time, and on all possible occasions because they’re just too good to even try. Better to decide in advance ‘oh, it won’t help!’

I’m not saying teaching is an easy activity or a common skill. I’m just saying it’s the skill being tested by the event, far more than any individual’s ability to dodge or kite in circles. If you want to improve your odds of succeeding, that’s the skill you need to polish.

No one shows up with the intent to fail. But they may lack the knowledge needed to win. If you’re so certain that you’ve mastered every nuance of the fight, then you need to master one more: sharing that knowledge.

My platform killed our boss. I took no hits from the Marionette.

I realise I can get the meta by doing the daily. However sometimes that daily is “take part in the marionette battle”. 2 hours wait time.

I also kinda wanted to get the meta achievement by doing the actual achievements associated with the story and not the daily.

However, bugs and bad decisions in achievement implementation have stopped me doing so.

The Devs seem to be reading these forums, so I just wanted to provide feedback on what the experience has been like for me.

p.s. I also liked the organisation for this event, forming up into lanes etc. was actually pretty fun. It’s just that I don’t want the achievements to fail like they do now if another group doesn’t do well enough. I don’t mind the whole event failing if we’re just not good enough. However I want recognition for the things that I didn’t fail at. Like dodging Marionette attacks.

I agree with you. I’m disappointed that the achievement is tied to winning the event rather than just focusing on that particular champion fight then and there. It also doesn’t help that everytime you fail, you will have to wait for the next respawn.

So at a minimum (without jumping lanes), you need to dedicate 10 hours to marinette to get all 5 platform achievements. And that doesnt include the fact that you may get hit, or your map may fail, or even that you don’t get the right champion. So you’re more likely going to have to dedicate +50 hours to it.

And all this for temporary content? Not going to happen Anet.

I need to get the #4 boss killed. So I go lane 1. We do it easily.

I then move down to support lane #4 while my gate timer wears off.

Lane #2 fails.

Lane #3 fails.

So now at Lane #4 I have no choice but to go in and fight the #2 boss…we do it.

Lane #5 fails.

Event fails because of other players…lose/don’t get credit for dodging Marionette attacks, then have to wait 2 hours to try again…

I have a job and a life. I don’t have a massive amount of time to play GW2 outside of the weekends.

I don’t really want to have to spend a whole day redoing the Marionette trying to get achievements -there’s a one time, permanant reward for the meta achievement, that’s all I want- that I miss out on due to other players failing, for whatever reason, they’re bad, they’re unlucky, whatever. The reason isn’t really that important.

However when I beat a champion with my group, take no hits from the Marionette and then one of the other platforms fail. I still want to receive credit for MY achievements.

I don’t want to have to wait 2 hours, then have to hope that the other players arn’t going to fail and ruin yet another chance at the achievements I still need.

The content design itself isn’t too bad. The new red-rings for AoE and other AoE markers are great.

Despite what I think about a giant clockwork poledancer dangling from a UFO (..ugh) I’ve finally become interested in the story behind it again…only to have all fun quashed because of terrible decisions on how to implement the achievements.

I doubt anything will change for this living story, but please, in future can we not have achievements that rely on other people not failing? Because it’s frustrating and a waste of time.

p.s. Don’t take insult at the title, a little harsh I know…but true.

I’m confused… how is a “luck” booster in any way different than MF?

Apologies, thinking of it my post/title could have been clearer.

When salvaging items, you now get a chance for a “luck essence” to drop. This adds a fixed amount of “luck”.

When you get enough luck, you gain +1% MF.

So my point was, how long until there’s an item available for sale that increases this fixed amount of luck by 50% (or whatever amount).

Nope, just don’t like the idea of a luck booster, regardless of where it’s from. Plus a lot of people have used all their luck from farming boxes/salvaging.

I really am tired of hearing stuff like this though “nerfing the weakest profession in the game.” If it was the weakest in the game, why would it be getting nerfed?

Because the Ranger is worthless outside of a single spvp build which is about to get nerfed and leave the Ranger with nothing again?

autoattack people for 2k damage every 1 second at 1500 range doesn’t really sound that weak to me, especially since the player is at virtually zero risk and able to dish out one of the highest damage outputs at range, without the need to even use cooldowns.

The class has a multitude of problems, but being weak isn’t one of them.

(@ everyone) If you hate the game and the class so much that you can’t even see the positives or at least try to be constructive, why post? Why continue to complain? It isn’t helping you, or anybody else. It’s just a waste of energy.

Except the auto-attack will miss at 1500 range if the enemy is moving at all.

For the rest of PvE, Rangers do nothing that everyone else can’t do much better than them. Rangers have a multitude of problems but being weak in general compounds them all.

The people who “hate the game and class” are usually players who really want to play a ranger, but have played another class and realise Rangers are just “meh”.

The whole reason I’m here is because I wanted to come back to playing my Ranger, which was my first 80. However all I see are nerfs based on PvP/WvW.

Rangers die really quickly vs other players, so everyone started playing a beastmaster-bunker, you know, playing to the strength of the prof. Guess what? Nerfed. Rangers find a new build that makes them useful in a single aspect of PvP. Guess what? Nerf incoming.

Pets not being useless against bosses and anything that’s moving. Also with ascended gear coming out, the Ranger’s damage potential in comparison to other profs is going to fall even lower. Maybe they should massively increase the bonus beast mastery gives to pets, but then you’re stuck with every ranger having to delve into beast mastery.

PvE only skills were gasp PvE only.

Ascended gear will affect PvP in WvW.

It will also likely get you excluded from popular PvE content (e.g. CoF1) regardless of how much difference the gear will actually make.

Also power creep doesn’t need to have anything to do with the PvE enemies:

“Power creep is the gradual unbalancing of a game due to successive releases of new content.”

First there were ascended trinkets, now there will be ascended armour and weapons. The bonus they give may not be -that- significant when it was just trinkets, add in a full suit of armour and weapons and the difference will grow quite markedly.

So I can probably call myself a “casual” player, though I have 5 level 80 characters, 4 of those in full exotic gear, I definitely don’t play as much or farm as hard as a lot of players out there.

I’ve been in Fractals once, found it incredibly boring and didn’t feel like grinding something I didn’t enjoy for the ascended trinkets. That didn’t bother me too much, I could access some of this using Laurels – costly, but I considered it “fair”.

Now with an intended update to add ascended weapons and armour, I’m going to fall behind the power creep:

I’m expecting to be excluded from groups if I don’t have all ascended gear. Please don’t give me “hurr durr, play with friends” etc. You know that people are going to be excluded from groups due to not having the top-tier gear.

I’m expecting to never play WvW, since people will have an artificial advantage in terms of gear, rather than everyone having (relatively) easy access to the same level of gear. (Exotics.)

It’s a direction that GW2 is going in which concerns me. One of the reasons I loved GW1 was that it was easy to get top-tier gear, but hard/expensive to get the best/rarest skins. GW2 isn’t GW1, of course I realise that, however I feel that this may dishearten a lot of players, who have put the effort into getting group-acceptable gear (i.e. full exotics) only to find that they’re now behind the curve again.

I know this won’t stop Anet releasing this update, but just wanted to express my concern at the decision.

Twilight Arbor Knights just hit too hard

I think its more of a problem of the environment you are fighting them. In free space you can focus them down, but that can be difficult if people are also being feared, poisoned, etc at the same time.

That’s part of it, the first group you fight (FF route) is on a corner. However I pulled them down to a more open space and my party still got wiped instantly. Though I think they didn’t spread out and must have had zero CC…

I tried fighting them ranged, but they would just leap into melee range and pretty much insta-kill the entire party the moment my CC ended.

Anyway, I think next time I’ll just go with a more experienced party so it wont be a problem for me personally. (Since we can just skip them)

However the point still stands, that for a group of first timers, who arn’t lvl 80 with max traits and full exotic gear, they just get obliterated.

I dont think they hit that hard, but the real problem is they can stun-lock you to death.

Would just like to say, they do. I was KO-d in 2 hits as a guardian with full knight’s gear.

Semi-Rage-Boredom-Dissapointment thread.

So I’ve done every path in TA many, many times with my Mesmer. She has full TA armour and a TA weapon. Never really had too many problems. This was with a full pug team of level 80’s.

I tried with a pug today, with players under level 80 (I was a 73 Guard) the others were ~65-75. Well, they wiped on the first set of hounds, which I should have taken as a sign, however they did the next Wurm without too much problem so I stuck with it.

Anyway we got to the first Nightmare Court group and it consisted of 2 Knights and 1 Sorcerer. I was running blocks, blinds and had the stability shout. Which meant I could last ~20 seconds in total before I was one shot by a Knight. Entire team wiped about 5 times at least before I quit. It was costing more in repairs than the dungeon would have rewarded me with for completion.

How is this supposed to be fair, or fun in any way shape or form? They do around 4k damage (at least) to me per hit and I’m wearing full knights gear. I have ~7k health in total so I either die in one shot if they knock me down, or two/three hits if they don’t.

Even if I dodge/block/stability/protection, I can only do that so much. Eventually they get a hit in and that’s game over. I have to wait until we all die so we can respawn and try again….and again….and again.

Maybe it was just a fail party (including myself) but this dungeon should be completable without having to resort to enemies which just insta-KO players.

Don’t really know what the point of this post is, not looking for advice. Which is the problem, we were playing well. The Knights are just OP.

Just hoping someone at Anet views this and decides to rebalance them. I don’t want them to be a cakewalk, but just less stupid would be great.

p.s. Yes I know you can just skip all the groups. I usually would, but that’s ignoring the problem that the Knights are just doing too much damage. People wouldn’t always skip so much content if the risk/reward wasn’t so utterly screwed up.

Points about the scepter:

1) The auto-attack is too slow, mainly due to the weird mechanics it has concerning when the next part of the auto-attack occurs.

2) The clones it summons are useless, they appear next to the target so usually get one shot and they too attack too slowly, with no useful effects.

3) The attack scepter clones use, does nothing useful, unless you have Sharper Images. Even then GS clones make much better of that trait.

4) A block on a ranged weapon…I’ve used it, but it’d be better to replace it with something that just summoned clones on a regular basis without having to block, that way….

5) Auto attack could then be changed to be much faster and to do something useful on hit 3, such as confusion.

6) The 3rd attack has a long cooldown, an obvious windup and is too easy to dodge/avoid/block.

At the moment I really see no reason to use it as a mainhand weapon over the sword.

Condition+Toughness Build

I run a 0/20/20/0/30 condition/toughness build.

Sharper Images and deceptive evasion are too good to pass up.

I usually run Greatsword/Staff. GS clones with Sharper images can crit a lot, stacking up bleeds and Staff clones just pile on conditions anyway.

I basically never use phantasms with this build, sometimes the iWarden, but generally you’ll get more damage from clones.

So after finding out what a kitten getting precision/toughness/condition damage (rabid) gear was, I started to look at other gear that I might consider using. Where is the Precision/Toughness/Vitality gear?

I think every type of stat combination in the game should be available to players who have maxed their crafting skills.

Short and simple suggestion, but something that I think a lot of players would appreciate.

Power creep in items is awful. It’s bad enough Anet decided to scrap the awesome item system from GW1, where anyone could obtain max damage/armour gear with relative ease, but now you have to grind to get top end gear. I’d prefer it if gear was only about looks, not stats. Oh well.

1) Scepter will only ever overwrite one Phantasm with a clone. After that it’ll always overwrite the single clone that you have out. Don’t waste your time though, it’s a bad weapon.

2) GS/Staff is the combo I use on my level 80 Mesmer. I’m specced for condition damage. Though the GS is usually a power based weapon, so I’m not sure why you wouldn’t use it. I’d suggest GS + Sword/Focus for a power build.

3) It says on the signet, it’s 50%. They still die in one hit vs anything other than trash PvE mobs. Don’t waste a utility slot on it.

4) I usually roll with: Decoy, Mirror Images and then either Feedback (reflects missiles/ethereal combo field) or Mantra of Restoration (Whichever heals conditions). Sadly I find most of the Mesmer utility skills terrible.

5) Phantasmal Defender does attack, but it doesn’t do very much.

Phantasmal damage is based on your power in most cases I think. It may use the final “attack” score with weapon DPS factored in.

I suggest you learn to use the staff, It’s a very powerful defensive weapon if you’re not specced for condition damage and a very good all round weapon if you are.

GW1 was just a better game with teamwork.

GW2 is 5 individuals being their own team working alongside each other.

GW2 lost everything that made GW1 a good game and we just have to live with that.

Losing out on things like healing other players, protective spirit, blocking by %, blind that doesn’t suck, daze that doesn’t suck, interrupts that don’t suck etc. is how Anet wanted the game to progress.

Even if GW1 bosses were a tank and spank, I still enjoyed them a lot more than the bosses in GW2.

Is this is relation to blind/block/whatever negating phantasms? This change annoys me a lot too, but I wouldn’t make another profession/character unless it was for the race achievements I haven’t got yet,

Blind/Block, Line of Sight bugs, Timing bugs where my iZerker runs around for a few seconds to get back in range of an enemy that moved a few steps before it attacks etc. etc.

Just irritated that every prof I play gets ridiculous nerfs while profs which are clearly overpowered like Thieves and Guardians still run rampant.

So my main was Ranger and Anet decided to nerf their only viable attack/weapon.

So I switched to Mesmer and Anet utterly broke Phantasms. It’s so bad, that my iZerker actually has time to run a few steps before it attacks.

So since Thieves need a nerf, should I just roll one of those next?

Yes, this is another complaint about Phantasms and nerfs that didn’t need to happen. Anet, y u want to ruin the game for me?

I feel the need to point out that iZerker isn’t bugged. It was bugged before and was stacking up the damage over multiple hits, resulting in damage that was too high. The devs are aware that the change to iZerker made it too weak. It’s now a matter of adjusting the damage to compensate for the bug they fixed.

So maybe next year sometime it’ll be patched….or if the Ranger is anything to go by, Mesmers might get an underwater buff to make up for it! >_>

Rabid Gear - Craftable Please!

Make Rabid Gear craftable please! I messed up and didn’t choose Order of Whispers with my Mesmer, now my only choice is to either pay 50g for the Khilbron set, 240k or so Karma, though I don’t think you can get the whole Rabid set from Karma NPCs. Or I have to do at least 30 runs of Twilight Arbor.

Just make it craftable please. No reason why it shouldn’t be.

I have a level 76 Mesmer and realised far too late that I can’t get Rabid gear very easily unless I joined the Order of Whispers. I went Priory…

So I know the transmute trick can be used to move skins from one order to another character, but can you do the same with item stats? i.e. I want the “Rabid” stats from Order of Whispers armour ( on character B ) to be transmuted across so my Mesmer ( Character A ) can use those stats.

Does this work? Or am I just stuck having to remake my Mesmer and choose Order of Whispers this time?

heres my idea

grats 10-25% move speed based on how close you are to your pet

it would be good for scouting and would help the melee ranger out a bit

Except your pet always trails too far behind when you run and stands too far in front when you’re stood still.

Rangers should get a passive 25% from a trait (Wilderness Survival), remove one of the many useless junky traits.

Then you can have signets with useful effects.

Sorry, but Rangers are bad and their DPS is garbage. No amount of how you feel when you play your ranger, or “pwning” terrible players in WvW will change this fact.

“I’m amazing, I put 25 stacks of bleed on the opponent”
“Opponent uses condition removal and removes 25 stacks of bleed before they even lose 10% of their HP”

This is my main complaint about GW2.

In GW1, top stat gear wasn’t very hard to obtain. This put everyone on an equal playing field as far as raw damage went.

What made the difference was player skill and character skills.

What made certain items valuable, was the difficulty in obtaining/the cost of various item skins.

This was a much better system. The numbers side was an equal playing field. Yet competition between players to have the rarest gear was still very hot.

In GW2, I wont ever have a chance to do Fractal runs. I simply don’t have the time to get the ascended gear. I don’t even have the time to get full exotic gear, which used to be the best!

Now instead of being not too far behind (mostly rares), I’m falling behind the power creep of item updates. If this was just a visual factor, such as rare skins, then I wouldn’t have a problem with it. However the problem is in the raw numbers.

I wont get picked for a dungeon group, because I don’t have the time to farm top tier items.

It encourages people like me with a job (and dare I say, a life) to find gold sellers so that I can play with a group when my friends arn’t online. Why would I not buy gems and convert them to gold? Because they’re a rip off.

I’m not saying to get rid of Ascended items now they’re here, but just be a little more considerate towards players who can’t play so much to get top tier gear.

That’s the thought behind my suggestion/complaint. Now in quick form, are some ideas:

1) Dramatically increase the drop rate of green items from levels 1-60.
2) Dramatically increase the drop rate of rare items from levels 61-80.
3) Moderately increase the drop rate of exotics from Veterans and Champions at level 76+

No, that would really screw over low population servers that don’t get overflows in any other zone besides LA, my server didn’t even get an overflow in Lions Arch until the Halloween events started.

It wouldn’t screw anyone over.

Also incase you’re confused. Overflows are a BAD thing. Having them in the main city of the game due to a dungeon is even worse. LA is busy enough as it is.

Edit: I haven’t seen your edited post yet, but after re-reading it… Are you saying that you are always placed into the overflow server? In that case, then I understand. In fact, I wouldn’t be against having fractals placed outside of LA. It would certainly quiet the main chat.

You’re right about the chat too, lots of lfg – fractal spam. It’s a problem that would only get worse as more players hit the end game as well.

I’m always put into the LA overflow. – I don’t mean the dungeon is in the overflow server only, I mean that players get shoved there because there’s so much more traffic in LA. If I wanted nothing but German and French speakers, I’d have joined a German or French server. Finding a guild is next to impossible in the Overflow too. As is finding a dungeon group of people who speak English and who are on the same world as I am.

LA takes an age to load with all the extra traffic.

Great to have a new dungeon. Not so great to have it in the primary city that everyone uses.

New Ranger Question

My number one piece of advice would be to roll a profession that isn’t bad. (My main was a ranger.)

Other than that, investing in Beastmastery at low level can be profitable until you hit say level 40.
Then you can respec and get piercing arrows (From the power trait line) and then into Skirmishing up until at least 25 points to get the extra 10% damage when flanking.
The trait that gives an extra 50% endurance recharge is also a must have (I think it may be in Nature Rituals?) it only requires 5 points to obtain.

As you can see, I don’t even remember the name of an entire trait line 100%, simply because rangers are pretty stuck with one effective build.

Weapon wise for PvE you’ll want a Shortbow (Only decent ranged weapon) and then a Horn offhand (For the speedboost mainly) and then either a sword (Rooting problems with the auto attack) or an axe, which will give you an extra ranged weapon as well as some potentially nice bleeds.

After the last patch, my main is now a Mesmer. I don’t honestly see Rangers ever getting a decent fix. Their base mechanic (pets) is terrible. They should be a bonus to the ranger, not ~50% or so of their damage output. Which considering how much time they spend dead and how slow their attack is, also isn’t very impressive.

All their core mechanics are seriously flawed:

1) Pets
2) Spirits
3) Bows (e.g. rifles automatically pierce, deal bleeding from any angle etc.)
4) Melee (Sword rooting, evades you have to use up in order to actually use a skill)

Having lots of “utility” in weapons is worthless when a warrior (for example) comes along and just pastes the same enemy into mush within 3 seconds. You don’t need utility when the enemy is dead.

Once you “kill” them once, their armour breaks off, that’s why their health “resets”.
