I do NOT like jumping puzzles. I do NOT want to enter any area via any sort of jumping puzzle, even if I need to just walk in there. And why people should enter EB first to make it clog with queues and postpone GvGs?

Just remove all the stat buffs and give us open large scale fighting area, readily accessible outside WvWvW, via B menu.

Arenanet game design philosophy in a nutshell:
“We are smarter than all our players. Screw previous experience in Game Design, any background is good for a game designer. Here is some game mode, which divides players and many don’t like: Let’s force that to everybody. Game is supposed to be imbalanced. The more imbalanced large scale pvp becomes, the more fun it is for the winner and for us. Good, that most players transfer to the winning servers. More gem cash for us. Hmm, there seems to be too much versatility in this game. Let’s give players all the incentives just to play one character in one way, we define the right way. Amen”

Just loaded up Baldur’s gate.. and,.. the tutorial is more interesting then gw2 storyline. :S

Pouring loads of money into a game does not equal quality. Who would have thought that? I, for one, expected a lot more out of this game. Sad to say with Living Story, WvW, and “Special” PvP, I am utterly disappointed. * sigh *

Bad matches create incentive for players to transfer, translating to gem sales.

Basics people, basics. There’s all the incentive in the world for them to make WvW terrible, because PvE has guesting and the only people transferring will be doing so for WvW.

Maybe I’m just an optimist, but I don’t really think ANet’s so money-hungry that they’re willing to compromise their game’s quality just for the sake of money. It’s possible, but blame stupidity before malevolence.

Well, I think the changes speak for themselves…

- Rank system
- Additional masteries
- Ruins + Bloodlust
- Leagues

The more active and populated your server is, the more you’re going to benefit from these changes. However, if you are on a less populated server, you are basically going to be playing WvW until you’re breathing through a paper bag.

While some players might have enjoyed the Ruins, few will argue that it moves us further away from population imbalance. If it is in this direction that they want to go, the biggest tool a player has is the amount of players on their server in regards to grinding WXP and reaping the rewards of the Leagues.

It’s sad how far this gametype has devolved since launch, and unless players start proactively voting with their wallets and their game time, the future of WvW looks more and more meek.

Players are just as guilty of creating stacked servers.

This. It’s next to impossible to get competitive match-ups nowadays because server populations are so skewed across the board.

Are you serious? If Arena Net cared about imbalanced matchups, we would have seen changes and/or Dev posts reflecting that.

The blog post a while back that talked about giving more leverage to the outnumbered was great for PR, but where are the grouping tools? Where are the changes that make smaller groups more vital to success?

Please don’t tell me that your answer is the Ruins and Bloodlust stacks. This is no different than any other capture point, as it requires superior coverage to hold it.

At the end of the day, you cannot hold players responsible for how your game plays, bar any exploits or extreme misuse. This is why

1) You test things. Make sure that your game is going to play out the way that you intend it to as developers.

2) Don’t make server wars. Servers are going to have a natural imbalance. Everyone wants to be on the most active server and have the best in-game experience. Understand this and adjust accordingly.

3) Provide guilds incentives. Guilds, factions, etc. are a large part of any MMO community, and to minimize their efforts is to devalue your community. Guild in this game have nothing to do other than steamroll content and sit around doing nothing.

What I am saying is no different than what everyone has been saying for the last several months on this forum: listen to your community and don’t feed us a bunch of PR posts.

I would usually be happy about DB getting a raw deal, but for the health of the overall WvW community, it’s not good. Another server will of course rise up to take it’s spot, but the gap between the top 4 servers in NA and the servers below that seems to be growing wider every week.

WvW can be salvaged, but changes need to happen now. Changes that are endorsed by the community and not FORCED on the community.

Perhaps it’s time to change the direction of this ship Mr. Carver.

Changing the direction of the ship would be great if it weren’t already sinking.

A couple weeks ago I came back to GW2 after a break of a few months. I came back to something that was drastically worse then what it was when I left.
A little background. I am on Dragonbrand and I am an avid WvWer.
So anyway, one of the things I enjoy most about this game is the WvW. Before I left, I could jump in and usually find something going on anytime of the day. Ever since I came back though, everything is dead. Dragonbrand used to be pretty good in WvW and could at least put up a fight with any server matched against it. Now it has devolved into an outmatched, outnumbered mess. Even when there are more then 10 people on, the best that can be hoped for is camp raids or an occasional tower cap when the other servers we are fighting feel like throwing us a bone.

I know that the cause of this was the move onto T1 servers by all the WvW guilds. Something should have been done to counter the move that should have been expected from the changes implemented into WvW. Maybe it’s time to start looking into merging servers or restricting numbers or something. Hell, open back up the free server transfers again. I’d have no problem moving if that is what it took, but I sure as hell am not going to pay for it. You guys broke the game. I’m not going to pay extra for your screw up.

I guess the message here is you broke the best part of the game and need to get the problem fixed. And communicate that you are doing something. The best way to make someone give up on something entirely is to ignore them.

Well, they recently changed the fact of there being 2 NA leagues to 3, but that isn’t to say that this changes things very much. Their system of PPT for server pride was set to fail from the beginning, and instead of finding an alternate method to encourage players to continue WvWing, they added in more point capture.

I think by now we can all understand that more point capturing means more favor to better coverage. Players generally want fun and exciting open-field battles, not some alternate form of babysitting.

If you think things are going to get better or that ANet will do a complete 180, you might as well give up hope now. “Conquest” is the name of the game here and the developers, especially sir Devon Carter, have expressed no interest in capitalizing on the combat system in the context of WvW. The best way to voice your concern is to simply not log in and find a different game.

I think what he’s trying to say is that there are personal achievements and if you’re stuck on a queue all the time because you transferred to Stackgate you’re never going to be able to get them.

Of course, whether this is actually the case and whether it actually acts as a stacking deterrent is yet to be seen.

T1 ques r really not as bad as ppl wanna think they r, this is how they go.

Friday reset night- All maps during na r qued for 1-2 hours
Saturday- 3 of the 4 maps r qued for 5-20 mins
Sunday-3 of the 4 maps r qued for 5-10 mins
monday-thursday – 2 out of 4 maps r ques for 5-10 mins 2 r insta pop

This is for the NA timezone only.Ocx/sea/eu at max will hit 2 maps qued and even that is hit and miss. T1 servers r not as strong as they r because they que all 4 of there maps 24/7, its because they have 24/7 coverage and no other server has it.

the truth is the WvW population in this game is just dying, ppl r sick of waiting a year+ for fixes or changes.

Fixed:

Friday reset night- All maps during na r qued for 1-2 hours*
Saturday- 3 of the 4 maps r qued for 5-40 mins*
Sunday-3 of the 4 maps r qued for 0-30 mins*
monday-thursday – 2 out of 4 maps r ques for 0-20 mins 2 r insta pop*

*Depends on time and matchup. If it is an even match ques are longer most of the week. Uneven then its easy to get in on any map usually after saturday.

That’s before the season rollout. I’d probably expect all of those to at least double if not triple once the season starts for all servers, and if people try to stack tier one things could get out of hand. Take a look at Tequatl attendance since his upgrade.

Yeah because Seasons are such a HUGE attraction. Come play our broken open-world PvP for some meta achievements and a gimmicky finisher. I think I heard the wind blowing…

The only people still playing are PvD rank farmers, and those classes that abuse the hell out of perplexity runes.

Edit: And dragonite ore farmers.

And those who love the new Bloodlust area for the small-group PvP it offers. I love it

Yeah, stat buffs are a great way to encourage open-field fighting. It makes the game extremely fair and balanced

I played WvW last night and did not notice any effect that Bloodlust gave me, nor did I notice it for my enemies. Either they did not have any stacks of it and neither did I, or the fact that stacks are removed when the point gets inevitably reset by roamers. Christ, chill everyone.

This is a step backward for balancing population differences. Seasons are another step backward for creating balanced, competitive matchups.

How many steps backwards until WvW falls on its kitten For many, it already has.

Tons, tons, tons of solution on these forums.

And not only solutions, GW2 has people who have played RvR games since they were created. (Most people think that’s DAoC, but it’s actually a text MUD called Darkness Falls, also by Mythic).

From this past experience people have been predicting which patches would be good, and which would be bad, and warning against the bad ones.

But as the expression goes, those who are ignorant of history are doomed to repeat it.

Yes, and I have never seen more posts warning against any changes than I did for THIS patch. What happened, do you ask? Guild disbanded, communities moved on, and a void is going to be left behind.

Yet, we haven’t even hit Seasons yet. I can only imagine what’s next…

Just quit, it won’t get them to fix anything because the major issues can’t be fixed. They’re the foundation in which the game is built on. To top it off their casual friendly philosophy won’t be steering them to make the game enjoyable for any hardcore player anyways so move on and try to forget what the game could’ve been.

Depressing for some, but true. Sacrx said in his video that they wanted to make WvW casual from day one, and that continues to be the case here. My theory is that when we enter the museum of MMOs 10 years from now and see the GW2 exhibit, our guide will say, “Nothing to see here but fashion contests, capture points, and mediocre storytelling. C’mon, let’s move along folks.”

And then other people are like, “if you don’t enjoy the game, why do you play it?”

And then they’re like, “I want to leave, it’s just that there isn’t anything better available right now…”

So you’re playing the best game on the market and are upset that it’s not better?

I think “best game on the market” is an overstatement. “Potentially the best game” sounds a bit more accurate. I think that is what makes for a lack of understanding for the development time spent on certain things by the players.

For example:
“Why would you introduce a cast of meaningless characters that pose no real threat to Tyria and have no significant connection to the overall lore?”

“Why would you put in the same unbalanced orb buff but with capture points that rely on coverage to hold?”

“Why are they trying to shove conquest down our throats until we all gag and throw up?”

Again, these are just a few of the ideas that come to mind when I think of this game. I use the word “think” because I have no intention of investing anymore time into a game that has a development team so ignorant that it alone is a deciding factor for many leaving this game.

I feel the major reason we haven’t seen more meaningful content is based on the fact that changing Orr or adding endgame PvE content would widen the gap between the entry level players and the veterans.

If you were to tell me that this argument would be silly, I would say that I completely agree. I am only trying to approach this from ANet’s standpoint, since the “Living Joke” adds no value to the lore nor does it feel “alive.” In essence, I feel like we are all apart of ANet’s traveling circus, and the time at which we make our departure is not inherent to our understanding of the story.

Stop with the MacGuffins please and spend more time developing your story. You are basically forgoing all the work that the developers of the original game put into the franchise.

It is actually quite cute that people start shouting about this AFTER the patch, when we have known this would be added for more or less a MONTH.
Wouldn’t it be more logical to leave BEFORE the patch in order to send the message that you don’t like the planned patch, rather then leaving after said patch is already in the game?

This guy doesn’t see what he doesn’t want to see. The WvW devs are exactly the same. And that’s a large part of the problem.

That plus the fact that all Anet wants to do is move players from WvW to the failed sPvP puts WvW’s future at great jeopardy.

If you look at lordkrall’s other posts, it’s pretty clear he will defend ANet no matter how far their ship sinks into the sea of forgettable MMOs.

People have been absolutely up in arms about the Orb buff for the last month plus. If you have not noticed such, you must have taken a month hiatus.

On mine people are transferring to others in masses.

Can’t imagine why people would want to give ANet any more money. If it means anything, Maguuma has coined the term “Orbageddon” for the upcoming Borderland changes. Bye bye player communities and GVG, and hello to skill lag, long queues, and mindless zerging.

Well, I think it’s safe to say this is the end of the road for many. ANet is mucking this game up way too much for it to be enjoyable. What was once a revolving door when it came to endgame is suddenly becoming a one-way exit.

Queues of course would skyrocket and WvW would become unplayable for most … which I suspect ANet would be happy to accept since they pretty clearly treat WvW like a bad decision they regret. Resources and focus tell that story.

I’m still waiting for the first piece of meaningful content in any facet of the game. When I say that, I mean one which has a profound effect on the world of Tyria and also one that has interesting gameplay mechanics. Essentially, not the Living Joke.

Which is irrelevant because what was the rate of WvW patching to begin with? A mastery every two weeks? Its not an excuse at much of anything unless you want to see it as such because they aren’t talking about “bug fixes/skill changes” they are talking about things like Bloodlust which in and of itself isn’t something that can just be pumped out in a few weeks, and which completely changes the dynamics of a game/map.

But, that being said, my point was that you seem to be casting this bizarre prognosis (just by simple observation on your other posts) about a thing that won’t be releasing for a month meanwhile something far more relevant/important is being released two weeks from now, which completely seems to have gone under your radar.

How can you be excited about a stat buff that people have been clamoring not to have them put in the game? Say bye bye to GvG, although I know some will argue it shouldn’t be there in the first place. I’m pretty indifferent to the whole issue, but it’s hard to be ignorant of the fact it will negatively impact the community more than anything.

Let’s remember that the best part about the original Orbs was running them from the altar to a safe spot. Now it’s just capture points that will probably be held down by siege and overwhelming numbers. I think it’s safe to say that most WvWers simply want a competitive form of open world combat, and all these implementations seem to derail that concept.

I guess someone doesn’t really pay attention to updates at all. Sept 17th -> WvW Patch <- reserve judgment. Seasons start on October 4th.

I agree, but there is a level of respect to be had for those that latch on to their community. Server merges would be a step in the right direction in my opinion. It would at least show that ANet is making attempts to better their game.

Wait, the only detail I’m seeing here is a new coat of paint. How is this semantically any different than the existing random matchups, outside of the “awesome finisher” that you get for having the best coverage? Let’s not forget that Devon mentioned there only being updates every 2 months to keep each season “fair.”

I’m pretty sure they’re not going to delay class balancing to 2 month increments, so how is this any more “fair” than updates and fixes being added to WvW? I think most would argue that this is more of a excuse to not make WvW the game that it should be. It has so much potential that is wasted by the developers not listening to the community and also spending development hours on undesirable changes. This seems to be a recurring issue for SPvP and PvE as well. Notice a pattern?

Well i don’t really care about GvG because it will be some kind of elitist sPvP kitten anyways.

I see, so introducing any sort of competitive nature in a game automatically qualifies as encouraging elitism? My question is: what else do you do for endgame? Better yet, there’s even less for guilds to do. Thus, GvG would fill that void.

I’ve had this problem too. Plenty of others were able to receive the achievement, however I was unable to for some reason. This has happened to me on two attempts to complete the achievement over a 3 month period, wherein everyone got credit except for myself. It seems like this has been an issue for some for a while now unfortunately. Just know that you’re not the only one =)

THIS. With ANet encouraging players to run as many unique dungeons and paths as possible, should we have to choose between making gold and getting enough tokens to buy a set of gear? The new system they detailed in their blog post will lead to more unnecessary bank and inventory space being used up for tokens that players will most likely not need. Why not let players just pick the gear that they want?

My best suggestion is to allow players to unlock the rights to purchase gear. Each piece of equipment should require a specific path of that dungeon completed in order to trade in your tokens. For example, the Arah shoulderplate, boots, and a few weapons would be unlocked by completing Path 1. This way, players don’t have to complete a mountain of dungeon runs in order to get a set of armor and still reel in the gold rewards. Does anyone see any potential in this type of reward system?

Zephyr Sanctum: The Real WvW Patch

If you are trying to state that WvW players got a little bit jousted with this patch, I’m right with you. Achievement chests yield stacks of 100 badges, which makes it that much easier for those seeking Legendaries to receive their Gift of Battle.

Another thing to take into account here is the WvW achievements and how they play into the new content. The achievements associated with WvW are the grindiest of them all, yet they are the least rewarding in terms of achievement points. Just to give those out there an idea, I have personally played 1500+ hours of WvW. In that time frame, I have accumulated a measly 75 AP. I think it easy to say that the number of AP you get from WvW should be much greater. I especially feel so given we have the Living Story content that will be released every two weeks.

Well this is certainly something. A friend just linked me this, after us first seeing them announcing a toughness buff at a tower over team chat. Anyone else have more experience with these fellows? What are they all about?

[DFND] was asked to be part of this alliance but respectfully declined due to lack of a focus on WvW. Also, if you click to apply on the above website, it takes you to the Tyrian Evilstoppers guild enjin. Pretty informal if you ask me.

Just Defend [DFND] would love to have your aid fending off invaders! Our community takes part in WvW “raids” daily, and we do our best to insure your success in times of battle by teaching you the most important mechanics of each class in various WvW scenarios. Our guild has three commanders including myself, all of which have an established presence on our home server, Maguuma.

We encourage our members to use our Teamspeak server whenever they are on not just to communicate on the battlefield, but also to enhance everyone’s playing experience. True, and there is certainly an argument to be made there, but my OP isn’t necessarily saying that it is wrong to do that. I’m more trying to get at the lack of loyalty associated with this system. Maybe this gives more freedom for the general populace, but again, I feel this gets away from the premise of guilds.

Quoting from Wikipedia’s page on guilds: “They (guilds) were organized in a manner something between a trade union, a cartel, and a secret society.” Does this definition not entail loyalty?

I know that there are a lot of people taking advantage of the ability to be in multiple guilds, but personally, I feel that this gets away from the thing that guilds should be most about: loyalty. It’s great for people to get a taste of different guilds, but it certainly doesn’t make it any fun for the higher ups in a given guild when it comes to managing the part-time reppers.

Some may argue that being in different guilds can serve as a laundry list of potential friends, but really, it just discourages loyalty to any one guild. As a result, a community of “guild surfers” is created, i.e. a group of people that only wish to reap the benefits without giving anything back to the community that houses them in return. Yes, this is something that can be managed, but is it really something we should have to deal with? It also moves people away from something no one really bothers with: giving people nicknames in your friend list.

Yes, you can actually flag people in your friends list that are from different guilds or mark someone down that you like to run FOTM with for example.

At the end of the day, people will do as they wish, but I encourage more people to use this option. On that note, remember also that only 3 members of guild X are required to earn 100 influence for guild X. I hope this helps guild leaders and officers alike and best wishes keeping your guild active!

Just Defend [DFND]

Warning: Do NOT under any circumstances attempt any of the stunts in this video. Trained professionals were on site during filming. Disobeying this notification may result in admittance to the Just Another Badge [UBAD] sister organization.

Currently, we are looking to recruit like-minded individuals who, like us, see WvW as the endgame. With that said, let us go through what you can expect upon joining a guild such as ours.

- Play how you want: You will never be forced to attend events if you are busy in or out of game. We expect events to feel less like chores and to be on more of something that are enjoyable and work well for those with limited playing time.

- Develop your playstyle alongside others: Once Custom Arenas release for the general player populace, we want to make sure we have enough servers to accomodate all our players. With that, we plan to reserve time for practicing fights of different scales and developing our PvP skills. Our expectation is that naturally this will bring more players together, seeing as how their playstyle meshes with others.

- Social, humorous enviroment: As most would tell you, a big part of being in any gaming community is enjoying the time spent with the people that surround you during your playtime. Thus, when we communicate on our Teamspeak server, we like to keep things lively and moderately civil. I use the word “moderately” in the sense we enjoy clever humor mixed in with the occassional sarcasm. As open-minded as most of us are, we do our best keep drama to a minimum, as we would much rather focus on progressing as players than trivial disagreements.

Furthermore, we enjoy all aspects of the game, not just WvW, and we are constantly seeking new ways to increase our participation by generating guild events that feel fresh and appeal to a wide range of players. Here are a few examples of such:

Open Commander night - Get a chance to lead a group of fellow guildees around WvW on a map of your choice! No commander tag required. Each volunteer will have a set amount of time to ensure as many people get a chance to lead as possible.

Exploration Achievement event - Players are lead through the many Mini-dungeons hidden throughout the world, picking up various achievements along the way.

WvW Reset - This one tends to be the Mother of all Russias, as it is often when we have the most players online and ready to charge into battle. The weekly reset for WvW certainly sets the tone for the next several days, thus making it a large emphasis for our WvW efforts.
