We need other ways to get ascended weapons, we need this because crafting is not fun for anyone, and those of us like myself who don’t have much crafts at 400 are not willing to spend the time it takes to get to 500 crafting. So what other ways should We be able to get ascended weapons through? My first instinct is to use the Mystic Fountain, to do a similar type of crafting but with combining ascended crafting materials. Eventually like ledgendaries and their gifts you could make an ascended with strong enough ascended crafting materials.. I believe in this option because it would stop the materials from endlessly piling up in your bank. This method would be fair because crafting materials are acquired by playing the game and having fun. Also this same type of process is done for ascended back pieces.
(Don’t make this a complaint page it’s for suggestions. Also thank you to Anet because You guys get more complaints than You do compliments but you do truly great work. I’ve been in GW2 since beta and you do allot of hard work for us to enjoy the game the way we want to play it.)
Complete ascended weapons have a chance to drop anywhere that the materials used to make them drop.
So basically anywhere in the game but ironically, excluding fractals.
Well, the exact quote from the patch notes is:
“Ascended weapons can now drop anywhere ascended materials or other ascended items can be found.”
Other ascended items can be found in fractals (both from mobs and end chest), so I’d say there’s a chance you’ll get ascended weapons in fractals too. Of course the chance will be absolutely tiny, so it barely matters either way.
I used the essences of luck all at once, after I’d finished salvaging everything. Started with the fines, then masterworks, etc. You need more and more luck for every +1% of course, so it slows down a lot. +300% will take quite a while.
Well, all those lucks listed above took my MF from a starting value of +2% up to +71%. Then finally to +72% when I ate my complimentary 5 legendary essences of luck.
Yeah I felt like I got pretty lucky with the exotics/rares from those boxes. Thanks!
Through gear boxes and general bank use, I’d saved up a lot of masterwork items for later salvaging by doing invasions. 1,111 masterwork items as it happens. Here’s what I got when I salvaged them:
Essence of luck:
Fine: 1,300
Masterwork: 345
Rare: 23
Exotic: 14
Those were all just from Masterwork items, levels 76-80.
I also opened 557 Deluxe Gear Box (the exotic quality ones), post patch, and besides ordinary mats, got:
Piles of Bloodstone Dust: 5,277
Cores/Lodestones: 51
Rares: 21
Exotics: 7
Scroll of Knowledge: 94
Not sure if those numbers will be useful to anyone, but I thought I’d take the chance to get us some rough stats on drop chances while I had huge stacks to work with.
Also – the confirmation message when salvaging masterwork gear is gone with this patch. Just in time!
(edited by Aldred.9345)
Happy happy joy joy – they’ve removed the warning from salvaging Masterwork items with the new patch.
We absolutely need this, and at the next patch too. I have a bank and 4 alts loaded with Masterwork items. Pleeeeeease!
+1
I like it.
Legendaries would still take a lot of time/money to create even if the precursor was easier to obtain. I can’t see them implementing this though, unfortunately. :| More likely they’ll leave things as they are with legendaries. Maybe keep telling us they’re working on that scavenger hunt idea for precursors. I’m sure it’ll be along anytime now. :P
UTC is 1 hour behind UK time right now, or 4 hours ahead of EST.
Yeah I dunno why paper and pen. I did it with Notepad too!
But still something Anet need to fix – and it sounds like they will in future. It’s not difficult to track individual things like these ourselves but we shouldn’t have to. It’d be nice if all such achievements were tracked properly, like in the rest of the civilised world.
A man can dream.
Too late for your 5 gambits now, but I found this post had some useful ideas for general Guardian vs Queen’s Gauntlet action:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1k19su/queens_gauntlet_achievements_small_guide_for/
I don’t see why such changes to the UI would be hard to do. The information about which invasions each player has completed is already stored, as is the list of all the possible invasions. Just pull that through to the UI as a little checklist on the detailed achievement window when you click on it. It really shouldn’t be much harder than displaying whether a whole achievement is complete or not.
As a quick fix for the issue people have reported though, where some invasions don’t count for them, the idea of showing whether the current one is required or not would be a big help I’m sure.
I can confirm the list Zaxares posted. I wrote down every new zone that I completed as I did them, and checked each time that they were increasing my counter. I’d heared of balloon achievements not always counting in the last event, so wanted to be safe. Probably a good idea for us all in future events like this!
Every invasion I did counted did each time – I never got the issue with no credit. For whatever it helps, I participated fully in each invasion, did I think three of them in overflow, and two of those we didn’t get as far as Scarlet. Still got credit each time though. Most I did in a group, but some solo too.
My list, in order of completion:
Blazeridge Steppes
Dredgehaunt Cliffs
Sparkfly Fen
Gendarran Fields
Fireheart Rise
Lornar’s Pass
Hirathi Hinterlands
Bloodtide Coast
Frostgorge Sound
Iron Marches
Timberline Falls
Fields of Ruin
Mount Maelstrom
I deleted mine by mistake because I thought they were quest items from open world (yes I know, very kitten ). But it didn’t seem to matter. As long as you’ve got credit for collecting them you can just roll up and he’ll act like you have them in inventory.
As far as I know they’ll continue once per hour, on the hour, until 3rd of September. Did you read something implying differently?
The playhouse is very easy to solo though, so just think of it as another solo effort like the various storyline fights, or y’know – those guantlet fights.
I deleted them before I even turned in the quest, and everything was still okay.
Well, according to the Official Notes you get a Scroll of Experience.
Aside from the change in wording between their site and the wiki, I’d imagine it’s the same thing. So it’ll only take you up to level 20. Very unlikely it’ll just give you +20 levels no matter what, that’d be far too useful!
When you say turned off NPC chat, do you mean putting the Dialogue slider for sound all the way to zero, or is there another option I’m missing?
I would love a way to switch off all NPC dialogue except when I’m actually interacting them. Having to hear the same phrases over and over and over at an event or in LA is really tedious. So far the best solution I’ve found is just to disable all dialogue, as above.
This happened to me once. I was on Deadeye and someone else was on Pirates, got put into the same fight together. In fact I think there was a third dude in there, but we all died so fast I didn’t get a chance to see what else happened.
Really! Why Anet, why?? :S
Is it so hard to put a filter on NPCs so they can only talk every 30 seconds, no matter what’s happening? Or make the sound radius for them much smaller. Or let us switch NPC spam on/off.
It’s not just this event – it happens a lot where NPCs will blast you with their phrases over and over. But since it’s the Queen’s Jubilee I thought I’d post my complaint here.
Yeah they really shouldn’t, but Anet frequently have a kind of knee-jerk reaction to things like this that they didn’t forsee.
As I understand it, the reason for the change was because people were sending their starting tickets from alts to their main, and perhaps creating new characters over and over and getting more? So that meant they wouldn’t have to spend a long time farming them up, and thus Anet stopped it.
I dunno why they didn’t just leave them as they are, and not give new tickets to characters created after the start of the event, but whatever.
tl;dr – you’re being punished because of a few “exploiters”.
Or at least a way to swap equipment out of combat, since that doesn’t cost anything. It’s incredibly tiring to have to click on everything one by one, and in the case of rings/accessories, drag the second one over manually. Urgh.
Trahearne is probably hopeless in a fight. He’d always turn up after I did the hard work and take credit for it. Time to chop him down for kindling.
Yep, it’s awful. The few times I’ve seen game devs reply about why, they usually say it’s because they’re so busy and it’s more convenient to quickly post something on Twitter than make a proper statement on the forums, which sounds like rubbish to me.
I really don’t know why they do it and why they want people to constantly be checking Facebook/Twitter for information instead of at least posting all of it on their official website too.
I guess it’s something to do with marketing. Even though you don’t need to like/follow/whatever them, a lot of people will, and then their friends will see that, and maybe one of those friends will start playing GW2 as a result.
You’re talking pretty much 5,000 Gems at the current exchange rate – so assuming you’re in the US that’s somewhere around $80 I guess?
Not exactly cheap! But I suppose it’s a very rare item.
Well, they at least start out tradeable (same as some of the things in Black Lion Chests that they changed this patch). So if you want to pay ~78g (or equivalent in gems) you could always pick one up on the TP.
Well I’m in the group that thinks the Wintersday jumping puzzle is pretty easy. It wouldn’t even feel like an achievement if it was any easier, in fact I’d prefer it to be quite a lot harder. Clocktower was great in that regard!
Maybe some sort of ranking system would be best then, as has already been touched upon. You get bronze just for completing it with any health left, silver for having a certain percentage above that, and gold above that. Greater rewards for the faster finishers, but nothing important that couldn’t get by farming other events.
Totally missed it too. Bah!
probably should have quoted Aldred in my post in which he was saying there weren’t any offensive fusions. I was simply directing him to a place where he can learn about them.
Wasn’t intended to answer the question of why there isn’t a cost clone of the defensive one.
:) Actually, if you re-read my post I was asking specifically why there are no offensive infusions available for fractal relics:
A lot of people have been wondering why there’s no offensive infusion available for fractal relics. As with many questions though – no answer from Anet.
I think most of us are aware that all types of infusions are available via the mystic forge if you want to grind 100s of mats, but the original question, which I was just rephrasing, was why there’s no offensive infusion available on the FotM vendor for the same price as the defensive one.
Edit: Typo.

I’m kinda wondering why they even bother with different types of infusion slots anyway. I don’t see what it’s adding right now to split them up into offensive or defensive only. Just let people slot whatever they want into any kind of ascended gear.
Try dying.
Or maybe use an elite or a transform. I popped my Tome of Courage in the Ascalon fractal yesterday and it turned me back into a human.
Assuming no other damage source than agony, they’re both equally likely to die. But the issue is healing back up again afterwards. If one guy has 22k max HP and is reduced to 10%, he has nearly 20k HP he has to heal back up again. The other guy with 13k max HP only has to heal less than 12k HP to be full.
the difference between taking 8k dmg a second as opposed to 4k, is that you can outheal the 4k dmg a second.
How is this so hard to understand?
I… don’t know? I’m not the one that has trouble with it – I was trying to explain to the poster above you. Hence my post about healing and how max HP affects how much you have to heal.

Yeah it’s kinda garbage. As many people have pointed out before me, they made getting around Orr really annoying rather than making it challenging.
Everyone wants to run through the mobs because they drop next to no loot when you’re solo, and will often respawn before you’ve finished killing them all anyway. But when you do that they spam all their cc’s on you and you need breaks/stability/shouts/etc just to survive all the time spent immobilised, before running off again.
I usually run a kinda support (shouts) build with full cleric gear anyway, but I have to say cleric gear is pretty good vs agony. On something like a jade maw transition you just immediately hit virtue of resolve and other heals as needed and, hopefully, keep one or two people up through the agony ticks.
+Healing isn’t always the greatest stat, but against the dubious mechanic of agony it’s better than most. I recommend it.
It doesn’t matter – any even-numbered fractal in the same bracket will have the same chance.
Well, it’ll vary with your group and skill as you say, but whatever number we post here someone else will come along and LOL at us and then add +20 to it.
For what it’s worth I took to running my 10+ fractals in full MF after a while because I hadn’t got a single vial (and even now I only have one), but last night I finished a level 16 run and I’d say that’s about the point for me that the difference was noticable. Going from full MF back to full Cleric gear for my support guardian – much less hassle. I should point out I’m not a fan of MF gear in dungeons, but what are you gonna do? 10-19 isn’t too hard, and I needed those vials maaaaan.
Of course this was just a dodgy pug – in a better group you’d get much further. I’d think level 20+ might be a good point to consider a change around. I’ll let you know when I get there! I doubt anyone runs 40+ in MF gear though, at least without having a major negative impact on their group.
Nope – you can only put a defensive infusion into a defensive slot, offensive into offensive slot, and versatile into either.
The versatile infusion is more expensive at 225 fractal relics because it can go in either slot, but the real question is – why do they have a defensive and versatile infusion for sale rather than a defensive and an offensive (which would presumably cost the same price).
But then – I really don’t understand why they bothered splitting infusions up into offensive/defensive to start with. I’m normally all for some extra complexity, but this doesn’t add anything in my view.
I noticed this too! I was using some left over halloween food, for the +MF buff. I didn’t notice when it disappeared though, if it was in a transition from one fractal to another or when I died or what. It’s happened a couple of times now so I just stopped using it.
Well, you still need the right items to drop. 1 vial only gets you an uninfused back item, which is +5 agony resist. You need more, or a glob, to upgrade it. Likewise with the rings – plenty of people get to 20 without having seen a single one.
I’m at 17 myself and the only ascended drop I’ve ever had is one vial, so I’m gonna have to stop at 20 and keep farming level 10 until I get my resists up. I’m quite sure there are plenty of people out there who don’t even have a vial or a ring by 20.
My suggestions for you VexHelElEldZodEth are:
- Go ranged for the end bosses. Whichever profession you are you’ll have some kind of ranged ability. I play a Guardian and use my staff for some fights. Yes the dps is way worse than greatsword, but then I almost never get downed too. You have more time to react to a lot of the Agony mechanics when there’s distance between you and the boss.
- Yes, get a full Magic Find set. I know – I don’t like using MF in dungeons either, and wish it wasn’t possible or was shared out amongst the group or something. But it does help you get better drops from mobs. So it won’t help you get a ring, but will help you get the vial you need to at least make a back item mean time. You could always switch to proper gear for end bosses or for fractals without much trash. The 10-19 bracket really isn’t that hard with a reasonable group, so the MF gear shouldn’t cause you too much trouble.
- Which profession do you play? Some profession have immunities that you can use to stop a lot of the damage when you do mess up and get hit with agony. For example Renewed Focus on my Guardian blocks 3 seconds of agony damage. Well, all damage. I’d imagine Distortion and (maybe) Mist Form work too? There could be others.
- Can you heal much, or set up a healing spec? You could save up all your heals for when you do get hit with agony and then pop them all, so you won’t be left at almost dead after it finishes ticking. Use Regeneration and suchlike to keep yourself topped up in between if you can.
That sort of thing. Mainly just stay on your toes for the end bosses, so you don’t get hit with Agony in the first place. Much better that you reduce your dps (by going ranged, or focusing on positioning and dodging) than go down due to Agony, and possibly drag someone else away to revive you.
I agree though – the RNG system on ascended gear is kinda stupid. What can you do?
If I’m buying my Obsidian Shards for a legendary (Sunrise) with Fractal Relics, what’s the best use of all this karma I have saved up? Over 600k of it, but as far as I can tell Obsidian Shards are the only legendary component that need(ed) karma. I’d look it up, but karma isn’t a “thing” so I can’t see on gw2db.
Is there any efficient or otherwise method to convert my karma to gold/T6 mats/lodestones/anything else that will help with creating a legendary?
Looking at http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_karma_merchant_items the only option there seems to be buying rare weapons and hoping they make a precursor – not the greatest idea! But I’m hoping there’s something else.
http://gw2lfg.com has the answers you seek.
Yep, it’s shorter. There’s some running and jumping from platform to platform, with trash mobs along the way (all of which you can skip if you want) and then a single boss fight at the end.
The Agony Resistance on Ascended items is only needed in FotM right now and nowhere else. The other stats, of course, are good anywhere.
It’s fairly safe to assume these are all the combinations you can get at the moment:
http://dulfy.net/2012/11/17/gw2-ascended-gear-and-infusion-recipes/
It would reset you. Don’t go back to the lobby until it sends you there basically, unless it’s your first fractal of that session and you hate it – then you might as well reset.
Yep, pretty much! I play a Guardian and can melee most things fine, and the dps is higher in most cases. But even still it’s not always worth the tradeoff, especially on bosses. Much better to do way lower dps with a staff but have more chance of avoiding attacks and staying up.
I’m sure you higher level guys have worked this into potential strategies, but on fights like Jade Maw, are invulnerabilities any help?
I’m only up to 15 so far so it doesn’t matter to me, but for example Renewed Focus on my Guardian stops the unavoidable Agony damage on the Jade Maw transition. I’d imagine some other class abilities work too, at least to prevent a wipe at high level.
Anyway, I’m just speculating. Cool to hear how things change at the high numbers!
