I don’t have a definite answer for you, but I’d always assumed you could. However a guy in my PuG today said you can’t re-infuse an item. I was very surprised by that, but then anything’s possible these days.
I’m sure someone will come along and give us a more definite answer than what a random guy in FotM told me soon enough.
Magic find should be the stat bonus that has ascended gears have over exotics: ascended stats = exotic stats + MF.
Lower tiered gear shouldn’t have MF at all. It should be replaced with something else.
That’s a really good idea actually!
It would probably be representative to add a couple of questions about Magic Find. For example – are there any plans to change how it works in Dungeons/WvWvW? Either by disabling it’s effect there or sharing any MF out amongst the group.
I’d imagine the answer to these from Anet (and anyone who uses MF in Dungeons/WvWvW) is “no!”. But it can’t hurt to ask.
Seems like it’s here to stay though – for example there are even MF ascended items, despite the fact there are no dedicated +healing (Cleric’s) ones.
The exchange rates are on the front page of this site:
I’m afraid so! It’s the more expensive of the two options too, depending on what you put in there. Sucks huh! I guess you could put a 75 relic infusion in for now.
Haha not at all.
It happens to me all the time!
In case anyone hasn’t seen it before, you might get a few pointers from the wiki entry on aggro:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Aggro
It is just the wiki, but they at least base it on interviews and so on. It broadly holds true for most normal NPCs. As ever things are a little less predictable in GW2 than some games though!
Maybe wave them in front of the rest of us who haven’t even got one to drop yet?
I can’t say I’ve played a warrior, so I’ll need to let someone else advise there. But some general things still hold true for either guardian or warrior: For tanking, you want to keep mobs in melee range of you and a little way distant from as many other players as possible. So any pulls/leaps/whatever that help you accomplish that are good. Or just be the first one in so they all swarm you.
For weapons – again this is on guardian but you can apply the idea to warrior – I use greatsword to start with so I can aoe pull everything to me, then hit them all with a symbol/whirling wrath, and change over to my proper tanking set (mace+shield) to take all the damage. Or if they’re weaker mobs just stay dps.
So try something like that – one set to open with and another to turtle up.
Then all the usual stuff – work your defensive cooldowns as needed and so on.
Yes, you can kinda tank a lot of dungeons. Just be careful of using the “t” word on these forums though as, no matter how well laid out your post is, someone will sooner or later tell you to go back to WoW/GW2 doesn’t have holy trinity/etc. You have been warned!
Anyway the main problem isn’t so much that you can’t be tough enough as a tank – although there are plenty of abilities that will kill you quickly no matter what your gear, if you let them – but more that you can’t manage threat quite the same as in othe games. You can do quite a lot to keep mobs on you though – by pulling them to you or getting in amongst them first and dealing melee damage.
So you can tank. Eh, sort of.
The way I run my Guardian is with Cleric’s gear, so that’s Power/Toughness/Healing. Healing isn’t a great stat, but it works for me as a viable tankish/support build.
Most people either run with the same group, make a guild specifically for Fractals (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/FotM-guild-created-Ranks-editable/first#post809512) or, most commonly, use a third party LFG tool since Anet don’t have one capable of the job (http://gw2lfg.com).
Between those methods you can usually find a group at your level at most times of the day. But yeah, it’s not ideal.
I haven’t run any high level FotM yet (currently up to difficulty 9), so I’m just speculating. But if there’s a lot of Protection on the mobs, sounds like the answer is specifically to bring a Mesmer or Necromancer:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Boon#Skills_that_remove_boons
Failing that, some traits (e.g. Guardian’s Searing Flames) will remove boons too. Otherwise I guess dps through it if the situation permits. :S
Yeah I don’t know how they organise these things either. I never get e-mails with announcments, surveys, etc. I’ve checked my junk mail folder, but I get no e-mails from Anet to my registered e-mail account, other than to confirm gem payments or anything for account issues (i.e. only things I’ve instigated).
Maybe I ticked a box somewhere saying I didn’t want marketing e-mails. Or maybe they just don’t like me!
Well, it’s more like a 25% spike since Sunday, but still significant:
I’m currently spamming “lfg fractals lv5” in various districts since about half an hour now, hoping for a chance to get the best gear for my toon.
Anyone who remembers how this game was advertised will see that this is wrong at multiple levels.
Still, is there any “tactic” that may fasten up group search?
To answer your question, try any of these:
1. Join a second guild specifically for running Fractals. For example the one in this thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/FotM-guild-created-Ranks-editable/first#post809512
2. Make your own group and LFM rather than LFG, people will come out of the woodwork when you do that.
3. If your own server is really quiet, log out in LA and back in, and see if the Overflow is any better.
4. Change servers entirely for a week if you don’t mind doing that.
5. Use this 3rd party LFG website until the in-game tool is more useful, it’s cross-server so you can join anyone in your region:
http://gw2lfg.com/
Oh and if you want to upgrade your back item to an Infused version – you need 5 more Vials of Condensed Mists Essence. Good luck with that!
Or you drop directly the T2 vial from the 11-20 difficulty fractals.
Ah, my mistake – it’s even there on the wiki. Well that’s not quite so bad then.
I was about to make a thread about this myself.
Making Vials of Condensed Mists Essence account bound and ONLY obtainable as a random drop is not a good idea. As people in this thread have pointed out – you can do dozens of fractals and still not even end up with one. They could at least put in an alternative to buy them from the vendor for X number of Fractal Relics.

Hi Norax,
Yes – we understand your point, no problem! A few people have mentioned this already. I don’t understand why there isn’t an ascended back item with +Healing on it either. Or why the only rings that have it are those with all stats.
There are even back items with Magic Find for goodness sake – from doing dungeons! But no +healing.
I guess anyone using Cleric’s gear has to settle for the Koss on Koss back item (Power/Toughness/Vitality) and put in a Vitality/Agony Resistance infusion. That’s hardly ideal though because you’re forced to lose +healing that you had on your inferior tier of gear in order to pick up some Agony Resistance.
As you say they might release +healing ascended gear in future, but then we need to remake an expensive item.
Yes of course we need one. I don’t know how it’s not only been left but not currently being worked on either!
P.S. Cross server too. Thanks.
It’s moved on now – go north into the cave at Bakestone Cavern.
Why should people follow Twitter and Facebook when there are official forums for that kind of information?
Yes, we know you don’t need a Twitter account, but what’s the problem with making announcements on the offical website rather than 3rd party ones?
Well the sticky is just a player post that was made sticky, so I’d take what the wiki and guildwars2.com say over that. Camp Karka in Southsun Cove is the best bet. But yeah, it hasn’t been made as clear as it could be.
Sounds like it’s definitely Southsun Cove if you read the entry for 18th of November:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/november-2012/#lost-shores-weekend-event
It would be good if they put a post on the official forums to confirm ahead of time though, like they said they would. No doubt it’s all on Twitter and Facebook…
Yep. That just happened to us on the last fight of our third fractal – one person DC’d and we all got kicked out.
Then I saw other people in overflow asking if anyone else just got kicked from FotM. So I dunno what the cause was really, but it certainly needs fixing! That’s put me off doing more fractals for a while. :/
Well, anytime I’ve got put in that cage it’s been easy to break just by fighting my way out and walking out of the opening. If you tried attacking it and really couldn’t damage the sides at all, that sounds like a bug.
While a good LFG system doesn’t seem to be a priority for Anet, you can use an external alternative in the mean time. This guy set up good, basic website that does a lot of what the in-game tool should do:
Original thread here:
Remember you can’t join parties cross-region (so you have to stick to US if you’re on a US server, or EU if on EU).
Yeah when someone else DCs it seems to reset the counter. We had to do an extra one today because of that. Which is stupid – it should keep counting for the group as a whole. We didn’t bring anyone else in and just 4 manned the last two but that didn’t help.
While you look for somewhere else, keep checking on Desolation at random times of the day – it might briefly switch from Full and allow you to transfer. I found this with my current server – it seemed permanently Full, but after several days of looking at various times of the day, eventually I was able to get in.
Ah, thanks for the info. Sorry to hear about the blanket policy but oh well.
When I log in at guildwars2.com I remain logged in if I go away for a while and come back to read more posts, but the next day I’ll have been logged out automatically.
I understand the timeout is a security feature and probably a good idea in a lot of instances, but is there a way I can choose to remain logged in at my current location? I’ve enabled cookies and otherwise allowed guildwars2.com to do anything it wants, but still no luck.
Many other websites, including those for MMOs, allow you to stay logged in indefinitely. Am I just missing something here that I need to change?
I haven’t paid much attention to the exp actually, but I notice a vast difference between the amount of loot I get when doing dynamic events while in a group and doing them outwith a group – but still with others participating.
I’ve never seen an official post about that, but it’s certainly common knowledge that you get loot way more often while you’re in a group for these things than not. That’ll apply to veterans/champions just as much as trash.
I suspect you also need to do a minimum amount (or percentage) of damage to a mob before it gets tagged for you as well, although I wouldn’t know what that is. But to me it seems as if putting a couple of hits on trash rather than one makes loot more likely.
That site has everything in graph form anyway. If you need the raw data there are details in the FAQ.
Yep, you don’t need to complete the clock tower for anything other than its own achievement. It doesn’t count for the meta achievement.
I’m at 3/4 after winning inquisition and losing rumble, so I guess you don’t have to win for those to count. I’ve done all the dynamic events I need to in the labyrinth, and also completed the clocktower (although people say you don’t need to).
I’d guess the fourth part is in act 3 then, unless we’re all missing something.
With my human guardian earlier, no speed boost.
You don’t need it, but I think a 10% passive boost would be a nice help. I wouldn’t bother with banners though. That’ll just mess you up.
The way I did it was – just keep practicing over, and over, and over…
Maybe that NPC woman next to the bank in Lion’s Arch is working now and will send you there. She was bugged when the event started.
Well all I can tell you is the haunted door near Ascolon Settlement in Gendarran Fields worked for me. The one up the hill outside town. I haven’t left the instance since then, but another guy said any haunted door will do.
Yeah the fact that passive speed boosts work in there makes quite a big difference. Of course you can complete it without them, but four professions are at an immediate advantage.
Guardians (just purely for example!) are not.
Ah, any door works then. I haven’t left since I got in there.
Otherwise – don’t disregard my post at all. Thanks very much.
By going into a haunted door near Ascolon Settlement in Gendarran Fields. Go to that WP, then outside the town wall and up the path to near the top of the hill. There’s a door there. Then talk to the NPC in that realm (don’t take the portal on the ground), and ask him to send you to the clock tower.
To get the achievement you have to get to the top and open a chest.
Aggro isn’t random, but it’s not as predictable as in some other games, and there aren’t high threat moves you can use either. So you can’t have someone easily “tank” all types of mobs in all situations, but some professions and specs can definitely do it more reliably than others.
Have a look at the wiki entry on this:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Aggro
The reason your warrior seems to have the mobs on him much more than other professions is probably just that he’s able to gather mobs up and do a lot of constant melee damage to them all. Helps if he’s using a shield too apparently – according to the wiki, which itself is based off Anet interviews.
On the other hand a ranged player doing the same amount of damage would have a harder time holding aggro.
Yeah I have Water and Life on my mace/shield (yes I use a shield!) right now. I couldn’t find anything much better either. You’d think there’d be something solid and defensive that wasn’t to do with healing.
