Enjoy your holiday, and be thankful there is no Wi-Fi. Sometimes its nice to be without technology for a while and enjoy wandering in the fresh air of the real outdoors; it’s surprisingly relaxing. I even leave my phone in a draw at the hotel and go out without it (shock horror!).

I too thought this was going to be one of those silly threads about some attention seeker leaving in a hissy fit.

I had no problem with it on ele, I just had to make sure I paid attention to what I was doing. I have played ele for 3 years though .. It was a bit more difficult on revenant, partly because I didn’t play with the build much until later. Make sure your build is set up properly after creating a beta character ..

I hope it isn’t nerfed or dumbed down, a challenge is good..

Maybe for living story or even dungeons there should be a easy / medium / hard mode selection to satisfy all types of gamers.

I thought the beta was great, enjoyed the map and the living story, and loved gliding. Difficulty seemed spot on.

Will we ever see fix for broken combat?

Someone pointed out recently that the vitality stat had been removed from berserker amulet (PVP). That might make you feel like you’re suddenly dieing a lot quicker if you run that amulet and hadn’t noticed the big drop in health ..

What do you really like about this game?

I like the combat system and setting up combos, especially as an ele. The play style is very fluid.
Also the graphics and the fluidity of how the characters move, and how you can still cast while moving and the animation just works.
I tried a couple of the more “modern” MMOs and they just were awful in comparison in this respect (even just simple things like walking around).
The artwork is gorgeous too.
I also like that it is a fairly casual game, and buy to play.

Great job on the new graphics options!

With so many people still attacking me when I have shocking aura on, it’s no wonder I win a lot of fights (as a D/D ele). That’s just one example. You have to play intelligently against a good ele and not just mash buttons (though the same could be said about some other classes).

Lowering mobility of elementalist class

The Game Slayer:

I agree. RtL should have 600 range and always target the nearest enemy… heck lightning always strikes the shortest way available… Also Lightning Flash should be nerfed. You should just produce some bright light blinding people for one second (does not stack).

But please also change the Warrior Charge ability too… The warrior rushes to the nearest wall and tries to find a socket to charge his/her phone. Evade all attacks.

Warriors have much less ability then elementalist – ill even say thieves have either the same or slightly less.

Elementalist have at least 5 movemet skills and blinks – where as warrior has 2 and thief have 4 – (including their utilities)

Right now there is no way to catch an elementalist in wvw they just run water – zoom away – water – ride lightning.

I agree with most ideas in this thread to make RTL 90 seconds cool down when not hittng a player and 75 seconds when it does hit.

Probably shorten fire skill 3 range to 300? and keep its damage the same but take away burning stacks it causes.

You realise most of the replies in here are sarcastic, right?

Ele is a light armor class, and therefore not as tanky as warrior. There has to be some advantage of being light to make up for the lack of armor right? Such as being agile and maneuverable. I mean, it would be silly if a heavy armor class like Warrior could out maneuver an ele. Oh wait…

When I first started playing the game as a Sylvari over 2 years ago, I really wanted to get to this mystical place “Lion’s Arch” that I’d heard about. I spent ages fighting my way north over a few days, levelling up, until I finally got there. Then realised all I had to do was go to the mists with a click of the mouse and run through the Asura gate. It was comical.. A real “duh” moment. GW2 vs. FF-XIV

(snip)
I am loving GW2’s huge map. That’s what makes it feel more like Everquest. It’s coloring that looks WoWish. Of course on a Windows Vista I have to have graphics at lowest sadly.

The version of Windows does not (or should not) have anything to do with the game performance and therefore what graphics setting you can use. It is solely down to your hardware (CPU/Graphics Card).

Unfortunately GW2 is not designed in the most optimal way so you do tend to need more power compared to similar games.

GW2 vs. FF-XIV

Alienmuppet.1942

Is it maybe a bit silly to argue about this? I haven’t played FF but from what I can see in the YouTube videos it looks very different to Guild Wars 2, so some people will prefer one over the other – or (shock horror) you could like both and play both. No need to be polarised about it.

For me, FF just looks immensely cheesy.. from the overly breathy dialog, to the music and graphics, but that’s just me – others may love that. (Disclaimer: I realise that may be slightly unfair having not played it – my point is that people like different things).

I tried Tera and initially the animation put me right off, especially the way the Castanics ran – but I got into it after a while and grew to like the animation, though its telling that I’ve not played it much for a while. If I sit down and want to quickly play something, I’ll go into GW2 and play PvP. If I want to have a long game and relax I’ll do some dungeons or the living story. There are plenty of things that annoy me about GW2 though.. But I love the animation and combat system, and enjoying the story at the moment.

I also tried ArcheAge – I haven’t been that disappointed for a long time! But again, others took to it.

This discussion prompted me to try and play avoiding waypoints for a while (when doing the Living Story at least) and to me it really does feel more immersive and like you’re more part of the story, and it feels more relaxing too. I like that it takes longer to complete and that I don’t finish it all in one sitting (I only play an hour or 2 each evening); I know I’ve got something interesting to come back to (and look forward to) the next day.
No good if you’re farming obviously, but that’s not really my thing; I just play to unwind and have fun – though I occasionally entertain thoughts of going for a legendary.. ! Seems so daunting though.

You don’t dodge in a stack? That’s news to me.

Yes but its not the same, you are still just standing there overlapping each other mashing buttons – occasionally including the odd dodge roll. Not exactly the height of excitement or skill still.

Imagine showing that way of playing to an outsider, someone whos never seen it before.

“Why are you all just standing there on top of each other, looks boring..”.

Like the poster above said, I can understand people wanting to do speed clears, but people sure do get angry and rage about it if your team isn’t stacking or isn’t being fully effective.

Full Zerkers ONLY!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Alienmuppet.1942

I am definitely not a fan of stacking, and will switch between different gear as the mood takes me. If I’m standing there stacking I feel like I may as well not have the game running and instead just sit there moronically pressing same buttons over and over dribbling with boredom. No moving, no dodging, no skill.

It does feel like a job when people just want to clear it as fast as possible. I have enough of doing things as fast as possible with my day job. This is my leisure time. My end goal is not to accumulate gold, it is to have fun. Can I do it quickly if I really need to? Sure, I have a full set of zerker gear and I’m a very good ele – but man is it tedious.

I slowly went through a dungeon recently, not skipping, not stacking, and wiping out every mob. I’d forgotten how much fun it was.

SNIPPET

Are we talking duels on a duel server or tpvp/spvp?
In sPvP there are fights that I do not take if they hold a point. I’d never engage against a Warrior since the fight would be too long, but the only class that I can never beat is engi.
They are incredibly strong in Conquest, but in duels I can manage a sustained fight that goes on forever.
25 stacks can be reached, and it’s all about doing a little mini-game trying not to waste any blastfinishers without a firefield, if you’re on a team with another ele or engi it’s obviously much easier.

TPVP/SPVP mostly though I do duel a little sometimes on duelling servers (and get my kitten kicked sometimes by all sorts of classes, though I am a semi-casual player I guess). I never use macros as I think there is more personal satisfaction doing it all yourself.

Regarding what you said about 25 stacks of might: That’s a little different to people implying that getting and maintaining 25 stacks is easy. You can’t often keep a perfect rotation either due to changing situations during fights. You have to adapt. During fights I typically look down and see maybe 13 stacks of might (yes I am using battle sigil + strength runes). Maybe I need to L2P a little better, but often I’m recovering from all sorts of cripples, immobilization, conditions, etc. and no way can I keep a perfect rotation / blast finishers going.

If I get all my boons converted to conditions and my cleanse is on cooldown, I’m usually dead because I can barely move. 1 good necro on a team is all it takes.

Of course I’m no “pro”.. so could be missing something. But I shouldn’t need to be, as some are saying how easy it is…

I cannot tell if the OP is serious… So many casts work like this, the list above proves that. Conditions is another example. I think of the meteor shower as during the cast the meteors are being conjured high up and start falling immediately. If the casting is interrupted, less meteors are conjured so less fall. Pretty simple really.. It’s a also like the arrow leaving a rangers bow.

Alienmuppet.1942

I did not say it was not unbalanced, I said often people cry nerf just because they have trouble beating a class. It depends on your perspective a bit. My list of how I get on against other classes is like this : -

Necros: Very good condi necros give me a lot of grief, I sometimes get beaten. Oddly there seems to be a big divide.. the not so good ones I can often beat.

Mesmers: Good ones give me grief; I’m bad at spotting the real one a lot of the time, sometimes get beaten. I usually have to tab to find the ones with the boons on them, and sometimes that doesn’t work if they stealth. Could be a bit of a L2P issue. D/D ele is moving a lot so its hard to just stand back and find them.

Engineer: Usually get beaten by good ones to be honest, especially high condi ones.

Warriors: Don’t give me that much trouble because they often do silly things like walk into my churning earth.

Ranger: I can usually beat them if they are too busy hiding behind being ranged.

Guardians: Fights go on forever if they are bunker. There’s a certain combination of 2 guardians at times that seems very powerful – they use a lot of CC and I melt instantly. No idea on the builds.

Theif: Again, can usually beat them if I can guess where they are going to be when they stealth, which isn’t that hard.

Ele: I usually beat other eles.

So basically Theif, Ranger and Warrior I find are a bit underpowered (though glassy Rangers can get me from a distance if I’m not careful).

I don’t profess to be an ele master so perhaps some of that is L2P. I have played ele for over 2 years, but only a couple of hours a day. I use a multi-button mouse so I can easily access all the skills and strafe at the same time and am fluent at the controls and can dodge most attacks – so maybe I’m doing something else wrong not to be able to consistently beat these other classes being that I’m really OP in your opinion?

Honestly I’d love to meet up in game and perhaps you can give me some pointers. I don’t mind being beaten, it is just a game and stayed with ele even when we were in a bad way, but if I can improve that’d be great.

Also I can rarely sustain 25 stacks.. and I rotate through the elements a lot, and use the fire field to get further stacks of might.

Care to lend a hand?

These threads are pathetic. Seriously. Try browsing through your previous posts, you’d probably realize it was stupid.
“lol. Ele and Engi are not OP. Learn to play the class to counter it”
Stop this argument. It’s bad. You dont have to play a class to know when something is unbalanced.
I main D/D Ele and I think it’s fairly reasonable to nerf that spec. I would not nerf any of the abilities, but rather go for a change that hits Cele Engi as well, since IMO that build is even stronger (which in short is due to the extreme low cooldowns and kittenloads of skills). History shows that nerfing the healing is not the way to go, since Anet already tried that.
… SNIP ….

TL;DR:
Might as a boon is too strong, and 25 stacks can too easily be reached due to the extreme duration of Rune of Strength and Sigil Of Battle+Blast Finishers in general. Reduce the duration and the Condition Damage gained from Might.

To all those crying nerf; I tend to think if you think something should be nerfed, try playing it yourself for a few days and then see if you think the same. I’m not saying there isn’t a case for it, I just think often people cry nerf because they often lose against players that have developed more skill – and to succeed at all with ele you do need to have developed some good reflexes and timing.

The best MMO out there is WoW and will be WoW for a long time.Just look at this article:

http://www.pcgamer.com/league-of-legends-has-made-almost-1-billion-in-microtransactions/

TLDR – the 4th most successfull game for 2014 by reveneu is WoW.Making $728 millions. For a 10 year old game it is still the most successfull MMO out there.People may love it or hate it but the money can’t lie.GW2 is a good game.I can’t denie that but it’s not the best MMO on the market.

Subscription numbers have slid dramatically over the past several years (although they recently enjoyed a bounce thanks to the future launch of Warlords of Draenor), but the spending on in-game items, which is all these numbers take into account—no subscription revenues, in other words—is way up: Its nine-month total is more than triple the $213 million it earned in all of 2013

Best does NOT equal most popular. Just look at popular music, and popular television. Manufactured mediocrity for the masses, and it gets lapped up. Marketing at its best, at least..

It would be great to see better AI. For example, I think it is the Shatterer event where everyone can just stand to one side and range DPS the boss, while it just attacks a load of people that aren’t there in front of it, or at least it used to – I haven’t done it for a long time.

It spoils any immersion and it becomes a joke, to the point of wondering why you are doing the event (I’m not a farmer).

It would be much better to make the mobs/bosses move around more, maybe even dodge a bit themselves than just increase there health bar to something ridiculous. You may as well sit there clicking a down arrow on a bar with a decreasing number and have some pretty graphics in the background to look at..

What the devs do in there free time is really none of our business. For them to have AP equivalent to some people here, they’d have to live and breath the game all day and all evening. As a developer myself, the last thing I want to do when I get home is use the thing I’ve been working on all day. If it is a game, I might play with it a bit but I’d rather not spend every evening in front of a screen as I’ve already been sat in front of one for 8 or more hours. Lol! Want to talk about Heavy Armor class with mobility? As illogical as it seems… I’ll counter you with female characters that wear what seems to be completely nothing being able to tank more than male characters that look like they can hold back a moving train. This is a game. Logic isn’t here, sadly.

When it affects base stats, they should carry the logic through. A heavy armor class has higher base stats, therefore there should be a con to counteract that.

Male or female does not affect base stats, neither does how much flesh the armor shows, so that doesn’t bother me.

Cowardly Warriors

It still amazes me how a class that is decked out in heavy armor wielding a 2 handed great sword is more mobile than most of the light armor wearing classes (eles excluded here).

What has armor class got anything to do with mobility???

A heavy armor class is.. heavy.. therefore mobility should be less. A heavy armor class has much higher toughness and vitality base stats and hit like a tank, so there should be a downside, you know, pros and cons to balance things out.

Light armor class: pro: high maneuverability, con: low toughness and HP.
Heavy armor class: pro: high toughness and hp, con: low maneuverability.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to be the case with warriors. They have much higher base stats and high maneuverability. I’m not sure what the downside is, however I don’t play warrior so might be missing something: this is just an observation.

Please understand ANet that I’ve spent a lot of time getting to 15,500 AP’s yet I don’t really get rewarded for it, aside from the skins that I will probably never use! There must be some better way to reward us.

But then you penalize people with less time to play. Maybe for each event they could calculate your contribution and reward you accordingly? I tend to think skill should be rewarded.

Ele Lightening Flash bugs

Hi,
For a long time there has been some problems with the Ele’s Lightening Flash cantrip. There are currently 2 that I can report, and both can be a game changer in a fight, especially in PvP : -

1) Getting stuck after Lightening Flash. Sometimes I will lightening flash during a fight, and will end up in the new location without being able to move. It is not because I am stunned – it never recovers. My ele will still turn and face the direction I am trying to run, and the graphics will change as if I’m trying to run (legs do not run though), but I will remain stuck there until either I do Burning Speed, RTL or Updraft, or until I die which is often the case because I cannot move.. ;-)

2) Lightening Flash showing a green target, which I thought meant the target was valid and will succeed, but then when I click nothing happens other than seeing a lightening flash. Again this can then cause me to die because I am usually using it tactically in a fight.

It is mainly the first bug I mention that causes a problem for me because you are literally a sitting duck. It seems to happen fairly often too. I can’t be sure but I think it happens when I’m about to be struck so I lightening Flash out of the way just in time, but as I said, I am definitely not stunned.

I think others may have reported this in the past, but I wanted to bring it up again as I think in the context of an Ele fight it is a pretty serious fight changing bug!

If it makes any difference: I play a female Sylvari d/d ele.

Thanks.

IF and that is a VERY BIG IF this is truly it is very disheartening. True it is their game but we bought it so that in turn makes it ours also (even if its just a little bit)……

You don’t even own it a little bit. You only buy the licence to use the software.

You own it more then the person who pirates it. The same for playing in a public field. I play Futbol or soccer for americans and we have to buy permits to give us the “right” to play there. It is mostly so they are not liable if we get hurt but we “own” the right to play there.

The rights given to you will be clearly stated. There is no implied rights. You still own nothing of the software.
I am a software writer / vendor myself and have dealt with solicitors when drawing up terms & conditions, etc. I would be very upset to find anyone who bought my software thought they had some say over it. They do not. Their rights are spelled out in the licence they purchase.
