Should Tornado/Whirlpool be a Cantrip?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Angry Helper.2915

Angry Helper.2915

A Cantrip isn’t an elementalist transformation spell. Cantrips are unique to elementalists and serve as stun breakers. They also all add to the survivability of the elementalist in one way or another.

Some classes have class specific transformations while others can transform via norn/human racials. For a list of transformation you can see the Wiki, I think tornado fits in line with these skills rather than Cantrips.

The main thing that would make me think twice about an inspect option is that it opens the way for. "We want a “insert runes” with a “weapon” or you can’t come. I know it doesn’t matter a great deal in this game, but that doesn’t mean people wouldn’t have to live with it.

I saw people asking for level 70+ for AC explorable. While they may have wanted a more experienced player, its also another way of saying you want them to be in better runes/armor. ACem has a suggested level of 35, players at that level should (doesn’t mean they easily will) be able to do that content.

We don’t need anymore reasons to not accept people into a group beyond past experiences (given the assumption you disliked the person’s attitude/playstyle in the past).

@Simon -I spent too much time organizing my statues before GW2 came out to not even see tattered remains of the statues… We don’t have access to enough titles through achievements for anyform of HoM type thing currently though (not to mention a shortage of prestige armor… on a side note, what you CAN find was still interesting

I’m only really familiar with the Staff, its been a long time sense I’ve used the other combos…

But from what I see…Geyser would be giving 4+ seconds of immobilize… as it ticks twice. I think it would be nice if Geyser at least hurt enemies…I’m not asking for a lot of damage or anything buuut… (looks over at Orr) oh, the Undead’s Geyser hurts and heals. :P Some extra supplemental damage would be nice, granted I’m just happy with the combo field.

Eruption only hits one time, so it already does what you are saying orrr your recommending it be a bleed Lava Font….at which point staff loses its blast finisher (ignoring utilities and traits).

I would love to cool down reduced on Magnetic Aura…Only because it would make my life easier. But to make it identical to the focus ability is well…making it identical to another ability. The focus as a defense focused skill set should have better defensive abilities than the staff imo. Also, my Magnetic Aura already has a 24 second CD because of traits… Playing with CDs that can be reduced further is always a dangerous game.

Reducing the CD on Unsteady Ground is interesting as well as it would allow an elementalist to keep the wall up nearly 60% of the time. which is a very long time to be kiting through a cripple field, especially if you look at our other options for CC.

Your asking for a lot of skills to have reduced animation times…but that would make many of these skills fairly difficult to dodge and most of them pack a significant punch to make up for the slow casts.

how do we have perm swiftness?

Angry Helper.2915

20 points in Arcane if you use your #4 then #6. Then switch out of air, back to air when your CD on #6 is coming up. Then after you cast #4 again, switch out of air again. Wash rinse and repeat. No combo fields, no runes needed, just 20 points in arcane. I don’t use the CD redux in the air line, so this set-up can be used by anyone using arcane (the switching is important because of the boon on switch trait so you need that).

How do I defend against Crossfire?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Angry Helper.2915

Angry Helper.2915

To start with, I don’t sPvP so my advice may not be relevant as I don’t know how hard things hit from players typically which is the reason for the following question/suggestion.

Question: Crossfire hits for 10k per arrow!?!?!?!?!?

Suggestion: You mention Vitality…Toughness is the best way to reduce pure damage. I run low Vit – High Toughness for general PvE and I rarely get mowed down unless I decide to face tank 4-5 enemies…
You could also try and toss Armor of Earth in? Or at least trait it? It has a pretty good duration for protection.

Harvesting Tool Manager

Angry Helper.2915

From a perspective on selling anything you harvest, most (if not all, too many plants for me to bother checking) collectibles are worth more than your pick. While your profit margin does increase if you use a cheaper tool, I don’t think it a major issue unless I’m wandering through an area and don’t want to harvest something because I am literally losing value by harvesting a node.

Iron Pick = 56 copper

  • 10 copper each (current insta-sell price for Iron)
  • 6 picks for recoup of investment
  • 56 copperForPick / 100 usesOnPick = .56 copperPerUse
  • 10 copperPerOre – .56 copperPerUse = 9.44 gainOnUse

OR

Orichalcum Pick = 400 copper

  • 10 copper each (current insta-sell price for Iron)
  • 40 picks recoups investment on Orichalcum
  • 400 copperForPick / 100 usesOnPick = 4 copperPerUse
  • 10 copperPerOre – 4 copperPerUse = 6 gainOnUse

Its not optimal, but if you want optimal you have to sacrifice inventory space.

Personally I don’t find roughly 3.5 copper per use to be worth my time or A-nets. But hey, it adds up and for anyone who mines to use the materials, the numbers are a little bit different but overall the conclusion would be roughly the same. You still make/save money by mining with Orichalcum tools.

If you are going in a zone for the strict purposes of mining a particular type of node, as you can see, Iron only requires 6 picks to recoup your investment, thats only 2 nodes worth. If you only do 5 nodes thats 15 picks and then chuck it because your going back to Orr, you still gained cash. Whether or not that is more than if you just used your Orichalcum or not is something I’m not gonna bother with because my math is probably already wrong. :p

Why is it people who have never joined a guild, only been invited are considered "kicked" or "left"

in Suggestions

Posted by: Angry Helper.2915

Angry Helper.2915

If you sent an invitation from the guild doesn’t that technically mean that they are a member? I mean granted if they do not click accept they can not represent or read guild chat but in my eyes, the guild has sent the invitation showing a willingness to add them to the roster. Hell, they ARE added to the roster if only in the “invited” section. If this were reversed and players we submitting applications this problem would make more sense seeing as how your not going to accept everyone who submits an application. However, this is not the case, your adding them to the roster and they are leaving, or you are adding them to the roster and then kicking them. Declined and uninvited reads the same as left and kicked in my eyes.

What utilities do you use underwater?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Angry Helper.2915

Angry Helper.2915

Well… my current underwater strategy is… Use whirlpool while yelling “IMATORNADO”.

Beyond that I run Arcane Shield, Signet of Water, and Armor of Earth. Shield and Earth help with the yanking if you know its coming. A lot of my strategy underwater requires me to not be in Orr… err I mean not fighting 3 mobs at a time. I still haven’t really perfected Underwater Water actually does really good burst though. And you’ll receive the innate regen…not that its a lot…but I have lived with 30 health on more than one occasion. :p

Edit: Sorry if this is a bit off topic. But I was looking into running extra points in water (currently only use 10) what trait do you use for your 20 pointer? I use reduced CD for trait 1.

Tips for leveling an elementalist?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Angry Helper.2915

Angry Helper.2915

I played around with S/D and D/D while I was leveling, but I found myself using the staff for everything later in the game. With just Arcane Shield as a fall back I find that you can drop most enemies with an Eruption opener, followed by another Eruption and a Lava Font over it. This give you the lovely might stacks and if you bring Arcane Wave (I usually bring dual elementals with the Signet of Water) you get even more might and guaranteed critical damage.

I specced into earth early to get access to the toughness and condition damage, then went for the arcane points (the atunement swapping buffs are amazing) and only then did I go into fire (fire traits don’t really get me too excited). Earth Trait III is a major life saver and I would spring for it early on.

I tried to focus on Cdamage when leveling but really… I just threw on whatever they gave me. Also, as has been said before…don’t get smashed in the face…It doesn’t usually end up in your favor.

Mini-Pets Sent to Bank as Collectibles

in Suggestions

Posted by: Angry Helper.2915

Angry Helper.2915

I have always been a big fan of mini pets ever since the original GW. I always carried around three or four with me where ever I went. I still enjoy breaking out my pets from time to time but there is one thing stopping me from doing so whenever I wish.

Mini pets are considered collectibles by the “Deposit all collectibles” option in the inventory panel. This is such an incredible tool and it makes my adventuring so much quicker by clearing out all the materials you gather during your travels. However, I am often frustrated between the choice of rummaging through my inventory to find collectibles to clear out or keeping my mini-pet(s) in my inventory. If the deposit all collectibles function ignored them it would make clearing up the inventory a lot simpler.

Has anyone else encountered this and found a work around that I didn’t think of?

Playing Support Elementalists

Angry Helper.2915

First off, use a staff.
you can fairly easily get a total of 4 blasts in 1 healing rain by precasting eruption, arcane wave, 2 rolls with evasive arcana. That’s a good 8-9k healing without healing power.

I completely forgot about arcane wave! I agree that utilizing the combo fields with blasts is sooo useful. I rarely initiate fights without eruption blasting at least.

How to build traits :(

in Elementalist

Posted by: Angry Helper.2915

Angry Helper.2915

I’ve been enjoying a 20/0/20/10/20 set up. Reducing my CD on Earth, Fire, and Water. Leading with earth, you can get 12 stacks of bleed, (switch to fire) burn, and 5 stacks of might (combo fields ftw) on you prior to the enemy reaching you. All the things I mentioned are AoE based gaining a benefit from the 20points in Arcane.

I only recently hit 80 and I’m in a set of lv75 magic find gear but I haven’t encountered any real problems in general PvE. I primarily use a staff.

Yeah, every attune has that (except water) the air one has such a long range though. So many moa, rabbits, and other friendly wildlife have met an untimely end due to the 15 point trait abilities.

However, speccing into air just for the speed boosts? You only need 10 points to get all the speed traits (I think). That being said, if you don’t put 15 points in the minor trait won’t be active! I also know that precision is popular for elementalists so your point remains, it would be nice if these traits only affected aggressive targets.
