No, while it is unfun when team keeps ressing and ressing downed players, that would be another step to promote tanky builds and classes and we already have only them in meta.
What I would like to see is equal (and way lower, somewhere at thief’s armour and downed ele’s hp pool) defensive stats of the downed players. That would serve the opposite puspose and will make res/stomping something else than battle of CDs.
A-net persists on keeping UI as uninformative as posible to promote mindless spammy gameplay. So while such thing as CD tracking (amongst many other things) would be nice, we aren’t going to get it.
Well, that aetherblade leader girl escaped prison in LA and wasn’t mentioned since them so I guess it iss her guys.
Just a question: how do you survive a thief? Or a ranger who has Piercing? positioning only and Mist Form? A thief can oneshot you, and a ranger can 2 shot you. from afar. I understand that you can wreck havoc but the very second they realise this you are toast. No stability, so the first knock down kills you.
I don’t see how you survive… Sorry. It must be positioning…
You don’t survive anything for more than a second (and you aren’t literally getting oneshotted with applied fortitute). If thief or warrior comes to you you just fire4 or mistform into your guys and let them cleave it while you are CCing a bit. If you are attackeb by ranger (actually rangers are quite rare in wvw) just pop earth 3 and go away. If you got downed you’ll most likely rally from all those guys tagged by aoe before vapor form expires.
And mostly this is really about positioning, not much people will want to attack guy that are on 1200 range and have his zerg between you and him. But if enemy zerg is coordinated (guild for example) and wishes to focus you you shouldn’t play full zerk at all, as I said before.
In my days in some other game we had similar comboes with some pyroblasts involved and it was considered extremely cheese. Here it is “a skill”. Well, guess people just got used to slow and measured pressing of 5 buttons.
I am playing zerker staff ele a lot on SFR and use this build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fFIQFAWhUMaZW5wsBr0AEAS4ARWIuUmOleD-TlBEABJ8AAYS5XK7PAwFAIR1f2SJoYA0D-w
The most fun part of this build is that with GoEH, strength sigil/runes and fire XII you always have 10-15 might just here and can easily (really easily, just about every time) get to permanent 25 while attacking enemy zerg. Without any might stacking. Yes, strength runes aren’t cheap but you should have bought them before 15.05, patchnotes for it were open for everyone.
Some choices that may seem to be questionable are 1) GoEH as healing skill. It is great to get permaswifness without wasting air5, some might in combat ot extra healing. ER would be nice to counter condi spikes for which you have no answer at all, but you’ll get them very rarely in zerg fights. 2) arcane wave here is just for proccing air VII and some nice instant damage on demand (does nice burst if chained with air 2). 3) signet of fire is something you are going to swith on demand for signet of air/LF/FB or whatever. But it always nice to have slot ready and some extra crit for it. 4) fire XII instead of fier XI. Well, while fury is nice you have absolutely no need to stack might (read above) nor you can actually do it so trait is quite useless (apart from extra seconds of fire 2). 5) air XI can be switched for water VI for 10% of damage, but yeah, retaliation. Your hp is extremely low so you won’t have 90%+ of it for a while. Other stuff like arcane VIII or earth whatever is surprisingly useless.
This build (with a bit of experience) has quite nice surviability, but also some restrictions. First, you aren’t going anywhere without applied fortitude, ever. Second, you aren’t going to kill anyone 1v1. Dont even try unless… well, just dont. Third, you always need to think about you positioning. You cannot go blob on tag under that ACs, you cannot go far from your zerg, you cannot chase, you cannot rush through enemy blob, you cannot, you cannot, you cannot. This will just take some time and experince to learn. And due to this difficulties in maneuvering this build isn’t really advisable in coordinated guild runs unless they have some specific tactics for you.
This thread shows perfectly why we aren’t going to have nice things, ever.
Instead of telling shortly that turret engie is the current most OP and bullkitten class in conquest because of a) huge excess of CC/knockbacks; b) huge passive damage from AI (dont forget to take parrot and elite!); c) too much surviability for summoner class; you are make huge walls of unrelated bullkitten and demagogic teoricraft. Good job and I wish you luck with someone from a-net reading this.
I think longbow ele could be cool… RIGHT? .
Nah, not really. Actually it is hard to find more inapropriate weapon for ele.
Personally I would prefer rifle for extreme (1200-1500) range single target dd/cc (because rangers sucks and their pets suck twice), but that’s mostly because my ele is a charr and she is kinda looked down by catbros. If we even get something (20 skills, don’t forget) that would most probably be sword/torch and/or greatsword.
I would say even more, here is no “elite”, “competitive” or whatever pvp in gw2. Sohreey!
First, there is not even enough spvp players to form high pyramid of skill. Second, game seriously lacks sufficient depth both in class gameplay and (especially) teamplay. Thus compared to some other games “top” teams/players just marginally better that average guy, difference in amount of skill is very comparable to observational error. Third, the whole idea of gw2 is just anticompetitive, I guess you knew it when you signed your accounts, did you?
Some may take it as insult, but don’t have wrong expectations from casual game and don’t produce hate on this basis. The game is still quite fun and so is spvp! Just not in that way.
Rampager (these are teq stats’ aren’t they?) isn’t a good choice for ele, you will not have a role where bonus stats from ascended quality will outpower right combination from usual exotic (like berserk or pvt). So give it to your necro or something.
Clearly not as the 6 slot currently does nothing for ele’s
That’s mostly because ele doesn’t have weapon swaps. It doesn’t work for engie too, so you aren’t alone!
Air is more fun and better for mobility/
I have actually got 2 ascended rings and box with PVT ascended armour from pvp chests.
I would prefer something less random however.
Everyone asking for a nerf of strength runes does not understand that this runeset is the last thing that keeps pvp from being an all out condition war.
Rune of Strength benefits condition damage, too..
But condition builds doesn’t specialize on obtaining might. Bonus condi damage benefits classes in hybrid builds which are, you guess it, ele and warrior. No one however whines that warriors are OP, everyone got used to it. But when it comes to ele – urghhh, back to the thrash can!
I
if eles can easily swap ooc, then my mesmer should be able to swap to every single weapon even during combat.
Not in combat. but it would be nice to have saved weapon, armor and build presets to swap easily out of combat (and spvp). However [whine] GW2 UI is so god kitten FRIGGIN AWFUL STUB, especially parts related to combat and almost nothing was done to this in two years so I guess we are going to swap things from inventory, search for condition damage in combat log and burn eyes looking at asura’s animations until the very end. And we cannot even customize or do addons to fix it.[/whine]
Before talking about “OP” tell where ele can apply it OPness. Yes d/d ele now is quite well-rounded class wito decent ratings in everything, mobility, defence, damage, support (not without weaknesses however, remember that it doesn’t have any ranged capabilities, very vulnerable to chilling/immobilize/transform and really needs some space and LoS breakers to survive), but what are you going to do with that? We only have team pvp here, what role ele should take? Mid bunker? Guard is infinitely better. Off bunker? Turrets and spirits. Mid fighter? Warrior (actually warrior kinda the same, but in plate and with hilarious amounts of HP). Roamer? Thiefs, mesmers.
Basically there is no place to balanced characters in this game. It feels great, but gw2 pvp is all about abusing and stacking extremes. So if you get killed by ele in duel don’t run on forums to whine, think a bit.
And surely strength runes shouldn’t be nerfed because in that case we will completely fall in condibunker kitten. With turrets, pets and that parrot rune.
I have honestly no idea why people would prefer d/something over staff in pug high level fractals. With staff you have both high constant damage and cc/utility in case something goes wrong while being safe. Focus indeed provides some useful things, but there is no need in them except some rare encounters (fire shaman, cliffside stacking, dredges), while dagger is a big “why”. Mediocre close range weapon for a class that get downed from a gust of wind.
As for celestial, well, for staff is it strictly inferior to berserk. It may help if you want more defence, but I would suggest to use personal skill for that, it isn’t that hard to live in 50 fractals. For closer range you may want it, but why not leaving that close ranger for warriors?
Doesn’t make sense for me. First, this skill is more about single target, you can hit some other guys with it, but you probably won’t. Second, it has nice and distinctive mechanics and you propose to change it to another PBAoE with blast (ele doesn’t have enough blasts!). That would be very fun to play, PBAoE burning speed, then, PBAoE fire ring, then PBAoE “fire grab” with blast, than PBAoE water 3 with blast, then PBAoE earthquake with blast, then PBAoE arcane wave with blast (oh, at least it isn’t PBAoE now) – boring.
Grab is fine as it is, except bugger hitbox that need to be fixed someday.
Well, either you are doing into water or take ERenewal with something to cover it (rock solid, earth armor, etc). No other choices.
If by “water” you mean attunement then you can also try to trait cantrips, it will give you minor cleanse at will that helps again non-condition classes (warrior’s pin down, power necro fear etc)
Play charr.
I too started sPvP last night with a D/D elementalist
I’m a totally noob when it comes to PvP now, but one thing really got me and I wasn’t sure how to counter it: the thief.
There was this one theif that would find me anywhere when I was roaming, and I had almost zero time to respond. I started using Arcane shield hoping I could pop it as soon as I saw him to save myself, but that required super fast reaction speeds. He literally (and I mean the true definition of literally) could kill me within a single second. I had a bunker build 0/0/2/6/6 which some say was bad here, which is fine… but it should have been good for survival at least.
so… how does one prepare for the sneaky ultra dps thief? is it really just about training to maximize my reaction time to blow my dodges and blocks/invuln right away?
thanks in advance
Don’t use arcane shield anyway. The point of winning against theif isn’t to tank his damage, but to put your bursts/cc between his evadespam while evadespamming his bursts (which is done not really by reflexes, but rather predicting his moves, try to play a thief a bit, it helps). While doing that keep burning on thief and stack might and he will be dead from it surprisingly fast anyway.
And don’t also forget that 6/6 “bunker” build isn’t bunker because you can take damage damage, but because you can get back up quickly. So if you get hurt hard by opening go use your protections, water, lick a pillar a bit and heal back while keeping crippled/chilling on thief.
The only real problem is thief that focuses you midfight or s/d acrobat-assclown that will try to kite you and steal boons.
Not much people read forums, and even less will search for you apology here. You should better write them whisper. Or, actually, don’t do that, I don’t think they care about your sorries. -1
I guess that problem is in strange moral positioning of server advantages. Yes, deso has a huge blobs of semirandom players (due to strange decision of really cheap transfer prices and pre-megaserver pve trains) and high night coverage (as a night player myself I saw every day that after being pushed down deso gets all the bls at nights and gets back), while sfr has elitist tactics (dat notag commanders) and particular propensity to manipulate and coordinate other’s servers attack vectors (thought I’m a bit sad that sfr started to slack really hard at the end and haven’t pushed deso at 3rd place), but what is bad with that? From the criteria of winning games (the only objective criteria) it is good, and it isn’t unfun either, it is a thing that gives each server it’s personality.
ask yourself why you can’t start the stomp while shrank.
if it were intended then you’d be able to start the stomp while using them, i just think they forgot to make those skills cancel stomping.
Actually you can. Your argument is invalid.
Better tell me why stealthing cancels stomp. Body it still here, you know. All other channels work on stealthed targets if you used them before stealth was applied, why stomp doesn’t?
Maybe this is a bug, maybe it is time to stop that hilarious abusing of shadow refuge, a skill that is actually taken by everyone and belongs to top-tier pvp profession?
(edited by Arcturus.8109)
Same here.
Message Body length must at least be 15.
i did all bosses and all achievements including the 8 orb achievement with ranger last year when they first introduced the crown pavillion. dont say things that arent true.
Go ahead and make us a video of your ranger skills.
Liadri is terrible in terms of class balance. I’ve personally tried liadri a lot with my main, ele, I’ve tried different ideas and builds, different gears and tactics and still failed. Then I switched to my dire/rabid engie and killed her instantly without even changing skills and traits from generic pvp build. And I have like 50 time more time played on my ele. Gj a-net.
Then I gone for 8 orbs achievement and from all classes I have at 80 (ele, engie, warrior, necro) I feel that only warrior goes somewhere close to do it. For engie it might be possible with some great luck, others are just crap. “Yeah, you have no guard? Suck this”. Basically this boss is a direct spit in the face of all players who want to play whatever they want to play since if a-net want to do some hard content they don’t make it equally hard by offcetting weak in this content spots of all classes by their strong mechanics, they do it hard for meta, Teh Meleetrain. “Don’t want to play it? Lol, what a kitten, get lost”. Some funny rangers aren’t even get tested, I’m sure.
I think that tornado should be comparable to necro in plague form. So it is mostly about heavy boost to toughness and more effective active defences (not press stability button, kill).
And one more thing that confuses me it vulnerability to immobilize. It’s a wind, isn’t i?? How can you root it?
Get meatless with berserk strength d/d. Build 6-0-2-0-6 with standart pve choices in fire, standart pvp arcana traits and stone splinters. Skills are arcane brilliance (just for blast in the beginning), wave and blast, LF and fire elemental.
Tactic is just aoe bursting and might stacking + a bit of kite and LF to meat/updraft for dog if it going for meat first. After second meat dog dies almost instantly.
The only hard part here is to see that meat in all the spell effects
Did 5 gambits with engie on deadeye. Dire/rabid with balt runes, spvp grenadier build (can easily be found), grenades/tool kits and elixir S. all gambits apart from crowd favourite.
Just come to him, spam all the conditions from pistol 2 and grenades and stay there under blocks. When he teleports – use S, come to him and repeat (you can probably pull him with toolkit and take bombs insead for S then, haven’t tried). Very easy.
I think u have no idea what power creep is , exacly things like those runes are good example of it. U dont want condi bunkers? Now u have power bunkers with decent condi dmg yeah that much better.
Considering that #powercreep is something like favourite word on this particular forums and just thrown in every second post about balance I do know what it is, why it is unavoidable and will continue until mystical expansion or some total class overhaul. So I’m not going to aggro just on fact of #powercreep, but will actually welcome it when it really makes game better. In this case it did.
I won’t deny that rune of strength is strong, stronger than vast majority of runes (not all, however) but no way it should be nefred. Rune of strength is the nail that holds all the current balance together, and a lot of people think that current balance is best for a while. Remove it and it will severely hit power specs, once again remove ele from game and force everyone deep into condiebunkers. which I prefer to call kitten.
Yes, power it gives to a warrior is a bit too much, but that’s a warrior after all. Nothing new in that.
It isn’t like something was changed apart from some minor fixes. It’s just a changes in descriptions.
But
>Evasive Arcana: Fixed a bug that prevented this trait from working under water.
Yeah, just after they removed capricorn.
Well, thank you guys, I didn’t know that they allow to apply legendary skin with transmute. It is fine then, still sad that we cannot enjoy legendary visuals without legendary skins, but fine.
Hi guys. I think we all suffer greatly from peculiar style direction of legendaries and inability to at leas dye them. So I guess someone tried to transmute it into something decent and fitting to character’s image. What happens when you do it now, with new wardrobe system? Will it still have ability to change stats? Can it be turned back (I dont think there are transmutation splitters anymore). Will it still have it’s special effects (yeah, probably no)?
So then what in the hell should I be doing instead? You point out what I shouldn’t be doing so very well, but I’d really like some input on what I could be doing instead.
I’d also like to point out that I don’t know how that rotation is considered lazy. It’s a total of 13 buttons (counting attunement swaps) when a common rotation on another class is 3 or 4.
Well, you should learn your spells and arrange them thoughtfully in short, well timed and situational sequences. Parts of that big chain from previous post are nice examples of such sequences but it doesn’t mean that you must always use firegrab after burning speed after updraft or blast ring of fire with earthquake. Try to firegrab people while burning them with cleansing fire or blast burning speed’s firefield. A lot of possibilities actually.
I don’t even want to know what you consider a Thief or Warrior…
Well… lets leave it as it is.

I hate to be the guy who derails the OP-faceroll/not OP-faceroll train, but could someone explain the main strengths/weaknesses/combos of the current D/D ele? They seem to be a pain to fight, but that may just be because I don’t know what exactly to dodge/interrupt and when to unload condis onto them.
The main strength of d/d ele is that it is very well-ronded build, it has decent surviability against both condispam and direct damage paired with a lot of evades, has nice damage, decent mobility, CC and group support. Basically it is good in almost every situation you may encounter.
Weakness of d/d ele is that it doesn’t excel in anything (worse bunker that guardian, worse mobility than thief, worse burst that mesmer, worse all-around roamer than warrior, etc) so in/against team with specialized classes it may run into situation when it doesn’t have anything to do. Since all ele defences are active and boon-based it is also very weak to CC (in particular immobilize and chilling – for some unknown reason chilling increases CD of attunements) and boon stealing. Lazy eles also tends to use same rotations over and over again (ele have a lot of skills combined in complicated system so it can be hard to sustain enough concentration to use them all properly) and can be very predictable.
Edit: and yeah, d/d ele also lacks any ranger skills at all. Everything (apart from mobility skills and useless water autoattack) is ~400 range.
(edited by Arcturus.8109)
If you try to do rotations in PvP you are going to have a bad time
How else will I be might stacking and doing combos? Ele seems to have a pretty set rotation.
Ele doesn’t have a rotation. Unless you are that guy who does air4+air5 every time. You can chain some your skills if you want, but you can do it in numerous ways or don’t do at all if it isn’t effective. That’s the point of ele gameplay. If you want do to something like air4 air5 fire 3 fire5 fire4 earth4 earth2 water3 air1 and win you’re lazy and going to be punished by every experienced player.
D/D eles are strong again. If you consider it not viable in pvp, it is not the class that is lacking.
Not as viable as: Hambow, MM necro, spirit ranger, bunker guardian…
The fourms… Stop basing your thoughts on specs based on solo que.
As if there are some great and significant space in team team queue (ya’ know, not that team queue we all playing, team queue with actual teams) to define class usefulness. We all know how low and small com-pee-tee-tee-vee part of gw2’s pvp.
However even there d/d ele isn’t something really great and must have. It is just allowed to play at all now, first time for a while
I can not imagine a d/d ele without Armor and Cleansing fire. I thought the debate was between Flash and Mist Form
But you can image ele without blink? :O
All cantrips are good so that is more about personal preferences and tactical situation. I think a lot of people would like to have slot for 4rd cantrip instead of out poor elites.
Who uses mist form nowadays? It’s very weak.
It is the only way to survive being nuked while unable to use active defences. Not only a stomps (you can stomp people just inside group fight where you will be easily downed in that 3sec otherways), but also counter gangbang on immobilize/chilling which is one of the most weak spots of ele. For me it is better than armor of earth.
Oh look, guys that were just fine with worthless ele that dies from a glance and doesn’t really deal much damage finally began to notice some discomfort from it now!
No, guys, it was prior to new update that ele has only one viable build. It was really lame and cheese, but you called it “skilled” because while it could nuke you a bit you still had fun in instakilling it. Well hello there, now ele can really play something useful. Actually not only d/d is fine again, but staff eles do way better with new surviabity and scepter fresh airs utilize strength runes well.
For those who say that d/d ele is very forgiving and even facerolling class… well, apart from ele I also play condi engie, mesmer and warrior in different builds in wvw and spvp. None of those classes are less forgiving that ele, actually they are far safer to play. Due to poor ele’s hp, terrible armor and attunement mechanics just one well timed burst/immobilize/chill/condispam can reduce it to nothing. And surely they are more facerolling (PU is a definition of faceroll for me). As an ele you have to keep constant flow of skills and comboes choosing from large and complicated list and every mistake can easily means if not defeat then at least reset of the fight. That is why ele (and particularly d/d ele as most active and least clustered in skills weaponset) is the most fun class to play pvp in this game with only engie came ever close to it.
0/2/0/6/6 is the ‘best’ build. It includes EA, yes.
Although I have seen some top-level eles run 0/4/0/6/4 for dueling (the lightning strike helps in 1v1)
Do people in tournies really take Zephyr’s Boon over Earth’s Embrace? I personally prefer the 2 in Earth instead of 2 in air. It’s saved me a lot as I like to use the Armor of Earth Cantrip after Earth’s Embrace runs out and I still need some heavy protection.
I think that build had elemental shielding, not earth embrace. Embrace is kinda too random for me since ele’s hp fluctuates heavily, especially when I don’t use restoration signet.
Zephyr’s boon and elemental shielding is pretty the same, you have to choose between fury and swiftness and protection. I personally prefer the first since damage output of celestial ammy isn’t much inspiring even with might stacking. It is also helps a lot with kiting and overall field mobility (water 4 is mostly “swifthess button” for me, foe example)/

do you realise that evasive arcana is as bad in PvP as it is in PvE ?

Guys, I just moved from PvE to PvP
No doubts, thought I’m surprised that even very new play can call EA bad.
Berserker is better for lower-ranked games (and hothjoins) since you can outsmart your opponent with active defences, but becomes unreliable they higher you go. You will be caught in lock and you will not survive this. If you want a bit more damage – replace 2 in earth with 2 in air for permafury and crits. And dont forget that celestial also gives nice condi damage to your burning.
Bumped
Sorry if this seems as criticism but just a little note… I asked for this not to long ago on this forum as well and asking more politely will really get you much more luck on this request. It’s not so much about the gold for most of the people who would be willing to help The person who ended up helping me did not even expect money but i gave some gold out of gratitude.
Well, I see no real reason not to offer fair deal, it is now way reduces “helping” part, but makes clear “expected gratitude” (what a hypocrisy, really).
Actually for those who are fine with jumping puzzles this should give quite nice gold/time ratio.
Actually you can read them on wiki
wish i say your post 20 minutes before i sat there and swapped attunements lol, thanks
Wiki “attunement”And there’s a few words i got that wasn’t on the wiki, though they may be trait related?
Infuriating, invigorating, exhilarating, and in fire i got “I feel 6 feet tall” im an asura.
It is boon related, regen\might etc. You probably use trait from arcana that gives boon on attunement.
Actually you can read them on wiki
perhaps making it so that you leap THEN immob the enemies ).
Nope. It is like 80% of time this skill is used to keep someone away from you/point.
I don’t really care if it has a damage, it is a cc skill, not designed for killing.
But I do really want to see it faster (especially jump part) and not glitching every second use.
