So why “light” classes should have less surviability again? Do they have more damage or more range as mages in other games? Doesn’t seems so. An if you’ll play all the classes you didn’t played you’ll see that their defence is heavy based on active application of personal skill, not healing signet, tons of armor and hp and godmode stances. Bad ele is instantly dead ele, bad warrior is slightly different from good warrior.

6 earth can gain you: +10% damage within 600 range, +10% damage when endurance is full, +5% damage against bleeding targets, and 100% uptime of signet passive effects, even when you activate them.

i guess you’re right… not power friendly at all… nobody wants to do +25% damage with good positioning. pshaw!

The only trait that might be really taken and useful here is +10% damage within 600 (if you dont want to take protection from auras) Others are pretty useless (ele with full endurance? Anyone wants to take +5% bleeding instead of rock solid? How often can you keep bleeding on target? Signets? Really, signets?) and take the same slots. And don’t forget that you receive non-power stats from traitline itself.

If stone heard worked with lingering elements that would make really nice earth/water bunker build, but now it is a joke.

Yes indeed some classes indeed do more damage now due to new sigils and runes (warriors and eles are notable examples) but mesmer’s zoo is a whole other case. It might be still under effect of the bug that bug that was fixed on ranger’s and necro’s pet but wasn’t fixed on HoTM npcs. I hope this will noticed and fixed/explained by anet… some day.

From my PoV condition necroes became much bigger threat since patch. That’s the only class I don’t play from that list so I cannot say for sure why (except for nightmare runes, they are ridiculous), but it seems to be completely braindead condi/fear spam. Yes, this needs to be fixed. And yes it will not be fixed until new pvp rebalance patch somewhere in October.
Condiengie became stronger due to improved burning but it also feels much squishier since a lot of direct damage build were buffed It is also hardly countered by condi necro, so I think it is nice.
Warrior is still a warrior, nothing changed. Well, I think this need such class for people who wants to feel themselves cool, but don’t want to put any effort in that.
Ele is in better place now, but still far from being OP. Not being completely unviable isn’t enough to be viable, you know. Ele still lacks a role in fight. However traits and skill from the list have nothing to do with ele’s power. Diamond skin is bad, stone heart is even worse, signet of restoration doesn’t cover ele’s weaknesses (ele doesn’t have warrior’s armor and health pool to slowly recower with signet after burst) and written in stone is a joke since ele’s signets suck (I have no idea where do you see pople that play this trait).

Talking about fresh air – yes, it is cheesy. Not because of macroses or damage directionality, but because it relies solely on one feature – Teh Burst. Fresh air’s s/x arcana burst is pretty much instant and untelegraphed so it is very cheap but powerful move. You either hit with pressallthebuttons move and win or miss and lose. Basically this is a definition of “cheese” as it used in games.

It happens when all the official servers are full, and then it will drop players into any custom server that has Progression Enabled. If you don’t want to put a password on, then disable Progression

And what do you mean “full”? Because of turning hj servers to 5×5 without reducing their full capacity most of official servers are at 10/20 now. So it just inserts you into official server as spectator.
Thats why I stopped using “play now” button. Now you must join server, check if game there close co conclusion, if yes – stay until the end and join as a player next game (if you are fast enough, so no afk for you). Very, very quick jump into pvp.

I would say that diamond skin is badly designed trait IF there were no even worse designed facerolling condi necros (and, by lesser extent engies). Redesign THEM, make THEM think about their conditions, when to apply them and where to use their skill, then we’ll talk.
So yes, DS is a hard counter, but it existence is fully justified. It isn’t really powerful trait for ele builds, but while it humiliates “press X to apply all the conditions” necros – I’m fine with it.

To say it honest spvp now is just a minigame, something like southsun survival. You can play gw2 as a session game without even coming out to the big world, but don’t expect to get something really special that way.

I feel that arcana is a must. Don’t forget that EA isn’t only userful for defence, but also great for offensive purposes and synergies perfectly with permavigor. I don’t think that there is anything really worth giving up an ability to do aoe burn (suprisinly useful with celestial and might stacking), aoe heal+condi removal, blind and aoe cripple. Without this not just dodges feel aimless compelled waste of time, whole d/d gameplay fees half-empty.
Same for elemental attunement, it is a huge boon machine that helps poor ele’s stats greatly. Do you really want to play without that swiftness or protection? Might and regen are great too, and all this you get at once.
And permavigor is really important for d/d since d/d ele without dodges is instantly dead ele.

Surely you can play d/d without points in arcana, but it would be just a wreck, the most
prominent part of such build would be an absence of arcana. “Look, no hands!”

If you have a problem with the damage you are taking from a thief’s largest possible burst, it’s a problem you created for yourself with your trait and gear choice.

So it is fine when one class disables wide array of builds not even by being able to outplay them, but just by abusing broken mechanics and pressing 1?
Great game design decision I guess. Okay, lets all reroll warriors, there nothing can be done here.

If you are talking about purely glass vs glass instead of overall survivability, thieves have no sustainable 1200, 900+ range burst and are required to get in 600 range of the target for medium to high damage. Eles don’t.

Actually they do. Firegrab is melee skill, fire nova is melee skill, phoenix has very slow travel time etc. And eles like all othe glass cannon classes (maybe a bit more but this is just a part of traditional ele’s suckness) need to get initiative in fight, need to chain a lot of spells (allowing counterplay) for burst and need to defend themselves between bursts. For some kind of d/p thief it is easy: 5-2-1. 5-target is still alive?-2, else f. GG NO RE K THX.
That’s exactly a problem with “glass cannon” thieves, they aren’t really glass due to uncounterable, dumb, overpowered defensive mechanics.

Why do you use sigil of energy? For me permaswiftness is fine to do you whatever I want to do and still have some dodge for spare. Isn’t it better to use bloodlust to compensate non-berserk ammy?
I also have doubts about signet. D/d ele already have nice sustain but kinda susceptible to bursts, isn’t it better to use glyph to quickly come back to decent heath and get some nice protection/regen/might? Risky, surely, but still. As far as I tried even renewal feels better that signet,

I have no problems with unlocks (though I haven’t done Arah yet), but I have another problem: for some reason my paths stopped progressing, at least on non-ranked servers, no matter what path or char I use.
Is there some kind of day limit or is it a bug?

“spammed 3” are you talking about s/p thieves? those are annoying for a few classes, not just elementalist so I fail to see your point.

Not exactly s/p or s/d thieves but rather sustained damage pressure. I’m not going to talk about other classes on ele forum, but staff ele is completely disabled by this and new earth trait will not help it in any way.

Now a glass support ele has plenty of ways to remove conditions, to AoE heal, to AoE cc/snare and to do some damage on top of it. If you can’t survive one thief with a cleric staff ele, that is a L2P issue. You can probably hold on your own 1v2 (not as well as a guardian, though) but you will shine in a team fight !
Now indeed, it can’t do much against decap engis but ele can at least be a very good support, having +25% outgoing heal for allies is priceless if the ennemy team doesn’t use conditions. It can play the support role at mid just fine, perhaps not better than guardian but we shall have to see.

Unlike guardian staff ele will always be focused and killed first (and quite fast) in team fights. What’s a point in giving it a “support” role, who will take it instead of guardian? And yes, you have to choose between direct heal and condi removal (that becomes a trend in ele’s traits) so you can confidently divide expected ele’s effectiveness by 2.

Sound more like I found “OP” in thread’s title. Oh, yes, maybe staff ele will be in a bit better position after patch (promoted from “mediocre” to “sub-decent”) but I still cannot see anything OP about it, no roles where it will be “overpowered” or at least as good as current leaders.

So yes, there is a joke : it’s your lack of understanding.

Yes I don’t realise what “great possibilities” new traits will give to ele.
Earth trait can help you resist burst from something like thief. One burst. Or you can even cast shower with rock solid and this, that’s great! But what’s next? You will be bursted again. Or just spammed 3. And staff ele still doesn’t have stats or skills to effectively survive that, not ot say about 1v2 or 1v3 fights. And such ele still cannot do anything to decapper engies. So this will be an OP bunker? Better that guardian? As a joke such assumption is fine, no doubts.
Water trait is just a crap and doesn’t worth abandoning cleansing waters. It just doesn’t fit in current team tactics.

Actually you will continue to fly towards target during this “aftercast”, so it is fine when target trying to disengage and uses some another movement skill.
But yes, for some reason projectile from skill misses very often. Maybe some day this will be fixed. Just like fire grab.

Try to look at videos about other classes. Surely you may feel yourself good in wvw roaming since 80% fights are against servername Assaulter or upleveled zrgling, but when you meet real and atleast halfbad wvw dedicated player you’ll know ele’s place in universe.
At least you always have your fgs to run away (if not killed outright by thief – and there are a lot of thieves in wvw), thats good enough, right?

That depends on what do you want from ele. If you want pve you’ll get your nice damage and it doesn’t really matters what race you’ll choose (take what you like) and you’ll have to learn and switch all your weapons anyway.
If you want to play wvw then you’ll get nice damage and support in zergs with staff, race is irrelevant too.
In small scale wvw and spvp ele plainly sucks. And 15.04 will not change that. Dont listen those who say that it is a “powerful class with high learning curve”, while it IS hard to learn it doesn’t reward in any way.

obviously if you crit 10 consecutive times with 11% critchance then crit chance dont matter coz you know something is broken. same goes to rank and MMR/ leaderboard its broken! FUBAR! hence making it not a reason for basing level of skills.

Wow… No, in that case I know that I was just lucky and the more hits I will do the closer to 11% will be my actual crit percentage. Same with rank and mmr, it might be wrong in some rare cases but generally it is right.

The titles will get adjusted to the rank points you have earned, so you can continue playing, and will not loose anything.

According to anet they hae already fixed that… like 3 months ago. When they were asked why they aren’t implementing this fix thread was closed.

Oh, yes, ele sucks, but look at the great traits you get in Teh Feature Patch! Just look!
- Fire trait that has global CD on blind, not per target!
- Water trait that doesn’t affect you healing to yourself!
- Earth trait that doesn’t work with lingering elements!
- Arcana trait that has global cd of 10 sec (not per attunement) on laughable boons!
- AIr trait that deals mediocre damage and applies 4 sec of weakness with already very rare ele’s interrups!
Look how cool all this stuff is! #eleapocalypse! No +1000 healing power or -50% damage can be compared to these avatars of superior defence on your 10800 hp/900 toughness juggernaut! Hooray to a-net, good yob!

Just delete ele already or play it only in pve/wvw.

While I definitely agree with you… What about this scenario would keep SoloQ from essentially being hotjoin? The mentality would essentially become parallel to hotjoin with no consequence for losing.

Hotjoin features such things as maximum player capacity of 16 (on small gw2 maps this is zergfest), ability to choose team (if at the beginning of the game blue has 10 lvl player and read has 45 – be sure game will end as 200:500, every experienced player will go into second team), ability to switch teams and ragequit w/o dishonarable debuff, games that start without full teams, skyhammer and capricorn and much. much more.
The only part of “hotjoin mentality” that comes from the absence of ranking is people using fun builds and being much less stressed and agressive. But is that bad?

I think the answer is pretty clear – just admit mistake and remove rankings from soloQ already. They are meaningless anyway. Make mmr restrictions much more free, maybe tone reward down a bit and this will be the nice training mode for real team queue.
Idea of separating team and solo queues in team-based mode just doesn’t work.

How to get into the leaderboard

In soloQ cheese build>luck with team composition (you want to have cheese builds in your team too)>any skill above basic map understanding.
So basically leaderboards shows not how good, but rather how warrior\engie you are.

So, I’ve seen a few mentions of having to be able to easily / consistently win 1v2. I can’t do that.
Now it’s quite likely I’m just that bad. But on the tiny chance that it’s the class I’m most often running (Ranger), my question is what build are you running that can consistently win 1v2?

Ranger’s cheese is a spirit build. It isn’t that much 1v2 build, more about team support and bunking, but if you won’t be able to win 1v2 you’ll definitely wont loose.
Or try something like condi warrior or prismatic mesmer and enjoy people struggling and dying against you casually clicking few buttons.

This mode serves no purpose in sPvP other than completely misdirecting Newcomers who are exploring PVP for the first time. Zergjoin pretty much encapsulates everything that should not be done in a tourney.
Why not have an arena where people can queue in for deathmatches instead?

Yup, new players should know from the very start the pleasure of being owned by braindead decap engies, warrior teams, bunkers and skyhammer warriors. Playing meta – or not playing at all! Eles and rangers – leave the hall! (Well, not that spirit bullkittens).
Current state of “compe-tee-tee-wee” spvp in gw2 is horrible. Personally I dropped it (just playing from time to time to keep ~500 in meanless scoreboards), and if I want to have at least some fun with spvp – I’m going to hotjoin and custom servers. At least there you can find something interesting and unusual (and play something interesting and unusual w/o instantly being destroyed by “meta” cool guys).

Just the crit portion, it would be insanely broken if you took no direct damage in Earth when ever you were crit hit. I am guessing the Crit Damage portion is not added.

So say:

1,000 = Normal damage
2,000 = Crit damage

You would take 1,000damage rather than 2,000.

There is a big difference between not getting crit damage and not being crit at all. Thee difference is onCrit procs.
So against you enemy will have 0% critchance.

The more important question is: will lingering elements work with it? If it will then there is a chance to use this trait in some build, if not – gg wp anet. I’d really like to see answer to this question from some red-tagged guy, but knowing how many kitten were given to ele problems I have no hope.

I’ve waited for this patch to resume to play spvp (small, but stable buffs looked nice) but now I’m completely desperate.
With all that buffs to condition and bunkering ele gets basically nothing. Fire is somehow fine but ele with 30 in fire is still a free kill w/o real means to kill anything.
We haven’t got any options for sustain (like 1000 healing power for mesmers or 1000 toughness on warriors, they need it), we still cannot play condi and our damage gets indirectly nerfed.

Is there anything I’ve missed or is it time to completely reroll out of this graveyard?

Almost completely means there’s some out there. And if they can do it, it means it can be done. And if it can be done, then it’s very much an issue of player skill. Because there’s at least 1 guy that CAN do it.

No, that only means that those people are good enough… wait, no, their teams as whole are good enough (compared to other teams) to do something with ele. It doesn’t means that at some mystical skill level ele may ascend to meta heaven or that someone knows secret how to make ele viable. Ele sucks, dont hide it behind mythical “skill curve”.

But still it is really fun to play, especially d/d.
