Well, first of all, ofc we feel cheated, the game lacked in content for so long and still we tried to ignore it and focus on our love for the game and for what would come next. We invited our friends to the game and insisted that they played. We spent our money on gems, even if we had the gold to convert to it.
We dont even know all that’s coming in this expansion. We might pay $50 dollars for some hours of content(we dont even know if the 3 maps and the dungeon are enjoyable/worth it). I paid $60 for the whole game. I really cant see the bright side.
However, what really hurts, is the disregard with ppl like me, that lives abroad. I am brazilian, and our currency is “real”. 1 Brazil real(BRL)=0.320343 U.S. dollars. What means I would have to pay 150BRL to an expansion that might not add much to the game. Also, dont forget that we receive much less from our jobs and we pay more taxes.
In short, I can afford the expansion, but I wont. I seriously prefer spending my money on the SummerSale. Steam does convert their prices to BRL before selling(if the game costs 20dollars at the US, it will cost 20BRL here) and I would love to see ANet doing something like that, but I guess they sometimes forget there is ppl playing their game all around the world.

K, so I made my Twilight early last year and then I stopped playing GW2, cause anet implemented champ bag loots and then gold was too easy to get, etc. Now I am back, and with my savings and a little work I can make a Sunrise. The problem, and another reason I quit gw2, is that I equipped my legendary in my ranger[and rangers were awful, and never got a buff(situation may be different now, not sure)]. If I make a Eternity, I want to know if it will be account bound, so I would use it on a warrior.

So, twilight soulbound, when turned into Eternity, will it be account bound?

K, just to start, ranger is my main and only class, I play it since the start, and I just hate all the nerfs we get, over and over. Rangers are weak, and need an overall buff. BUT, I saw this video(uploaded by Brazil), and I found it really interesting, and kitten bersekers warriors! That build doesnt affect me, cause currently I just play wvw, and being a commander, I need high survival, which means I cant use this build. But if anyone is interested:

Very well written. I hope for 2 things: a overall OP buff; or, unfortunately, account bound legendaries(then I would get my Twilight that is attached to my ranger, and probably put it in a warrior, then I would get all the gold I have and do another legendary, that will work well with my build and will add more effects to my char. And then no one would target me before just cause I am a “easy target”.

How nice… Another nerf disguised as a little buff. Cool. Too bad we dont have any GM playing ranger after Robert Hrouda left GW2. I guess we still have a chance of getting a great buff, when ESO launchs and all ranger’s players move to there. Maybe they will realize all the crap they made and buff us to get us back. Who knows. I will keep playing other games till there.

1) BM rangers where OP, end of story. I specked BM for fun and facerolled 1 v 3 in WvW, without actually knowing what I am doing.
The nerf on Pets was needed, they were just too strong.
The Jaguars base damage wasn’T even reduced, just his F2 got a nerf and I can live with that!

2) Other Non-Pet focused builds got buffed with offhand Axe and LB damage increase
The spirit tree buffs offer some great choices for GS Warriors with Frost Spirit support (believe it or not, this build already was strong in sPVP)
Offhand Axe buff is just awesome, I was running Sw/Axe already and now I can rock even more – thanks ANet!
The Longbow buff was needed and we will see how much damage increase there will actually be. I expect not too much but still a noticable improvement.

3) SB nerf. The only thing I don’t get, but since everybody was running shortbow (if not BM specced) I can understand it somehow.

4)Trait Changes
Imho very good stuff. Some more tweeking for Signet Ranger required, but it got a lot better.
Healing on Shouts sounds fun, I will defenetly try this out.
This could become one of the best Bunker builds GW2 has seen.

TL;DR: Am I seriously the only one who thinks, the (leaked) Patch notes are a good thing for us? ANet offered 2-3 more viable builds with this by slightly nerfing the BM Bunker.

I am an old GW1 vet, had like 1000+ hours on a Ranger…so i figured it was time for a new class going into GW2.

I chose the Thief, and by no means was I disappointed. Very fast paced, always on your toes. On top of that, you look like a kitten flipping around Yoda style.

Yet I have come to a crossroads with my thief on stuff to do, so it is time for an alt.

I would like a trip down memory lane, so I have leveled the two classes that I am interested in to 20, one being ranger, one being warrior. Since my Thief is a condition build, I would like a Power/Precision build this time around. Both Shortbow Rangers, and GS Warriors are very good at this.

So I leveled both of them to 20.

The ranger was fun and I felt like I was strong as hell, but I am not so sure i like the auto attack spamming, while putting spirits down whenever they come off CD. The 2 skill is a condition skill, the 3 skill is an evade, and the 5 skill is CC, so the only one I felt the need to keep on CD was the 4 skill. It seems a little boring. I also do not like seeing my pet go down if something other than a regular mob stares at it, actually im gonna be blunt and say i hate the pet mechanic altogether since i didn’t use it in GW1.

Is auto attack spamming with a shortbow while putting spirits down and hitting the 4 skill basically what I’m gonna be doing when I ding 80, with the occasional Rage as One elite skill when i need it?

There’s usually not much reason to kite PvE mobs. Use a greatsword, swoop in, switch pets for 2 sec quickness, drop a flame trap, maybe a maul and then everything is dead.

For veterans have quickening zephyr equiped and they will drop fast.

Quickness with the greatsword is just fantastic.

Have an axe with warhorn or torch as your other weapon set in case you do get yourself into trouble and need to create some distance.

“Quickness with the greatsword is just fantastic.” I wonder why you say that, if it actually makes your “window” to evade tinier than it really is.
I really prefer shortbow, but longbow is great do deal with mobs. Just use your pet to tank(yes, it works with normal and low level mobs) and if the mob get closer to you, use your knockback skill. Damage of the longbow increases with the range, so attack from far. Use 3 and 2 always, and 5 to large groups or to slow down mobs coming for you.

I do pretty well as an engineer in PvP… that being said i’m 100% bunker. using water fields and explosions for additional regen… it was pretty much a pick up and play class for me. i just wish they were more mobile.

My ranger beats most guardians in sPvP, and even when i’m doing a pure melee survival build. a tanky trapper ranger is a good counter to most bunker types.

Edit: in WvWvW most people run dps builds. so a knights+condition gems set is a good balance to counter most people. playing ranger isn’t terrible but definitely does make you want for more (I use all weapon types in WvWvW, and my build allows to change and be effective for every weapon type – I play generally balanced – and i really don’t believe in optimization but increasing utility)

Yea, actually I always end up in first in my games as ranger dps. Its good, but I wanted a greatsword/shortbow dps build. Wont be so effective, this is what bugs me.

Well, we can do REALLY good dps, you just wont see as big of numbers as you will from other profs because not only do we have a pet, but ranger also deals their damage through a storm of smaller attacks instead of a handful of really big attacks.

That being said, I prefer being more bunker, but then again i prefer being more support/being eternal (never dying) than i do killing things.

We can do both, and if you want to reap the rewards of berserker you’ll probably wanna use something more like sword/axe (or war horn) for your damage instead of a ranged weapon because ranged weapons will NEVER deal as much damage as a melee weapon. That being said, longbow GC are also extremely powerful, but atm lack defense, so once that gap is closed you’re pretty much screwed.

good question. There is some, always with sword/dagger. Its good, like, evade all the way, but dunno if it matches a berseker warrior(ofc it doesnt lol, its just so unfair). I would like to see a gs berseker build, which I believe cannot be done, cause gs just sucks in damage.

I play my ranger exclusively (I really don’t like alts), and while I do fine in dungeons I do get the feeling that we don’t really bring anything to groups. Our dps is lacking, pets are just useless (either you have problems with f2s working, cough wolves cough, they die before they can do anything, or a combination of the two), our support specs don’t really help either…

One thing I can say though, is that I do prefer the aesthetics of the ranger skills over all the other classes and the feel of the ranger skills is definitely good (I just wish you could use dodge to cancel out of sword 1…).

Well, to answer your question a bit more directly; we bring nothing to dungeon runs that isn’t sub-par and done better by another class. I mean you won’t really ever hear “Prefer a ranger” in looking for group messages…

If you think the damage sucks, don’t play Necro… Ranger greatsword not only out DPSes Necro’s strongest weapon (Dagger) but also cleaves, which is something necros miss out on.

Medium armour is still better than all the light armoured classes (Not accounting for other class based defences)

Also, learn to build your character if you believe Rangers have no defence.
50% Endurance regen passively as a 5 point trait, protection on dodge as a 15 point trait for example.

Combine that with the fact that GS will evade on every third auto-attack, can leap out of danger with #3, can block and then knockback an enemy with #4 (Most likely interrupting them) and can outright stun with #5.

Then of course if you really wanted to you could carry around Sword/Dagger combo for an extra 4 evades (Hornet Sting/Monarchs Leap on 8 second base cooldown, Serpent’s Strike on a 15 second base cooldown and Stalker’s Strike on a 10 second base cooldown)

You think you are right, comparing two underpowered professions. Geez. Rangers, necro and engi are the professions that need buffs, we all know this. Make a comparison to a most powerful profession, like guard or warrior. You think that a guardian doesnt have much attack? It can be a glass canon, but its have op buffs and high def/hp. Warriors same. And your build sword/dagger can be taken out by a simple berseker short bow ranger. Got my point?
You guys think I am trolling, or some thing like that. But just think. Pets are dead in 70% of the cases(even if you use drake or ranged), and greatsword barely touches the enemy.

Now if its not painstakingly obvious to some people, the GS is a GTFO of danger weapon.

If you take the entire class into focus and not just the weapon you will see that Rangers have incredible ranged damage and relatively crappy melee. The GS is the weapon that allows you to run away from melee very effectively.

GS 4 blocks melee attacks and interrupts allowing for a hastey retreat with GS 3. Hell, GS 3 without auto target will get you out of any combat situation. Combined with extra speed for carrying a melee weapon, you are pretty much home free if you have condition removers to remove those pesky rooting skills. The Cooldowns are also very low for such an effective single target control weapon (block knockdown and stun plus evade every 3 swings)

You are also not looking at what you can do with this class in its entirety. Advanced kiting. Shoot from ranged inflict stupid amounts of damage. If they get close, run away. GS3 your escape mechanic right there. When enough distance is made, turn around and shoot. All this whilst your pet is chasing your enemy (hopefully you have picked the speed traits for your pet so then can run faster than your enemy as your enemy will be running in a straight line after you) Your pet will also be hitting them now and again chipping away at their HP if not actually crippling them and making them move slower.

Now here is the other aspect of the ranger melee which funnily enough I used last nit in WvW to face tank a warrior and totally destroy him. Signet of stone is a 6 second invurnerability. “Protect me” is a second health bar. so in total you have about 12 seconds of you not getting any damage what so ever. You also have an elite which gives you stability and swiftness for 20 seconds. To put it bluntly, you cant be hurt you cant be CC’d for at least 10 seconds. This is enough time to kill anyone, burst or not.

There are viable ways to play the class using what we are given. Numbers means nothing is other mechanics are not factored in.

GS for Warriors = DPS weapon
GS for Guardians = DPS weapon
GS for Mesmer = AoE/Utility and long range DPS weapon
GS for Ranger = Defensive/utility weapon (Evade on #1, leap on #3, knockback + block on #4 and Stun/Daze on #5)

If a Ranger did the same damage as a Guardian/Warrior with a greatsword with pet damage on top of that… Well, it’d cause some issues with balance, not only due to the high damage that would be achievable but also with the defensive nature (Imagine what it’d be like to face a Zerker Guardian DPS but that also evades every 3rd hit) of the weapon.

As far as it goes, if you want to melee DPS as a Ranger they have a perfectly good Sword that is designed for just that (It does about 50% more DPS than Greatsword currently), also Greatsword is getting buffed in the next patch.

I am pretty sure you didnt play 20 hours with your ranger. It doesnt matter if it is a defensive weapon. The damage sucks. Sucks badly. And the “defensive” weapon, doesnt work that good if, as Eden said, we are medium armored, with no defense, do damage that much. Doesnt matter what you state. GS is underpowered. And the super “patch” that they told to us, will be a mini buff to maul.

Men, great post. Hope a dev sees this.

Greatswords needs buffs. They should stop nerfing rangers. Talk about it.

Hold off until you see the changes. Honestly, if you have a guardian or warrior, I seriously doubt anything they do to the ranger GS will make it competitive with their weapons, let alone better. Regardless of what happens in the near future, you’re probably better off giving the sword to a warrior.

I tried to use war and guard., and…I dont know, guard is definitely not my thing…Warrior I didnt like much too.
And, I plan to do a glass canon build, and using dusk I see that I can survive for long…And in a big zerg in wvw wont make much difference the dmg I do(getting commander too)…so who knows…I just think that Anet dont care at all for rangers.

As far as I know, during the ranger segment of an interview with the devs (State of the Game, hosted by GW2guru) they mentioned a buff to Maul.

Whether that’s the entirety of the changes nobody really knows. I think you can expect the changes to be in the next patch though, along with all the specific details. (Due around the 26th of March, I think?)

I hope so, wont have until there, and need to make my decision…Cause gs damage is underpowered.

Humble advise to everyone that plans on getting dusk: use the mystic forge. Just keep flushing exotics… it seems rough but the prices are unacceptable if i was you i’d screw the other players and just try my luck ^^

They go up in price if the precursor goes too. Just watch the prices, rares GS were 30silver, 35 maybe. Now, 50silver each.

Quite frankly if someone has the kind of money to be fiddling with flipping precursors they could do a much higher return in other areas. Goofing around with buying precursors for 600g to put them up for 800g (680g back to them, after the 15% cut) and being undercut 15 times with having to relist being almost a certainty…not exactly a prime way to use your money.

i5’s are dual cores with hyperthreading enabled. Hyperthreading takes a physical core, and makes it into two logical cores. It’s a technology Intel has been using since early 2002 and helps with multi-tasking. Your temperatures are perfectly normal under load.

I opened the temp checker when I was having lag issues, and both cores were in 72~75º celsius. So, I guess this is the problem?

The thing is that we are all tired of promises…Scavenger hunt, mounts, NO FRIGGIN LAG, precursors cheaper, no grinding(I actually like this, but you promised that we wouldnt have it), and etc etc etc

Selling all that I have to sell, I would have almost 630 gold(have 530 in hands)…Need some clovers, runestones, and some onyx lodes too(twilight). And the precursor, of course. I am a ranger, going for the GS, cause mostly of the legendarys, or look lame, or are too tiny, so no one can see it.

The funny thing is that if I alt+tab for some secs, I get no lag in the game for some secs. Makes sense?
