Keeps and garrisons or even your 1/3rd in a map should be PPT.
Everything else should be points for captures.
All kills should give 1 point each without bloodlust.
While it won’t fix everything, it’s certainly better than what we have now.
They need to give mercenaries more use, and better upgrades for the guards/lords.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
The problem with killing the mobs, the respawn rates are so insane in some locations that by the time you kill a group, the one behind it respawned and reaggroed. The tower was badly designed.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Are you sure it didn’t count? there’s two diving achievements. One awards you for jumping from the one outside the last instance. The other one is accessed through a portla inside the last instance.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
What’s funny that it was harder to get to the top than it was to fight the last boss. Kind of mind boggling how much of a chore that trek up to the top was (outside of a zerg it was next to impossible)
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
ITT, we learn that if it’s broke, don’t fix it because someone likes the broken mechanics…. that’s just hilarious.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
I’d be happy if they just returned the shortbow range and put crossfire back before they lied about the attack speed change “fixing an animation bug” and later admitting that they didn’t want people spamming 1. Psh.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Love it when people claim that rangers are not a ranged class when anet clearly says they are. The fact that people are still repeating that tired nonsense is nothing short of amazing.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Wilderness 5 Natural Vigor. Reduced the increased endurance regeneration from 50% to 25%.
This really ruins it for me. Again a big nerf out of nowhere.
Let me add it to the list:
- endurance regen nerfed from 50% to 25%
- Healing Spring no longer gives vigor each tick and water field duration reduced
- shortbow nerfed from 1200 to 900 range
- damage skills from many pets reduced by 50%
- pet leash range reduced drastically
- “Search & Rescue” can’t revive dead players anymore
- quickness on pet swap moved from Minor Adept to Major Grandmaster (swapped with worthless trait)
- “Guard” no longer works up or down ledges
- “Signet of the Beastmaster” moved from Adept to Grandmaster.I probably missed some.
Other unsesolved issues:
- Guard is a shout, but has a 1 second cast time
- Nearly all AoE attacks hit 3 targets instead of 5
- Require grandmaster traits to make signets, shouts, traps and spirits useful.
- Require grandmaster trait to have relatively useful condition removal.
- “Sic ’em” gets cancelled if the pet is told to activate another skill or told to change target.
- Signet of Renewal fails if pet is out of range.
- a healing skill (Healing Spring) is the only reliable on-demand condition removal rangers have.
- pets f2 often doesn’t activate or very late.
- sword auto-attack has too many leaps and makes the character feel out of control and prevents dodging.
- shortbow auto-attack bleed requires a flank.
- longbow Barrage too long cooldown.
- longbow requires to spend 50 trait points to get its basic traits (20% cooldown, piercing arrows, 1500 range)
- skirmishing has too many bad traits. If these were fixed/changed we might actually be getting somewhere with this class.
I missed this post… looking at all of these ridiculous nerfs in one spot really illustrates the disconnect between players and developers. It’s kind of sad to see such drastic changes to a class that’s always under performed compared to other classes. I cannot even begin to grasp their thought process with some of these changes.
You pretty much nailed it. But I do not expect them to address any of this.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Trench coats are the least of ranger problems.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
If the devs can merge Two Handed Training with Martial Mastery and move it to Skirmishing, replacing Quick Draw which is merged with Piercing Arrows, it would be truly great.
Won’t ever happen though.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
And what do you contribute with your gs frontline, that you can’t when playing periphery?
Cannon fodder.

Low hanging fruit strategy for over a year… When do we go after the higher fruits?
I think they’re waiting for the fruit to fall off the tree before they make any effort.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Always warms the kittenles of my heart when I see people complaining about neglected class forums. Imagine if you were treated like Rangers. Today is the first day I’ve seen actual red posts in a long time, not that any of the discussions taking place are really going anywhere.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Another point to make on ranger skills for future developer refining ( hopefully). Traps are a viable playstyle but are not commonly used due to several factors
1 -why are trap traits in the precision tree?, would they not be better placed in the condition damage trait line?
The common problem is ranger skills have no synergy to the skills they are supposed to reflect, oakheart salve for example in the conditions line… ? Why?
It just seems all over the place, would this not be better placed in the vitality line for instance ?I digress slightly… traps also are an issue as they are not influenced in any way from traiting, apart from a 30 point skill to improve the duration of conditions . Traps should reflect the level of conditions traited into the line, just now it makes no difference to actual collective condition or duration damage on stats.
I have to say traps are far from useless in a theoretical playstyle, but unless condition damage on them are influenced by stats, then traps will always remain as a less used option ( simply because they don’t do enough damage ).
Don’t forget the issues with condition damage not scaling with other stats, where as power builds have 3 stats to build from. And the other issue is the condition cap and how rangers get the short end of the stick in that department. Trap rangers are useless in group settings with other condition users.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
GW2 isn’t supposed to be about grinding or farming, so this change is a positive step to help move away from that.
Have you been under a rock this last year? GW2 is most definitely about grinding or farming and RNG.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Is anyone still getting “Obstructed” on flat terrains? I’m getting more of it when theres more players together. I dont know if its friendlys or my pet thats blocking my arrows. I’d like this to get fixed.
This has been an issue since day 1. Who knows at this point.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
I don’t buy the reason for the nerf to begin with. How is 50% endurance regeneration (which doesn’t stack with vigor) for a class that is designed to have a lot of evades viewed as overpowered? Heck, guardians get a 5 point trait that gives 5 seconds of vigor on a critical hit (5 second cool-down) and that’s not being changed.
Screw our 50% passive regeneration, just give us the one guardian’s have since permanent vigor for 5 points apparently isn’t overpowered!
I don’t buy it either. It’s funny that you bring up guardians because they used engineers as an example of why it’s over powered…. yeah I’m still laughing.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Why?
No seriously. Why if the SB is one of the top 3 ranger weapons does it need more love at this stage?
Now, if you mean we need a new SB legendary, I can agree. Any self-respecting ranger that flounces around with a pony-shooting set of butterfly wings should re-roll mesmer.
Being the top 3 amongst weapons that are lackluster and obsolete in some cases doesn’t say much for the shortbow. They need to bring back the original range and return crossfire back to what it was before they “fixed an animation” while in reality nerfing the damage output because they felt spamming “1” didn’t fit their idea of how the ranger should be played.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
The primary ranged weapons are not a mix of aoe and single target. They are 99% single target with a single long cd, low impact AoE. You can’t honestly call poison spread aoe with its miserable damage, and the same goes for barrage with a long cd and low damage compared to warrior longbow or ele staff.
Nailed it. This needs to be addressed, ranger ranged AOE is pretty terrible and shortbow poison spread requires you to be literally in melee range to even be considered an AOE. Barrage for the longbow is on such a long cooldown, even when you spec for the cooldown reduction (which btw is another issue) Our only other AOE is traps, but if you spec for traps you pretty much ruin your ranged attacks. This is one of my major issues with the rangers outside of how they’ve pretty much ignored pet issues.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
They need to up the range and return crossfire back before they lied about the change.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
It’s clearly outworld. Tyria is in danger of losing their 10th tournament and the greatest warriors need to band together and defeat Shao Khan.
Explains all those “Finish Them” messages!
See? it all adds up.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
I’m questioning just how collaborative all these changes are when we bring up so so very many suggestions on the forums just to have one voice tell us how it’s not going to happen because it goes against some vision.
That’s the way I feel; no ill-harm meant to anyone. The whole process just seems so inflexible and predetermined.
Same song and dance that we’ve always seen from Anet. They act like they’re listening, but nothing we say really reflects on the changes they’ve posted.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Has the dev team come clean yet on why they left out the change for www? where it’s actually needed? or is just another drop in the ocean of bad ideas?
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
How is natural vigor even remotely over powered?
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
It’s clearly outworld. Tyria is in danger of losing their 10th tournament and the greatest warriors need to band together and defeat Shao Khan.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
This bug just hit me. Glad to see that I’m not alone.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Serious question: Why does Anet ask for opinions and comments, when all they are going to do is what they proposed in the first place? I can’t recall a time where they posted proposed changes, and things were actually changed/modified, based on the player’s input.
I’m sure there were a couple small things, but I’m referring to balance changes, not QoL improvements and things of that nature that were changed, based on input.
I just look at the posted changes now, and figure those are going to be the changes to expect on the date given. All we are getting, imo, is the illusion of making a difference.
It’s just as you said. It’s an illusion so they can say “See, we’re listening”
I love it when game companies say patch notes are “draft” or “incomplete” or “not set in stone” it just warms the <insert censored word) that is another name for bivalves) of my heart. I don’t see any discussions here having any marked effect on what they’re doing, it never does.
So in conclusion: The longbow buff is insignificant and trait changes are nice but won’t put power builds in a better spot. Then you look at the nerf to endurance regeneration and realize this patch is an overall nerf to power rangers.
Pretty much nailed it.
While I’m glad they’re improving the longbow, the changes are pretty much insignificant if they don’t address the problems with the builds for it. Considering longbows need piercing, cooldown and range traits to be viable, this isn’t going to do anything about build diversity. We’re still pigeon holed to get the longbow even remotely viable.
It also doesn’t address the placement of traits related to traps and it doesn’t address any of the pet mechanics that need to be addressed like last year.
Plus that endurance regen nerf makes zero sense to me. How anet says we have too much endurance regen just leaves me scratching my head. They already nerfed it with the healing spring change.
You also made a great point about beastmaster’s bond.

Ranger:
For the ranger, we’ve adjusted the placement of some traits so that rangers should have more build combinations. For example, by swapping Nature’s Vengeance and Spirits Unbound so that rangers can have spirits follow you in tier 2, players can now opt out of the higher damage output from spirits and still have options elsewhere. We also brought up some Marksmanship and a Skirmishing trait to make power specs more appealing. We feel like rangers also currently have too much endurance regeneration through traits. Due to this, we’ve made adjustments to Wilderness Survival traits, and we’ve also brought down the passive of Sun Spirit and the active effect for Storm Spirit.
Long Range Shot. Increased the damage at 500 range by 20%.
Long Range Shot. Increased the damage at 500-1000 range by 15%.
Marksmanship V – Predator’s Instinct. Increased the threshold from 25% to 50%. Increased the Cripple Duration from 2s to 10s. Increased the cooldown from 15s to 30s.
Marksmanship VI – Beastmaster’s Bond. Decreased the cooldown from 90s to 60s.
Skirmishing XII – Moment of Clarity. Stun Duration increased from 50% to 100%.
Wilderness 5 Natural Vigor. Reduced the increased endurance regeneration from 50% to 25%.
Wilderness VIII – Oakheart Salve. Decreased the recharge of this trait from 20s->15s
Wilderness XII – Bark Skin Increased the damage reduction from 30% to 50%.
Nature Magic I – Circle of Life. Cleared up the text of this trait to clearly identify that it happens when downed, not defeated.
Nature Magic V – Strength of Spirit. Increased conversion from 5% to 7%
Nature Magic IX – Two Handed Training. Added the following functionality to this trait. Greatsword and Spear attacks have a chance to grant Fury on hit. 50% chance. 3s Fury. 10s cooldown.
Nature Magic X – Enlargement. This trait now uses Signet of the Wild to trigger. This reduces the cooldown to 60 seconds and allow it to interact with the Signet of the Beastmaster and Signet Mastery traits.
Nature Magic VII – Nature’s Vengeance. Moved to Grandmaster Tier.
Nature Magic XI – Spirits Unbound. Moved to Master Tier.
Beastmastery VI – Mighty Swap. The might from this trait is now applied to you and your pet.
Sun Spirit. Reduced the passive burning from 3s to 2s.
Storm Spirit. Reduced the damage from the Call Lightning skill by 33%

Nerf isn’t good enough i think it should be that each character gets 1 bag from a champ a day. It will get people exploring the other areas of the world looking for champs.
Terrible idea, which means you probably just guaranteed it will happen because they’re all for such things.

Hello everybody.
Please keep in mind to keep this thread productive and healthy.Keep a thread complaining about complainers productive and healthy?
I know, right? there is absolutely nothing productive or healthy about this thread in the first place, in fact it can be seen as baiting and the mod posts that? I am actually astonished at this.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Outworld is becoming one with the earth realm. It’s time to find Tyria’s greatest warriors and unite them for Mortal Kombat!
as a Side note.. I love that they censor kitten nic’s name lol
I know, right? driving me crazy. Thankfully it doesn’t censor me in game. Though I’m waiting for some overzealous GM or word filter to ban/suspend me over my in game name and account name. It censors kitten nic in defiance as well, will let me have it as an account name, but not a character name and let’s me use it on the forum as well. These auto filters need to be tweaked.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Your thread is equally as useful. Love the “do as I say, not as I do” attitude.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
What’s particularly appalling about this change is how it never made it to the Release Notes. Just a carefully stashed away nerf that ArenaNet was otherwise too embarrassed to admit.
What’s so appalling about this change? Anet is notorious for stealth nerfs like this, has been happening since GW 1. Despite them claiming that all changes make it into the patch notes. Business as usual as far as I’m concerned.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Outworld is becoming one with the earth realm. It’s time to find Tyria’s greatest warriors and unite them for Mortal Kombat!
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Because anet had the brilliant idea to gear the entire zone towards people constantly moving through it and when they changed things to the point where people have no reason to go there anymore, things don’t get completed and it remains contested.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
So another stealth nerf that anet claims they don’t do? that’s just lovely.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Gotta love it when they introduce a new heal that doesn’t heal the ranger pet. Guess they forgot that we have pets. It’s okay Anet, we forget too sometimes because they spend so much time dead.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Did you ever stop and think that in order to do the Halloween finisher achievment some people didn’t want to go into either WvW or the heart of the mists?
Sometimes when they implement things such as this it is to try to make the purely PvEers happy. Maybe deal with it for now and when the Halloween is over then complain. For now though I am sure many players that didn’t know how to complete the achievement will be happy they can finally do it.
Because it was real hard to go into the heart of the mists and kill the class combat trainers over and over again, right?
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Yeah, wasn’t too smart for them to overlap them like this. Not that I expected any better.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Yeah, they didn’t really think it through. Adding another condition when they can’t even address the current issues with conditions in pve.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
They need to make them scale with our gear or revamp rangers so our damage isn’t based on assuming the pet is alive, in the right place and actually hitting the target. But we all know how Anet is with rangers, so yeah.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Wait….you are complaining about a 5k crit? Do I have that right?
I can’t tell if this is an elaborate troll or if he’s actually serious about it.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
Throw them in the mystic forge and then you can salvage them or even sell them.
And the reason it’s that way is so there isn’t a direct gold to karma exchange. Which is nonsense now with the boxes and how you can easily just mystic forge the items.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
You aren’t missing much. Two greens and some dragonite ore. Every single one of those achievement chests have been giving me that.

Rangers have been asking for a better pet system since day 1.
Dragonbrand – Level 80 – Human Ranger
That’s giving them way too much credit.
Well, that wouldn’t be the first time the surprised us. And the credit is deserved. I’m actually excited to find out.
You got jokes, good. You’ll need them. Credit is deserved? haha. That’s just hilarious.
