thieves always did and always will counter mesmer’s because we are the only class that can keep up with them, i don’t know why some folks dont get it. sure, better mesmers will beat lesser skilled thieves.
Lies.. Ive thief’d most my gw2 life… And for the last 7 months i have been enjoying all classes…. I use to faceroll on mesmer and laugh at thieves, now that ive learned it, i laugh harder at thieves.
I feel bad later, get on my thief and murder everyone lol

To some of you, im sure hes talking about two different builds, d/d probably sb (i run this when i get tired of 50/50 wins, and i harass far all game) i run that with the condi dodge (ranged dodge) and caltrops on dodge and the skill too and the heal signet, and the signet that refills endurance.. Edit: forgot roll for initiative, i can hit 3 on d/d for evade and condi, and 3 on sb for cc and evade Pretty godly lol
I havent tried the staff build.. If anyone wanna send that my way

annnnnd this is why I’m a norn necro… snow Leopard for dash and stealth lol .. I don’t use my elites much on necro anyway…..
otherwise necro is a win and live or lose and die toon.
you have to learn other classes meta build and play accordingly… disengage early if that build counters yours, make it to a camp or tower, or try your best.
why don’t we have resistance boon access…

As someone who has played a lot of thief (a few thousand matches) and fought against a lot of them on other classes, the problem with thief (as well as mesmers) is stealth, those two classes have way too much of it. I dont see it as even halfway decent design to allow any class to always be able to vanish into thin air, remain untargetable and reset a fight while simultaneously being able to kill anyone in less than 5 seconds. If there was more counterplay to this like reveal skills with CDs or traits with ICDs that block skills from stealth.
The damage, getting outnumbered, even evades would be perfectly fine If stealth was severely limited, better access to reveal for other non stealth classes and all other classes have a few mobility skills even if not as much as thief or mesmer.
There are plenty of counter play and reveals for thief (cant speak for mesmers just deleted mine for a guard ) they gave rangers, who has more then enough ways to punish you for 6s, a reveal. they also gave engis two 6s reveals i believe.
As person who mains both thief and necro equally, and has a ranger, a warrior, now a guard, had a mesmer had a engi (didnt like either class). there are so many ways to counter a thief. Aoe spam, auto attack spam for baddies,knowing thieves with d/x will go for backstab , blocks ,invulnerabilities, fear wall, nascar warriors (they run fast ), burns on blocks, mesmers with more stealth than a thief but with homies that do either insane physical damage or condition damage, um idk about eles i just dont fight them on my thief,as they can reset a fight better than a thief sometimes, its annoying.
oh I forgot to mention that we thieves reveal ourselves hitting outta stealth, we may hit like a truck, but we are paper. sounds like a L2P pvp wvw, not pve issue. roll a couple classes and learn about them issue lol.

consume conditions, well of darkness, well of power, well of corruption, plague
death magic- mid – mid -bottom
blood magic- top- top -bottom
soul reaping-mid- mid -top
this has been my medibuild for the last couple days, i dunno if someone already posted a build similar, if so oh well. if you have ideas on how to improve please share
you can tank in this build also, dunno if i was playing baddies but ive lasted plenty of 2v1 amd 3v1s til my team came

Also, no stunbreak and not a single cleanse.
Let me put it this way, there is absolutely no way that you’ve never lost a 1v1.
I don’t see how celestial stats would hurt blood magic trait line. The whole point of this build is to out heal your opponent while doing damage via direct and some condi..blood magic let’s me siphon, increase vitality and healing power.. And gets heal when I leave ds
Signet of spite usually makes people panic and they spam heals/condi cleanse. If they don’t cleanse well great for me does 500 direct damage, gives me might, applies blind, cripple, poison, vulnerability, and weakness…
Signet of locust gives me speed, and let’s me steal health on up to 5 targets(at least a 6k heal) and again might
My spectral wall gives protection with a long fear(traited) so that way I can make use of my regeneration or disengage
The signet of vamp is great for 1v1 or team fights, you heal everytime you get hit (passive) and when you activate the signet you get a 4.5k heal and you heal more when you hit t he marked player(25 hits worth 600 hp each, great with life siphon or ghastly claws or locust swarm)
I use flesh golem for elite for the knockdown so I can either use reapers touch or life siphon…
My regen and healing mainly comes from my dagger
Axe is for life force, daze, and cripple swiftness to kite…
Ds is my ’stunbreaker" I sit in it, soak up damage, fear people, wait for condis to chill, and get a 1k heal when I exit Ds…
My sigils applies bleeding and damage, and Dodge return on switch…
My runes has two life steals procs, and mist form has saved me many times…
Im boasting 2k power, 25k health, 25%crit chance. 900 healing power
I have so much health and heals only way condis bothers me is when it’s like two condi mesmers or something.
So what’s wrong with my build in your opinion
It’s all about how you play bro, gotta learn how to kite, bait etc
And when I say I haven’t lost a 1v1 in spvp or ranked I mean it. .. No reason to lie or exaggerate….
It’s been working great for me. I’ve been able to hold my own in 2v1 situations and never lost a 1v1 yet.. Not even to condis despite my lack of condi removal.. Tell me what chu think

it’s a vamp build

It has plenty of regen, lf gain (heal in place everytime you come out) boon removal, condis and power I love it. It lacks condi removal but regen often overpowers condis, you can leech health with vamp sig and locust and of course you can’t disengage but , but as a necro why do you want to lol… Extra long fears so regen sets in or you can damage etc.
bruh even if theres two people ona node engage… specially if youre a s/D thief… with all them ports and a sb you cant die….
warriors bundle reflects? never noticed :p
warriors is great when im power build or cele
guard bundle i love when im using s/d cc is awesome
ele, naw give us fire please
engi is great when running condi or if i have a sb out (cluster bomb)
i love stealing on thieves 1v1 for extra stealth
rangers is great when im low health and have sb out or drop sf over it
mesmers steal makes me feel like i took a snort of white powder ^_-

Sa is there for a reason, regen, condi removal, blinds on stealth, initiative regaining, etc.
only other line that comes close to doing that is acrobatic. .. so you pretty much choose one or the other….
and its kinda stupid, if youre a roamer, or 1v1er not to take sa really.
if you have a good group and not pugs, id take acrobats anyday….
everyone is running cheese these days. . power rangers lb.. condi or power 1hit engi…warriors are cheese all the way around. ….

I love it I run with three traps
so since anet wants us to siphon more I decided to use Nemesis tank build for wvw
I have to say, besides it being so slow, I love it. its pretty fun.
but the new heal doesn’t even work well with it. too bad I guess
anywho…. anyone have a better wvw version? seeing as this is a pve build
I replaced well of darkness with SW that way I get that extra life bar plus a lil speed and instead of soldiers, I believe it was, I went clerics for more healing .

I main thieves but since I feel its almost unplayable to my playstyle after many nerfs, im switching back to my necro( even though I see necro forums is in rage too).. so questions, its been many months ( like since june/july) since ive played, whats the current death shroud build? I see MM is the current meta, but that’s weak, I don’t mind dying as long as I take a few with me ( im a wvw roamer, or rarely 5man group never zergs) so DS is the best IMO. so a lil help plz

Thieves seem to be in a decent spot overall since our last balance changes, however, like warrior, the thieves ability to both hard CC an enemy and deal respectable amount of damage is giving the thief too much power. So we have changes for Pistol Whip, Headshot, and Basilisk Venom. On the upside, we have some changes that will hopefully diversify thief build options.
Pistol Whip: Stun removed and instead now applies cripple. Duration 1.5 seconds.
Basilisk Venom: Stun has been reduced to 0.5 seconds and now has a venom duration of 5 seconds.
Head Shot: Stun has been removed and now applies a blind. To compensate for lost power, initiative cost is now 3.
Deadly Arts VII, Improvisation: Bonus damage while holding a bundle has been increases to 12% from 10%.
Critical Strike VII, Ankle Shot: Chance to apply cripple on critical hit has been bumped up to 100%, added an ICD of 15s.
Critical Strike XII, Hidden Killer: Increased critical strike chance from stealth
To 100%, but to compensate, placed an ICD of 15s.
Shadow Art IX, Leeching Venoms: Scaling for both the heal
And the damage has been increased by 25%, moved to grandmaster trait.Bug Fixes:
Corrected Power of Inertias boon duration. It was giving 15s of might when it should have been giving 5s, this problem has been corrected.
Assassin’s Retreat had the wrong duration and ICD, both have been fixed. swiftness duration is 5s while the ICD is 10s.Ps… I’m bored…
Some developer somewhere is going see this and think it has some fantastic balance ideas.

oh l2p? so what do you do with your maybe 13k health pool after you pop your venoms and its on cool down after a guard or warrior or maybe mez and engi either went invincible or blocked your venoms .. do you rely on your dodges? waitttttt… no we had vigor reduction not that we can get vigor easy anyway…. nah wait your stealth… wait wait nah nah might get nerfed you know, people cant see us omg OP…

I feel you as a thief who doesn’t mind stealth but prefers non stealth builds with means relying on skills like # on sword or that extra vigor we had gotten (and its not like we can get many boons unless traited ) I feel like ANET is trying to force D/D glass cannons, or what not and that’s just not my style… I feel like we got no buffs ( faster int regen is not a buff because it was never a problem). I feel like I should just quit, I mean yea they have my lil 60 bucks but why waste my time(time is money) anymore if its just not fun. I feel like I have to WORK to play for my lil 10 sec ingame life.. and still just take a beating. ANet doesn’t listen to core players, so therefore its their game not ours, I might as well go back to Runescape, atleast they listen.

idk with you but the .25 isn’t exactly .25 I seem to be there a full second…
well yea perma-stealth was a pain, but they went ham on Sword.. and evades… that.25 cast time on #2 sword isn’t .25 … cant dodge outta my #5 on bow… im sad in wvw thief is pretty much the only class I use
I finally logged in to just ask ANET: Why you no listen to ACTUAL thief players, instead of people(kids) just whining. You’ve taken a already hard to play and broken class and just ruin it further, frustrating your core thieves, how about instead you make playing different classes more rewarding so other players can learn mechanics instead of them thinking thieves are just hidden lil killers, it still take skills in stealth, we have to watch out for AOE and we are lil pieces of glass that gets broken pretty fast.
