Personally, I like Skyhammer. However, it tends to be much more lopsided in terms of score in my experience. For example: most games I play on other maps end up ~250-300 to 500. On Skyhammer, It’s more like ~100-200 to 500. There isn’t much rhyme or reason to it other than the team that gets ahead tends to stay ahead more often on Skyhammer.

I’ve had great success with P/P and a Rabid amy in sPvP. In 1v1 relies almost entirely on landing the blowtorch (P4) after they blow their condition removal. Glue shot (P5) helps keep them in place for the point-blank burning. If they aren’t going to burst you down, autos with incendiary power will eat through most people even if you can’t land the blowtorch.

Server numbers above 100 are 5v5 instead of 8v8. Try those instead. You can even create a filter to just show you 5v5 servers.

I wasn’t aware of the numbering related to them, but filtering them is extremely helpful.

Retaliation should not reflect. It is a trade-off: you allow yourself to be hit in order to punish the one who hits you. Or you ignore it and don’t get hit.

As I help a lot of new players to find their way into PvP this happens via luck and not because they found this thread. In soloQ or hotjoin (blehh) ppl write me directly or if they flame me (w/e), I offer them my help to understand basic things.

So to bring more ppl actually into PvP and make them enjoy this mode, it would be much better to put thi directly into the mists. Mabye there would be a problem with pointing out certain character-names (allrdy issue on the forum), to actually release such a list. However I’d enjoy this feature.

That would be great, but I’m not sure how this would work. I would rather see an option to open the spvp forum up from inside the game, and encouraging players to come on the forum.

I think this makes more sense, as it is a more general solution to a class of problems. Maybe a (moderated?) page on the wiki (eg /wiki PvP Help) could work? Your thread got stickied, so they clearly aren’t opposed to community options. Would they be averse to adding a hint or tip about using /wiki PvP Help to get help with PvP from other players? This could be extended further into /wiki PvE Help and /wiki WvW Help as well.

That’s a really cool idea. I try already to help out players who are just starting (they’re typically easy to identify if you’re chatty in /map), but there aren’t many of those that come through my matches since 8s are the default. Having some sort of list available in-game would help remedy that.

Agree with Lifewaster about blind. Disagree with OP about retaliation. However, I do believe that retaliation needs to be telegraphed better. Retaliation is designed to be the counter to burst specs; if you take that away then it becomes next to useless.

Currently retaliation is absolutely worthless against the biggest burst hits though.

Backstab takes 1 hit of retal
Eviscerate takes 1 hit of retal
etc

The skills punished most are things weak as heck like the Engineer’s flamethrower auto attack that pulses 10 attacks over 2 seconds. You can easily eat 2-3x the damage you do with the FT in retaliation damage.

It needs to just be a % of the damage taken is reflected, which is pretty much how the wording sounds like it would be.

I agree that they should change it to that; it’s really painful playing a FT engi vs a team with a couple guardians constantly granting retri. However, I think that retri as a mechanic would be good if it were telegraphed better.

Some of the targeting changes we’re trying should help alleviate selection of stacked targets. Right now there’s so much overlap that even if you clicked perfectly on someone’s model, it could select a minion instead.

It would be refreshing to see the NPCs/AI removed out of PvP. Currently everything but a warrior (wait, forgot about rock dog) has something following it.

Engis have no followers. They do have turrets, but they don’t move so it (generally) isn’t an issue to avoid targetting them.

What about this: chilled causes skills to consume 50% more initiative. This way the counterplay is exactly the same as classes with cds: wait for the chilled effect to wear off before spamming your heart out.

To be entirely honest with you: forget about the points. Focus on winning the game. Even better, stop playing the 8v8 hotjoins and instead do 5v5s. You will rank up more slowly, but the game is balanced around 5v5 and playing it at that level prevents a lot of abuse cases that can happen in 8v8 (eg 8 players spamming their aoe can 1-shot a group of squishy players, leaving the tankier ones in an impossible situation). Even better, zerging doesn’t work in 5v5 unless the team being zerged doesn’t know how to handle it (which is pretty rare as its intuitive; you just backcap).

You are almost right on that percentage: its 80%. The other 20% is you. If you do exceptionally well, you can carry a team in 5v5. In 8s? It all comes down to who has the more effective zerg. The only reason 8s exist is to fit more players into fewer matches. I honestly don’t know why they chose to make 8s the default hotjoin mode.

Immune to chill? Do thieves not move at a reduced speed when they’re chilled? News to me.

Chill was specifically designed with initiative in mind – someone at Anet specifically used chill as an example to how thieves CD mechanics were different than the other classes, mentioning that the CD slowdown part of chill was specifically designed to not affect initiative.

You’ll also note it still affects heals, utilities, the class skill, and elites, because those have CD timers.

Condition damage gets the same amount of points. Its 5 for a kill/assist and 10 for the kill/assist being on an objective. I believe that there is a minimum amount of interaction (so just 1 aoe won’t tag everyone for you, but an aoe chill + aoe poison would if they died soon after).

Necro. Solid AoE damage, decent tankiness if you stick with the group (death shroud can keep you alive, if not up, through most burst if you’re in the middle of your team).

Staff Ele is another decent choice; lots of good aoes. You might also consider nade engi, axe ranger or longbow warrior.

You can also do the daily pvp, they count as daily representation. That way you can do 2 daily per day. You can finish both in 3 days this way.

I haven’t done any of the major ones in this thread, but I did let my buff wear off and complete 2 Ascalon events (working toward’s Evon’s homeland support) without realizing it.

Now I’m paranoid about it happening again, or even worse. This thread is not helping >.>

At the very least, we’ve got another 11 days to complete the achievements, so there is plenty of time. Its just especially frustrating when you finish a frustrating activity and lose out on a reward not because you didn’t perform well or any such reason, but because the (very small) buff icon disappeared in the thick of things without you realizing.

The whole mechanic is sort of weird. Dumping hundreds of votes in to get hundreds of temp buffs that don’t actually buff anything but run out at inconvenient times when you’re trying to get achievements just seems really clunky.

I’m not sure what they were really going for with this one. Why not let us get a permanent campaign button and skip the hassle?

I wish they had let us get a permanent one, but for completionists that could be difficult to manage. I think it would have been kind of cool to have the buttons as a currency, but at the same time we have had so many currencies I think it’d just kitten me off lol

…when you complete your last daily achievement only to see that your representation buff has worn off just as you completed the jumping puzzle that was inexplicably much harder than it had been the last time you did it.
…when you complete a massive event chain only to realize your buff wore off right after the first event was completed.
…when you complete a dungeon that took much longer than it should have and realize your buff wore off (that you refreshed twice, even) right before the end.

Feels awful, man. Especially the daily one; I have to wait another day in order to finish my last Kiel achievement now.

Just the opposite. The assisted leap power up is right next to it. Exactly where it needs to be to allow this to be used. I see no other use for a powered up assisted leap in the rest.

If we are going to complain about unfair I would say having RNG based victory is even more unfair. I’ve gotten #1 around 3 times but at least one of those was because being lucky with the RNG. Getting a chain of Light Travel provides a huge boost. To a lesser degree getting Aspect Master earlier on can make a huge difference as well.

This isn’t meant to be a super-competitive sport; rather a fun timesink a la Mario Kart. Light Travel only spawns if you’re way back in the pack, so it can’t make a difference between the leading few unless the entire group manages to stay in one massive blob.

As for the topic: I have no idea if this is intended or not. It sounds like it may be an uber-difficult shortcut, but if it isn’t it ought to be fixed.

Try guesting onto a different server. I don’t know if it’d help in this particular instance, but some things have been bugged in the past (notably Flame & Frost achievement items) where you could get nothing on one realm but move to another and make progress.

Attached is one screenshot, here is another.

In short: I got one of the retroactive achievement reward chests today and from it received a PvP Achievement Reward Chest. Inside this chest, along with other items, I found a basic PvP Rifle.

It is a bit upsetting to get one of the weapons available for 0 Glory from a PvP reward chest instead of a weapon skin. Even if I already had the skin, it’d still be nicer than getting the weapon my engineer (and warrior) had as soon as they entered the mists.

Currently Necromancers are able to stack bleeding + poison + dmg on fear with their marks constantly along with the ability to have another hp bar and use plauge for massive dmg. it feels really overpowered.

Totally understand why I see so many necros in pvp now as opposed to thieves. Thanks for this revelation.

Thieves pubstomp extremely well and deal tons of (single target) damage, which is great in disorganized games but much worse in games where people cooperate, peel and CC for each other.

What people seem to have a hard time grasping is that when you put someone in a down state, they aren’t dead. If there were no down state, they wouldn’t have been dead at that point. Rather, they’d be at around 10-15% HP. So the statements like “well I wouldve killed three people had there been no down state” are really inaccurate. It would’ve been more like “well i almost killed 3 people”. No change, really.

Don’t think of down state as a chance to come back from death. Think of it like a CC that you apply to them that requires their teammates to drop what they’re doing if they want to remove it.

I think … The downed player needs to get an option to suicide since it could be abused by the attacker to try keeping them downed. Imagine 5 vs. 5 each with five different 1 vs. 1 (people fighting at different parts of the map) and one team winning all the 1 vs. 1… they could just leave them downed… let them bandage a bit.. and sometimes attack a bit not finishing them and not letting them rally or fully bandage.

There is nothing i hate more than sitting around in a downed state for what seems like aeons with somebody pinging at me with enough damage to keep me downed… just give me a way to speed up the inevitable..

Don’t bandage? You bleed out naturally if you don’t channel 4.

yes I noticed some servers with a bunch of guilds hanging out, which is pretty awesome in a way, because its nice to see pvp guilds getting together. But it sure aint hard to find a normal game.

I had more issues pre-patch with people taking over the 5v5 servers for dueling than with guilds taking over public servers post-patch. Further, I don’t believe the presence or absence of custom servers much influences whether guilds want to ‘own’ a server—legitimately or otherwise.

iirc there is a ‘no captures’ flag, which would be used for duel servers to prevent people griefing by just joining, capturing everything for their team and ending the duels early.

There is SIGNIFICANTLY less CC in GW2 than wow. They’re hardly even comparable in that regard. A well-executed CC chain in GW2 might lock you down for 8-10 seconds. In WoW the average CC that will get thrown at you lasts that long.

When a single player joins a game, a message is displayed in party chat with a link to join that game. Just make sure that you join one with enough slots.

Class philosophy, it was there view when they sold the game. They changed their view when they saw what they originally had didn’t work. They have doubled back on what they said on a lot of things, or are you turning blind eyes towards all of that?

Further more, my point stands. No one should be able to look at a X vs Y and be able to say " X wins for sure". That is horrible balance and that is what we have in Guild Wars 2. As to the post by you that was deleted, LoL is a completely different game with different play style, it is… off center at best to try and compare the two.

It was never their view. I’ve not seen a professionally developed game in the past ten years that held that view. Imbalances between classes are necessary for an interesting game.

it can be VERY worth it. it is not required though. the only requirement is killing your opponent’s treb if they are using it. it doesn’t need to be in use throughout either. if your team is struggling to win team fights it can help turn the tide to toss a couple treb shots and pull one or two of their players to treb while you bail and take advantage of their diminished numbers out in the field.

It’s not really firing blindly though. Once you get used to it you’ll realize there’s a target duration for hitting mid and another for hitting sides. I don’t even watch the bar anymore, I just count in my head and watch the map for incoming and team movements.

With “firing blind” i was more referring to the difficulty of seeing where the enemies are. Usually I just fire at the capture circle/square.

That’s a good idea about baiting them to an (empty) treb.

Since stealth will give reveal debuff even if you don’t attack this nonsense needs to go.

Thieves aren’t weak; they’re pigeonholed. They’re very good at what they can do, but they can only do that. That is the thief’s problem.

It’s not how it’s supposed to work, no matter how you look at it or how much you HATE stealth.

Stealth’s getting nerfed, at least they could fix this for consistency.

Where have they stated that it isn’t supposed to work like that?

I have tried engi a few times a couple of months ago and deleted it after missing constantly with FT. I made one a few days ago and I don’t miss anymore. It got fixed.

It was never a problem:P For those who at least knew how it worked:> People watched the flame where it was going, should watch where they turn camera at with right mouse button. Still FT is best used without actuall target.

How it used to be was that it shoots where you look at. Thing is,.. looking at where your camera is angled, severely hurts you. I look around for more enemies while fighting, to ensure not getting grouped on, and with a flamethrower, your fire ill just miss. Now, if you target people you can actually look around while fighting.

Did you find it fun that you couldn’t look around while firing while all other professions can?

Once again, I never had problem so I dunno what the big deal was. You could look around using LMB instead of RMB.

That often resulted in missing as well. Not always, but often.

The biggest problem with FT pre-patch was that if you circle-strafed your 1 would miss almost 100% of the time. Post-patch that no longer happens. Not being able to circle-strafe is a huge deal in….every mode. It allows kiting without requiring large kite areas.

Rally only happens “by accident” in hotjoin/8v8, where there is too much going on.

In a tournament setting, everything takes teamwork. How did you manage to down and finish someone without trying at all or risking anything? In a team setting this doesn’t happen and it’s fine.

Sure, it can be frustrating at times to down someone and have them insta-res by another death. But it’s a core part of the gameplay.

Now if you want to talk about the conditions you rally under (a smaller and more reasonable dicussion), that might be worth it. I think sometimes they are too generous and let players rally from someone very far away. Perhaps they need to increase the amount of damage the downed player has to do to the enemy defeated play in order to rally.

Or just remove it. As i mentioned in earlier posts. It is not a fun mechanic. It does not create more dynamic play, it only shifts whats important in a situation to something else, but what options you have are always the same.

Heres a fun thought that i garantee is true. If rally was not in the game on launch. And this whole time you’ve been playing with out it or any thought of it…always knowing ressurecting always takes a risk or decision to heal your teammate. Then one day i put up a post on the forums saying “why shouldnt it just rez all your teammates who are downed in a fight when i kill someone!” it would be met (even by people advocating for rally today) by a big NO!

People would be like “wow you want MORE ressurecting? lawl, somebody cant handle the game they want EZ mode” “yea, no thanks that would make the game too easy, its annoying enough…what would be the point of speccing to ressurect/heal?” “backstab theif wants to replace gaurdians…plz”

This is what you would see, its not needed…its not a fun mechanic. Its just people become comfortable with things even when they’re toxic to the game play and they fight to keep it because they hate change. But i garantee you, if/when they put it in custom servers as an option to turn off, and people try it out. it will become very popular.

That it isn’t fun is your opinion. The bleed-out states in games are something that I find enjoyable. It’s a last ditch shot at survival. It isn’t toxic to the gameplay in the least. It offers multiple paths to success. Do I revive my teammate directly? Do I try to down an enemy and go for a stomp? Do I just try to keep them off of him so he can heal himself? etc. Choice and consequence.

You are correct: if it hadn’t been in the game then people would be arguing against it. Why? The game wouldn’t be balanced around it. As it stands, the game is balanced around rally. If there were no rally, rezzes would likely be easier/faster to compensate.

The horrible 1 is the biggest reason I refuse to use the grenade kit. In sPvP you rarely have time to auto much, so its not so bad. In PvE, however, I’m not going to spam 1 manually.
