Did on full zerker thief, on the first attempt, imho it s not an easy fight but with the will to overcome it and some attention to the animation you should get throught it.
I love this kind of fight and i hope anet will provide us with more

For me it s a buff as well as a nerf :
- buff because you can chain evede with this set like if you were using shortbow number 3
- nerf because you can’t precast larcenous strike anymore
- nerf because now there is a counter play to the boon reaping of the sword as well as easier/stronger ability to alnd of the set, but i think it s actually for the better and won’t hurt that much the best thieves

As above says, while in open teamfights with more than 3ppl on each side, D/P would be superior because of burst and and stealth.

Now having play the 2 specs and loving the S/D, if you go full defensive with S/D you can go full defensive and avoid their burst if you know it s coming, which is easy to achieve by keepin track of the enemy location, if they are all stealth or coming towards you you’re gonna have a bad time.

For me as a S/D thief, you have to feel when the enemy is gonna burst you up and then use your ton of evades to just dance around them while laughing heavily and when one of them overextend or is out of cd you just burst him and leave your mates to finish the job

well since i m quoted in here i’ll have to expose my point of view on here.

I called it “Sizer build” because to my knowledge Sizer is the best known thief playing this build and every one will see what i’m talking about without going into details about the build that’s all.
I’m not sure i’ll get the same effect if i called it “Arganthium build” or any other name.

Then we have to keep in mind that this damage lacking build was only made viable after the april feature patch and rune of strength meta, because everyone is stacking might and you can steal it from them to boost your own damage, allowing to trait into more defence and utility.
So the build may have been played by any thief before, and maybe with sucess, but it is only a trend and as soon the might stacking meta will be nerf, we won’t hear about it so much just like old thief build.

Am I forced to play Sizer's build ?

The sizer build is the most effective one on thief at the moment. Then you can be succesfull with other build as well, depends on your skills

Hi,
So if i’m correct he is playing 2/0/0/6/6 with valkyrie armor and a mix of berserker and valkyrie trinket.
It is indeed a nice vid but i’m much more impress by the gameplay of the engi than yours ^^ He usually had the major part of the focus and still manage to survive and do a lot of condi dmg.
About your thief, try using more infiltrator strike to get out of bad situations and throw him some more random dodge roll to get the 10% dmg bonus when endurance isn’t full. Other than that very nice indeed.

All but necromancer, and only condition necromance in WvW :
They tend to always have a full shroud which give them way too much time to condi kill you.

First it was a problem on my part since i m having quiet a low connection this days, but seeing this answered my question, plus revert it to something smoother, it s just impossibru to use this skill decently now

I was YoloQing (understand tagging TeamQ with less than 5 people) with two friends and we ended up against a 5man premade of a guild from my server on Forest of Nifhel. I told my buddies that i couldn’t possibly loose against this guild even if the odds were against us for they were a WvW guild, and as we all know there is no bigger shame for a sPvP player that to be beaten by a WvW player.
So we tried hard to win, and tried even harder after we realised the 2 people that ended up with us weren’t very good.
Finally we won 500 to 500, the honor was saved, this day wasn’t the day were sPvP fall to WvW.

We need a bank in Heart of the Mists.

Wow. In tPvP, the home of all wannabe pro players and Empathetic Fighter, can’t realize that once you get immobilized by an hammer guardian

I guess we all know who to trust when it comes to high lvl tpvp …
This sorrow has just been all other those skyhammer posts trying to def how skill this map is with more than questionnable argument, he refuses to aknowledge the flaws of his argumentation.
Don’t get me wrong i’m not trying to insult him or anything, i don’t even know him, i m just stating the facts here.

Although i do agree i don’t really what skills to put on sword offhand, the parry won t bug me if it isn’t too long as we already have initiative evades which are more powerful than blocking !

To sorrow, as you don’t seem to understand i ll point out the flaw in your arguments.
First you said that being pushed out of the map to your death was a long serie of mistakes which is competitive and i would agree if that was true.
But i disagree because you can get push on only ONE mistake in this map, it is far too punishing.
You then say that making one single mistake and being hard punished for that is competitive → first self contradiction. I point it out.
You then resay that it’s a a series of mistake → second self contradiction.

Then if you can read, i said you usually fight for a node when out of cd, because it seems conquest is all about nodes, well maybe i was wrong and when an ennemy comes to contest my node i shall run in fear of him killing me because i got no cd.
Anyway you seem like the the type of personn who cannot handle a debat and recognise his flaws, or just a troll guys.
That’s my last answer to you, srry to others ppl for multiple posts.

If that guy get pushed into the pit, he was outplayed.
He made a long list of mistakes that leaded to his death.

The no-room for errors is competitive.
This map underlines the differences between skilled and unskilled players much much more compared to other maps simply because you can’t afford to make a mistake

I think that prove how good your arguments are …

Regarding your example, it isn’t significative because you engaged such a dangerous fight with your stunbreakers on cooldown, which is something any competent player would have never, never done.

You’ve obvously never defended a node properly in tPvP, yet you’re speaking of how great this map is for competitive games. How you fight when out of cooldown is part of the game and show how well you know its mechanism.

So ANet agrees Skyhammer is not a tPvP map.

I think ppl do not understand the no-skill aspect of an instakill, in gw2 you should actualy have room to adapt to the build of your foe.
In fact when you see an engineer for exemple and he has pistol/shield. You can guess he s playing condition, maybe teldo build or a tweak version of it, he might also have a crazy build you ve never seen before.
But the thing is you are out of cd cause you just pwned a thief. So the engineer can simply push you out of the ledge with his shield 4, you dead and still don’t know anything about his build. It could have been a good fight or you could have delayed but no cd which happens a lot in tpvp means your death. Where do you have room to adapt, where is the skill ?
Now ppl are often raging/QQing hard when they don’t have some room to adapt, you just have to look at posts whinig about thief being OP because too much dmg or back at launch 100b warrior being OP.
Personnaly i play thief and have no problem on this map cause i m nerver out of cd (got to love init) and i don’t mind having no easy access to stab or knock backs/pulls, but i agree that it cannot be competitive in its state because of this lack of window for reaction, you do 1 mistake you die even if you were dominating the whole fight and build with no dmg can easily kill anyone. That’s not really competitve is it ?

Man, i don’t really care that you re killing little thieves, as most ppl playing thief nowadays are just bad cause they thinks it s OP and didn’t pay attention to learn how to play but how can you kill someone with a lvl 14 Oo
I remember when i was still a lvl 14 thief, i was dealing 200 dmg with aa on a full zerk war (with lvl 80 it’s like 2000 dmg) pls tell me your secret :o

It s nice to see some ppl are trying out to change games type, it s a pity they don’t like it :/
so here s my advice to you :
1. Try 5v5, or tournaments with other guys, but hot join 5v5 are the best way to learn when you re new. 8v8 are known to be land of farming for high lvl pvp players.
2. I don’t know what class you re playing but try not avoiding aoe and some condi cleanse, you shouldn’t get so much bothered by condi.
3. a big hot join problem, but as i said 8v8 is farming land, and high lvl player usually group up to kill little noobs (no harm intended), the only solution is to try to get to their team or just kill them if you re skilled enough
4. see number3
5. try changing server, but playing against same ppl is good as you get to know their builds and counter it.

Anyway, try not to give up so early, pvp is great, i wish you luck and maybe we will encounter on the battlefield (if we do you won’t spend a minute alive srry :p ).

Hi there
We definitly need to be able to have several templates on one class, actually i have 2 chars for each class i play so i don t need to change templates.

Now about skyhammer, i think it s a great map, with new ideas that i really like. For the moment i plaid thief a lot on it and without any CC, like none at all except basi venom and immobilize on sword. And when i see a CC oriented build, i just kill him while he tries to cc me out of the map. I played like 50 games on this map and was only knocked out three times, one was a suicide.
This map is great for hotjoin as you can troll the hell out of ppl and zerging isn t a good idea at all because of the cannon.
I agree the cannon need to be toned down, the area of it plus the non dodgeable factor is jus too much.

I also think this map would be great for tourneys under some conditions.
Actually it just to much of a cc/stab thingy, you could see Team pardigm playing with 3 guardians.
For this map to be playable, we need to change how tournaments are working.
It’d be great if the tournament map was a random map, so you won’t be able to spec for the map.
I think it’d be great if you had a first screen were you could just see the ennemy composition, so you can adjust your build to it thx to templates and then you just enter a random map and fight. Once you enter the map, you won’t be able to change your build anymore but keep weapon swapping at the beginning or skill change for some combo fields.

I don’t really understand why so much ppl QQ about thakittens only one achievement, PvE players don’t QQ because they will never have the Ransacker title for exemple as they do not PvP.
I think it s a good idea that living story do not have only PvE achievements, as it should concern the whole Game. It would be great that some of the achievement also concern sPvP and the new skyhammer map like for example, kill X ppl with cannon or knock all profession of the edge.
And it seems like all those QQer are forgetting it’s an achievement ! You have to work hard to get it not just go to one place and there is my achievement like it s the case for so many of them.
If you don’t want to put the time and effort to get it get over it and stop whining.

Well i guess we just to wait for top teams to decide if it s good.

And we can only notice that the one defending this map usually says it s good cause bad position means instakill, that you have to build for it (build wars) and that if you don’t do it it s because your a newb which can t adapt.
Personnaly i also played cheesy terrormancer with max fear duration, little ds cds and corrupt boons, i could perma fear anyone into the void every 20 sec regardless of stability. I had no dmg and i was super squishy but hey, i can build right and smash my keyboard for those fears so i am skilled
So yeah it’s fun, yeah it can be refreshing and all but in no way can this map be in tournaments or any competitive environment, this is for hot joins and personal arena

New map skill vs. Old map skill.

While asking if new map needs or do not need skills, you must first ask yourself what is to be “skilled” at gw2.
For me, and i might be wrong, a skilled pvp player must have a good knowledge of game mechanism, knowledge of the different builds and how to counter them, teamplay and positionning on the map to outnumber foes.
In game mechanism you can include dodging high dmg/cc skills, using your cds wisely or good positionning in teamfights according to your role in the team.

Now in the first three map, those mechanism are really useful because you ve got nearly no way to instakill anyone so you must fight and use them. The secondaries objectives are also not overwhelming : you can always destroy treb, defend lord or steal chieftain and svanir with 1 or 2 ppl.

Now in the new maps. Problem is that not matter how skill you are, you can win by exploiting the secondary objectives just as pve players run dongeons with 4 warrior 1 mesmers and wins. For example on spirit watch, you can win with one point, orb and some decent cc. Temple is a little map, so splitting isn t as efficient and skyhammer is land of cc. Temple and spirit watch are still playable imo but skyhammer is too much

No matter how skilled you can be, they are so much cc in this game that they overcome amount of stability/dodges you can pull off. Usually it s not a problem because you have mates which can revive you or counter pressure when you re finally getting cc but in skyhammer getting knock out means instadeath ! Once you get cc once your basically dead and nobody can do anything about it, not you nor your team.
And this can’t be skills, nor e-sport or a team game so it s basically only a fun map where you pull out your troll build and troll the hell out of ppl !

Survey: Do you want more PvP achievements?

We definitly need more achievement point in PvP, especially since you can earn reward with them. I mean in this game if your an hardcore PvE player you get everything : the gold, the gems, achievements points, some spvp skins, stuff for WvW …
If you re an hadcore spvp player you don t even have acess to all spvp skins, you got nothing for WvW, you need to sell dies to get a little gold, no more ways to get gems, and very limited way to get achievement point.
I think we defenitly need a rework in pvp reward

Necro usually have their heal that is a total cond cleanse.
Now i’d like to point out that even though conditions are very strong at the moment and we probably some boons similar to prot or aegis to mitigate the damage, power dmg can’t be ignored.
If you’ve for example watched team paradigm invitational tournament, you’ve seem top teams are still playing with heavy power teams and some with no condi profession at all (such as new denial esport ancient tcg).
Indeed power is still a really strong mechanic as it is the only way to spike a high level target et put the ennemy team in a real bad spot.

If you are stealthed and you use shadowshot (#3 attack D/P set) and while shadowstepping to the target you press 1 you actually do a backstab and not the melee part of shadowshot.

With the same idea, you can dodge or sheathe at the end of the skill to remain stealth or out of combat, i find it s a great way to move around for low iniative cost

I like the idea a lot.
As many of my in game mates, i think gw2 is a terribly easy game in PvE with no real challenge in dongeons and some not so easy part in high level fractals (let’s say 30+) if you re with a good group or a good and balance team composition.
That’s why when i first entered the aetherblades dongeon i was very happy with those new fights where you are not only hitting a boss with tremendous amounts of hp until he dies, and i hope anet will keep on the work and produce more challenging/harder dongeons.
However, some ppl who do not have the time or the will to raise their skills found it too difficult and are QQing all around, and i hope anet won t get the wrong idea and stop this kind of content.
So this system might just be the answer to please everyone !

Stealth and block/evade

Hello to the thief community.
I am mainly a pvp player and love my little thief but there is something in the stealth mechanics that have been bugging me since launch :
When a thief uses his stealth attack and for some reason it misses because of a blind or is block/dodged by the foe, the thief stays in stealth state.
In my mind, it seems logical that if your attack is dodged or blocked you should be revealed to the eyes of anyone, but well things are how they are, and although it surprised me first time , i didn’t really mind.

However, today we can see a lot of QQ about perma stealth thief, about how they own everything or wins 20v2, etc … I do not agree with thief being imba because of this as they enough ways to counter it but it is true that stealth is a noob friendly mechanism in it s actual state.

That’s why i think it could be a good idea to implement a new things : if your stealth attack gets dodged or blocked, the thief is revealed.
In my opinion, this will lead to reward good thief, as you won’t be able able to mindlessly smakitteno land your backstab, and it ll also reward good players that try to dodge those backstab, allowing for more mind games which is for me the base of good thiefery.

I am aware that this need some balance, that’s why i am asking what you think of this idea.
