Maybe I am late on this, but I cannot finish my map completion with the current setup for WvW.

How can I finish this? I have been trying for months with no luck. I am missing only a few poi in each but they are always taken by another realm.

Help please

I like the idea, but here is your problem with more difficult content all around, why would I want to do that?

Risk/reward is not something that works in GW2. Kill the hardest boss in the game? Here’ya go, a green leather hate for a level 76. Good job!

I, nor any group of people will willingly to their death (multiple times) only to get vendor trash.

Anet will not change this because that means, supposedly, less people going to the cash shop. Catch 22 my friend.

At this point I would consider buying a new skin. The options are terrible. I am not going to grind out a skin that looks like I am holding a long scepter.

I want something big that makes me feel like I am holding something of power. Not a fire place poker.

Either way, I 100% agree with OP and would like to see some staff love.

First off, I agree with the OP.

I cannot log on to most cities without being in overflow which was not the case 2 weeks ago.

All I see in LA is LFG Fotm 1-19, or lfg (name dungeon) people are playing way more than they did 2 weeks ago.

If you would stop whining for 2 sec. NO ONE has yet to prove how any of this will hurt the game. All you use is anecdotal evidence to prove your paranoia. No one knows the future. If two items that can only be gotten by months of playing the same dungeon is creating a gear treadmill, the treadmill must be set to UBER SLOW.

Also, it is not a grind. I LOVE the new dungeons. TA and AC are horrible dungeons, just awful. Fotm is so much fun. I am above level 5 but I will run 1-5 at any time. Why? Because they are amazing. Oh, and I see people all the time, my guild included, doing the same thing.

I have a reason to keep playing. I now see a future for this game. Before it was boring dungeon grinds to get pretty gear then do nothing. Sure I could make up content like see how fast I can run around LA but I didn’t pay 60 bucks to come up with my own games. What I mean by this is not that I can grind for gear, but that if the Fotm dungeons are the future, I WANT TO KEEP PLAYING. I don’t care about your stupid kittening gear, I just want to have fun.

NOTHING from these new pieces of “grinded treadmill” gear will make 1 bit of difference in WvW. Especially since all you conveniently miss the part where the gear will be made available OUTSIDE THE DUNGEON.

So freaking seriously, kitten and enjoy the game. Just because Anet isnt catering tot he GW1 crowd, doesn’t mean you get to clog the forums with your whining.

Anet won’t be able to see your tears because of all the money that I, my guild, and my friends will be throwing at them. So many whiners….

your first point is moot as you have no idea what is in the future. While your second statement may have been true, as all of you have said, this isn’t the same game as any other. It is different. I have yet to see anything like this and do not think I will. A few folks with 10 more points of every stat is not going to kill me anymore quickly than before.

There is no evidence to prove the apocalypse has come. Calm down.

It is true I am not a seerer who knows the future. However I am an old gamer, played many types on many systems starting with Archon on my TI system. I have also been in the MMO scene before there was one way back on BB muds through UO and WoW and all the ones in between.

There is a common trend in all of them and GW2 is not THAT unique. Once you begin inflation of gear, it leads to more inflation of gear. The only real difference GW2 had was that its developers were one of the few if not only SUCCESSFUL developers to make an MMO of any type (GW1 was an MMORPG by definition, if only barely) that did not fall pray to increasing vertical stats throughout the years.

Increasing power horizontally yes but not vertically.

So now we get to today. GW2’s developers still seemed to want to break the mold. But when push comes to shove (finance or whatever) they ignore their previous success and instead attempt to fall into the same clone mentality of all the others chasing the WoW dream.

If you are a WoW player, then this shouldnt bother you. If however there is anything in WoW you did not like based on gear, gating or the ever increasing power and ease later on in that pursuit of power. Then this should make you worry.

Because Vanilla WoW also had a very good balance for the casual and the hardcore in mind. Until they let split that first stat increase and people accepted it as a “its not a bad thing, lets wait and see” and now… we have WoW 2012.

I don’t think WoW intended to be different at all and just did everything better than the other treadmill. I have played for some time as well and I have seen companies do what is best for them and the players. Anet will do what it takes to make money. If changing to a gear treadmill makes them money, then that is what people obviously want. I don’t think that is the case, so they won’t.

But WoW progression and Anet “progression” are not even comparable. WoW changes everything. Number changes are huge. You HAVE to have the latest and greatest to do any kind of serious dungeons. This is not and will not be the case with GW2.

10 extra power will not make that much of a difference. The fact that I can do the first 2 levels of fractal in greens below 80, that ascended gear will be available in WvW and crafting means the ONLY purpose for ascended gear is to give those that want to push themselves tot he extreme have a way to get to the end of fractals and THAT is it.

It will not affect any of you at all other than in your mind, you know someone somewhere has a piece of gear with 10 more power on it, and that, for some reason, is driving you crazy.

If every piece of “progression” is an extra 10 points of stats on gear, it will take 20 stages of progression to equal anything WoW has ever offered and will only take a a new player about the same amount of time to get, BUT that will not happen. 10 point gear progression is dumb.

This is a perfect way to let players play how they want. Play to the extreme and it doesn’t hurt you and your gameplay, maybe your ego, but not your gameplay.

I say again, calm down.

There is no difference in progress pre-80 versus post-80.

One is stat increases from experience, and the other is stat increases from drops.

Both drops and experience comes from killing mobs, doing hearts DE’s etc.

Maybe you can prance around at 80 and pick flowers, but like I’ve already said in this thread, when I invest my time and money into an MMO, it is to see my ‘guy’ stronger when I log off than when I logged in. I doubt I am alone here.

Do you understand what inflation is in the real world. IE The only means to secure an increase in wealth is an increase in productivity (skill) not pay rises. If you don’t understand that then you’ll never understand MMO design tactics.

On a gear progression system your “guy” is never stronger he’s only less weak than the devs made him yesterday.

Comparing gear to real world economies is a lackluster analogy. Sure stats inflate in MMO. So long as someone can jump on board and catch up to the progress wave later in the game, there is no problem.

Your last point is simply semantics. The end result is the player still feels a sense of progression.

No, a thoughtful player will realize he’s not stronger as the result of inflated stats. He or she will realize there is no progression whatsoever. The truth is he or she has gone nowhere (that’s why it’s called a treadmill). After the new tier is introduced, all the rats in the cage get on the treadmill and acquire the new gear. The mobs get stronger. No one has gone anywhere.

Study game design, there are many resources available on the internet. Power creep is a problem in game design, not a solution. It’s implemented by lazy developers and it satisfies simple players.

Well, thank you, sir for insulting generations of MMO players. What if I said games without treadmills are for children who can’t compete?

Yeah, broad generalizations do nothing. No one can yet actually give to me a good argument to justify this reaction.

Let’s say that all ascended gear guys have 20 more points of each stat than you. If you lose to them WvW, you would have lost to them in rare vs exotic.

BUT, let us be real. You will be able to obtain this gear via WvW and crafting. It will be available in many ways to get in a casual way.

Also, there is no proof of any of this causing a problem. None of the things you people are whining about is happening on my server.

The sky is not falling. Stop making stupid statements to try and justify your pathetic mentality of entitlement.

How does acended gear hurt you guys? I don’t get it. I can do most exp mode dungeons below level 80 and do quite fine.

For now, until the grinders have full ascended and claim (even more then now) that the exp AC is to easy and Anet revamps it to match what the players have for stats. Then you may not be able to do AC.

I can pvp below 80 and have a good time. When, please tell me, when does WvW ever end in a 1v1?

If you run with special squads, we did this a lot on JQ and most of the top tier servers do, 1v1 WvW happens fairly often but small group is much more common. 4-6 vs 4-6. Remember the days of the server having all the Orb bonuses? Yeah THAT is the same stat difference that we have with 1 piece of Ascended. Just wait til you face someone in full with your exotics lol. Stop running with the zerg like a sheep and you may learn something about WvW.

Your scenarios are just so unrealistic. Nothing arenanet has done will affect your gameplay at all. The ONLY thing you might not be able to do is level 10 + in Fractal. If that really bothers you, then you are just butthurt because they didn’t hang all the apple super close the to ground for you.

There is nothing in this game that stops you from competing or having fun. The difference between rare and exotic gear does not change the outcome of a 1v1 any more than fractal will. Get over it. It is not he end of the world.

Oh, and I have run most exp dungeons in the last few days. They are not dead, no one is gear checking on my server. All is well. Please stop making this stuff up.

Thank you Anet and Andrew for speaking up. Don’t listen to the whiners. I love this game and will keep playing.

While I wait for the patch to DL, I am going to right some things that I think were misrepresented by Anet and some things I really want to see here in GW2. This is my own opinion.

1. “No more trinity” to me meant that they would replace it with a dynamic group build and a interesting way of building each class, but instead we got all DPS classes. Playing support is a hinderence to any dungeon run. Closest you can get is a tank and even then it is ify since there is no agro table to speak of.

2. Loot. Haven’t gotten one piece of loot that excited me. I have had to look any where but killing things to get something that I was happy with. The level of risk and difficulty compared to the reward is awful.

3. Progression. There is none to speak of unless you make it up yourself. I do not mean gear treadmill. I do not want one of those, but I would like something to build towards. Legendary skins are just a skin and they are not progression. I do not feel like I can advance my avatar at all.

4. This kind of goes along with the others in a way, I wish to be something special. That does not mean better than others due to gear, but there are no tanks or healers, just dps. All I am is another body to fill a hole. I want to become good at a roll and feel epic, I cannot in this makeup. Not asking for a huge change, just a tweak to let me build myself in another way than dps.

5. No sense of epic. There is no huge mountain to climb, no baddy to beat, just a lazy beach to kick stuff around on if you want to. Again, I know it is a choice to have it laid back, but could you give those that want the epic, a place to feel epic?

6 Holidays with stuff that is really awesome. Halloween was fun, but I came out of it with nothing. I know every fanboy hates wow, but the helm you got from the headless horseman was the shiz. Decent stats and a cool active effect. It laughed like the mad king did. Awesome. I would grind that all day long just to have a chance at it.

7. Mob balance and respawn. Seriously, wtf. The other things are preference, but this is just ridiculous. Mobs spawning before I kill the one they are replacing is a bit much. Also, mobs with massive cc like a 5 sec stun while you lay on the ground being beaten helplessly. When you are on the ground or locked out of spells enough to start checking things to see if it bugged, that is too long.

8. Mounts: Something awesome to collect, a way not to have to use waypoints that are way over priced. This is a win win. You make more money, we get pretty ponies.

9. One time events that are really special. Mad king event was lame for the hype it got. It was cool, but no compared to the build up.

10. This again goes with the others, a real boss. Who is the freaking bad guy in this game? Why am I journeying through this place? I have zero scope on the story here. I read the quest and talk to random npc’s to figure it out, but all I get is there are some dragons that need to be stopped and I am going to stop them.

Anyway, my thots, blast them if you want.

Armor Types

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azthioth.9682

Azthioth.9682

Let me first say, I really like this game. The characters, abilities, and questing is a blast. That said, I have quit playing. The one thing that I asked about a lot before buying the game, and was assured it was not a big deal, has driven me away.

I asked, why do we have armor types? I got some ambiguous answer everytime.

It is not the armor types that made me quit, it was the idea behind them. Stick with me on this.

If everyone is equal at 80 in every way as far as DPS, survivablity, and possibilities, why do we have gear at all?

Doesn’t it seem odd to have rares at low levels since no one is supposed to be ahead? Isn’t it odd that plate gives better armor when we are all supposed to be the same?

Why not just have different skins to pick up and give us our stats through talents?

There just seems to be such a push to keep people off any kind of treadmill that gear has 0 point in this game. Let me be clear, I am not saying there needs to be a treadmill, I am just simply asking what is the point of gear at all?

You do not need it to beat a huge boss or new content, you do not need it to pvp since it is given to you right away, you don’t need it at all since you can never be ahead or need to be at a benchmark for anything.

When I realized this, it hit me that it really seems like lazy design. Not trying to be mean or cause the hardcore fans to go nuts, but if you can just normalize all the gear then a lot of work goes out the window. I mean, how many people are working at Blizz right now trying to get all sorts of numbers right for gear progression in PVE and PVP.

If you have no progression and can just design a pretty boss that dies quickly, then you don’t have to do that much work compared to other games.

What Anet has created is great, they just need to give it a purpose to exist. Anyone that says I play this game because it is fun and I hate competition is a liar. No one plays an MMO without a sense of competition. If it is not beating other players, then it is beating yourself or the AI or the TP.

I want to play this game, but I have no motivation to log in. Sure you can say this is not a game for me, but I am your average MMO player, not a flybynighter at all, but I want this to be a game for me and others as well. I don’t want it to sink.

Achieving everything is something that everyone will do and I will get the same rewards. It is not that I desire to be better than everyone else, I just want something to shoot for that makes my adventure feel like an epic purpose. I have never seen any tv show, movie, or game that has a hero that is simply running around killing things because it is fun, HE HAS A PURPOSE. It is either to get the mighty sword or slay the dragon that is terrorizing the village and needs a special weapon to kill him.

I would like goals that I cannot reach. I would like to look forward to something. Until then, happy hunting

TL;DR: Gear has no point, all the same things done by all the same people gives us nothing to strive for. Without perfection somewhere, there is no reason to strive for it.

Lack of rolls

Azthioth.9682

I have been wondering why I have not been alt crazy as I usually am when I play MMO’s.

It struck me today why I am not with GW2. It is simply the lack of rolls.

I always wanted to have a tank, healer and a few DPS of different types so I could be ready for anything my guild needed. Now, you don’t really need much of anything.

I mean, sure, having a war or guard in the group helps, but you don’t HAVE to have one. There is no, “become the best healer on the server,” thing going on. While I know that bothered some, it was always the chase that excited me.

Sadly, I have no reason to get another class to 80. PVP can be done at lvl 1 and it gives me no advantage to have all “classes” leveled.

I like GW2 but it made me sad when I realized this. I like the new dungeon set up, but it leaves a hole. But I guess that is how it is. Fix one problem, create another.

Fact is, the majority of folks will leave, especially after this Halloween stupidity, after several months.

No hard feelings, the game is fun but when you have no reason to play, people quit.

My favorite part of this all is listening to the fanboys say they hate grinding in all those other mmo’s but that is all this game is at 80. No mid/maxing, no skill adjusting, no experimentation, no world threatening monster that needs to be dealt with, no being the “best.” No. Just you, a few monsters, and your keyboard

Part of mmo’s is feeling like you are on a journey to be the best, but when you realize that you will never be special because of your effort, you stop trying.

I really wanted this game to work, but as the others have gone, so will this. Continue to flame on FB’s. God love’ya, but you will soon see.

The hell is wrong with you people? MMORPGS and all RPG’s are about progression. When progression ends, the game ends.

Seriously, are you so desperate to hold on to your little game that you will make up this kitten to make yourself feel better about playing a game past the point of usefulness?

We progress, therefore we are

If what you say is true, OP, then why not open the box, be at 80 and then sit on your thumbs in the city for hours a day? What you want is called a sandbox mmo, look it up. Any successful game of this genre has more to do than update your skins.

Looking forward to future game updates. “Come fight the big monster in the new zone so you can color your armor potato and carrots while using a new weapon skin to look like a Human toe! There will be no challenge and no gear requirement because in our world, everyone gets a chance!”

Point of endgame, defined by the community of MMO’s, Don’t give a kitten what your dictionary says, is to complete the progression to defeat the next level of enemy. Remove this simple concept and you have a failed game.

Unless Anet gets its game hat on, this game will be over quickly. People will run out of things to do and stop pushing to move forward for nothing.

At the lowest settings on a lower res, I am getting 15fps

I live in Peru and our internet is put together with string and cups so wanted to know if there was a connection between the to.

All drivers are uptodate…I think since the switchable graphics cards are braindamage to update and HP driver support is done by a monkey with no arms.

I haven’t found this to happen unless people were under geared and had no clue what was going on.

Players that understand how to use their characters and dodge can go all day with light healing.

There is always someone who never sees or has any problems and that person i never believe.

You can blag on about dodging, but I personally do not believe anyone who says they dodge most attacks. It is not possible. You have 4 mobs randomly selecting someone to shoot. First their animation are too small to see and secondly, you have no idea what direction to look because they are just running around doing as they please.

The point is not that it is not doable. It is that there is no order and that most strats revolve around chain rezzing and running back into the fight before it resets.

And even more to the point is that it is supposed to be the amazing new way of doing dungeons, but instead It is literally just a wow dungeon with all threat removed and a dodge added.

Absolute chaos.

This is supposed to be better? No order, no cc, crazy mobs with never ending cc running around all over the place randomly picking targets, kitten npc’s, and this is freedom?

How is dying over and over just to respawn to go back to the same fight challenging? It is just chain rezzing and chain respawning. I was expecting so much more from this, but in truth the dungeons are horrible.

I know you can jump on skype and try to chain your cc’s together but that will not stop a ranger from kicking your entire team 20 times in 1 fight because there is no solid cc.

The holy trinity was there for a reason. It worked. It gave order and an accepted challenge for each roll to accomplish. I don’t mind innovative thinking or trying new things, but it was just ridiculous. I would even say we had a good group and we did complete the dungeon, but it was even worse than any other mmo dungeon I have played.

Maybe I am missing something, but I will take my holy trinity back any day. Good thing this game is spot in for questing and pvp.
