Any side with an outnumbered buff should have a longer amount of time before a target, like a tower or castle, shows crossed swords, around 1 minute.

And every boonstrip on the enemy team, every buffing warrior/guard on your team is another reason to use Ruby Orbs + Squash Soup.
Tl; dr: You sacrifice too much to get those mightstacks.
I doubt you can maintain 15 stacks of might or get that much without the food and the runes tho, when i played 0 / 30 / 30 / 10 / 0 i averaged at 6-8
This might not be the end of all builds but it is sure fun as hell, and 25 might stacks feel kitten. Maintaining them thru out combat even more :P
If you maintain 24 might with food, 15% from Acrobatics and 60% runes, you can maintain 24 × 1.15 / 1.75 = 15.7 might without runes (but with food)
Simple math.So, if you remove the food, how much would you lose? 1? 2? Im sure with 14 stacks, the number wont change that much.
I might have just gotten home and been drinking, but Im pretty sure that site cnt account for stacks or duration increases or how much you gain and stuff. Making the EP stat it lists useless. Which is why earlier int eh day before I was drinking I posted a lot of maths I had to do to show whether or not it increased damage and by how much compared to other stuff.
Sorry? Not sure what you want to say. You can calculate your Epower with might on this site.
Would be quite interesting if you could try it out so we can see which is better, to go for the runes or for the orbs.

It’s kind of funny how people don’t seem to understand how broken retaliation is right now in wvw (in the maps where it hasn’ t been nerfed yet)
Simply put, if you haven’t noticed what a ridiculous amount of damage retal does, it’s because you’re not really contributing to the fight.
You’re probably doing l33t single target dps against that one guy in the 40 vs 40 fight. Then yeah, you won’t notice retal.
Actually, XIV, far from it. I’m a ranger – almost 23K HP, 1546 Toughness, 2610 Armor, and use Longbow and GS primarily. I use barrage as much as possilbe, AOEing in zergs regularly with it. I average 45 – 60 kills per hour. (I believe that’s pretty decent. Lvl 78 Major with 23,328 WvW kills atm that I’ve contributed to.) And I play on EB and the BLs.
I use healing spring, signet of stone and food to deal with damage. And, no, retaliation is not a big deal for me.
A guardian is a pin cushion just like anybody else – in a zerg or otherwise! ;-)

So far the competitors are so bad that Gw2, even with all its flaws, it’s prolly best option on the market atm.

Coming from a mesmer this is quite laughable. Spec phantasm get 3 zerkers out, thiefs eats burst as soon as he leaves stealth from 3 zerkers everytime. If he keeps CnDing ur zerkers down just recast, thief wont be damaging you if he decides to kill ur phantasms
Because he thinks being the first to show footage with him duelling someone with the spec is enough to allow him to wear the self proclaimed title. Actually that duel did show the clear cut counter to it but what ever.
I guess being the first one to bring my build into competitive play doesn’t cut it.

Before Curse, having a thief was viewed as a liability and it was difficult for even me to find a team even willing to try to play with a thief. Even I myself was questioning whether this experimental build that seems to do ok in hotjoins would even work.
Others even laughed at the idea of it being played in tournaments.

i have used double S/D with 30 into acro like months ago in PvE and WvW and several of my guild mates did too, perma evade builds existed long before the flank strike buff so yea…

Just one thing, why are you calling urself father of double S/D? People have been using the build you play long before the flanking buff…
Possibly a good reason thieves’ stealth hasn’t been nerf, is their presence in a large scale battle has never changed the outcome of a battle. Which is also why Ele’s and Mesmers have been nerfed, being able to perform amazing feats like portal bombing, aoe area control and actually blocking treb fire.
When Anet created theif, they created the only class in the game that has no passive guard. A class that has to actively avoid all damage. To make this manageable they equipped them with an illusion to keep as much damage focus off them as possible. On top of that they worked this stealth illusion deeply into their offenses. Thus you have a class is dependent on stealth for defense and attack.
On top of that they removed the thief class’ traditional primary target. The support healer. Traditionally a party’s backbone was the healer and if the healer died, their party fell soon after. Thief’s role was to take them out so the party would would fall. That was Thief’s big impact. However now everyone’s their own support, Thief has lost their target, their role and their way to make a big impact.Anet knows all this, how they’re dependent on stealth, and how they don’t make a significant impact on big battles in WvW. This is probably why Anet hasn’t touched stealth.

That lone thief roamer makes no difference in the outcome of a WvW siege or whatever. The only thing they can do in WvW is cut enemy supply which they are very good at, but thats abt it.
That one thief ganking you doesnt change anything in WvW.
I have a feeling that A-Net will make changes to the thief tho in order to shut these whiners up. They would have to completely revamp the class tho because any nerfs to stealth will render the thief useless. We will see how it’s gonna play out. I love reading all the crying tho, very amusing :P

They are skins, why you feel entitled to having them? It’s something that cannot be traded, purely luck based and that has no effect on the game.Taking out all of the “wow!” moments from a game, turning it into a slow and grindy progress towards a goal you know exactly how much you’ll have to work for, is, to ME, BORING, and thats exactly why i dont go for legendaries.
If anything, i hope anet adds MORE of this kind of drops, in the same line as Final Rest, only not tradable.

I’m at 40 and i know that you can do dailys several times a day, but that doesnt mean it feels any less progressive.
See the point is, i dont mind a long grind… i really dont. I have crafted a legendary which is a very long grind. The problem i have with fractal weapons is that you have no feeling of progression towards it, it’s not like “today i’m gonna do a bit of it and tomorrow i will be a bit closer to my goal”. It’s more like either get it or dont. Repeat untill you are lucky.

I also have a goal, I want to enjoy the game (which is doable) and have a bad kitten looking character. Unfortunately, I’ve exhausted all PvE content, and my character wants some awesome weapon skins that I’ll never be obtain without moving into a huge grind. So? Should I quit? Well, I don’t want, and I’m pretty sure ANET doesn’t want me to. But ANET does force people into this awkward position I’m in by having a lot of endgame skins locked behind very long and difficult grinds. PvP isn’t for anyone, and as a result I’m left with very little to do but to look at long grinds as being required.
Now, long grinds don’t have to be absent, Legendaries are fine, but I like to have goals set in front of me that I can see noticeable progress being made on. This isn’t present in a grind like the fractal weapons where it’s all random, or with precursors as another example.
So… it’s ok for there to be skins that are long grinds to work towards so long as they’re not the skins you want? That’s how this appears to be coming across. Legendary weapon skins – OK to have a long grind. You want Fractal skin – therefore not OK to have a long grind. You’re making the choice to go after something you know flat out is meant to be rare to get. The odds are small, meaning it’s possible you never get one (and of course possible you get one today). Now, you can kick up your odds, if I recall this correctly, by doing multiple dailies in Fractals (each ten levels is a different daily), but it is what it is… a rare drop meant to be a rare drop.
So you think it is reasonable to let someone do the SAME content DAILY for over a year?
Now something to think for you, 384 dailys on AVERAGE that means it could take u well over 500+ up to 1k. I have done a bit under 100 dailys and i have not made any progression so far towards my goal because it’s all RNG. Someone could do 20+ daily for the first time and get something i have spent hours upon hours onto? You think that makes me feel like “Hell yea, gonna do fractal daily for the 101th time now maybe i get the skin i want !!!”

I dont give a crap about long grinds (i have crafted Bolt FYI, atleast that grind offered some variety) but atleast make them progressive not this stupid “repeat this 1h content everyday for 300+ days untill the RNG gives u what you are working towards, or maybe not.”

Good news. Both grinds are optional. If you do them, it’s by choice, not necessity.
You know what? I hear this argument A LOT. In fact on just about anything that is in this games “endgame”. It’s optional so you don’t have to do it. But everything is like this, so what’s there left to do? NOTHING.
It’s a problem, your solution isn’t a solution. Anet has decided to add tremendous grinds to this game, and while their all optional it doesn’t prevent the absurd grinds in this game from being a determent to the game as a whole.
Everything should have a recipe associated with it, finding it would be an awesome bonus which is why the system in currents form is fine, but without being to actually craft it in anyway it becomes a MEGA grind. The fact you can’t get rid of them also makes it incredibly frustrating when you get stuff you don’t need and can’t do anything but salvage it.
You may have heard the argument, but you’ve never understood the argument. This isn’t one of those old-style MMOs where you need to keep up with the Jones in order to stay competitive. Exotics practically grow on trees, and actually greens and yellows are good enough for the vast majority of things to do. Ascended is fluff. Marginal stat increases gained by a dedicated time investment, nothing more, nothing less. You want the rings? Hey, Fractals or dailies are there. You want the skins from Fractals? Well, you have a chance to go for it if you wish. Yes, they’re tough to get… otherwise everyone would have them and people would be complaining about there being nothing left to grind for.
Are you going for a specific skin? Or maybe have it already? I’m really curious.
Also, i’m not complaining that they should be handed out like hot cakes, they should be rare. But the RNG system is just bad design. You think spending 384 hours doing nothing but fractals is good game design? No, it’s demotivating.

Only can say about WvW, havent tried in PvE nor PvP.
This trait has been changed with the recent patch? I moved much faster while stealthed before the patch now it feels like not worth taking anymore.

1. Very old. Thought it would be well known among the thief community that D/P can grant perma stealth if you have the correct traits.

You know with current system, someone who just done fractal daily 20 for the first time could be getting the skin he wants, while someone who did it for the last 3 months never got the desired skin, rite? He could have gotten 3x harpoon + 2x speargun or some crap like that.
So the “new” fractal player will be running around with the skin he wanted while the “pro” fractal player gets wrecked by RNG… because thats how the current system works my friend.
Turning in 3 weapons you don’t need for one you want would be cool.

Am i the only one who is quite sick of the RNG regarding fractal weapon skins? The drop rate is already low enough but then you have to be lucky to get the desired skin out of the 19 or so available. It is really frustrating.
Why not make them purchasable with Pristine Relics? I dont mind a high amount like 30 or even 50 but atleast we can be sure to get the desired items. With the current system you could do 200 dailys and get 5x harpoons or some kitten like that.

Ah, sorry about that. As a designer I click my mind into a state where I see a problem and try to mentally design a solution to it regardless of its level of sarcasm. That being said, I do like item rewards, but there’s a downside to it in that it’s not always the item you want. There are other games I have played where I would kill a boss 20-30 times and not get the specific item I wanted, and I would just have to keep at it and hope I got lucky. I much prefer the system we have right now where there is a guaranteed token reward to allow me to buy whatI want… although I have been giving thought to a system that also reflects our personal story reward structure, where you could potentially choose one of three things offered at random. Again, just thoughts, but I’m always trying to develop better ways to reward players in dungeons.
Why are the Fractal Weapon skins an exception tho? I mean the drop rate is already veeeery low but on top you might get one that you dont need at all…

I’ve done over 150 20+ dailies and I still don’t have the shortbow which I want the most, I do have 1 fractal dagger though. So generally unless u want to spend a LOT of time farming fractals without the item guaranteed I wouldn’t bother, it won’t stop me to keep farming though, especially now that anet nerfed my beloved corrupted shortbow skin.
That sounds depressing to be honest…

It is sword #2 skill….it even shows it on the tool bar when he is using it. It teleports you to the person and then you can push it again to teleport back to your spot you left from.
It’s not sword 2. Look at :03, :06, and :07 in the video. The enemy thief is constantly moving away from OP, not towards him then away like he would be if he were using Infilrator’s Strike. Shadow Return shows up on the OP’s tool bar, but not the toolbar of the enemy thief. At :06 he manages to port back twice while spamming Unload, which takes Sword #2 and P/D #3 out of the equation.
The FX is coming from his Quickness.
He has 2 Signets + Quickness as Utility, Thief as Elite. You might argue that his Quickness doesnt come from Utility but Trait / Sigil but those only last 2 seconds and the Thiefs quickness is def 4s which is the Utility.
To be perfectly honest, that looks like good old fashioned lag.
Seen it multiple times in many MMO’s, basically having a poor connection makes it nigh impossible for other people to know where exactly you are as it will appear to other people that you’re teleporting about.
Yea maybe its lag it just looked rly fishy, i was fighting that dude like half an hour before i made that video and it was the same, he kept porting around all the time.
I would understand, if it was some other MMO with like 30 skills +30 macros on skill bars, but in GW2 you have only 10 skills available at the time. Yet, you fail to watch even half of them, which is five.

The thief is running P/P the whole time + 2 Signets + Quickness so am i missing something here?
You’re prolly talking Sword #2 but you if he would be using that he would have gotten a buff “Shadowreturn” on his buff bar but he never applys that buff in my video so he’s not using that. He spams unload while hes porting backwards so he’s not using P/D either, hes using P/P.
You can see him port several times but he never has the Shadowreturn buff on his Toolbar
For example at 0:06 where he ports backwards several times also at 0:16 where he ports forward
You can also see my CnD missing 2 times when im def in melee range
But maybe hes doing it legitly i dont know, thats why im asking ^^

Problem is you need the 2 per 10 so unless you go 30 into acro it would be hard to pick up but then you don’t have those 10 points to put into crit or whatever to help your damage.
Hehe, i thought the same before i tried it out. Gain 2 Ini per 10 secs is nice and needed if you want to have 100% stealth uptime but im running without it and it works good enough. Stealth uptime is at around 80-90% if you start doing the rotation with full Ini.

I tried D/P on swap but didn’t like it. I think it’s because I replaced con remove with 2 init/stealth. I should have replaced blind. Might try it again. Still don’t think I could live without the 2/10 though. The set just eats up so much init.

Hehe, i thought the same before i tried it out. Gain 2 Ini per 10 secs is nice and needed if you want to have 100% stealth uptime but im running without it and it works good enough. Stealth uptime is at around 80-90% if you start doing the rotation with full Ini.

If don’t need Fleet Shadow i recommend Might on Dodge / Vigor on Healing
it could be an decent healing
however , if you spam cluster bombs with shortbow and omnomberry ghost you can get 5x 352 /cluster or 3*352 / trick shot
with enough defence (2700 + ) you can facetank 10-20 mobs

I use that when i run dungeons together with SoM. (works very well with a sword in the main hand too)
What i posted has its best use in WvW because it’s not target dependant. You dont need X amount of enemy around to take full advantage of the healing.

Assassins Reward is definately a good trait to use on any build. Pain Response is another. The breakdown for Assassins Reward is like this:
At level 80, this heals you for 69 + (0.035 x healing power) per point of initiative spent. Healing is applied in one sum at the end of the skill animation.
So for example, I have +588 healing power. CnD costs 6 Init. This in turn heals me for 89.58 ( 69 + 20.58 ) per init spent. Since CnD costs 6 init, every time I use it I’ll heal for 537. And after that I’ll stay in stealth for 3-4 seconds and get heals from Shadows Rejuv. It’s a great trait to pick up.
Yea man definetly. Never really tried it out before but really fell in love with it. CnD heals around 800 instantly everytime you use it if u have 30 in SA too.
My post was more about the synergy between the self combo + Shadow rejuv + assassins reward which heals so fast while being completely invisible the whole time. Whenever i’m at around 50% health i swap weapons spam this for 9s untill i can swap again and come out with near full hp again. It’s really game changing on a “bunker” / control type S/D thief.
I wonder how much health u gain per second with full healing gear doing this, sadly im short on gold atm ^^

Was playing around with my S/D traits because i wanted to use D/P on my second weapon set to have access to the stealth self combo. Many of you probably know that it’s possible to achieve perma stealth with D/P which i wanted to integrate into my S/D build. While testing various trait setups i kinda stumbled across something really cool.
If you go 30 into SA and pick up Shadow’s Rejuvenation and spend another 20 points into Acrobatics to get Assassins Reward you heal very fast while doing the perma stealth combo. I really recommend trying this out if you’re playing a rather tanky S/D build because you can heal urself back to full really fast and it has absolutely no cooldown. I ended up going 0 / 20 / 30 / 20 / 0 to maintain some dps (my old one was 0 / 30 / 30 / 10 / 0 ).
Here’s a video to showcase the healing capability (I have 576 Healing P. in this video, 300 from traits and 276 from gear). I regenerate 13k hp in around 18 seconds here. As you can see here tho there are some small windows where you are visible but stealth uptime in D/P is at around 90%. To achieve perma stealth you have to pick 1 different trait but the healing wont be nearly as high.
