yes, but getting more and more frequent, and happening much more frequently on land (used to be common only underwater). I think since we have zero formal guidance, we may as well treat this as “working as intended” rather than a bug. I used to avoid underwater combat unless it was essential for story line – not sure how to avoid underwater AND above water “invulnerable”…
This is just one of a huge number of bugs that exist in several different professions, have existed forever, and are not likely to be fixed any time soon – best bet is to change your play style to fit what actually works, or just stop playing. If you re-roll, I strongly advise against thief, ranger, and mesmer as they are far more heavily bugged than engineer, and despite being reported in these forums repeatedly we are not seeing any fixes.
This has happened to me several times both in and out of party, starting exactly just after the latest patch came through.
For those who have not been following the threads in bugs and discussion about loot drops, magic find does not work as advertised. Instead you get less loot, and out of that loot you get less equipment and more fines, bags and salvageables.
Again, magic find is only beneficial if you are needing crafting materials.
This is the conclusion of the many, many users who have found that MF gear actually works against them, but it should be noted that there has been no official response about this bug/issue (as per usual). It sure would be nice if players could get the info needed to make wise decisions rather than playing this guessing game – very frustrating that we are being ignored again.
They have proven time and time again that they don’t care about the problems they cause us players, our wasted time, or low quality game play. The things they care about are things that allow players to accumulate gold, or get through content quickly (things that are hot fixed immediately). They have ignored hundreds of game play issues listed ad-nausea in these forums, so there won’t be a PTR any time soon.
Like so many other skill points, you need to wait for a server reboot to have a chance at this. Leave your character close to the skill point, then the next time there is a server reboot, immediately login to that character, and join the dozen or so other folks doing the same thing, and get your skill point before it glitches again until the next reboot.
Weird there has not been a response to this. The issue is still in game
from the typical response from anet. they only worry about things that help players succeed . things that allowed us to do things easier or get rewards are fixed immediately and issues that cost us huge sums of grief and money are ignored.
this exactly – more of the same here.
I posted earlier about this problem – losing game time after a strange disconnect, then a long login screen that jumps back and forth between Lion’s Arch and my current location – not fun.
from my experience I thought the gift was a rare spawn – I saw 2 gifts out of about a dozen large boxes opened – not worth the time/trouble, just leave them alone.
my characters randomly get locked in place from time to time. most times i just need to spam one of the wasd keys to get moving again, some times it requires a dodge roll to release the lock – been that way since launch.
Been happening since beta.
yes it has, but it keeps getting more prominent. this has destroyed underwater content for me (it happens every single time), and is now creeping onto land as well. For a while there I could swim up to a mob, engage them at their original location, never move an inch, never dodge any damage, and be able to kill them without this bug – now doing this has no effect – they still go invuln, get back to 100% health, and then attack again. If I could avoid underwater combat completely, it might be ok, but that’s not possible, and now it’s happening on land too.
Since Wintersday patch, I’ve been booted out of the game at least 8 times now with the "no connection to login server" error (or similar). I’m able to log back in immediately, but am placed about 10 minutes back in time - I lose ~10 minutes of game play each time. I monitor my Internet connection, and have had no issues with it since the latest patch, so I believe it’s related to the patch. Anyone else seeing this?
I have experienced this as well – taking damage with no indication as to the source, too far away from mobs for it to be physical, since latest patch, especially true with mobs that come out of present boxes.
I think what is really needed here is a list of which Runes and Sigils actually work as their tool tips state, and (more importantly) which do not. There are many that have not been functional (per their tool tips) since the start of the game. If neither the item, nor the tool tips, are going to be fixed, we at least need a listing of which ones are broken so that players stop wasting game funds purchasing the broken ones.
My Ranger has been idle for quite some time now, and will continue to sit idle due to this, and the other major flaws/bugs that make playing it zero fun. Please fix this pet issue, and also the sword “locked on attack no way to dodge” bug, and consider un-doing the recent nerf that was enacted not because the Ranger was considered over-powered, but because it was the easiest way for you to fix a graphic bug where our #1 SB attack was out of sync with the actual speed of the attack. Or just remove the Ranger from the game – if it’s not worth fixing the class, there is no reason having it out there in its current broken form.
I absolutely hate this mechanic too, and really like the sword/torch setup aside from this bug (i sure hope it’s a bug). If it’s not a bug, then I suggest removing the sword as a weapon option for Ranger, as it breaks the game mechanic of being able to dodge incoming damage.
Wait, you’re telling me slow-motion when aggro’ed is a BUG and not normal? what! So rangers are the only classes that get slowed while trying to run through fields of mobs?? I honestly thought this was a game mechanic…
Ranger plus pet has a much, much larger aggro range than other professions, so we are greatly more affected by this mechanic than any other class. We are not asking for a change to the mechanic, just for the ability to put the pet away when we want to, so that we can enjoy the same travel times as other professions.
My problem is that 99% of the bots I see these days are teleporting between mining nodes, and are only there for a brief time. Most often I can’t get them clicked in time to report them, and I have no idea how to report them with just their name.
I have this as well – find a Thief with the 25% speed bonus, and they will pull away from you in a hurry. I don’t believe Thieves get a full 25% bonus, but it’s faster than what we have now.
I’m amazed that people expect an answer here – there are several story quests, skill points, and parts of dungeons that have been bugged since day one, and completely ignored. The only “bugs” that get fixed are the ones that affect gem store sales (like the recent dye issue, and the bot problem a while back). I think we should “all” go take a fresh look at the MMO Manifesto video – game built for the players, no grinding, etc. Oh, by “all” I don’t mean just players. That manifesto is why I cancelled my sub to that other MMO, and came here, but I think it’s been replaced with chasing the mighty dollar for the year-end.
This happens to me several times every time I play, with each of my 5 toons – more frequent underwater. If I run to the enemy, plant myself there, do not move an inch, then it does not happen, but if I avoid any damage by moving/dodging it’s likely to result in this glitch (by likely i’d guess 5-10%). There is almost 100% chance of this happening if a second mob walks over to engage me when I already have one mob engaged – the second mob gets down to less than 5% health, then goes invuln, walks back to where it started, then comes back to attack again w/ full health. If I let it walk back to me, it will happen over and over.
I’m guessing this is caused by forcing everyone to patch at the same time by releasing a patch when the servers are busy, which is truly poor customer service on Anet’s part. I’ve never gotten this error before today. Let’s hope they don’t make a habit of this.
I was just running a chain event in Harathi Hinterlands with about 100 other players when I got the countdown telling me I would be kicked in 2:45 for client update. It was between events in the chain, and I didn’t want to miss the rest, so I logged out to allow the update. Upon logging out, I find that it’s a huge update (>8500 files), and it’s coming very, very slowly (less than 100k/sec on my 60MB/sec pipe-confirmed speed via SpeakEasy). Why boot players when the servers are busy? Especially for large update? Very bush league.
Anet’s DR works FOR the bots, AGAINST players – you are making it impossible for real players to get what they need unless they purchase it from botters. Figure it out Anet, the only way to fix this problem is to get rid of the bots – hire some GMs and do it, or witness the migration away from your game.
I’m going to guess this is another DR “fix” – make it impossible for players to get the mats, force them to hit the auction house and purchase them from bots. DR works FOR the bots, AGAINST real players – figure it out Anet.
it’s clear that there are huge number of bugged skill points across all servers affecting likely close to 100% of the player base – can we please get a dev post with an update on these? maybe explain whey you won’t even reboot the servers at a set time each day so we could get a few minutes/hours of play-ability at least?

I never played GW1, but find it hard to believe that this company was ever responsive to players. It’s just sad that yet another good game is going to fail due to ignoring the player base.
Good luck – they are not addressing ANYTHING for the past week at least – time for them to fix stuff, tell us why they are not fixing it, or prepare to lose the majority of their player base. I really can’t believe this is Arena Net treating the player base like this.
going on 2 weeks now for Sanctum of Raul, and more skill point bugs are popping up every day. It’s gotten to the point where I am surprised when one actually works – sure would be nice to hear from Arena Net on this issue. We’ve been very patient, they need to give some feedback now, or fix the problems now, doing neither is indefensible.
I loved this game too, and would like to continue, but the fact is that things are getting worse as we move forward, not better. There are more issues now than there were at launch, and we are getting absolutely nothing from Arena Net in the way of posts letting us know why nothing is getting fixed, and more stuff is breaking every day. I can be very understanding, but not when you won’t give us any updates – what’s the deal?
Hi – could we get some dev guidance here? There are several of these that are broken, mia, not resetting, and it’s been going on for at least several days. How about give us an idea when we can expect these to be fixed – it’s costing too much to keep checking on them daily, especially when it’s been going on for so long with no end in sight.
these NPCs seem to come back after a reboot, but reboots are no longer a nightly event, and then they seem to get re-bugged after a while until the next reboot. the best workaround i have found is to login during a busy time (evening), go to Lion’s Gate, get put on the overflow server, then choose to “Leave Queue” – now go back to the missing NPCs on the overflow server. so far, they have all been available on the overflow server – my guess is that they reboot the overflow server at least every day, so the hung NPCs get reset much more often. Arena Net – how about an option to move to the overflow server even when it’s not busy? Since it’s taking weeks to fix these issues, it would be nice to have the option of trying the overflow server to see if they are available there without waiting for prime time.
I was one of the excited players of SWTOR at the start, and did not quit because of the problems they had, but because of the response that SWTOR had toward the players – it was basically “yes we have identified this problem, but have to plans to fix it, so deal with it” – zero support, they did not care at all for us, just our money.
I got rolled back last night for the first time, and have lost items before (no way to get them back), and also got stuck with multiple items from the BLTC (ah) – it told me that the item did not exist when i tried to purchase, and that i should reload and try again – the next morning, i had several of the item waiting for me, and silver missing to pay for them. Not passing judgement yet, but Arenanet needs to address these types of issues in a more player-centric manner than SWTOR did – I believe they will, and am happy to give them some more time to work on the kinks in this awesome game, but my patience is not unlimited.
I lost almost 100% of the completion of Ebonhawke, including skillpoints, a level, and the silver. Also tried to purchase a new axe at BLTC (ah) last night, and was unable to do so – tried again this morning, and there are 6 of them waiting for me at the BLTC, and the funds removed from my account to pay for them – bummed.
