Scribing crafting materials for decorations

Hi all,
I was just looking for some help with some of the harder to find materials like the various lumber cores, grass seeds, etc. The descriptions say that you should be able to find it through harvesting in the various locations around the world but I’ve been trying since HoT came out and I haven’t seen a single thing. Is there some skill or mastery I’m missing? The wiki has no real information that I’ve been able to find.
Any help would be much appreciated! My guildmates would love to have a lot of plants in our hall.
Thanks.

I’ll admit, I’m pretty puzzled by the requirement to use crystalline ore to purchase the basic decorations to be upgraded, especially as it’s a currency that’s account bound and the decorations themselves are account bound. So, besides that it’s difficult to get for things that are the very basic, no one can help you. The entire idea behind the halls (I thought) was for your guildmates to work together for upgrading. With this requirement, no one else can help me with materials.
This might be something that should be revisited in the future.
Adding my 2 cents in to the request to make it opt out, if not for this time than in the future. I know it’s one day, I know there was a way to change the color, but not everyone finds the same sort of thing funny. I was in just long enough for the daily chest today and logged out because I couldn’t stand how it looked.
It’s like the bobblehead labs that are always all over. I can’t stand how it looks myself, but I know people really like them. So I don’t use the lab and they do and it’s all fine.
I’ve been having a tough time with this part of the Collections, I don’t know if it’s just bad luck on my part or what… though that’s part of the issue. I came into collecting the various parts a little late and have been having a hard time finding maps that are actually doing the events now that the initial mad rush for the Vinewrath has died down.
For the last few days at least, almost every map I’ve entered has been far more invested in doing massive chest farms than the events. I don’t have a problem with that, the whole, play the way you want thing. The issue I have is that I have most of the organs still to collect and I can’t. There is no possible way I can do these things alone or with the two or three people that seem interested.
If there was some other way to get the organs it wouldn’t be as frustrating, I’d be willing to put the time in if I needed a ton of crests or whatever, but locking content behind a map full of people doing a thing after the initial bloom has passed really isn’t fair.
Does anyone know if Hero of the People is supposed to be working yet? I haven’t seen anything.
Yeah, no. I’d have paid gems for it straight up but with having to buy keys then having no guarantee of getting one of these things? Not happening. And, of course, the price on the Black Lion is going to be absurd for the few that people manage to find.
It’s disappointing that they went that route.
Hello,
Members of my guild ran into an issue tonight and I’m not sure if it’s related to a change in the update today or an issue because of the server problems tonight.
We were doing the story instance for the new LS season 2 in Fort Salma when two of our party members disconnected. On their return to the game, they were not allowed to rejoin our group, instead they were removed to their own instance. I understand there was a part of the update where the ‘join party’ is no longer enabled if you’re in a different zone, but it doesn’t make much sense to disallow people from being able to complete content with a group.
Is this working as intended? Will this behavior happen during dungeons or fractals as well? Is there some other way to rejoin a group if someone disconnects? Having to have the entire group restart what they’re doing or have a member miss out is… not very user friendly. Please advise.
As I understand it, we were no longer supposed to get Mystery Tonics in Black Lion Chests. I got a few keys this weekend via purchased gems and got tonics in a chest. After submitting a ticket, I was told that they could not replace those with something that should have been in the chest.
Please approach opening chests with caution until they sort this bug out. It’s a shame to get have a quarter of what you’re getting be completely useless (imo)
I’ve been having a problem for a couple weeks now where every time I’m in Frostgorge waiting for the Claw of Jormag to start, or during the event itself, my game crashes. It’ll happen enough times that I finally get kicked to a server instance where the event isn’t happening. It’s likely not an issue with my computer as I can do every other boss event with no trouble and minimal lag.
Is anyone else having this issue or has suggestions on a fix? I’m submitting the crash report every time but it keeps happening.
Please put back a venue for transferring runes/sigils from armor and weapons to armor and weapons. It’s absurd to have to repurchase these items (which are sometimes extremely expensive) or to have to buy items from the gem store in able to keep them. And no. Black Lion kits are not the answer either, as there’s no guarantee that you’ll have any on hand without having to purchase them from the gem store.
Apologies if I missed this somewhere but I’m confused. Now that there’s no transmuting anymore, how do I keep my runes if I upgrade armor? Am I stuck with salvaging the old armor and praying that the rune is kept?
(same issue with weapons, come to think of it) Any help would be greatly appreciated.
We do understand and sincerely apologize that there are creative combinations of town clothes that will not exist anymore. Many have asked why remove town clothes as a concept. It boils down to we believe better armor skinning and the outfit system is something we can add more options to more often and will produce a better supported RP game for everyone with more variety in the future. In short, a healthier game.
Incorrect. There are no combinations of town clothes that will exist anymore, not just ‘creative combinations’. By definition, if you cannot separate parts of an outfit to combine with others and if you cannot combine a tonic with anything, there are no combinations. There are a set of what, 3-5 canned outfits that you can dye but will look no different from any other set except for if they have a hat or not.
To expand more on what I mean by better support, It helps if you think of town clothes as a 4th weight class of armor. Clothing was meant to offer visual options that break the class roles, however we were never completely happy with the way it was isolated from the rest of the game and still felt largely the same. Many pieces could have easily been mistaken for light or medium armor. In many ways it was more akin to building an alt character because town-clothes and armor were so separated. Additionally, every time we added something to town-clothes, it didn’t really help someone building their light, medium, or heavy look. And there was no way to add combat gear fairly without creating 3 versions on the back end (light, medium, and heavy). As a customization platform and sustainable expansion design it left a lot to be desired.
I can’t speak for everyone, but at least for me this is entirely missing the point of town clothes. My primary character is a Guardian. He runs around 90% of the time in full armor. When I was RPing with friends… I did not want him in armor. I wanted him in actual clothing (in this case shirt or hoodie and riding pants). The absolute last thing I was interested in right then was him wearing MORE ARMOR.
When we started looking at bringing more of the clothing back into armor with mix and match styles there are some fundamental incompatible things between weight classes. (part of how we set up every armor to allow many dye channels and styles per piece).. There really is no way at this point over six years since we started development to make absolutely everything work together. So we needed something new to continue to grow in the future.
Outfits give us a way to create highly stylized looks that aren’t constrained to armor slots or weight class. In addition to armor skins that are easier and cheaper to collect across characters and the account dye system we do believe the options across a players whole account are much more attractive now. You’ll see more outfits coming out this summer and additions to the game more often usable by your characters. We try not to allow too much ‘hoarder’ design where we just keep stacking more and more options on leaving lots of unsupported things hanging around. Yes, we do have to give up some of our current closet space and clothing to fit the new wardrobe in. Again, apologies for that.
As many people have said, unless the new outfits that are coming are able to be broken into pieces, you are reducing the options for customization, not increasing them. To have a canned outfit that cannot be altered is very restrictive, especially as there are many pieces that look better or worse depending on the species of your character. I have things on a norn I wouldn’t put on a sylvari, etc, for those aesthetic reasons.
As always we ask you to try out the new system of customization and see what’s available to you. I think many people will be surprised by how many pieces have become armor compatible. We hope the benefits to the outfit system and wardrobe in terms of future support and additions will be clear, and you can look forward to more new outfits coming very soon.
To be honest, I’m having a hard time believing that I’ll be interested in anything new that would come out ‘outfit’-wise, if nothing else because I’m not confident at all that anything I would purchase would be usable in the future. I do understand that game content changes, and part of the user agreements is that a company can do so.
However, town clothes are items that were purchased with real funds, and they will now be radically altered from their original design and function. They will exist in a form that I would have never purchased were they laid out that way at that time. So while I think everything else in this upcoming path sounds fantastic, it’s very disappointing that this had to be included.
If I don’t want a tonic, can I get a gem refund for the purchase?
Customer support will be able to fulfill gem refund requests only for town clothes that become endless tonics. Such requests must be made after the Town Clothes system changes take effect; refund requests cannot be processed prior to the April Feature Build. Customer Support is not able to fulfill requests for refunds other than those related to Town Clothes that become endless tonics. This means that town clothes that become skins are not eligible for a refund.Quoted by said page
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/45944258-Town-Clothesi suggest people read this page tbh
BUT if you read closer anything sold AS A SINGLE PIECE will become a skin like all of the regular armor. So only the FULL outfits are being changed to be a single skin, all of the individual piece items are going to function BETTER than they do right now.
People will still complain.
Item number three.
“Some promotional town clothing, such as the Dragon Emblem T-shirt and retired town clothes such as the hoodies, will become endless tonics which allow you to continue to wear the clothing in non-combat situations. "
The followup question “Can I mix and match town clothes”
Items related to endless tonics cannot be mixed or dyed.
If you read the article, the ONLY things that will not be turned into tonics are the items that were sold as full outfits, cooks, Winter’sday, pirates, mad king, etc and the head pieces that were sold as single items.
The ‘outfits’ will become single items that you can only equip as a full set. The single item HEAD pieces will become armor skins.
All the other town clothes items, the shirts, the vests, the hoodies, the riding pants, etc, will become endless tonics that you can only equip one of at a time, (so no mixing shorts and hoodies anymore for example) and that will not be dyeable.
Please see this thread https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Feedback-Questions-Town-clothes-Costumes-Combat/first and the half handful of dev replies. We’re all out of luck for the town clothes.
I’m confused. I currently have the kahki shorts on my Norn, when this change is made is it going to be replaced by a tonic? Will that Tonic just replace the pants on my character with the shorts or will or will it now change all my clothes with something they think goes with the shorts?
Also I bought glasses for several of my characters, are they becoming tonics? will it swap all my clothes just because I want to put some glasses on?
That right there is the question that people keep asking that we’re waiting for clarification on. Because right now, it looks like you’ll be stuck with undyeable, unmixable tonics. I’m holding out hope that they’ll be more specific and say that’s not true.
That’s not quite the same sort of change though. These aren’t duplicates (and yes, this is with the assumption of town clothes being changed into potions, which has yet to be clarified by Anet, so there is still speculation here.) You will still have the town clothes as items, their function will just have been radically changed. So I’m not sure if it’ll be treated the same way. I hope so, but there’s so much up in the air right now.
Before you get too excited, you might want to check out the other wardrobe threads about this. There are outstanding questions out right now about town clothes and how they will be affected by this change. There’s a lot of conflicting information out there from Anet and some of us are waiting for more specific answers.
What will the process be to refund our gems for the costumes that will now become simply cut and paste copies of the outfits the hundreds of thousands of other people who purchased these costumes are wearing.
Open a support ticket for it. You’ll get your gems back, don’t worry.
While I am devoutly hoping that this issue is all a mis-communication and not as horrible as it sounds, I do wonder how you’re so convinced that refunds are a thing that will happen. I’m not trying to give you a hard time, I’m honestly curious why you think they will?
My sole issue at this point is we’re getting some very contradictory information about how this will work with town clothes. Yes, it’s a minor thing, but this is something that people spent money on, and there’s answers from Anet folks in at least two places that are totally different.
The endless tonic will grant the appearance of the clothing it replaced. (along with some appropriate complimentary pieces so you’re not naked). They are new tonics, not existing ones.
Only one tonic can be used at one time.
There will be no town-clothes swap any more.. so you won’t be switching to naked.
So, just so I’m understanding correctly, if I bought a hoodie, one of the shirts, and the riding pants, as I detest the defaulted town clothes for male norns, after this patch I will no longer be able to mix and match these things as I am currently doing, nor will I be able to change the dyes as I am currently.
If this isn’t correct, could we get some more clarification? (yes, I know the patch isn’t even live yet). If it is correct, I’ve spent a fair bit of money on gems that is now wasted.
That is the case. Same situation here, except for more than 1 character…
Oh, I have it on more than one too, that was just an example. I think the problem is, they’re being very vague about what counts as an ‘outfit’ and what counts as a ‘no longer available item that is a potion’. I think if we could get a more concrete answer that would be very helpful as I was very excited for the rest of the news and would like it to stay that way.

Bleh. Thanks, guys. I hope they do something about it too. I’m significantly less interested now, as expensive as it’ll be to put together.
I tried searching but couldn’t find anything (unless I was doing it wrong, entirely possible). Does anyone know if the Shadow of Grenth and the Light of Dwayna are upgradeable in the Forge like the other ascended back items?
I also checked the wiki, it doesn’t say on the main page for the items and the discussion section is inconclusive.
Thank you for any help!
Please, just no. Or at least not all of them. Some of us don’t have the resources to field a guild of 100 people to do it.
No, it’s not FF profitable because you don’t need to do it. You don’t need to buy absurdly expensive food to do anything, you don’t need to buy ammunition over and over and over, you don’t need to buy almost every piece of gear you use.
Been there, done that, I’ll take the way Guild Wars does it.
Yeah, if possible, they should definitely make it so you can’t place a buy order for less than the vendor price if we can’t sell them for less than that. It’d clean out a lot of items pretty quick, I would think?
What they’re saying is, the skillpoint isn’t actually in Cragstead. There’s another entrance to that cave with the spiders, outside of the instanced area. It existed before Cragstead was created. Look on the wiki under Wayfarer Foothills, Cragstead, and it will give you the directions to get to those places.
It’s likely a bug, I got that one last night without too much trouble.
Not that I’ve been able to see so far. Has anyone else found it or are we just wandering anywhere all over those areas to find one charr?
It’s a little thing, but it’d be really helpful for our group with the five person restriction on things. We had another game where you could do a /random and you’d get a random number between 0-999. It made it easy to pick then.
I don’t think quick ascended is for people that don’t have time to dedicate I guess. If you’re not playing much I doubt you’re doing anything that requires it.
Please don’t assume what I and my group are doing. Just because we don’t have hours and hours to devote every day doesn’t invalidate the specific concern about crafting materials.
Also, as these guys are pretty much the source for dragonite in any appreciable amount…
I really, really wish we had an alternate source for reasonable amounts of dragonite ore. The world bosses do need unique rewards, but not everyone can sit around waiting out spawn windows. In any case, right now the bloodstone dust and empyreal fragments are far easier to obtain.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dragonite_Ore
WvW Castle & Keep Lords
2 Guild Missions
Living Story (Scarlet’s invasions)
5 Orr Temple Bosses
Meta Event chainsquite a few options for Dragonite Ore apart from World Bosses, if you ask me.
Please note, I said appreciable amounts. The Scarlet invasion has the issue of randomness. I do manage to get in at least for a while each night and since she went to the random schedule, there have been nights that I have not seen the invasion warning at all. If Tequatl will be on a similar timer, there will be days where he won’t spawn in available play windows at all. (I did say ‘if’ as we weren’t given a time yet.)
I’m not including the ‘dragon’ level bosses as it sounds like they will be updated in a similar fashion also. The 30 ore bosses have a similar problem as as I understand it (and I may not be correct) they aren’t on any sort of schedule either.
Guild challenges are problematic for me as we have a very, very small guild. Please don’t suggest joining a larger one, that goes under the same heading as ‘find more time to play’.
It is certainly true that you get more for one target in WvW. How that will work out after the changes being made on Tuesday will also have to be seen.
The rest give 3-5. When you need 500 per piece, that’s a very, very long time.
It’s not that I’m disagreeing that there are some alternate venues, and god knows that 3-5 at a time is still better than the system in some games out there. My point just is, as things stand now, with what information we have that these materials will be much harder to come by for people with not a lot of time and I don’t know if that’s been taken into account. Any A-net feedback on this would be much appreciated.
That being said, I do like the idea of doing something interesting with these bosses. If it wasn’t for the dragonite issue, I think everything else sounds just great.
So, it sounds like then that there won’t be a way to plan ahead for this, that it’s going to go off randomly? If this extends to the other two dragons eventually, that’s going to make it pretty hard for some of us to plan out what we’re doing in an evening. As it is right now, I can take a look at the timers and work out what I can do in what time I have to play.
Also, as these guys are pretty much the source for dragonite in any appreciable amount, I’m not sure how making them harder to get to is a good thing. Unless the answer is, find time to play more, which is kind of an issue right there.
(Please note, I’m aware that this is all speculation and I’m trying not to run around saying ‘The sky is falling’ until we know. There are just concerns.)
I got a couple fragments yesterday from chest in the Svanir cave near the start of the Maw and the Shaman’s Rookery JP. I was on a level 80 character but still, that’s about as low as you can get in the zone.
It’s because you had to learn it through a recipe. The recipe should already be available for you in the crafting pane.
The question that’s been asked a few times seems to have been dodged. How does it directly affect you to have someone portal their way through JPs, for whatever the reason, be it hardware issues, physical issues, just not wanting to deal with it, or hating the WvW puzzles like burning but wanting to get that one achievement.
The answer is, it doesn’t, beyond some feeling of outrage about someone not doing things ‘the right way’. Which is dictating how others play, which is counter to what GW2 is supposed to be about.
I’ll give you a counter. My guild was involved in the organized portalling that happened in the Aetherblade airship with the JP and the diving point. That JP was an epic pain, getting the diving goggles was worse and incredibly time consuming. One of our mesmers parked herself on top of the ship, running people up there while a couple of us guarded her from the Aetherblades.
And you know what? It was fun. Everyone was helping out, sticking around to raise people that splatted, and in general having a great community time. What it sounds like is that you’d have rather had everybody kitten ed off because they’d botched the jump for the n’th time and not having any fun. No thank you.
How does a mesmer offering portals effect your play at all? If you want to use one, take it, if you want to do it the other way, do it. I really don’t understand this set of threads lately where people are busybodying how others play.
Besides, you don’t know the reason every single person uses portals. The guildmate who has a tiny screen on a very old MacBook has a darn good reason for appreciating the help.
As people pointed out, how does someone being able to portal affect your play in any way? I don’t have a problem with them because of my PC setup and screen size (well, besides the problem that tall Norns have as a rule) One of my guildmates has a really tough time because of having to play on a very old MacBook, so we help them out.
Unless what you’re saying is anybody with problematic hardware should just buy a new machine, and I’d think really hard about what that says if you do.
I’m sure it’s been mentioned before but go in the morning if you can. We had a bunch of people there yesterday morning (and yes, I’m on Tarnished Coast) and almost everyone was getting along, both at the flag and the chest.
We did have about 6-7 people stationed up at the chest, but it was only to keep people playing nice. None of us felt a need to attack anybody and there were plenty of waves and such.
It’s too bad you can’t play Belcher’s Bluff against people from other worlds. That guy from Fort Aspenwood really wanted to join in.
I would buy more gems in a heartbeat if I they had something like Kate’s ‘conversion stone’ idea. (Of course, we’d desperately need some sort of closet then…
)
I’m a heavy armor wearer too, and while I really like my armor, I’d love to be able to wear some of the other available stuff as clothing for social events.
Been there, done that, with a game where you didn’t downlevel and it sucked a lot of the fun out of it. You tend to have two things that happen
1) higher level players will decide to kill ALL the things, which gets pretty frustrating when you’re trying to do something.
2) lazy players will get the higher ones to do everything for them. Need help taking on this thing? Boom. Done.
I much prefer having at least some challenge in places I feel like going to on a particular day.
Fishing, most definitely. Some sort of little gardening would be fantastic too. A past game I played had fishing as an option and our group often made it a social occasion. People who wanted to fish could, the folks that didn’t want to would hunt down the stuff that might attack us, it was great.
To add a somewhat more rational reply to this, while I’m aware that there was an issue with WvW that needed to be addressed, this was extremely frustrating for those of us that aren’t as interested in WvW. The Claw showed up nearly at the end of the spawn window (On Tarnished Coast to clarify) where a very large number of us had been waiting nearly the entire time, and the update happens when he’s at about 1/3 health.
So now, we miss out on the chest, have wasted a good chunk of time, and as I have a limited time to play, I cannot wait around for up to another 4 1/2 hours for another shot today. Yes, it’s only one event out of many, I get that. But I find it hard to believe that there isn’t something, somewhere, that said when this event was going on. It either could have been moved up to accommodate the build, or the build, unless something was exploding on the server side, could possibly have been pushed off for ten minutes.
Mostly, to be honest, what it feels like is that the players who aren’t into WvW really weren’t on the radar tonight and that bothers me.
The thing he’s complaining about is that there are a large number of people getting shoved into overflows instead of being able to do large events on their servers. The timers are different world to world, so if it’s a convenient time, you’re going to get flooded. As one of the shove-ees tonight, it was extremely annoying, especially as my window of play is fairly narrow.
Hello,
I’m a Tarnished Coast native, I have been since I started my account a while back and the guesting surrounding events is starting to get a little frustrating. I’m aware that it’s a complicated issue, and that a lot of the point is for us to still be able to play when things are very busy. This is a good thing, of course.
The not good thing is not being able to do large events on your own server. As an example, there were a fairly massive number of us tonight who went to do Jormag when we were alerted by friends, guildmates, etc and we ended up in an overflow and lost the chance to do the event from different timers.
As I said, I know it’s a complicated issue, but if there could be some way to implement priorities for the people actually native to the server, it would be much appreciated.
Thank you.
Just to throw my two cent into this very long set of replies. There’s a line between challenging and not fun. Challenging should mean you feel accomplished at the end, not fun means that you’ve tried something a half dozen times and you aren’t getting anywhere. Honestly, if there was one thing I’d change, it would be the absolutely absurd way that mobs regen their health. It’s incredibly discouraging to get most of the way through a fight then to have to start all over due to bad luck.
In regards to making things more difficult for new players, I’ve seen this same thing happen in other games. While a mechanic might be meant to encourage people to learn, it doesn’t work that way. Newbie players get ignored because the good experienced people don’t have the hours that it’d take to teach them, the bad experienced players will spend their time being judgmental about gear and experience.
In addition to this, the more ‘challenging’ this is, the more likely that people will be pigeonholed into jobs they don’t like doing because it’s the only way to find a party. I’ve been down that road in other games, where a boss type fight was impossible unless you had a specific mix of X, Y, Z types. GW2 is supposed to be all about being able to play the way you want to and excluding people from content while saying, well, just don’t do that part if you don’t like it, isn’t the answer. I don’t care for the way a lot of things work in WvW, but as long as it’s the only way to get items for other things I want to do (or certain achievements for that matter) I don’t have a lot of choice.
Lastly, for whatever it will be worth, I don’t know if it’s been decided yet, but until Phase 2 goes through, please don’t include dungeons on the February monthly achievement. It seems counterproductive to require events that have not been balanced yet get the shiny new currency that you just gave us. Yes, I’m aware you can do dailies, but my point still stands.
