Human Ele – Koenix
Sylvari Mesmer – Tenshi No Kanade
Dont trust [ATP] and I think it was [Val] from TC in the jumping puzzle. I was outnumbered by a lot and alone so obviously I wasn’t going to attack them. I waved, bowed, saluted until I got a wave/bow back. Got near the top of the arena, dog pile.
I dont mind a fight. I dont mind you setting up siege and camping the living daylights out of it, even if I never get to the end again. But at least be classy enough to do a /no or just plain shoot me instead of giving the go ahead.
So CD and FA beware TC is bored.
The truce does not seem to be holding in EB very well. We fended of CD as much as we did TC. It seemed to work out in TCBL for the most part. We each took our sides, and even had small zergs pass each other by, which I thought was cool. Unfortunately CD kept trebbing the garrison after we took it, so we had to take their tower and drive back their zerg. We were talking in gchat about how we hoped they would notice (10 mins later) that we had garrison.
They could have taken the tower back right afterwards probably. We killed the treb and left. (partly b/c the CD guild that was the big part of that zerg headed to our borderlands
).
From our POV , we thought its FA who decided to attack us at Sunny Hills . I think thats due to lack of communication hence the misunderstanding. We were pretty much about to leave WvW already after you guys took the garrison. We were only at your BL for about 20 mins before most of us decided to call it a night.
Always fun to get the opposing pov. Anyways, it was fun last night.
Also, thank you to the CD attackers who noticed me stuck in a wall last night in one of our towers. I used blink hoping to get up the stairs quicker… I didn’t know if you guys could see me and blink didn’t want to help me out of it. I was really worried that I’d give give a bad impression for PRO. So I’m really glad some of you found me with my /crying and /beckoning. (was in combat, couldn’t way point).

FA and CD is trying to form an alliance against TC? Wow, that is definitely not intended gameplay.
If that alliance worked, and TC moved to 2nd or 3rd place at the end of the match ups, what would that do exactly? Cause all three servers to play against each other for even more matches, which would force FA and CD to keep their alliance.
Than once FA or CD (whoever is finishing first place consistently) moves up to T2 they will get completely kitten Why? They no longer have a 2v1 going against a server. They are back to where they should be, 1v1v1.
The point is, the system works if you just let it work as intended. So if TC remains in first this week (and IoJ drops another 40 points like last week) than TC will move up to T2 “where it belongs” (quotes for a reason!). IoJ will move down to T3 as it was deemed a better match up in the tier 3 ranking. And if you guys can’t be IoJ than what does that determine? Your server is a tier 3 server as it currently stands now! Do you understand? So at your servers skill level and numbers it is appropriate that you stay in tier 3. This isn’t me being a jerk towards your server. This is me trying to explain how the ranking system works. Trust me, everybody wants their server to be tier 1 material. But sometimes your server just isn’t quite there yet. Don’t rush it.
Does that make sense? I understand it may be hard to fight TC right now. It may be tempting to form an alliance to “crush us”. But in all honesty, it will just be hurting you in the long run. And it may even hurt T4 (if you were to push TC down a tier due to 2v1) because TC would COMPLETELY demolish that tier. Do you see how this creates unbalance?
Just stick in there guys. TC should soon move up to T2 and you won’t have to deal with us anymore.
You may not be happy about a formal alliance, but there will be plenty of people in TC who I think would enjoy it. At least if you read last weeks forum thread, then you’ll remember many of them were basically begging us and Yaks to gang up on them.
And besides, everyone loves a good underdog taking a win, even if it were to be small one.
those scrap fights are a lot of fun. Often the top server is bored, and spends most of their time bragging on forums, while the bottom 2 servers have an awesome time battling it out to the last minute…
Didn’t read all the replies, but I thought I’d add my 2 cents. I have never enjoyed crafting more than in this game. Sure its not a big money makers, but it does give me 10 levels of experience! and for pretty cheap too; 1 maybe 2 gold if I dont sell all my crafting materials. (which I dont since its so nice and easy to just put them in the bank with the deposit all button). Oh, and its awesome how I can make gear that is level appropriate. You could never do this in Wow. Crafted gear was always inferior, or freaking expensive. In wow you needed to get two professions up to max if you wanted to maximize your play experience but it was so freakishly boring because you had to do it at max level basically. It was just too expensive. I stopped even trying to level my crafting professions after a while. Here, in GW2, I don’t need to craft at all. I can get all my crafting needs from the TP, but I do it anyways because its fun and lots of xp.
Thanks for the advice.
Excuses for why FA is being constantly tag teamed (whether intentional or not)
Week 1: Well, FA, you took the lead on the weekend so naturally TC and YB are going to go after you at the same time.
Week 2: Well, FA, you’re in second place, so you are the bigger threat than YB so TC will attack you constantly and YB does it because they want to be in 2nd.
Week 3: Well, FA, you have a weak defense and are last in score, so naturally we’ll both be opportunistic and go after you at the same time…we like the challenge. ;-) (sorry, just had to with that last bit)
You know “losing” is fine, but it’s the smugness of the top team(s) that rubs the wrong way. Hasn’t anyone looked at all the match ups and the top team is almost always posturing, “We’re just better players than you and you are horrible. You can learn from US”
You occasionally see the few outwardly honest ones the verbally acknowledge that this is ultimately a numbers game, and they who have the most numbers typically wins. When you add in skewed tag teaming (where one team is the main target more than any other), obviously the coverage and defense of the one in the middle is going to be awful, especially after 2 1/2 weeks of it, where players are burning out and not logging, leaving an even bigger numbers gap.
I don’t enjoy the smug assertions that TC is just superior in every way, and that’s why the whole pointing out that FA is being double teamed started…NOT because people thought it was a conspiracy. FA was basically pointing out that its difficult to defend on two fronts, but someone started the whole “conspiracy” scoffing and it rolled down hill from there. (Since then, there have been a few instances on TC’s part that it was obviously intentionally done, probably just to rile up more drama on here but really displayed poor taste on their part).
The posts I DO enjoy are the more honest ones, and the ones that people are doffing their hats to their opponents in their 1vs1 duels, win or lose. In fact, when I started playing WvW about a month ago, when I saw posts like that, it impressed me very much and made me think what a mature crowd this was.
I’m quickly being disillusioned.
To those few TC that have come on here and been gracious and honest, my hat is off to you. You are great sportsmen.
To YB, I have to say, I was proud of you guys, seeing you getting out of your comfort zone and actually making a serious push into TC this morning. It was quite refreshing to see. Way to go!
I like you. And I’ve started feeling the same way.
I’m going for a more shatter build if that helps. Not sure how viable those are in wvw, but I find it enjoyable to pump out a million clones and to try and blow them up.
I’m looking for advice on gearing my mesmer. I’m not exactly sure which stats I want a lot of. I plan on mainly doing WvW with my mesmer, and so I figure toughness would be good. I love using confusion on people. I find it effective and funny at the same time. So I figured condition damage would be a good stat, but I also like using the Greatsword a lot. Which doesn’t seem to be a great weapon for condition damage. In fact I like using GS and Staff which seem to be opposite in what I would want for stats.
I was thinking something like focusing on pre/tough/condi. Any advice would be great though as I’m really just taking a shot in the dark. Maybe I should only go for so much toughness but get all the condi I can find…? I dont know.
Thank you for your help.
Next week we’re going to team up with YB AND FA to 3v0 you.
LOL!!!
It looks like CD is coming to T3 next week though. I guess we can 3v1 them.
Lets do it!!!
do you ever use this build in pvp?
Wow, well thanks yaks for making it a fun fight to the very end.
TC you can do better at being worse so that it will be a closer fight.
what was the score for the last match up? who came in second?
Random thought- if people really want it to be very competitive here in tier 3, a few TC guilds could take a week or two to explore their opponents communities. People keep saying that everyone is basically here to stay in the tier for a while. Well the only way to gain more competitive number is either by stealing them from outside of the tier, or for the tier to even out within itself. So if any TCers want, come on over, we’d welcome you.
(maybe a bad thought, o well, this thread is almost over, so I doubt very many will even read it).
Anyone on TC worrying about GODS transferring should understand that we are going to restructure our guild. It will no longer be a gigantic guild that anyone can join. It will instead focus on having fewer more loyal members. We are not causing any queues seeing as how only 10 people transferred so far, lol. We are not bringing hundreds of people.
Also, GODS are not transferring because TC is winning. Any GODS members saying that was not there for the long discussion we had.
So long as the folks that transfer do so understanding that both EB and TCBL already have decent structures in place at most times of the day, I’m sure they’ll be welcome. It’s not that TC dislikes the idea of more dedicated WvW’s (indeed, we require them), but more likely that folks are leery of a large guild transferring and expecting to dictate actions moving forward.
Also, if the numbers transferring are small (as compared to the numbers of GODS folk I’ve seen zooming around the map in EB), it’s unlikely to cause any major imbalance to either TC or FA.
I’ve mentioned in this thread in prior posts strategic errors I’ve seen from the GODS folk, and if you intend to be in EB frequently, I look forward to working with you all and improving your strategic game (just as you will improve our WvW capacity). There are some clever GODS players I’ve come to recognise from various skirmishes at Golanta – if any of those players do transfer, you’ll be a great asset.
I do feel for FA, though. FA is fortunate in that it has a number of dedicated WvW guilds (Pro, Ultd, UK, PTX to name a few), and I sincerely hope the loss of ‘however’ many people from GODS doesn’t diminish your desire to beat me over the head with a stick in EB. ^^
Good luck to both YB and FA for the reset tomorrow – looking forward to another week of seeing what you throw at us.
~Nyari Cil, Queen of EB.
@ Nyari Cil. I regret to inform you that the HNB List has been updated. (Heads Needing to be Beat). You were moved down to a lesser priority. This is not to say your head is not in need of a good beating. We at the HNB Association will happily beat your head at a later time, but for now another matter has arisen which requires our more immediate attention.
If a couple of people wanted to transfer, fine, awesome, more than glad to support you to play the game how and where you want, but when its a big guild, at least have the grace to go to a different tier or even to the Benders. That at least would have made it more interesting. Anyways, just my two cents…
It can be pretty annoying not being able to attack anything but the door during a tower or keep siege. Even people really close to edge of the wall are basically immune to your attacks. Before at least I could throw a phantasm up there every 20-30 seconds. One that would get off one attack and be killed. Now I can put up one chaos storm, and stare at my opponents in the hopes that one of them will jump up onto the wall edge and I’ll be able to pull him down.
hmm oh well if we get matched up again..and get bored might aswell all meet at smc for a day and have a dance party plus campfire , cakes foodfight and brawling….oh and have a silent minute for the 41 golems that died to yaks oil.
That would be awesome. I’d show up for it.
Whoa, that was long. Sorry for the novel!
(A special Thank you to the guild with the Tag [OOTT], and also to [TV]. Those were the two main guilds I noticed there. It was a lot of fun, and it was really cool of you guys to let my friend and I through. I really enjoyed having a great experience with your server, and felt that I should compliment you guys as awesome and classy. I know it was only a few of you in comparison to your entire server, but your kindness reflected well on your community and brought my opinion of the server as a whole up a notch). Thanks for the fun night, and bravo to anyone who read that long somewhat badly written story. I’ve never role played before, so I hope that I didn’t offend any of the pros over in TC with my poorly done work.
This strange dance of even stranger partners went on for what seemed like an eternity. It went on until from around his boulder, Koenix saw all the invaders shaking their heads in what looked like disagreement, and then one of them cheered and looked him straight in the eye, giving Koenix a slight nod. Koenix nodded back.
Koenix summoned to himself all four elements of earth, water, air and fire! and like a whirlwind he stormed around the rock towards the ranger who was still yelling in his foreign tongue. “Phree Badgers! Phree Badgers! Phree Badgers!”
First he used air to stun the ranger and throw him to the ground, then fire and arcane energy to singe him. The ranger scrambled to his feet, and sought the company of his friends. They however stood aside, clearing the arena of everyone but Koenix, the ranger, and they dying Sentry of the Light. The ranger dodged the next blow that Koenix threw at him, and used an ancient nature magic to restore some of his strenth, but he hadn’t noticed that Koenix had used the time to begin the incantations to a powerful earth spell. The rocks rumbled and the ground shook beneath Koenix’s feet, and with a flash of lightning Koenix unleased the powerful spell upon the ranger! Rocks surged from the ground! Throwing the ranger to the ground hard.
The ranger strove desperately to get back to his feet, but his strength was spent. Koenix thought about reaching down and cutting the vile man’s throat. He remembered however that Sentry was still hurt, and so, leaving the man in his disgrace, he went to his friend.
Still it took some time, but with great care, and the right spell, Sentry of the Light was able to get back to his feet. The other Tarnish Coast invaders, welcomed Sentry and Koenix into their camp. After some more bowing and hand waving, several of the invader set out with Sentry and Koenix in their quest to explore the cavern. In the end, an illustrious golden chest was found containing many valuable items.
As was the custom of Sentry and Koenix upon finding friends in unexpected places, they performed a synchronized dance for the enjoyment of their new friends. To our surprise and happiness, the former enemies from a strange and far off land knew of this dance, and joined in happily.
Then one of the invaders beckoned, and then another and another. They moved with care, keeping their hands away from blade and staff. Koenix realized that these strange people would allow him to go to his friend, either to help, or to at least spend a few moments with his friend before he succumbed to death’s waiting arms.
To his joy Koenix found his friend barely alive. It was possible, that with the right care, probably a long time rubbing the ground by his head, incanting a particular healing spell, that he would be able to raise his friend from his defeated state. Slowly he began the process. It took a long time, for Sentry was gravely wounded.
“Woooot! Phree Badgers ov Oner!!!!!” Koenix looked up suddenly. The vile ranger was back! With a cruel grin he drew back his mighty bow, and released! Quick as a flash, Koenix used an ancient spell that his teacher had taught him, and turned himself into a mist. The arrow passed through him, not leaving a scratch. Frantically he rubbed the ground, trying to whisper the incantation faster. It wasn’t going to be fast enough… Koenix was surprised to see many of the invaders frowning and waving their arms as if disagreeing at the lone ranger. Koenix felt himself solidifying. He wouldn’t get Sentry up in time. The ranger was moving closer and closer, still yelling “Phree Badgers ov Oner!” over and over. Another arrow was loosed. Koenix rolled to the side, and summoning the wind, knocked the ranger to the ground. Now Koenix can be an angry young man, and he thought of killing the ranger quickly if nothing else to end his torrent of strange words. He had killed Sentry of the Light!
The thought of Sentry, however, reminded Koenix that war and strife were not the only ways of the world, and so, while not as good as Sentry, Koenix strove to emulate his example. Ducking behind a rock he mended his wounds with a healing water spell. The war cry came from around the one side of the rock, and Koenix knew that the crazy invader thirsted for his blood, and so he ducked around the opposite corner. Around and around the boulder they went, Koenix striving to fend off the ever continuous flow of arrows from the screaming ranger.
Now this was a difficult concept for Koenix, he was an elementalist that fought with both fire and daggers for a reason. He thrilled in the dance of battles, of always attacking and never giving his opponents a moments rest. Did this talking really have a place in his world? Koenix looked down again. The invaders were nodding and talking among themselves, and smiling?! Finally, they waved to Sentry, and beckoned him towards their camp.
Slowly and with great care, Koenix stepped from the shadows, but before any of the strangers could notice him, a large young norn, with a powerful bow jumped from a ledge above screaming what even Koenix could tell were obscenities. Roughly something like this “Woooot! Phree Badgers ov Oner!” It was very vile. And with his mighty bow shot Sentry of the Light! Sentry’s armor was not of the best quality, and the arrow pierced him through and through. He fell to the ground, three arrows protruding from his chest.
“NOO!” called out Koenix! Not his friend, not the brave and mighty Sentry of the Light. With tears in his eyes, Koenix came forth from the safety of the darkness. Now Koenix wanted to go to his friend, hoped that maybe he could mend his wounds, but dared not leave his perch above, fearing that all good will was lost, and that his attempts would be futile.
TC, thank you for the fun tonight.
Story time! Behold mighty Sentry of the Light decided that he must go forth into the dark depths of the eternal caverns deep under the Valley keep that his fellow soldiers so zealous strove to protect from the encroaching invaders. Upon entering the dark interior, the Sentry of the Light, being a strong and courageous norn guardian, was undaunted by the lack of a friendly portal master. So deep into the darkness he plunged. Now Koenix, a short and most assuredly less impressive human, though a fine elementalist if you ask him (shhh! we don’t care about other’s opinions, I know, I know, they aren’t the same, now let me get back to the story), heard of the Sentry of the Light’s inspiring adventure and decide that he too would strive to walk (or jump) in the footsteps of such a one as the Sentry! It took some time to catch up to the mighty Sentry, for he had long legs, and even longer jumps. Through a dank well, Koenix climbed, and along narrow walkways, and from spike-trapped pillar to spike-trapped pillar he jumped. Finally after slowly finding his way through a dank and penetrating blackness, with only a torch to remind him of life itself, Koenix climbed his way to towards a light at the end of a tunnel. He could hear voices ahead, surely Sentry of the Light was just ahead, and Koenix could find a small share and hopefully be of help to Sentry of the Light’s glorious quest to explore these dark dwellings.
As Koenix approached the light at the end of the tunnel, his torches sputtering out, he heard Sentry’s humble words talking of peace and shared adventure. Koenix wasn’t sure what to make of it, had his friend gone crazy maybe? had the darkness gotten to him? No, that could not be. Sentry was the light in the darkness, this cave, though vast and full of dangers would not have daunted him. Slowly and with great care Koenix stepped to the edge of the light, and there Sentry stood, bravely in front of half a dozen invaders! The very invaders who were currently pillaging and destroying the homeland above. Koenix stepped further back into the darkness, cursing quietly to himself. The hated invaders from the far off tarnished coasts, where they eat strange foods like toast, and have baffling customs called… “roll playing.” The words sounded strange even to Koenix. Why would you play with your rolls? Bread is tasty, and should be eaten, not played with, thats what children do… Strange, a strange people from a strange land. Koenix breathed in slowly and deeply, readying himself to jump into the fray. The odds were overwhelming, and though it would be his last adventure, he swore to himself that he would not allow his friend to die alone surrounded by strangers.
It was then that the Sentry of the Light’s calm words reached Koenix’s ears. He spoke calmly and fervently of his righteous quest, and how he would like to continue, and that he understood that if it were not possible today, then another day. Koenix peeked around the corner again, this time taking longer to look at the situation below. Sentry of the Light was peacefully communicating with the invaders, though it was difficult seeing as they didn’t understand each other’s mother tongue, but with much bowing, waving of hands, and kind gestures Sentry was finding a way to communicate.
We wiped our borderlands blue with a 10-15 man crew after TC either got bored or realised how much territory they had sacrificed for our garrison and withdrew the majority of their forces.
Well, as one of the TC players that was there, I can tell you that our determination to take your garrison was partly caused by the FA-whining-post here on the forums and partly by the many complaints in our chat about FA-corpse-dancing.
We knew fully well that taking the garrison while Yak was around would cost us more points that it gained, but several people literally said stuff like ‘better to take stuff from FA and loose to Yak, then let FA keep their stuff’.
That’s what happens when you are rude to others…
Honestly I’m beginning to wonder if these forum hurt WvW. The main thing that I get from them are that people are pissed off, and they are likely to only get more pissed off as we continue to get matched up together. And a game that gets people angry isn’t likely to keep their attention for the long run.
I think these forums are a part of the reason why people on my server (FA) feel like its a 2v1 a lot of times. I don’t think that either TC or Yaks are in a grand alliance, but I do feel that if I ever mention the number 2 and 1 in the same sentence that I will get bashed by both servers (and probably from some server mates too).
And I’ve heard from more than one person that the above has happened. Where people are annoyed with FA and have attacked FA to their determent. I know most of it is hearsay, but hearing it from multiple sources can get discouraging at times. I’m sure some people have come on here to just to vent a little before jumping back into the game, and I’m sure its annoying for both TC and YB.
Also I’d like to point out that FA has a good opinion of its self because we’ve always done well on reset. It can be very frustrating pulling in the lead after several hard fought hours to be destroyed in the night. If you are always doing well at reset and during prime time it makes you wonder why you’re losing overall. For a long while it was “night capping” and now it feels like we are often being double teamed. Anyways, FA is a good server. One that I love fighting for.
TLDR: These forums are pretty negative, but I guess that’s no surprise for a game forum.
Happy Story Time to uplift the mood of my post: To the Benders out there that were camping the jumping puzzle yesterday night, great fight! It was a lot of fun. I was trying to be a bit carebearish because I had had a long day reading a long article for my political science class and the brain was telling me that I could go jump off a cliff if I wanted to think much about anything. But you guys motivated me to fight like crazy. I hated you guys all night. You guys had 3 ballista, 2-3 arrow carts, and were building a golem? No clue why on that last one. I had a great time on my mesmer yanking you guys down into the pit. I had not so great of time when a different mesmer’s poorly placed portal landed our whole party right in front of your ballistas. Your welcome for the badges
It was a ton of fun when we finally wised up and started camping the front of the puzzle to keep you guys from getting any reinforcements, and I tip my hat to the awesome mesmer who was able to stealth all the way through the puzzle so that we could attack you guys from behind.
Thank you for the fun and extremely hard fight last night! Also I’d like to say sorry to the charr warrior in red armor who kept waving and trying to sleep. I was a little angry at your server mates at the moment. It was a good fight… even if it was a 2v1! (ducks around the corner really quickly to avoid any and all TC and YB player’s rotten tomatoes that are sure to coming flying now!).
Some of the best pvp can be had in the jumping puzzle. You can use traps and height to your advantage. There are plenty of columns for line of sight. You can knock people off of stuff. There is stealth for everyone so that you can come get in behind people.
And its where the rivalry gets truly intense. You take stonemist from my server, fine, you take our garrison and all our towers, fine, you camp the jumping puzzle when I want my free loot… you will die.
Besides its way more epic feeling to kill the campers who have siege set up at the top of the arena then it is taking towers, garrisons or even stonemist. They have a huge advantage over you.
I think the JP is fine where it is and how it is. I would hate it if they added a capture point in it, and I think it would ruin the small scale pvp in there.
Thanks Nyta
I think I might have to agree with how the truces can be very fun. Several weeks ago when it was BG vs TC and FA (since they were easily dominating both of us that match up) I was deep in BG’s territory stalking a yak. I came upon it right as a TC ranger came to it. We stared across the low lying hills at each other good and hard. Then the yak made a yak sound. Moo? And we proceeded to butcher the yak. Afterwards we had a nice meal together, and did a little dancing probably. After a couple moments of friendly emote sharing, I looked over my shoulder to see the my zerg! And alas I couldn’t think of the most appropriate emote to tell my friend “Run like Hell buddy!”
It was a very fun moment to realize that we both just wanted to kill Blackgate’s yaks and that we were natural allies at this point considering the several hundred thousand point lead BG had.
just thought I’d add that I don’t think you guys did ally up or any of that non-sense. Honestly this is what I felt might have been the reason why are BL got attacked alot.
1. FA is a very aggressive server. We are still improving our defensive game. So we were just a bit easier to attack.
2. FA was in 1st or 2nd the whole game, so TC concentrated on us because we were the bigger threat.
3. YB might have focused on us a bit more b/c our stuff was easier to take and they just wanted points. This game was very close, when everyone has 200+ potential points, it matters less who you take a tower from.
4. Not sure about this one at all, but its a feeling I’ve had. I’ve felt that maybe the Yaks don’t like us in FA for the almost come back 2 weeks ago. There were some bitter conversations on the thread back then. It could be that a real rivalary has been born?
(it is true that the BL fights were a little less than exciting. I tried a few times to get something going in YB BL and every time we took something a lot of probably bored Yaks would show up hoping for a good fight only to find the couple of us).
Anyways, cheers everyone. It was fun to have a close match up. Good fights, and good work to everyone. I hope you all have a great day, and I’ll see you on the battle field.
Bronze, we fought hard against overwhelming odds, and we’re stronger for it. This will just make us tougher, and better. See it as an opportunity. I’ve been annoyed as heck too this week as I havent been able to strike at helpless dolyaks and camps as easily as I’m used to. Sometimes I’ve seen TC side of EB as a walled off no-entry zone. (Good job on that btw, I can normally kill every dolyak and sentry in a teams area without ever fearing for my life). I’ll just have to get better at sneaking in.
Besides if you really feel that Yaks and TC intentionally allied and 2v1ed us, then take it as a compliment.
Are we getting a rematch this next week?
I fight for Fort Aspenwood. Not for some random color.
I think the portal bombs are a new trick to be honest, one that we learned from TC this week. I had never seen more than one portal bomb before this week. Just my 2 cents though.
@Kalemar
I usually don’t care about the emotes. If it annoys me its usually because I played poorly and agree a little with their laughs. What inspired the post was the disappointment. I really looked up to TC because of previous experiences.
Ah well. Its just a game, and I have some reading to do.
What happened TC? I remember liking fighting against you guys because almost after every fight someone would do a /salute or /bow. It was cool. I thought you guys were cool because you won, but didn’t try to throw it in your opponents face. Now all you do is /laugh. I haven’t seen one person do anything else. I REALLY admired your server, and started following your example and tried to show my respect to those I beat. Was it only because you guys were beating us so badly last time?
(yeah I know a few don’t represent your whole server, but the same could have been said about the good stuff. A few (quite a few) gave me a really good impression of your server. Now a few (quite a few) are erasing it).
I’ve found that bursty builds are favored with more badges. When I did an aoe based staff ele that I got very few badges or even bags at all. Using great sword on my mesmer for more 1v1 damage I get far more badges. I’ve also switched my ele to d/d and have noticed a far greater drop rate as I tend to be doing more of my damage to one target specifically instead of the group as a whole (though as an ele that still happens some naturally). A little tip, in a group, don’t be the guy to stomp, keep dpsing the target. It increases your likelihood of getting loot.
edit: Oh, and the jumping puzzles, especially the eb one when it has mesmers is by far the most efficient way to get badges. I’ve gotten around 50 in 20 minutes before with my 6 alts. Another tip, you get more badges from the puzzles with your higher level toons. I usually get around 13-15 on my 80 but only 3 on my lvl 10 alts.
From what I’ve noticed if you are in combat you revive slower than if your out of combat. So make sure to put them in combat. Also for all those complaining about how it only helps the larger group, that is not true. I’ve often run with small groups that have bitten off more than we could chew and all of us but one died. That one would evade the enemy until they could come back and get us back on our feet.
I personally like the downed state as it makes it easier to play with my friends. We don’t have to constantly wait for the new to the game friend to run back from the spawn only to be ambushed by some random thief and run back again.
I don’t appreciate using the downed state to spy and call in treb shots, but its a mechanic that is in the game and while I might not whole heartily approve, it wouldn’t stop me from using it (at least a little).
I’m liking this match up so much that I almost hope that no one moves up or down and that we get a rematch next week. (Thought it would be fun to rotate the positions some). I never like being the same color 2 weeks in a row.
I would recommend getting some levels on your toon first. I and a roommate both tried the idea of 1-80 in wvw with a toon because we thought it would be fun. If you do decide you can’t stand to even see the pve environment then at least grind all your weapon skills out in the tutorial zone, takes maybe ten minutes depending on your character, nice and easy. I tried grinding them out in wvw, and those drakes take freaking forever to kill when you only have one or two skills.
Also run with groups as a lowbie, flip camps and towers. Another good xp gain is to defend towers that are being trebbed from SMC. The trebs that can’t be easily killed. The tower will have a 3 minute timer that is for the event of defending the tower, even if it isn’t being actively attacked besides by the treb. If once in those three minutes you use some supply (from a nearby camp) to repair the wall you’ll get a bronze award. Decent xp that way. Besides if you set up some siege then maybe you’ll get some mass kills when a small zerg tries to take the tower.
If you have gold, then I’d recommend replacing your armor roughly every five levels. You can either do this by crafting a new set every five levels or often you can find pretty decent gear being sold for one copper more than vendor price.
You can also get gear and siege equipment from the jumping puzzle. I’d recommend popping in there whenever a mesmer is doing ports. It takes like ten minutes and saves you a lot on siege.
Anyways, good luck with your toon. Hope I didn’t repeat too many suggestions as I didn’t read all the posts above, and have fun.
Kind of makes me wish I wasn’t blue right now.
Don’t pick mesmer or ele based on who you think will be nerfed. Ele’s just took a pretty good whacking with the nerf bat too. We had an entire play style eliminated with this patch.
I would ask yourself what you like to do most in WvW. I play both classes (though my mesmer is only lvl 50) and I play very differently with them. My mesmer is for running with the zergs since I really enjoy the great sword, and I like how I can do pretty good single target damage. I’ll sometimes try to roam with her but this usually leads me to get frustrated as I feel really slow. I play d/d ele for the most part. With him, this usually means that I’m off to commit yak genocide. With practice I’ve come to enjoy the bigger group fights too, I just find a way to flank the enemy. Towers are boring though, I hate breaking out my staff since I haven’t practiced it much.
So look for a play style that you enjoy and choose that one. Even with the nerfs to my ele I still enjoy playing him, even if I feel kind of pathetic compared to what I used to be.
Its saying that its a bad link.
/signed.
I think the eles of my server are at fault (FA). Last two weeks we’ve been accused of hacking within the first few hours of WvW. I really wondered if our builds were too good to be true. I hoped we were good at our class and some extra reward for the class being so much more complex than every other class. But apparently not.
This is really sad. For the first time I felt powerful on my ele. Thats part of playing a mmo, you feel powerful while fighting off monsters and stuff. Ele just feels weak now. Anet nerfed our damage, and our every rune set that we use for defense. Next time maybe nerf one at a time instead of bashing us really hard.
I thought I would thank everyone for the enjoyable thread this week. Last week was a ton of fun to play and strive for the come back, but the thread was very angry, and not so much fun to read. Which was sad, because normally these threads are a lot of fun, and uplifting.
I’ve had some of my favorite moments so far in small match ups with some of you guys. I’d especially like to thank the random guild of twenty or so HoD that I was able to entice into chasing me around for five or so minutes. It was very thrilling to try and pick off your stragglers, and see your whole group do an about face. Not trying to bash you guys at all. I was just there to see if I could get in some good fights and didn’t care about the points. Still it was very thrilling to make some very narrow escapes.
Also had some great moments with you DH. You guys kept battering down a gate that I spent countless supply runs fixing. I think you guys had some sort of sixth sense. Oh, the keep gate on the west side… they’ve repaired the gate to 60%!
Anyways, thank you both for showing up and being good sports. This match up didn’t work out as well as we all hoped, but you guys have been awesome at continuing to work hard and improve.
Ele was the first class I played, and now all other classes feel like they run in slow-motion compared to him (except the thief, but I’m only mildly interested in that toon). Mesmer is a ton of fun, and I really enjoy many of their abilities and all the REALLY amazing things that you can do with one, but the mesmer is sooooo dang slow, and you have to use the focus to get some swiftness, and I’m just not a huge fan of that weapon.
So if you don’t want to ruin your other toons, then play the mesmer, because after playing ele its hard to go back to running around at such a slow speed.
I’m on FA. Sorry if how I worded something lead to misunderstanding (or especially hard feelings for anyone).
cool thanks alot. Can I safely assume that if FA does manage to pull ahead that we can just switch the two in who we’ll be fighting?
Hey everybody, just wanted to say thank you to all the people who in the last page or so who have kept their comments positive. This thread was a downer, but it feels like people are working to make it better.
On another note, do we know who everyone will be fighting with the reset? (both predictions would be cool).
hmm, my quoting didn’t work. Hope a mod deletes that. Anyways, I think that this thread has developed a some pretty angry vibes. I don’t normally like whinning, but after reading it I wanted to post several long rants against different topics and players, but that would be boring for other people to read.
Instead I’d like to say think about how blessed we are. We have a week long match that is going to be a close win for whoever triumphs in the end. If its the Yaks, then congrats on getting a lead and holding it despite a major resurgence by the Forts Aspens. If the Forts Aspens win, it will be by a very small margin and we’ll get to feel good for fighting through the week and making a pretty dang cool comeback.
The only way you should feel bad about this match up is if you gave up and left your team hanging when they needed you. I’m happy that I got to fight you Yaks, and I’ll be happy win or lose because I and my server-mates tried hard. Besides, we’re all lucky (except maybe ET, feel bad for them, sorry for what happened to your server) we are probably one of the few match ups that is going to have a close game this week. Its what most of us dream about having, but never think we’ll actually get.
So everyone take a deep breath, at least we aren’t really killing each other in real life, and forgive each other. Seriously this thread just has an angry feel to it.
It would be nice to get a Oceanic/EU guilds. Friday night is the best on FA, we usually have some amazing fights, and more often than not we pull ahead. It has been a little discouraging to be winning and doing well during our prime time to fall far behind during the night. If we could just keep the other servers from taking everything at night then we’d be perfect. I dont mind losing some stuff at night, but sometimes I’m reluctant to upgrade stuff because it will be flipped at some point at night just because we have so few people.
Either way, I really like FA. Its a good server and I feel we have some really dedicated and good people there.
It looks like what I was seeing with my characters was just the bug from the mad king dungeon. I’m sorry for freaking out a bit. (I did wvw right after the dungeon which is why I was really annoyed). It seems that they didn’t make any changes to the actually zoom distances, it was just a bug that happened often (besides the initial change that they did after feedback from the beta weekends, I don’t mind this zoom distance, its a decent compromise and I feel most people are ok with it even if its not to their perfect liking). Anyways, thanks all for the discussion. I hope you all have a great time playing, and sorry it took me a while to get back here to admit my mistake. Life has been busy lately.
You can always zoom the camera back in if you like it. Proper visibility, especially in regards to the poor rangers and their terrible pet AI (seriously, not A-net’s strong point), is a very good thing.
Now I can see everything I want to see, and you can zoom the camera in and lock it if you want. I don’t understand how this is a bad thing.
People have OPTIONS? THE HORROR
sarcasm aside, you have the option to zoom in, other people think that the camera is waaaayy to close and want it further, like mad king further.
to limit options for other people is a bad idea, because your view isnt the only view. Maybe suggest a ‘maximum camera range’ slider in the options menu which would lock the maximum distance your camera can go. Problem solved and nobody’s toes are stepped on as everyone can adjust their camera distance accordingly.
Let people have as much zoom as they want in pve, I don’t care how you play pve, but in pvp it is a problem. Your suggestion is that I bring a knife to a gun fight and be happy about it. If I zoom in back to where it was before they moved it then I have essentially nerfed myself.
Also the greater camera zoom out is bad for pvp. Before you could be smart and sneak up on people, now you just zoom out until you can see everything easily.
Once again I understand that my viewpoint isn’t the only one, which is why I did not complain about it the first time they moved it out (it was a lot closer during the betas), but now I decided to voice my opinion since they have shown that they do at least take opinions of their fans into consideration. It may not change anything, but I felt like voicing the fact that some of us liked some of Anets original decisions.
P.S. Options do have to be limited in some ways. Its a game and it has competition involved. If having all options was the way to go then the wvw hackers are just using their option to fly. Their do have to be some limits in a game, that is part of the game.
