The reason? I think the concept is amazing and would be a lot of fun, if it scales that is for solo players. But I personally would not want it associated with fractals or agony in any way shape or form. I read adding consumables but armor needed to go all the way. Myself and many others do not do fractals. This should be something not associated in any way so every player can join in on this.

But the concept itself I do really really love! Plus would be a nice new daily that would be fun.

Yeah, some people have suggested that it should not be related to Fractals in any way!

Let’s change it so the NPC doesn’t need to be rescued in the first place. Place the scenario in the crystal desert, the attacking forces are branded, the NPC is named Snaff… Maybe you get what I’m pointing at.
Snaff was a member of Destiny’s Edge, his death split up the group. It was pretty much an unwinnable fight in the first place. Glint attacking a much bigger foe in the air, Snaff using some Asura tricks getting right into Kralks mind, all while the rest of DE minus Logan hold of the hordes of minions.
Yeah, I think this could be a good match with your idea.

Hey everyone,

I posted this on Reddit earlier today, and since the feedback was nice and some people even said to post it here, there it is! Hope you all like the idea as well, and participate with sugestions to make it better!

The idea would be as the title states: an endless fighting arena. It’s a place where enemies keep spawning in waves, getting more numerous and stronger after each wave you defeat. They just keep coming (as long as you can stand). Meant for groups or solo play. Could be within FotM (you’ll see why below).

MORE DETAILS

The way I picture it, it’s a small map. In the middle, ruins of a long lost stronghold. A small lake by the north wall is an entrance to a underwater cavern beneath the whole place. Your objective: survive.

Mechanics

  • 2 types of arena:
    - Static Arena: Waves will always have the same foes. It’s predictable and allows practice;
    - Dynamic Arena: Each wave is made of enemies randomly selected from a pre-determined pool. Can respawn in different areas of the map.
  • The start is easy and silly, 2-3 trash foes. As the waves progress, enemies get more numerous and stronger. You start fighting veterans, champions. At some point, attacks start to inflict agony.
  • At first, the timer for the next wave will only start once you defeated the previous one. Later, it starts to countdown as a wave spawns. With increasing difficulty, that timer will seem to run faster and faster.
  • The idea is that the content can be played by 1 up to 5 players.
  • There could be also a scoring system in place. Players would score by defeating each wave and for acomplishing side objectives and milestones. This way, a leaderboard could be set up for each team composition (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 players teams).

Strategy

  • At some point, a one-time mission will start, aimed to rescue a NPC from kidnappers. Shall you succeed, he’ll join your ranks from within the fallen walls and help you out (maybe not so much in the battle…). This NPC will have items for sale that can be acquired with a currency (Fractal Memories? Too cheesy?) solely exitent within the arena (as in: it gets destroyed when you leave the place). Once you save him, you get an item called “Fractal Memories Extractor”, that allows you to harness foes memories. These can include:
    - Cart arrows and other siege weapon that could prove itself useful;
    - Consumables that provide AR (this way people that don’t have the proper gear can enjoy the arena. However, keep in mind that if you REALLY wanna go far, you should get the gear, so you can use other powerful consumables that will boost your stats up to the challenge);
    - Revive orbs (?);
    - “NPC NAME” Memory Extractor (boost the amount of memories players can harness from each foe);
    - Other things.
  • Knowing what to buy and when to use will be important, as “Memories” are not abundant and you can’t buy everything.
  • Below the surface, in the water, there could be a Quaggan village. Helping the Quaggans to defend themselves would earn their trust, and they would temporarily help you out (until they get attacked again… :’( Foo!).

End

  • The arena should have a max level at which it ends.
  • Beating the final wave, or once everybody dies, you get to fight one of the fractal bosses. The rewards in this case would match that of the Arena level you got to.

Rewards

  • Rewards scale up with difficulty. Players win loot bags for every wave defeated. Every set of 5 and 10 waves awards a special loot bag and chest, respectively. Drops can vary from fine and masterwork gear and some low tier mats at first waves to Ascended gear, infusions, skins and T6 mats at higher level waves’ chests and champ bags.
  • All items acquired from the NPC are destroyed when leaving the arena, as are Fractal Memories (the currency).
  • Top scoring players of the week/month could be rewarded with gold/loot
  • Defeating the final wave should be an achievment, only meant for skilled players. This would also guarantee a “Master of the Arena” title, and a unique Arena Skin.

So, this is the basic layout just to show what the idea is about and how it could work. If you like it, I’m sure great suggestions will pop up and together we can improve every aspect of it.

They should remove any limit anywhere. It’s called “Area Of Effect” not “Multiple Target Skill”.

If you want to pile 50 people into one little area, they should all be affected.

If they don’t want to be affected, they should move.

Ok, these are quite good points. I think the idea is still valid, but first WvW needs to get more balanced among all tiers.

Another option would be to make it as the reward from accomplished objectives, and not for “winning” that week. This way every server would be independent, and able to get the reward, as long as they completed the weekly objectives

WvW Cross-Server Interaction

Actually, I’ve thought of this. It is really frustrating (specially in EB) to jump the whole JP, to find a group of 5-10 enemies at the very end just waiting to kill you.

Specifically talking about the EB JP, it has traps! That place should be neutral for skills, etc, but leave the traps so it’s competitive somehow. Wanna make it harder for enemy players and give them a hard time? Use the available traps, and he’ll need more skill to overcome it. The way it is now it’s just a 3 way endless camping which can be very frustrating.

Downed hackers

I can’t say I noticed it, besides thiefs and mesmers going stealth / teleporting away.
But on the subject of downed state, I do think it should be removed, at least from WvW/PvP.

You happen to be on a 2v1 situation, and you manage to kill one of the players. All to see the guy getting back up again while you deal with the other, or to die while trying to finish him due to the second player free hitting you. Specially with all the downed skills, which every class has a away to avoid being stomped at least 1 time with #2.

In PvP / WvW, once you’re dead, you should remain dead. That would completely change 1v2 encounters, Attacking / Defending Zergs, etc.

They are really different styles of play and I enjoy all. I wish WvW was just like sPvP, where you can have different traits, etc. It’s hard to find a balance and choose a priority when traiting if you play both PvE and WvW regurlarly.

Idea in total pretty good, but exists servers with small population like in last tier and it will not work, it’s super hard fight when power 1 vs 3

I wonder if in the last tier the difference among those servers population is really that big, and if so, that may help bring more players to WvW. And if those servers are realy so empty, maybe it would be good for Anet to get the 3 least populated servers and merge them with the following 3 least populated ones? Really, no one likes a dead server.

Drop rate increase: as it stands right now, most of the WvW regulars aren’t in it for the money. Most of us barely break even when repairs, consumables, siege, and upgrades are all said and done.
Magic find: This would be cool, but again just like the drop rate, we aren’t in it for the money.
Gold drops: Same point as above.
Increased experience: Would be useful. More skill points = more upgraded siege.
Increased karma: A lot of us already have millions of useless karma sitting around. Having even more of it isn’t really useful.
Mystic forge recipes: As an 85% WvW, 15% PvE player, this barely matters to me.
NPC selling special items: And bring more items like Golem-in-a-Box and Gears to WvW? No thanks.

I don’t speak for the entirety of WvW regulars, but many of us have zero desire to spend much more than bare minimum time in PvE if only to fund our WvW habits.

More PvE perks for WvW serve only to increase queue times on already packed servers and degrade the existing WvW population into an even more mindless swarm of locusts than it is already.

All we really need have already been stated:
A couple map tweaks (size, distances, balancing issues, bugs) and to bring net coin equivalent earn rate up in line with “standard” PvE farming.

Your major argument is that WvW players are not in for money, and yet, you finish saying that all that is really needed is "*net coin equivalent earn rate up in line with “standard” PvE farming.*"

I think you’re seeing the small picture here, and like you said, you don’t speak for the entirety of the WvW community. You don’t need to be a PvE fan to want to work towards a legendary, and gold can be really helpful. Magic Find Increase would also boost your chances of getting a precursor.
And supposing you’re only 100% WvW interested, you could use gold to buy some more blueprints.

The mystic forge is, like the others, just an idea. Some people like to play with it, some people don’t. And it has nothing to do with being a more WvW or PvE focused palyer.

About the NPC, you’re not being creative! The NPC could sell Blueprints for karma (and there you have a use for all that stored karma). Maybe even already upgraded siege up to a certain level. New exclusive type of siege? It could also sell new weapon and armor skins to be bought with badges. There are a bunch of possibilities.

I do have to agree with you about the queue issue in the biggest servers, and it did cross my mind. But when you say “degrade the existing WvW population into an even more mindless swarm of locusts than it is already.”, I don’t know if I grasp what you meant, but people learn, like everyone that is a “WvW regular” today had to learn at some point. So we are all waiting for the WvW improvements to come. March seems a long way, but it’s better to wait for some good content than getting bugged stuff (I believe in you ANet!).

While I don’t know if this is already in ANet’s plans, and since I haven’t found a thread with this, here I come with my suggestion for how to make WvW more interesting, even for PvE players.

- Server-wide Rewards

I used to play another MMO few years back, and although it didn’t have anything close to WvW, from time to time they would throw events, and the best ranked server would get a reward, generally increased drop rate.

So this is basically my suggestion. Give servers that win in their Tier a weekly reward, which could vary from week to week. For example:

  • Increased Drop Rate
  • Increased Magic find
  • Increased Gold from monsters
  • Increased Experience
  • Increased Karma
  • Special Mystic Forge recipes / Chances (?)
  • NPC in Lions Arch selling different, cool (and useful) items

And from there you can take the idea to wherever you want. In the future you can create an area with new Dungeon / Events / Crafting materials / Jumping Puzzle, that only players from winning servers have access to (during that week time).

I think this is a way to make people more interested in WvW, and really gives them a reason to fight for the victory!

Only 2 Classes for PvP?

I have to say I laughed here. I never played as a Thief or Mesmer, but I roll as a Ele, and I can guarantee to you it is far from being a “cheap simple profession”.
While Warriors are using HB and Thiefs are spamming HS, as an Ele you have to be constantly changing attunments and putting combos together.

But besides that part, I have to agree with you. I’m tired of Thiefs endlessly stealthing and running away / getting full heal and coming back for you. Whenever they are losing, cloak and run. Np if they are bleeding / burning. Just get a full heal and come back completely renewed.

It depends on the supply of each. But still, I believe it’s not gonna go up for a few months.
It’s your choice to hold it and try to sell later, or sell now and reinvest assuming your loss. If you don’t need that money badly and have bank space, let it sit there.

someone could just do the jp in wvw, get the badges required, and get the commander icon without having a clue of what he’s doing.

you are trying to measure the unmeasurable. the 100 gold cost is only there to keep absolute FUN’s from being commanders

Well, with badges it at least prove one has been to WvW. Even if you only do JP, that will take a while to get all the badges (imagining the tome costs 1k), and you’ll have a few encounters and end up participating in defending/attacking eventually. 100g is also easily attainable, and makes it that it can be bought by someone who has never been to WvW before.

p.s.(I know it flaws on the logic of “why would someone who has never been to WvW buy a Commanders Tome?”, but it’s a possible universe, which is ridiculous.

Badges are too easily gained from the jump puzzles, and people have already bought them for 100g. I think what we need is a visible distinguisher based on WvW achievements. Perhaps hovering over the commander icon on the map should show the commander’s total achievement points earned from WvW achievements.

The achievement is cool, but again, in what sense 100g is harder than, lets suppose, 1000 badges? And it shouldn’t be hard to refund those who already bought it.

My suggestion might not have been the perfect one or the right way to go, but the logic behind it is still valid. Becoming a Commander should be done by achieving the status in WvW, and not just by money.


Achievements, not gold. Reminds me of Legendaries… uhnn….

p.s. A little bit apart from the subject, another thing that would be great is if commanders icons were to be shown in WvW only. Can’t really see a point in all those icons on the map sitting in LA.

John im pretty sure he already used his item and cannot sell in game. He wants an option to transfer his used commander title to another character

I’m sitting in 6000 gems I bought in the first couple weeks after launch. 1g was around 370 ~400 gems. So far I haven’t find something to really spend those. As I don’t need the money now, I just leave them there.

- Well, get the rares if you need it for any character. I think currently it’s the cheapest way.
- The gathering tools are good cuz they give you 250 charges.
- The exotics I think you can get it faster and “cheaper” through dungeon tokens.

More than that I would hold on to it for a while and see if they add something better. if not, just spend in tools and whatever before the NPC goes away for ever and never.

People don’t understand how it works and don’t pay attention to what is there. It’s just easier to come to the forums and say Anet is being dishonest.

Maybe it would be cool if the TP showed the revenue taking the listing fee into consideration. Maybe it’s part of the game to do your math.

Either way, the information is there. They are not hiding anything. It’s more than clear the TP takes away 15% (5% for the listing fee, and another 10% upon sale). Just look at the info that is out there.

Dungeon runs can get you some gold from drops, prizes, and stuff to sell. A run around Southsun and other high lv areas can also get you some resources. More than that, playing with the TP if you have money to invest. It is risky, but it can earn you more money than everything else together, you just need to know what you’re doing.

All it would take is Anet to introduce a single desirable recipe that makes use of Putrid Essence in reasonable quantities and the price will skyrocket from the 50 copper to 1 silver it’s been floating at since launch (even 50-100 for an infusion would do it).

The only T6 mat that didn’t really skyrocketed the past weeks was Powerful Venom Sac. Don’t know why the delay, maybe because the price already regulate with other T6 mats? Idk, but it’s been having a lot of spikes in the last couple days. I believe a lot of ppl is just stockpiling these stuff and waiting for the 28th patch.
I woudn’t be surprised if they nerf the drop rates on these stuff (if they already didn’t). Make ppl buy more at the TP and send more gold down the sink. Still waiting for a slight increase in prices.

sadly, yes, this is true. but i have no idea of how to fix current situation on legendarys other than remove them from the tp, and make precurser have a increased chanse of drop and make then acc bound… but that would prob kitten me off even further.

I think they should take legendaries out of the trading post…
Legendaries should be a reward for playing the game and not for making money.
The recipe should be more about stuff like the badges of honor, karma, the dungeon gift, the gift of mastery, the icy runestones etc…
And I dont understand why they didnt put any item in the recipe that requires Glory.

I concur with this opinion;

  • There are many items which can’t be traded, why not legendaries?
  • Legendaries should be changed from being market-oriented in their requirements to being task-oriented so that people can have fun instead of just being expert traders, third-party gold-buyers or gem purchasers – as it stands, legendaries are tarnished with a bad reputation.
  • There are plenty of jumping puzzles and other achievements which could be made into a requirement instead of the tier 6 materials and ridiculously rare lodestones.

The legendaries are supposed to (sic) “show off your accomplishments and symbolise all of the things that you’ve been doing” (Lead Designer Isiah Cartwright – in this video) and “show everyone that you are a true master of Guild Wars 2” quoted from here. I think I speak for the entire community when I say that Legendaries fail to do both of these things and perhaps even suggest that their visual effects be changed to reflect the influence that the market has had in the acquisition of the legendaries, for example a trail of dollar bills or money that flutters out of the weapon on hit.

As far as I see, Powerful Venom Sac is the only mat that hasn’t varied as much as the others T6 and T4 in the past few weeks (price and supply wise). Although it’s been getting a lot of spikes in the last few days, varying around 2s + or – . I believe it should start rising soon, just following the trend of everything else

The skill Mist Form says on it’s tooltip that breaks stun.

Since the skill turn the character into a “vaporous mist”, I think it would make sense to it also break from Immobilize condition (which is part of stun).

Evasive Arcana Bug – The tooltip says an Earth Dodge will cast Churning Earth, but it instead casts Shockwave despite the animation looking like a Churning Earth. This Shockwave does about 10% of the direct damage of Churning Earth and has no Bleed damage either, so it basically sux.

I wasn’t aware of this Earth specific bug, but I can say that at least for me, when I’m on water attunement and dodge, I get no effect at all.

Also, I read someone saying in another tread that the OH D air skill #5 (Updraft) does not count as knock-down, so the air major trait Grounded that gives dmg bonus against stunned or knocked-down players, in this case, does not apply (so basically you have to wait someone to be knocked-down by another class so you have your bonus)

I never tested it though, and I don’t know if it’s only with knock-down, or if stun is broken too.

Also, sometimes when I use Cleansing Wave, it won’t remove a condition (can’t really tell if it’s on special circumstances).

You guys really don’t think that the cast time for some skills, like Dragon’s Tooth for example, is just pathetic? Try using that on PvP.

Other good example is MS for Staff players. I started the game playing with staff (like almost everyone else I believe). It’s just ridiculous how few meteors actually hit something (and the animation time is even worse)

Don’t you think that broken traits, or traits that will affect only 1 skill, weakens the class?

Don’t you agree that skills with bugs like RTL, making you helpless for seconds, just really brakes the purpose?

I think that fixing what is broken is already a great start for the class. But like stated in other threads, we are the squishier class in the game, but we don’t have dmg output to make up for this. If we go full glass cannon (or paper cannon…) our HP pool and Toughness are just ridiculous (and our heals doesn’t suffice for this when your enemy does 3x more dmg than you can heal), and still other classes built on power will do more dmg than us.

Of course being a good player, learning to dodge on the right times and using your skills properly is part of the deal.

But when you play the squishier, smallest HP pool class of the game, you expect your dmg will payoff for this.

And that does NOT happen.

So I guess we all agree with that…

I really like my Ele for PvE been playing it 0/10/20/10/30 D/D.

It’s a fun class to play. I think that D/D gives the the best for pvp because skills are more direct and give others less chance to dodge, but cast time is just ridiculous for Churning Earth.

Also, MS for staff. What I generally do is walk to cancel the animation after the skill has really started landed, bus still, the meteors are so sparse and it ends so fast that I’m happy when I hit something twice with it.

Like someone said, when we go full glass cannon we are still not doing that big damage compared to other classes, and the traits in the fire line are just sad. I refused to spend points on that.

I mostly agree with everything pointed here, although I like that the class attunement style, and wouldn’t want to see that changed for weapon swaping (although I think we should be able to carry another weapon set to be changed out of combat, rather than having it sitting in your inventory)

So, resuming, yeah:

*We are the squishier, compared to any other class.
*Even when spec full GC (or should I say paper cannon?), we do average damage, and still less than other classes spec’ed the same way
*Attunement cd and casting time is just ridiculous
*Heals have little use when compared to the DPS of other classes on you.
*Elite skills for PvP are terrible (I say PvP because I really like my elementals on PvE)

Did I forget anything?

Also, worth mentioning that trait lines not only have little to no synergy, but a some are also broken. For example the Master minor trait Lingering Elements. The effects don’t linger.

Hope they fix things, It’s really a fun class to play.

I really like my Ele for PvE been playing it 0/10/20/10/30 D/D. Just use your combos, kite a little bit, and I can do well. I’m current lv 80 and I can say that high level content is harder for everybody. I have a warrior friend and we saved each other a couple times. Risen run like Bolt, they cripple you, poison you, stun you, pull you back. It’s just a pain lol

For PvP though (including WvW) it’s not the best class. Because most of our skills are AoE, so the damage is reduced (otherwise we would be taking down groups at a time). As PvP has a lot more variables than PvE, it’s becomes hard, because players can heal, can dodge, aplly conditions to you, have boons.

Right now I’m on a vit / toughness build, because I’m learning to pvp better, and I felt that some more resistance to get my combos right, etc, would do good.

I’ll soon try full glass cannon, to see wether my full combo can really kill a player. The problem with that is if we get stunned, knock-down, or if 2 players get on you… We just die in 2 seconds…
