So I haven’t found the HoT build I’ve been looking for. So let’s have a thread for requesting builds.
I’m looking for something non-glass, durable in the jungle, preferably helping me to master the new chrono skills.
Noted, jetpacks with rockets aren’t likely.
Yet the question still remains. If we could gain some altitude, our gliders could become ‘flyers’.
What about the various asuran movement-related technologies? Launchpads, that vista in LA that shoots you towards an island… None of them seem quite there yet, but with three colleges funding various research, flight could become a thing real fast.
What about zephyrite crystals, who are now littered all across drytop?
What about freaking masters of air, who can bend the winds to their will? An elementalist would be a master of movement with a pair of cloth wings!
So, in order to move through the dense jungle, we will be using gliders…
Seems rather low-tech, doesn’kitten
Asura have mastered magnetism and levitation, even teleportation.
Charr have helicopters and knowledge of gunpowder.
Even the Sylvari have floating seed pods.
We could use any of these to gain altitude or make a handy jet pack, instead of just floating a bit and diving towards our death, right? Right?
The issue is we don’t know how much micromanaging Zhaitan actually did. In my time on this forum I’ve heard theories ranging from a massive hive mind personally directing every corrupted being to a beast who just lounges and eats with no thought for tactics or what’s going on beyond its borders, leaving such things to its generals. Either extreme has as much proof as the other, and none of the middle ground stands out as being particularly more likely either. Until we have more evidence to work off- hopefully with Mordremoth, but possibly still years in the future- the extent and nature of the mental connection is going to come down to which pet theory you decide to champion. It seems like you’ve made up your mind that the dragon champions received frequent updates on what Zhaitan wanted, and yes, in that case it’s a little baffling they don’t notice the absence. My best suggestion from that point of view is to assume that they’re instructed/‘programmed’ to follow standing orders until new ones override them, however long that might be.
At least the grand direction obviously was given by the dragon. If it’s a massive hivemind, then it should have collapsed when its core was gone, I don’t see why are they still so organized.
We can see from other dragons.
Mordremoth obviously directly command the Modrem through a hive mind structure. The Sylvari got controlled when came too close to it.
Jormag and the icebrood share a telepathic link, even if its champion’s connection went off the icebrood would attack it. Dragonspawn’s mind affecting power also came from Jormag directly.
Primordus’ Destroyers also follow a hive mind pattern, before the dragon awoke, they all obey to the Great Destroyer and collapse when it was killed.
Mordemoth is the dragon of plant and mind, so his hive mind connection with the sylvari is unique.
Primordus is arguably the only dragon that doesn’t only corrupt but also creates sentience in dead matter. Yes the risen were dead but they came from sentient beings and yes plants aren’t exactly sentient but they are alive. The destroyers seem more like drones than troops in my opinion, walking rocks that just follow where they are pointed to.
I’m at a loss when it to kralkatorric and jormag though, since they also show some power over the domain of ‘mind’.
Well the mesmer’s main attribute in GW1 was Fast Casting, so mesmers were the best profession to give the chronomancer. I would say it’s a natural extension of mesmer magic, just as Minister Reiko was the first mesmer known to use clones.
I feel like this is true for all classes. Dragonhunter is just a strong guardian.
That being said, we will probably see some justification for classes in our main allies. Belinda is the first necromancer we see using a greatsword. Braham is a guardian and the son of a legendary ‘dragonhunter’, Eir, who also uses a longbow.
What would be really interesting if we see references to old lore: the druids of the maguma and the reapers of grenth…
Well you are on a lore-forum, of course people here enjoy the lore.
I really wish the Wall of the Mists was based of a more elegant looking shield. I don’t want spikes and a basic looking shield just because it’s purple and misty
I’ve had the same problem with whisperblade. I wish they had based those on bonetti’s rapier or something.
I never really saw the appeal of this shield. Is it because of nostalgia?
I’m on my way of building The Flameseeker Prophecies
Don’t forget we’ll be getting new legendaries with HoT.
I’m thinking:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hero%27s_Shield
Though this would work for a Sylvari:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Shield_of_the_Moon
Basically it has to be small and rounded.
Those are some tasty shields indeed!
hear my rhyme
all who will control time
what type of shield
will your chronomancer wield?
I think I’m going with this beauty http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/thumb/d/d0/Guardian_of_the_Six.jpg/606px-Guardian_of_the_Six.jpg

I’d also like to point out the additional reflect we get. Now we have Focus and Shield giving reflection.
How do you plan to equip both focus and shield at the same time?
Weaponswap?
Absolutely exited!
A thought came to mind: we won’t get a phantasm on our shield, but perhaps specializing in chronomancer will unlock a new utility phantasm, like phantasmal defender. That way chronomancers will get to chose if they want phantasms or something else. It’s a possibility.
How about these?
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Flame_Legion_Effigy
Magical moving construct = golem
Gooooooood question. I’m already planning on converting gold to gems for more character slots, because I’ll want a revenant. And if each class can have more than one specialization, will two free character slots be enough?
I’ve always found those pirates strange. How is it that in 25 years, hundreds of animated plants casually found their way into pirate-society? It just seems so improbable…
On the other hand, why would hundreds of asura want to join a gang of pirates where they have little chance of pursuing their intellectual goals?
Hmm. I like “Lion’s Dawn.”
It’s got a nice ring, and harks back to LA as a critical early victory for them.
Lions Dawn kicks kitten . Aside from all the great jokes, this is the kind of name that really fits with the gang.
Where the kitten is Hob-o-tron?!
“Those Meddling Kids”
My vote!
And LA simply means “Lions Arch”, and us fans use that abbreviation, not NPC’s.
I know what LA means, and NPC’s do use it now. I think Rox even used to say DR instead of divinity’s reach way back during the queens jubelee.
I remembered Jeff Grubb works/worked there so now there is only one real answer:
“Dragonbait”
And this has my vote!
I don’t really like this idea… there is no way all players is going to agree on one name (I have very little trust in the wisdom of the playerbase, and the forum only ever proves me right in that distrust)
Shhht, I know it’s a long-shot. But let us pretend it’s not and just have fun with names for a while!
McCoy’s Angles.
Nuff said.
Great name, but no way this would ever get in-game :p
LA isn’t a nickname, it’s an abbreviation, just like DR or CoF are abbreviations.
It still bothers me when NPCs use pet names for location in GW2. It took me two releases to figure out “the Reach” wasn’t some new location in Tyria but just Marjory’s pet name for DR. It’s like writing a abbreviations in a story without explaining to the audience what the abbreviations are – they just cause confusion because the abbreviations aren’t universal. Tyria is so big without having to worry about pet names for locations you may not even remember their official names because there are so many of them.
I disagree, I think it gives more flavor to the way npc’s precieve the world around them. ‘LA’ might be a bit strange for the medieval setting, but talking about ‘the reach’ is logical and sounds pretty awesome at the same time. It’s just like ‘the states’ instead of ‘the united states of America’, so it seems logical that some of the characters use this name instead.
The topic sais it all: let us talk about better names for Destiny’s edge 2.0, then we vote. If we’re lucky and the new fanname get’s popular, Anet could addopt it ingame (just like npc’s use the name LA now instead of Lions Arch.)
All ideas are welcome, but let’s go for something with the same level of epicness as ‘The fellowship of the ring’ or ‘The order of the phoenix’. I know you lore-junkies have enough inspiration to think of something.

I always assumed this guy:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Councillor_Yahk
But then again, his dialogue states: “My access to the Inquest has made it possible for me to outsource the Council’s project vetting to them.” which would suggest he’s not on top of the food chain but just a member.
If you’re wondering where you saw it before, it’s also on the bandithaunt caverns in Queensdale for example.
It’s the eternal alchemy, as seen fron Scarlets view, and the pale tree is in the centre because she’s a Sylvari. That’s what I could understand from the dialogue, but I’m also confused why my Asura saw the tree in the centre…
Who is in charge of LA right now? Is the captains council still active or are the lionguard in charge?
And without the help of the Zepherites, who is taking care of rebuilding LA?
And why does no one seem to care that one of their allies has been shot out of the sky and vines are crushing waypoints and people without warning?
No lionguard searchparties, no fear of transportation failure affecting the economy and no mass hysteria that Mordy will reach from underground and grab you in your sleep?!
WTF LA?!
Another, two pirates in False lake, Lornar’s pass:
“So, what did you do before this?”
“Taxidermy.”
These are great
My oppinion: The Sylvari are more than just plants, the are an inteligent race who have only been for 26 and a half year on this world. This is a unique situation, seeing as other races mostly have had a long history and evolution in psychology and culture, just like the humans on earth have.
They have a high understanding of philosophy and a curiossity that couldn’t be satisfied in 26 years. This means that they wan’t to explore this new world, they want to understand it, find balance, find wisdom…
They each do this in their own way: some will travel the world, some will stay in the grove, some will fight, some will never hurt a fly, some will turn to nightmare because they think Ventari’s teachings are holding them back… And ofcourse some will study the arcane, try to solve the mysteries that are held by the elements.
Fire is an almost breathing force of nature, distructive and comforting. I think any Sylvari would find fire fascinating and an elementalist wouldn’t be satisfied until he has mastered the unpredictable nature of fire. Understanding fire also means you can control it and prevent it from hurting the nature around you.
As for thinking plants and fire don’t go together at all: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Flametouched_Husk
Husks are still weird to us, but it seems they are capable of creating fire that doesn’t damage their plant-bodies.
Two asuran lovers in Desider Atum:
-"All muds are not equal my dear. You must take in consideration the metals and the biological materials in your sample. Something as common as an embedded fosil can throw of the entire equation. "
-“I love it when you talk dirt.”
Loved this Asuran joke since my first character was lvl 10ish.
Guys, rewatch the trailer and pause at 1.08, the main antagonist is hidden in the shot.
I’d disagree with your analysis of the asura, actually. Those are certainly the cultural standards of their race, but the asura are so loose-knit that many, perhaps even the majority, of those that venture out of the homogenous cultural centers don’t give a fig about that. We have plenty of examples of asura working abroad who treat other races as full equals, if a bit slow on the uptake.
I see your point, but I can’t think of any example where the Asura doesn’t have any arrogant undertones. Even Asura aboard always try to act objectively and in the name of science… Which leads me to believe they all share those same core characteristics. But feel free to prove me wrong. The only exception are pirates I think.
I would rather see Anet’s time, work, and resources go into further developing the actual lore of the gameworld, but that’s just me.
Yeah, but while we wait for actual content, we can spend our time debating nonsense like this
Is it possible to have interspecies relationships in GW2?
I’d say yes, mainly because it depends on if the writers want it.
I think the devs won’t ever give us a conclusive answer on that.
I’ve given it some more thought and I admit I’ve been to radical. In real life I support homosexual rights because I believe adults should be able to make their own choices, so if I would live in a world with more than one inteligent races, I would support their right of free choice to have interspecies (happy now Iason? :p) relationships. I think my fear of encountering some freaky fanfics or rule 34 on my precious forum got the better of me.
Yet, given the racial characteristics, I’d say it’s still near impossible, or at least for Asura and Charr.
Not only does the Asuran culture dictate that they’re superior to other races, they are arrogant in nature. You can argue that there are exceptions, but even exceptions seem verry unlikely in a society where you’re supposed to be as objective as possible and try to establish your superiority in order to ‘be someone’. ‘Lowering themselves’ to relationships with other races seem more of a taboo with the Asura than any other race. Plus their arrogance causes other races to loathe them (not all Asura ofcourse, but it happens often).
So both for nature and nurture, I say no-go.
Interspecies relationships with Charr aren’t unlikely because of their nature, but their culture is a different story. As a Charr, everything in your life is tied to being in a warband. These warbands are strict and even dogmatic. Friendship with other races could already be a problem if you have an extra mean legionnaire, but relationships would really be frowned upon. With that in mind, a Charr would certainly think twice before starting a relationship. Even a Gladium, raised by the rules of the legions, could still be to proud to ever get freaky. And keep in mind that every Charr-player is in a warband (unless you’ve got some role-playing thing going).
The humans are neutral, some will frown some will not, depends on your enviroment.
Sylvari are curious in nature, so that’s a real possibility.
Norm are also rather free minded. Some Norm might even be proud of the fact they could conquer men or women from other races…
Yeah, that’s todays topic. Over on the asura forum, this thread is going on:
“So, I can’t stop thinking about handsome charrs. I am Asura and proud to be. I just can’t help but to think how cute charr are and how I want to hug and cuttle their soft fur. Do you think it’s romantic? Or do you asura and/or charr think the same? Do you even think a romance is possible.”
" It could happen. Most Asura are attracted to brains, and Charr are attracted to strength/ferocity, but it’s a big, wide world out there. Somewhere out there I’m sure there’s a Charr who wants a cute little Asura partner for his very own.
For the record, my male Charr is currently in a relationship with a female human."
So yeah… I think they are confusing possibility with their own weird desires, but I’ve come to you guys for a broader perspective. Do Tyrians go freaky with other races?
Given anything we know about the races, their behavior and their culture, I think it’s near impossible, except for the occasional freaky outcast (which probably doesn’t involve a cute relationship like these fangirls want, but more of a sexual deviant one). Your thought?
Because I may be wrong or bias, I’m going to ask this on the lore-forum for a broader opinion.
@Audrixy: It could happen. Most Asura are attracted to brains, and Charr are attracted to strength/ferocity, but it’s a big, wide world out there. Somewhere out there I’m sure there’s a Charr who wants a cute little Asura partner for his very own.
For the record, my male Charr is currently in a relationship with a female human.
If you know anything about the lore, you should know that both of those relationships are near impossible. Please don’t confuse possibility with personal desire…
So this is the kind of people that lurk around this forum? No wonder I don’t take you folks seriously.
I don’t want to be offensive, but fantasies of romance between childlike midgets and big angry furries seem like the kind of thing you should seek some help for…
But to answer your question, the only way if there would be any attraction between the two is if the Charr took a mortarshell to the head and the Asura suffered from so much radiation his brain went numb… And the charr had big ears…
It would be so great if we got to see more of these. Some insight in the lore of the professions would be great.
It’s strange though how this group of extravagant flashy mages is so well hidden while the order of whispers is just standing around ever corner, saying hello to everyone who passes by and always wears their trademark uniform in broad daylight. Aaand what a shock it was to finally know that the real identity of the big order of whispers chief Spoilerwas a high-ranking member from the order of whispers!
There’s also a portal near a broken bridge, this would be a more likely candidate to open up since the image of the portal that anet released was more natural, although it doesn’t fit completely. It would be stupid if Anet opens an entire new portal when there are these two portals lying around since launch.
Either way, WP is a good starting point. Yes he might not have the gift of ‘being-godkitten -right-all-the-freaking-time-and-schooling-the-entire-lore-forum’ like Konig, but he can keep you up to date with what’s happening in game and what the community is talking about. His video’s can also introduce new lorediggers to some old theories: What’s happening at Garrenhof might be old news to you and me, but watching the video might be a better sollution for new players than digging trough the forums for example. He also keeps digging up old theories with new patches, which helps you get a larger view of the lore.
And then you can dig for more details and evidence by browsing through the wiki, asking on the forum, getting schooled by Konig…
And yes I speak from experience, WP helped me a lot to get more invested in the lore of gw2.
When I was first getting invested in the lore, I learned a lot from this guy:
https://www.youtube.com/user/WoodenPotatoes
Go see some of his older videos first, like his ‘gw2 mysteries’. He isn’t an all-knowing wizard, but his speculations are a good starting point to explore the bits of information on the wiki and the lore-forum. One of the best things about him is that he talks about updates and keeps you in the loop lore-wise with the living world when you don’t have time to play gw2.
Amen brother. Both the forums and the facebook has always been infested with nay-sayers who can’t get over the issues and look at the assets of gw2. It’s good that the devs also hear the other part of the playerbase.
I think the mayority of the players who are invested in the story are excited for season 2.
Btw, I’m glad I’m not always the hero. There are millions of characters in the gw2 universe, it would seem rather crappy that they would all be the awesome hero who saved the universe from doom. I like being among the ranks: a commander in the pact, a faceless wanderer who joins up with some others and become the heroes of LA… It’s just a personal taste, I like being a not-so-extrordinary character who the steps up to the plate when he’s needed to.
/equip tinfoil hat
Is it possible that when the sea was turned to jade it was infused with magic, and that magic keeps it jade? And that it is slowly reverting back to water since the magic is being drawn out / consumed by something (cough elder dragon cough)
Just a random idea I had
That’s what I was saying I think to only logical way for jade to thaw into water is if the magic is wearing of.
And bubbles could be a suspect.
First thing that came to my mind: how the hell does jade thaw?!
Same way water petrifies? Just in reverse.
Yes but Jade is not a natural form of water. Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the jade sea water that was transformed into jade trough magic? It seems weird to me that magical jade just naturally thaws into water, without any changes in heath or pressure that we know of.
It would seem logical to me if the magic that caused the transformation was stored inside the jade and is now seeping out, reversing the change.
If thats correct, we can probably speculate untill we can tie bubbles to the thawing…
First thing that came to my mind: how the hell does jade thaw?!
And if you’re on board with all the theories about the wizards tower, there’s a good chance some are made from human souls….
But those also fit into the first category.
This would be cool to figure out, but I fear you’re going to hit some walls…
Mostly a game designer would a pick a specific name just because it sounds cool.
On the other hand, instead of shooting you down, let me give you some points for creative thinking. It’s not a probable idea, but it’s wat better than “I want a to play a quaggan because they’re cute”.
It’s also because of the fact that most asura non cute faces are ugly as hell.
In my opinion anyway.
It can make your character more interesting.
What I think might be a little bit of a problem is, there is really no present baseline for asura faces, and how they are supposed to look. Should they look cute? Should they look old and wizened? Or something in between? Of course, thus leads to either people not caring, people looking to the NPC’s for a standard, the players setting a baseline based on personal preference, or an in-universe explanation for why the faces should look the way they do.
Regardless of how the faces “Should” look, actions speak louder than words, and what the majority ends up liking, well, that’s what is gonna end up the norm. Also, let’s be honest, the majority of players don’t read these forums, for some reason or another.
I get the feeling that the only people who read this forum are the cute-lovers. Just look at this thread alone and count the number of ‘^^’ and ‘:)’.
It just lacks something to counter it, there should be a ballance between cute and severe… I mean, the Taimi-haircut looks nice and cute, but it does get bland when everybody has it.
If that’s how they are going to talk constantly… let’s not.
And I must say the idea doesn’t excite me at all… From my point of view, there’s nothing that ties in to any established lore, no connections to the dragons, no religion, no real personality either, no great expectation of “what’s lying behind the tengu wall?” or “how does a largos city look like?”…
Of course you can tinker some lore together, like: “golems are improved with dragonmagic which we discovered by reading dwarven tomes…” But that would just leave the sour taste of wasted opportunities to tap into established lore, just like living world season one did.
Also, how would this agree with the asura? The majority of the asura would still see the golems as inferior and they would want them under their control. For a sentient golem-race, there would be a golem revolution and a war between the golems and the asura. And you and I both know anet wouldn’t set their own races up against each other.
