I think Anet’s devs just saw how cute an asura necro could be with the trickster mask (actually giving you those “cat’s eye”) and have made this available for all asuras <3
This is what I am talking about, why do Asura always need to be cute for you guys?
Because why not?
Being cute is basically their trademark.
The way I see it, the persuit of their intelect; to the point where it’s almost cruel; is their trademark. Looking down on other races, little consideration for others, the succes of the experiment is often taken before the safety of the crewe…
Is there anywhere in the game where an npc mentions that asura are cute?
If anyone would say to Zojja that she’s cute, wouldn’t she come up with the most colorful insults and threats to make sure that person would never say that again?
This is cute:

This… not so much:

I think Anet’s devs just saw how cute an asura necro could be with the trickster mask (actually giving you those “cat’s eye”) and have made this available for all asuras <3
This is what I am talking about, why do Asura always need to be cute for you guys? There is nothing in this face that reflects any characteristics of the asura.
My bigger problem with the faces is the fact that they’re retextures of the same face with different eyes. That’s horribly lazy and disappointing. “3 new faces!”… yah, more like 1 new face with 2 variations.
Not quite as kittenylvari who get 3 “new” faces which are ALL just retextures of one of the faces from the previous face pack, but still…
Taking a closer look, this seems to be the case with most of the faces. Look at the humans and the norn…
I think these faces are for a different market, one that this game just recently launched in.
Ah, could be.
So, is everybody happy with the new faces? I personally think that they all look so babyfaced and ‘cute’. And yes, a lot of you like your asura to be cute, but Anet went overboard this time. The main feature of the asura is that they’re intelligent godless beings, not make-up dolls for fangirls.
But feel free to prove me wrong.
Why do you all keep necroing this thread?!
It’s just wishful thinking, but I hope that this year, there will be more hints towards Glints child being discovered and protected by the Zephyrites. I recently rewatched WP’s guild wars mysteries and this was a real possibility back when the Sactum first landed:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgFdfuuRkRg
This could be a long-term mystery, or Mister Morde could already send a champion to hunt the uncorrupted dragon down. Who knows, mere speculation.
This question has been asked before. (Spoiler: you will be disappointed)
-Flameseeker profecies ties directly to gw1, and is the only legendary with real lore.
-The incinerator and the predator are marvels of Charr technology.
-Kraitkin is tied to the krait, but you could’ve guessed that.
-The Howler is made by the norn.
-And euh…
DSD. Why?
“Captain Magnus, are you sure it’s safe to sail these waters? If the reports were true then…”
“I don’t care! I will not leave this place untill I find out what happened to those men.”
“Did you feel that? Captain? … CAPTAIN!!”

Ok, thanks for the insight folks.
So getting soldiers gear is a waste of g?
I’m rocking full zerker gear in pve with scholar runes.
What would be the best alternate gear for extra survivability? I know that zerker doesn’t work against tequatl for example. Are there other fights where this is the case?
If there should be a new weapon in game: knuckles.
It’s great for both warrior and guard (perhaps also engineer) and I like the idea of wielding sword/knuckle (punching people while in a swordfight.)
Tis would bring out a more raw mesmer: less confusion-rays and smokescreens, more deceptive strikes to beat the crap out of people. And more focus on… crow-control? Lockdown? Something along those lines.
Spatial hook: punch a foe to send him flying and knock him back while aplying confusion.
Illusionary hurl: sumon a clone right behind your foe that casts spatial hook, sending him towards you.
Phantasmal hoodlum: first phantasm aplies criple, second one torment and third one immobility (or something like that, perhaps this is a bit OP). The idea is that when you have 3 phantasms out, they gang up on your foe and pummel him like a bunch of street thugs while keeping him locked down.
Fast punching frenzies, dodge-attacks, ect.
Thoughts? (other than I’d don’t have a clue how the game works and my idea’s are either OP or useless?)
Since it’s the new trait hunt might bring us there, we also migth see some new info… But it will just be another small teaser because anet knows the players are dying to explore the tower!
In almost every thread here people complain about our bugged features, don’t pretend that it’s not a big thing!
Confirmed fake.
Ah, ty for the info. Although it would be interesting, I was worried it would be as useless as http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rampage
+ I don’t see it contribute to any viable playstyles.
Forgive me if this was already posted on this forum but:

Mesmer
• Phantasmal Mastermind—Illusion: Transform yourself into a large phantasm version of yourself that smacks enemies with illusionary hands. Your current illusions are destroyed upon transforming.
Wha…?
So you can spend spend hours collecting traits… or simply pay 5 gold to a vendor to unlock them. This reasoning and design is kittening stupid.
Screw my gold, I’m doing this content with my lvl 80ies just for the heck of it!
Btw I think it’s 5 gold per individual trait, so you can spend hours collecting traits or ‘simply’ spend the gold you’ve already spend hours on collecting. Anet’s reasoning seems good to me.
Watch it, feel really intrigued, then realise this is old news and it will take a while until we’ll get any new information from Anet.
And then go cry in a corner.
I’ve been playing with both shatter builds and phantasm builds, yet now I want to take up lockdown. I’ve read some of the lockdown builds here online, but I’m not sure which one would be best to start with, or how I learn the playstyle.
Could you help me out?
(most comfortable with swords, pistol and focus, but I’m willing to try something new.)
I’ve been rollin’ asura mesmer ever since I’ve got the game. At first… well I just wanted an army of midgets with swords… But even after that nooby fase I still enjoy it a lot.
I’d say you’d better choose a race based on the lore and the look you want, but ofcourse keep an open mind for changing weapons and such.
Devs confirmed.
Scarlets plot will lead to a new profession: Meatzerker!
And there we were, brave heroes from all over Tyria. We had come a long way and faced many dangers. We were no stranger to the battlefield. And now we were to face our greatest challenge yet, our final battle…
We stood before the large horde of foes, a massive army of different races. Among the were twisted mechanical creatures, made my the mad sylvari who led them. Above the army was a large towering spacecraft with a gigantic drill. We could hear the sound of drilling over the battlecries. Whe did not know what it’s purpose was, but the scent of evil was coming from beneath the earth…
A feeling of fear overcame me. I looked towards our leader: a young norn, son of Eir Stegalkin. For a brief moment he looked back at me. He nodded and whispered: “for the ham…” He raised his weapon and started charging towards the battlefield, all the heroes of Tyria rallying behind him. As we ran towards our fate, we cried…
“FOR THE HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM!”
kitten . When I saw this I thought we’d be talking about this picture.
… What if Scarlet plans to take over Tyria with an army of rocketpowerd Dolyaks?! Gasp
I thought it were connections between her thumpers at first… The red thorn vine is her symbol/signature. Perhaps her endgame will have something to do with growing a red thorn vine all across Tyria.
Mere speculation ofcourse.
Agreed, it was great.
On a less lore-related topic: I’ve grown so fond of the marionette battle that I’m even starting to like Scarlet more. It feels really dynamic, everyone has to work together and anet has clearly tried to make it less zerg and more tactical.
This is LS patch is just good in it’s whole I think.
Kudos anet.
As an Asura (don’t know for sure about the other races) you can ask her if Zojja is ok with her being here. She responds something along the lines of: “go ask her yourself, I’ve heard from you btw, you’re the snaff savant.”
So yeah, I think she is under Zojja’s care. That’s how she got the golems and the attitude. That being said, I’d love to see/read how Zojja and Taimi work as teacher-student, their personnalities would be so interesting together.
Ok thanks folks, I’ll just play the waiting game for now.
So I’m nearing the end of my quest for materials to make my first ascended armor piece (the pants).
But with the upcoming changes I’m not sure what stats I should go for. Could you guys help me out or is it hard to predict yet?
I’m currently running a phantasm build for dungeons but was planning on changing it up to shutdown mesmer for WvW and PvP.
I had my eyes on Zojja (because zerker gear is currently a must in dungeons) or Wupwup (jack of all trades so I don’t need to recraft my armor when something changes).
I’m not even sure if I’ll get more ascended armor than the pants in the recent future (you might think I’m crazy, but I’m doing it for the skin :p).
Your thoughts? Thanks.
Well my dear Stephen, from the looks of the new update, we might get some new answers
“E” might have nothing to do with the character’s real name and just be there to throw us off.
Whoever it is, they’re likely going to be the fifth member of the new Destiny’s Edge. Since they’ve already got a charr, a norn and two humans, E is most likely an asura or sylvari. I’m betting asura; probably someone who knew Scarlett while she was attending the three colleges.
If a new destiny’s edge is forming (which I would find rather lame btw) then I’d say Kasmeer will die, Canach will be the sylvari and we’re still short one Asura. Although Dessa is an important character…
Mere speculation of course.
I’d love to see a new dynamic event with the next update:
“Save Logans look-alike from the angry dredge.”
Kinda makes me want to change servers to a role playing server…
Hi Bellyboomer,
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I concede that the theory linking Summoned Husks to an Elder Dragon is strong.I do wonder, however, how much importance we should attribute the Wiki, which is player-maintained. Given that the “Nightmare Beast” (aka Shadow Of The Dragon) in the sylvari starter instance does not summon Summoned Husks, but instead Nightmare Hounds, it is debatable whether we can truly associate Summoned Husks with the SOTD in the starter instance.
Perhaps the passing semblance between the model of the SOTD and the model of Summoned Husks, that being the strange yellow glow from the belly of the beast, is the strongest reason we have to entertain the idea that the SOTD and the Summoned Husks are related. However, I feel that any attempt to link Summoned Husks to Elder Dragons can only be formed when we consider the evidence presented to us at the Crucible Of Eternity. Without that evidence, every other attempt at associating Summoned Husks with anything to do with Elder Dragons does not carry enough weight to be considered acceptable. But that is just my opinion, of course, and it is by no means the only one
You’re probably more of a lore-hound than me, I’m just passing my time here while I should be studying
The idea of the Husks and the SOTD’s yellow glow didn’t occur to me until I saw it on the wiki. Rently I also saw: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Great_Jungle_Wurm
“The Great Jungle Wurm is an enormous Nightmare Vine in the heart of Wychmire Swamp, south of Twilight Arbor. Although it spawns Summoned Husks and Nightmare Hounds, Gamarien believes its presence there is the result of a “much darker force” than the Nightmare Court, and simply defeating it is not enough to clear the local corruption. "
Again, this isn’t evidence of a link with Mordremoth, and the “much darker force” could be anything. Yet at launch the main focus of the plot were the ED, and I’d think the most logical thing would be if this darker force was a hint towards future dragon-shenanigans. So unless Anet includes a 180 in the living story, this would still be the case.
(edited by Bellyboomer.3048)
And your opinion has been stated before. A lot.
Unless you’re going for the 100000th-Scarlet-hate-post award, this post is pointless and frankly annoys me greatly.
A teleport-thingy for your home instance, that’s what I’d want. Since Anet tried to get the home instance to work, it would be great if we saw an item or a button that gets us to our home without any costs.
That, plus more unlockables for you home, like a trophy shelf and a wardrobe for your countless skins.
From the wiki:
“The Shadow of the Dragon is the form taken by the shadow of evil that has infected the Dream. If the player character is a sylvari, it blocks the path to their awakening and must be vanquished before the player can enter the world. Physically, it resembles a dragon champion and seems to be composed of plant matter, with an orange glow at its core not dissimilar to that of the Summoned Husks.
Although Caithe attributes its presence to the Nightmare Court, the Pale Tree believes it to be a manifestation of the player’s Wyld Hunt to defeat Zhaitan. "
We won’t be certain until we get updates and new evidence, but in my eyes the husks, jungle worm and schadow of the dragon are all tied to Mordremoth.
Remembered this: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/who-are-the-aetherblades/
“The word “aether” has air and magic connotations, and “blades” helps convey the swashbuckling side of pirates.”
It doesn’t explain lore-wise why the aetherblades are called that way, just the devs process. But it does give some insight. I’d say aether can be defined as ‘the magic in the air’: mesmers pull energy out of thin air to cast ether bolt for example.
I do wonder if the difference is significant. It is something interesting the players picked up but it could just be some magical-mumbo-jumbo anet put in their dialogues without any thought.
Could you explain why you think it is matter and antimatter?
The current professions seem to have been carefully balanced out and cover all bases. For that reason, I think we’ll see a new race before we see a new profession. But Before that…
NEW WEAPONS!
There are some issues with this: new weapons could require new traits. In order to expand the traitsystem anet will either have to get rid of some traits or increase the amount of traitpoints we’re given and therefor perhaps also the levelcap…
In my opinion they would also have to make sure they release a couple of weapons at the time so that each profession gets a new one but they don’t all have to share the same weapon.
And of course it would take a lot of time making all the new models.
My candidates are:
Knuckles: awesome when dualwielded but could also make cool offhand weapons (punching your foe in the face during a swordfight)/ Imagine mesmers with this, illusions ganging up on a foe and beating it like a bunch of hoodlums.
Flail/whip: both are awesome, a flail is like an upgraded version of the mace and strikes fear into your foes hearts, whip would be more of an elegant ranger weapon.
Quarterstaff/baton: for the eastern vibe, would be fitting for both spellcasters and skullbashers.
Blowpipe: like the Hyleck, would do some neat condition dmg.
I’d have this set of weapons (at least the quarterstaff and the knuckles) introduced together with the Tengu: new eastern culture→ new eastern fighting styles.
I can’t seem to think of a weapon fitting for the engi yet, perhaps a cannon or something…?
Okay, now you forum! Any thoughts on this?
Although I admire the long wall of text you’ve posted and you clearly have taken your time to think this trough, I think you are wrong.
“it is not my intention at this time to explore the reasons behind their appearance at the dungeon.” Yet I think the answer is provided in CoE.
Evolved husk in CoE <=> CoE researches in dragonic magic and minions <=> The husk is a dragon minion.
Plain and simple.
The nightmare ‘corrupts’ creatures just like the ED do and the 6th dragon is confirmed to be the jungle dragon. The nightmare within the dream in the sylvari starter instance resembles a dragon.
I could be entirely wrong, but right now I dare to assume that the nightmare is connected to Mordremoth.
Although your husk-from-dead-sylvari theory is interesting, it seems like a bit of a stretch.
yeah, lore forum…
I’m glad I see this thread, I once saw the topic and recently I found myself wondering about the gods. Since I barely played gw1, I never experienced this up close.
Even though there isn’t a large chance these deities will come to life again, I’d love to see anet going back to this, even it was only a little hint that got us back on the edge of our chairs. An abandoned altar in the crystal desert or a small mention in the durmand priory… I’d be as exited to see this as to see what’s inside the wizards tower.
Btw: when I was reading the original post, I thought of: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Risen_Spider_Lord
But yeah, Konig has you by the balls again, like he does with everything on this forum
Don’t you just love when other players try to act superior by saying: “ur such a noob -.- LOL”?
Chances are high it’s just some douchy 13 year old kid who plays 24/7. I don’t care about them and neither should you.
It’s a nice list, I’ll give you that! It should go on the wiki!
But there is nothing to conclude from it, the creatures are randomly from all over Tyria…
What would the lore forum be without you Konig? :p
That does make my theory a bit harder. I could say that Dwayna could’ve been a transformed human, or she came to earth in the years before she migrated the humans, or she is a re-interpretation of an earthly god like Shiva or something…
But since that’s not convincing at all there’s no point in that.
Yet I do still think technology could be forgotten over a short period of time when we’re introduced to a whole new world. When it turns out that the largest part of everything you believe is wrong, you can’t contact your old world and you can’t even be certain wether it was real… There are great beings right in front of you telling you how to act, telling you this is your world now… Why build on your previous technology while we can (and have to) explore a new world with different laws… I think we might forget our earthlyness rather fast, and this happened over generations.
But yeah, we’ll just have to disagree on that.
I know there are multiple explanations of how the humans came to tyria: some say they came from the south, others say they first came to orr… And the same goes for the gods as well: they first came to orr from the mists, yet they we’re also around when the Jotun were a great race. It doesn’t really add up.
I can’t seem to find any statement that the gods came from the same world as the humans, yet should there be such evidence, there are other historical theories that would counter it.
I’d say the gods were inhabitants of the mists, made contact with the Jotun from the mists and when they came to Tyria, they brought along the humans from another world connected to the mists.
I don’t think that the loss of human technology or mythology is a big feature. I’d imagine there was a relatively small group of humans who came to Tyria. They were ‘dropped’ in a completely new world with different sights and different laws of nature. The little inteligence they brought along (most of them were probably unschooled peasants) could’ve been replaced by new methods that did aply to Tyria.
And while our earthly gods never really spoke to us except for the occasionnal burning bush, the gods on Tyria were walking around in a city, guiding the humans.
If I was transported to a strange world, I’d rather follow the helpfull godlike creatures than stick to knowledge from my old world.
Keep in mind that this is still just a theory and I don’t have any proof, yet there also isn’t proof for any other theory. This just seems the most likely to me.
I don’t think that’s possible, since those two worlds are so different. Mists, magics ‘n’ stuff.
It is stated on the wiki that humans had little to no magic where they came from, thus they believed the gods created magic when the humans came to this world.
The mists connects all universes.
And we have ‘stuff’ here as well!
You may try to prove me wrong, but it seems so clear to me and nobody is mentioning it…
Do you have any in world proof?
No, sorry, wrongly formulated. It’s still just a theory, but it looks so much more plausible that the other human world is in fact the real human world.
