I really thought they were going to only reward legendaries to the best pvp players using some kind of season method. With this system everyone in a few weeks will all be having legendaries if they play long enough just another grind.

I am glad they are making changes but I feel they should put a bigger emphasis on rewarding players more pvp specific rewards. Even with all these changes legendaries wont mean anything if you can just bring them in from pve. 8 months I have been waiting for anet to get the pvp system down this is disappointing.

Ya like zudet said its a long goal if you were to get all the ascended gear in like a day it would make ascended armor look worthless just like exotics are now. There really is no need to have ascended armor people like you who complain it is to hard to get are the same people saying there isn’t anything to strive for in terms of weapons/armor.

HOTJOIN is getting gold? Lol this will be good.

I’m not at the office so I can’t look it up, but if I remember correctly, you get more gold for LOSING Team Arena than you’d get for WINNING a CA/hotjoin match.

Why on earth would you reward someone AT ALL for losing? I can’t really see how that can work..won’t this encourage afk players or people bsing around for free money…

Also I don’t see how gold in hotjoins can make any sense. Maybe the steam on friday will clear things up.

How long does it take to get from R15 to R30?

If you only have an hour to play a day there is no way you can achive r30 before dec10. Doing a lot of hot joins maybe 5 hours + a day might get you r30 in a around 2-3 weeks from r15. Will be way shorter if you choose a roamer class that can get a lot of kills.

My thoughts on whats to come are positive EXCEPT for the Gear changes and Gold as the only currency.
Gear

  • So if I am reading the blog right essentially there will be no type of PvP gear that shows you are a good PvP player —-just another PvE player. Having PvE gear in PvP diminishes the value of the gear and does not let you show off if your a good PvP player. This also(rarely) works vice versa, I feel there should be some type of middle ground to this change so that gear aquired in PvP and PvE don’t devalue the “worth” of skill in acquiring them.

Gold

  • If Gold is the only Currency this can be a problem. There should be a PvP specific currency that is acquired through tournaments and seasons in order to purchase PvP gear. Gold being the only currency will diminish the value of PvP gear as PvE players with butt loads of gold can just buy the gear and think they are pro now. No this shouldn’t happen.
    Side thought:
    I feel the new ladder system should be directly apparent in game on scoreboards like ranks are now. Also not having to go on a website to view leader board can be a plus to this. Other than that I am remaining positive to the upcoming changes.

My questions:

  • What are your thoughts on how PvE gear in PvP might diminish the skill value of the player (ie, flame legion armor being way harder to obtain in PvP than PvE).
  • Will the new ladder ranking system be directly implemented in the game as ranks are now instead of a website?
  • Will current leader boards ever be view able in game?
  • These “PvP specific rewards” will they be skins and can they be used in PvE?

PvE Skins over to PvP?(Discussion)

So after reading the blog post

I am pretty skeptical to the one change about gear. This can essentially mean gear that can be hard to obtain in PvP which shows you are a good player/spent time can be acquired in a week in PvE. Even though there aren’t any of those skins now(although when paid tournaments were around there were some) in the future this could be a problem.

If this transition is being done I feel it shouldn’t be all skins otherwise we will see loads of PvE players with their legendaries thinking their pro now in PvP and it will be so sad.

The only hope I have seen in this blog post is the part about ladders/seasons and how you can obtain specific pvp-rewards(whatever those are).

Other than that I feel all the changes are going to be awesome. What do you think?

I’ve been doing PvE ever since hoping that I would be lured someday into playing PvP and this is exactly what I’ve been waiting for!
Not only will it encourage me to PvP more often but for the meantime will certainly encourage me to keep leveling my character in PvE going for the ultimate armor, knowing that I will be able to use that armor in PvP (yes I’m talking about the looks, not the stats… I could care less about that)..

Yes, it’s just awesome to reward people in a pvp blog for doing more pve! And unlocking pvp skills with skillpoints obtained in pve is super great too!

Seems pretty ok.
There’s not much to go on, as it’s the implementation that will matter.
How much gold should we expect?
What will replace rank?
If everything can be bought with gold, now does that mean we will have people with credit card in hand buying armors that previously were signs of prestige?
If that’s the case, will “prestige” be moved to rewards tied to leaderboard/ladder position or divisions?

It all sounds like it could be catering to pve gold farmers, where are the exclusive rewards for skilled players?

There are too many currencies in this game, that’s for sure, but I don’t think that the pvp-based glory was a problem. It smells of wanting to monetize pvp through gems.

I really really hope they don’t make it so there are no skins that show signs of you being a good player. If players can just buy all the skins through gold that will be very disappointing.

I feel if there is any transition between pve and pvp gear it should only be one sided. You should only be able to carry over pvp gear to pve not the other way around imo.

So the year is almost over and this was posted by Anet on July 18, 2013. Can any devs speak about this, no significant reward changes have been made unfortunately and unless posted elsewhere I haven’t seen any specific reward changes for pvp by a dev.

ATM the rewards and progression system in GW2 does not keep a large amount of players interested in playing. Having a RNG based system where everyone can essentially have the same skins as you does not feel rewarding to players. There simply are no rewards that you can show off in pvp that displays your skill/talent.

When a player sees another with rank 60 gear people don’t go “wow he must be a very good player” rather “wow he must have a lot of time on his hands”.

The rewards system should be revamped not in a way that just hands out gold for every match(although that’d be cool) but rather it should be done in a way which portrays a persons skill.


My suggestions, please upvote and comment if you agree.

1. A Real Tournament System
-Example: A three time a week tournament system where there is a new currency you can obtain to buy new skins. Also this tournament is on going at a specific time interval so you can queue back in. Should be an alternate way of advancing your mmr considerably then team queue.

2. Find ways to demonstrate skill in battle while being balanced
-Example: Before starting a match you choose what role your playing: Bunker, DPS, Hybrid, Support, Ect. This gives a way to add extra points for doing things like ie. standing on a point for a bunker= + 1 every 3 sec …+4 every 3 sec with 2 people on it..ect. This can be done to show top players in a match to directly affect mmr without just a win/loss ratio.

3. Don’t just give out awesome skins to everyone
Just handing out skins is not the way to go. There should be incentive in trying to make your character standout and the wrong way is to make it so people can get skins that take a day to get. The RNG/Mystic forge system atm is discouraging because their aren’t any skins which show you are a good pvp player/good at what you do.

4. Legendaries
-Should only be obtainable by the best PvP players(No I am not an elitist) They should have that wow factor when you see them on another player. Even in PvE, players with legendaries aren’t looked up too and legendaries don’t seem all that ’legendary.

-Example: have a bi-weekly tournament(or even monthly) that everyone can take part in. If your team is 3rd-1st place you have a chance of selecting your own legendary.

I posted this on another thread a lot of people seemed to agree. I hope anet can put some depth in their rewards system and not just scrap something together to calm people down in the short run.

Honestly with the low player base I feel like true matchmaking should be done at a specific time of day and that should be the only way to increase your ranking. The rest of the day people could just use custom arenas.

I know that sounds bad but with a revamped rewards system this could work but with such little incentive to play custom arena it sounds stupid.

What’s done with these botting reports? Because I’ve reported it multiple times in game, but I’m not sure how the process works?

Nothing is done with them. I’ve tracked people who have been reported for teleport hacking (recorded them as well and provided). They were still doing it months later after the reports.

With the pacing of this game, don’t expect the report AFK feature any time soon:
It’s on the list.
It requires back end programming that takes alot of resources.
They’re having discussions about having discussions about it
They want to let the meta settle
They want the “BIG” tool tip changes to settle
They’ve known about the issue but don’t want to hurt the players afking too harshly so they are being very careful with potential fixes
It’s part of the glory rewards update, but first they needed to fix how glory was distributed within game modes they they are hypothetically testing which may or may not be released with the next 2 or 3 years.

I’m sure I missed a few more reasons, maybe someone can help me out.

A 3 time a week tournament called Endurance or something like that. It would use the same conquest game type but gives a currency only obtainable by doing this game mode and you can buy certain skins with said currency.

It basically rewards you more if your team wins x matches in a row. Kind of like Heroes Ascent from GW1 except at a specific time(like 4 hours) frame so queue is short and people can requeue to keep competing.

<>Not sure if this can be counted as a “game mode” but im sure others would like to see something like this. It solves the problem for incentive and rewards.

I like this a lot. However the pve hotjoin heroes will cry that they don’t want to do tournies to get existing skins so we already know anet won’t do this. But maybe they can still put these automated tournies in and create some interesting pvp-only skins that use this system.

Having a tournament 3 days a week ie( Wed, Fri, Sun) from 9pm-12am and it doesn’t require any ticket system like before. Who cares if people in hotjoin would cry just because they don’t want to compete for rewards this is pvp.

I got this idea from an online game I won’t mention. They had a system called survival at the times I listed and it was the only way to get currency to buy gear. It was a tournament style system and if you win 5 matches in a row you received +500 currency. So 1 match =50, 2=150, 3=350, 4=400, 5=500. The catch is you can requeue once you lost during the time.

On Mondays they would hold a real tournament and the reward was a beret to the top 3 teams. In this case it should be a legendary.

- progressive rewards, means rewards getting better for every consecutive win for e.g.
- in general rewards that are challenging and not a one-shot goal like armors/weapons (rewards that create incentives for a longer period of time and reward also good play, not grind)

This patch in terms of balance and quality of life imo is pretty good but what about pvp as a whole?

Devs talked about reworking the rewards system, adding incentives, and so on…but I don’t see any updates or progress on those in the patch notes.

I took a 4 month break from this game hopping this patch would lead me back and it was not because of the gameplay or anything just the lack of incentive.

You hit up solo que —--have a 50/50 chance of getting a good team and rising up the leader board——- and then what? People at the top of the leader boards rarely even play. I know for a 100% fact Euratien a friend of mine has had that same 51-13 record sense I took a break. So when you look at people in the top 10 honestly nobody really thinks much of it.

Theres no way to show off how badbass you are of a player with the way ranks and rewards are in this current pvp state. Even if your rank 60 now peole think you either just exploited it or grind all day—-they don’t think you have skill in spvp ..well at least I don’t.

Can any devs give an update on the reworkings of the rewards system in spvp ..honestly if that gets fixed and I know it will take time…people will come flocking back because this game has potential.

It’s been one year and honestly spvp is the same with a new meta. Every1 has to understand anet prioritizes PVE NOT spvp. Look at the amount of content dished out to pve over the last year compared to spvp.

I mean it’s not really the devs fault…their young and still learning and don’t have the number of staff.

gilgamesh you know they basically did that with free/paid tourny system. It was a pretty good system just that paid tournies they way it was approched was a fail and so the whole system failed and so they basically gave away all the skins making them lose their reputation.

With the new skins with champions bosses they need to introduce those to spvp very carefully and make them only obtainable in a way that people respect you and know you earned it.

Geez allie no need to delete my post when I was editing it…anyway without the caps.

Incentive is a big thing in mmorpgs theres simply is none in spvp except for the absurdly long goals of grinding ranks which is meaningless because it does not demonstrate or show off skill just how much you grind.

Just as pve is creating more rewards such as champion bosses and their loot spvp should have more rewards. Something a long the lines of individual play for solo queue and maybe a voting type of system at the end of a match where players can vote who was the most helpful in areas of the match I dunno something..

Changes are good are your right they are longgggg overdue. However there still isn’t a lot of reason to keep playing spvp there are no incentives except the leaderboards and maybe to grind ranks.

Also you haven’t missed anything I have been playing since cbt2 and pvp is the same except for a few new maps, new meta, and the custom arena which is basically hotjoin.

They got rid of the old free/paid tourny system which failed

100% agree with OP. Allie I feel the message he was trying to convey is simply there is not enough players who care about these tournaments for you devs to make a decision that affects all spvp players.

Esports will never exist with the rate things are going( cmon 6 months + to implement a solo queue?) now you might as well let everyone have their maps and let spvp die slowly.

Why do PvP Rewards Require PvE?

It’s starting to get out of hand of how many skins you can only get through doing PvE lately. Especially now since the living story content is releasing more and more skins.

How come these skins weren’t somehow integrated as some type of incentive/reward for PvP. The fused gauntlets I saw was a try…but anything with RNG and not skill angers a lot of people.

To OP..are you serious? Your saying stealth is a bad change when everyone has been begging for it since release? wow…And its STEALTH. You don’t know the number of possibilities you can achieve with it now even if its for 3 seconds.

Remorseless - Worth it to take now?

Yea its not worth it…I feel remorseless would be more effective especially in pvp if it would make you regain opening strike after 15 crits or something…considering it is a grandmaster trait its doesn’t seem that great to me imo.

They need to get it right because this is actually one of the most important factors for retaining and growing the population. Atm you’re NOT rewarded in any way for playing the tournaments except for the “champion” titles. Everything else is farmable through hotjoin and often much faster. Leaderboards are worthless because of the lack of a split.

So they better get this right, or gw2 pvp will never grow.

Exactly, look at all types of mmos not just mmorpgs games ..there’s always some type of end game goal or multiple goals to strive for. The main reason pve players don’t even bother with pvp is because lack of rewards or things to complete.

Reading the blog post for whats upcomming in 2013 really has given me some hope for sPvP https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/.

One of the biggest drawbacks for the entire game not just pvp was the lack of incentive to keep playing. In PVE most players still have going for the legendary to complete/fractals/ ect but in sPvP there really is not anything to strive for besides grinding ranks.

Anet devs please don’t just give out more RNG rewards that some players can get luckily on one match and decide to never play again. Don’t make it a glory grind because frankly when I see a player with CoF gear I don’t see them as a good sPvP player just a good grinder.

It’s already too bad orrian armor and other sets were given on a silver platter for just playing spvp in the first place now. At least with Paid tournaments in the begining (which was horribly desgined but potential imo) Gems and getting Orrian armor for example was some type of incentive.

All im saying is make something for sPvP players to actually strive for. Give them the type of rewards which doesn’t show that they grind a lot or are lucky… but actually have skill. The first step is splitting solo queue and getting the leaderboards right. From there on adding a functional daily/monthly tournament system that doesn’t fail which rewards for example ascended gear sets or something is the second step.

Marksmanship needs a complete overhaul in traits simply because power/crit specs aren’tr viable in spvp for the ranger.

The problem is the pet is 30-45% of their damage and specing for power/crit still leaves the ranger crippled since the pet doesn’t receive any buffs. Not to mention most of the rangers weapon skills favor condition specs with the longbow being an exception but sadly the longbow is trash. The greatsword could work if the auto attack didn’t have such poor dmg or if maul’s bleed was replaced with weakness or something.

Unlike going for power/crit..condi does better overall damage for the ranger and so we are limited to two builds that aren’t trash. Even trap ranger atm can’t even compare to some other class specs and of course beastmaster specs just received a huge stealth nerf.

It’s nice that your suggesting trait changes but in reality the devs will never listen to common folk like us and soon a dev will just tell you to move this to the ranger sub forum.

I disagree with thief (Edit: build breaking nerfs to all the thief builds i actually use) nerf.
I disagree passionately with Elixer R nerf.
I disagree with changes to warrior. (I won’t state how)
Edit: I’m beyond caring for my ranger, it has been dead for six months.

My remaining goodwill is gone. I’m heading to Rift.

Edit: I am thoroughly insulted that they gave a hp buff to mesmers’ clones and phantasms (which i don’t agree with, despite leveling mesmer to 80 twice and putting many hours of WvW and a bit of sPvP on it), and not touching Engineer’s Turrets.

Been playing ranger since the start got over 1k hours on it. Balance devs really didn’t put that much thought on this one. I would have been happy with the ranger nerf if they improved the horribly designed Pet AI but instead we get minor buffs to underused builds to sugarcoat the class breaking nerf that affects ALL ranger builds….btw way ahead of you on the rift part

Also whats up with most of these changes not being split from spvp..Man I feel sorry for you pve players I would be twice as enraged.

They really need to add solo que man that should be top priority. I mean honestly whats going with the dev team they can make spvp playable again in such simple ways its really frusterating. Just add solo queue ..redefine the award system..add incentives..boom all my friends would suddenly be playing spvp again.

The devs are so focused on balanced which is good but imo there are much higher priorities such as actual content. Its been more then 3 months since paid tournys failed system was cut off and this band aid solution of 1 match tournmanets still exists with so many flaws smh…

They better fix the other kitten thats wrong with the class b4 they start nerfing stuff. Pets are 50% of our damage and we have around 30% control over them.Also this better be a split between pve and pvp as pets are kitten in dungeons/wvw.

Incentive and that sense of accomplishment you know? Thats whats really missing in the rewards.

The biggest drawback on pvp to me is simply there is no way to “showoff”. There is no skin that someone has and I’d be like “wow man your a really good player” instead its more like “wow man you grind a lot…”

Autobalance at its finest.
The game should not start until there is an even number of players on both teams…. and even if it is not even….
How hard is it to limit starting spawns based on team sizes so that there are an even number of players in the map at any given moment?
If a new player joins mid-match…. or if it is uneven right from the start…
Someone is forced to spectate until the teams are even…. simple as that.
(if someone dies, they get swapped with the person waiting to play)

Hell…. even increase the respawn timer on the team with more players.

Doesn’t take rocket science to fix these issues as well as punish leavers which everyone is calling out for. Devs make such slow changes I don’t know why. most likely they being understaffed or being so scared of how we will react to a change
