Glad leader boards are finally up..but just a little confused on why they are only based on win/loss ratio.
Leader boards should be based on how well you did in the match even if your team lost. Just a suggestion, I feel those who ARE on the winning team should be rewarded more but at the same time if your top 2 on a losing team you should get some recognition.
Thoughts on this? I feel like this could be done if the points system was more in depth/expanded. Defenders need some love and a lot of team contribution goes unnoticed in the final score board.

Start match, vs premade, lose 3 matches and never play again, gg.
On a serious note, why not just continue the tournament if you win, similar to how HA worked. Fight it up the matches till you lose.
Oh I forgot to mention this system would only truly work if solo ques were separated from pre made. But even if this was implanted tommorow I feel like it would be a lot of fun because even if you go against a pre made you see their tactics the first round and can improvise.
^ Yea thats what I was thinking exactly someway to punish leavers.
I remember playing this only shooting game metal gear online and on weekends they had this thing called survival (3 rounds tourneys). The game had a ranking system like ours and also it had a grade system which you can only level up in automatching or survival. If you left a survival or automatched game you lose that grade level by a little bit So if I was grade “BB+” and left my team for no reason, it got deducted to “BB-”
Oh and also to level up your grade it wasn’t if your team won(That helped a lot tho)…it was based on how well you did in the match YOURSELF which was awesome.

Instead of doing a 3 round tournament which failed. Why not do a 2 round match with the same team and a 3rd game breaker round if the opposing team wins by only 50 points?
Just a suggestion, I feel like these 1 round tournaments are to short and with my suggestion player base isn’t a problem since its basically 1 round tournaments with more matches.
What do you guys think?
Try fractal 40+. Agony is not what kills your pets there — the mobs that routinely auto for 6-8k do.
Exactly, and it does just as much start at 30ikittenhis is the reason I don’t really use ranged pets at end bosses because they die anyway. Getting a 7k crit from my raven and letting it die is more effective sadly.
Hey don’t worry about it cos I usually kick rangers at that level. Have you had a similar experience before?
Just went to gw2lfg.com and guess what I found? (and no, that post is not made by me)
LOL, yes I have. People kicking me once they see my class is normal or until I show them my gear and AR then they sometimes have a change of heart…
Good rangers will always be good in dungeons its just really hard to do so with such a cripple pet system and lackluster utilities…Thats why I tend to leave parties myself that have 2+ rangers since I don’t know which have truly mastered the class yet
(edited by BlackhawkSOM.6401)
Devs will never allow rangers to play without their pet in gw2 they said this numerous times.
Well you have one stand until you take another… and they already allow rangers to play without pets in dungeons most of the time
This topic is about what the “ranger-community” thinks and not what devs think – devs can write what they think themselves
For me it’s just i love the range(d)r part of the play, but the pets stupid AI and wiping all the time sucks. I really believe this would make my playing experience a lot more fun.
True I agree, devs should stop trying to make us have “fun” their way…If this signet was introduced i don’t think there would be a ranger that’d be mad about it as it is adds a whole new level of play.

this was actually kind of interesting to read
You ever use combo fields to help your group blast heal, stack might, or proc weakness on your foe? Devourers make great dungeon pets since you can proc an abundance of might with it’s dual attack and RaO. Have you tried that? You can even try fortifying bond to get even more might on the pet. What about muerellow? Everyone like applying weakness to a boss. Muddy terrain, spike trap, and frost trap turn out to be great choices for skipping trash and/or chilling a boss. Do you make use of these? How much do you let your pet tank the boss as opposed to calling it back? Heck, I’ve been playing since beta weekend and I still wouldn’t consider myself someone who’s mastered all the details of ranger. At one point I thought I had it all figured out. But then I realized there was more options, more things to study, and more things to test.
Pets are literally 50% of our damage why whould I call back 50% of my damage on a boss? Does that make sense to you? And I am well aware of weakness I use black bear tons on higher level fractals…pets straight up die to much and so do spirits theres no sugar coating it and this whole “pet management” of calling your pets back and swapping I am fully aware of. It is a stupid system that needs change as it feels like an alpha stage pet mechanic.
Also on devourers and their combo fields try using your devourer in coe, end boss of most fractals, and other dungeons that dish out hardcore aoe. Yes they can survive but only if the boss is standing still the entire match….

Devs will never allow rangers to play without their pet in gw2 they said this numerous times.
Well like I said I played ranger since launch (no other lvl 80s except ranger)…. not to sound arrogant but I literally know the ranger inside and out so I am well aware of pet management and what not. In my post I was more focused on sprits because they are an issue that are being left untreated.
….
Some good news, here is a quote from Jonathan sharp from the warrior forums:
“And yes, Ranger spirits are in the same boat as Warrior banners. They were VERY powerful before ship, but after changes, they are on the lower end of the power curve right now. So they’ll be slowly adjusted over time to bring them back up as well.”
(edited by BlackhawkSOM.6401)
I have been reading a lot of threads about people being successful with their builds in wvw, spvp, open world pve, ect. Playing only a ranger since launch, I agree, rangers are really top tier when it comes to those areas imo.
The only area we are lacking in is dungeons. I am not just referencing to pets but also spirits and team contribution. As we all know, pets have a problem in dungeons especially in higher fractal levels even with the recent AR buff. With smart swapping… most rangers will agree pets die far to often with the exception of a few ranged pets and even they die a lot too with all the aoe going on.
Less ranting on pets, an issue that is just as important are spirits…..Spirits are our potentially one of the best aspects of the ranger in terms of team contribution through buffs. I feel spirits should be looked at just as much as our pets when it comes to survivability in dungeons.
With final bosses that usually deal massive aoe, spirits maybe last for one duration of their buff. They don’t seem like a viable choice, especially when the second you summon them they instantly die from aoe.
With the exception of healing spring our team support is really lacking….

If your going for defense go with greatsword as #4 has a block and auto attack on #1 which evades attacks every 3rd hit. Also if things get rough go #3 swoop is the best leap in the game.
Also I always tell new rangers dont be fooled by the longbow. The dps is outdone by the shortbow and with shortbow you get another evade plus a stun. Only thing worthwhile on longbow, for me anyway, is the barrage and vulnerabiliy which I only use for wvw.
Ranger can be one of the most defensive classes as it has ….evades, blocks, condi removal, protections, regen, a few escapes ect ect.
I wouldn’t use longbow…….as for sword or greatsword it depends…are you running dungeons, spvp, wvw?
Spvp sword is a must have especially once you mastered the techniques
WvWvW greatsword is a definite yes because of the mobility and utility
In dungeons it depends on which type ….although sword does more dmg then greatsword I tend to use greatsword on harder dungeons like coe for the defense.
As for warhorn or dagger…again it depends on the situation/personal preference. I like the warhorn on zerker builds in pve as the #4 skill can deal around 4-5k dmg with sigil of air over time while your dealing massive dps from sword and a pet like jaguar.
Dagger should be used for spvp. Can be used for wvw as the cripple is nice but its really up to you. Dagger is better then warhorn when it comes to strictly pvp.
tip: sword, shortbow, and greatsword are our greatest weapons in that order. Even though I did say greatsword is a must for wvw thats mainly if you like to roam a lot and to get to your targets faster …sword can still be a dominant weapon as you have war horn for speed buff plus all the cripples so your pet can stay on target.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Swoop
Will swoop ever be increased to match the correct tooltip dmg (which is around a 1.4% increase of what it actually does)?
Can a dev please answer this.
Warriors are actually in a worst spot then rangers now, maybe in pve dungeons there top tier but thats it
STOP SAYING THE SWORD IS BAD, its the best weapon we got, please don’t use it if it feels uncomfortable to you just because you didn’t take the time to practice with it.
If you want to complain about something for rangers: Auto attack on greatsword lacks in damage, auto attack on longbow SUCKS in game, spirits die to easily, ECT ECT
If you actually take the TIME to practice with the sword and see its dmg out put and its uses you WOULD NEVER COMPLAIN.
BTW if any of you want to 1v1 in spvp for me to show you feel free to msg me in game. ONE OF THE BEST WEAPONS WE GOT.
Like many, I really enjoy the soundtrack of GW2 and would like to listen to all the music this game offers but sadly I don’t go to each area of the game which offers those specific soundtracks.
Would be nice if this game had an ingame playlist of all the music to play at your leisure.
Also even the wintersday soundtracks could be another example of some nice music that you can’t possibly listen to ever ingame.
What you can do is infuse one of the rings so you can use both. In the mean time you can just save up for another ring. GL
This really needs to have an increased duration. Two seconds being cut by 50% = one second. So they really need to increase its duration to AT LEAST 3 seconds to compensate.
The nerf to quickness has made the 2 seconds of this trait barley noticeable and ineffective. Why hasn’t the duration been increased like other quickness skills like quickening zephyr?
More people need to do this survey. Hopefully it can open some eyes on the devs…
All I was saying is if you do most of the event it should reward you properly.
If you think the system is so perfect then why is most of the open world 50% more emptier than it was on release? Because now that end game has hit dynamic events except in orr are not worth doing BECAUSE nobody is there.
But for a player like me who has a long term goal of getting a legendary isn’t getting rewarded for the effort fair?
And no zergs are no fun to me but dynamic events by yourself can get a little boring too.
The same rewards as if you did it with 100 people. Doesn’t really seem fair does it?
My story goes like this. I went to south sun cove for the first time in 3 months and did a dynamic event by myself because nobody else was there.
It was actually pretty fun honestly, but the amount of time I spent on it and the difficulty….all I was rewarded with was the same rewards I could have gotten on an event in orr which takes 1/3 the effort/time.
I dunno, maybe Im to caught up on being “rewarded” for my time..but then again south sun cove and a lot of other areas in the open world are basically empty so maybe I’m not..
Edit: For long term goalers like me who strive for a legendary why is rewards so limited? Also I’d like to point out there’s a number of events that can take a quite a while without sufficient players and they are hard to do when a lot of areas are empty.
Thoughts?

You know what I haven’t seen? Female charrs…
Bird are not as squishy as felines please check the stats before making assumptions.
I’m not basing it off of stats. I base it on actual gameplay. For some reason my birds die more often than my felines.
Er thats an opinion birds for me at least survive a lot in both pve and pvp. Spvp especially because of the small target. Plus they have way more vitality and toughness from felines.
Bird are not as squishy as felines please check the stats before making assumptions.
I could see this working if the finishers had 1min cool downs
If your going to buff a warriors mechanic that is very similar to the ranger……. why neglect the ranger?
Devs if your so focused on build diversity why look over spirits for rangers when buffing banners for warriors? Spirits have been complained about constantly on the ranger forums for many months. They die just as easily as pets do in aoe and are simply not viable in most situations.
I posted this thread here and not the rangers forum because it deals with build diversity.
A buff to warriors banner is cool and all but the Rangers spirits are also in need of a buff.
So whats the deal?
I 100% agree with OP living story is just far to vague and stupidly confusing to be worth any time spent on it. I ended up completing the latest living story and didn’t feel accomplished at all.
I was like…hmm ok well thats done -.-
I agree 100% with this
Sigil of smoldering for your torch and use sigil of energy for everything else.
Because you are not using shortbow that is one less evade you have so sigil of energy can be very usefull for you. Lay traps dodge dodge dodge repeat.
Oh btw dont worry about sigils for underwater weapons too much, a noob ranger thats underwater can own 2 rank 50 eles with no problem. To bad we are not as strong as on land lol.
Also your pets…..use wolf and drakehound please…trust me on that

I agree 100% with orignal post. A lot of my freinds wont even consider playing gw2 because lack of accomplishments.
Love how people will defend this kitten class for eternity. Anet could poop into their mouth and they’d say it’s vanilla ice cream.
“Hey, rangers make no ranged damage…” – LOL BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO
“Hey, rangers make no melee damage either…” – hahaha, silly you, rangers are supposed to be ranged, not melee! This made me lol; it’s right on the mark though.
I personally like the GS as it is and it goes well with my sword/dagger. It could be tweaked a bit here and there though, and I personally would love to see it’s block on a slightly shorter cool down (I wish they would go with some sort of active blocking system that just drains a bit of stamina and has no cool down instead or something to that effect…)
Then again I won’t argue against any buffs for the ranger to make up for my crappy pet (I die a bit inside everytime my wolves refuse to use their f2’s just because I am moving around and they decide to follow me instead of using the ability… or have them just completely ignore it and just start autoattacking…).
Personally, I would love to switch over to the warrior greatword, just one problem though; the warriror skills just look horrible and don’t have a good feel to them. They feel just spammy and gimmicky.
If only I could place the ranger GS skills on a warrior and have the warrior damage… then I wouldn’t have to hear “My pet needs help!” every two seconds in a champion fight (and I wouldn’t have to rage when they decide to ignore the fact that I want to use f2…)
Well one point of my argument that I forgot to mention is because our pets die so frequently and they are literally 50% of our dmg why not buff greatsword and shortbow as they just don’t compare to the damage of other classes.
I can make a complete other discussing about shortbow because the damage is just horrible imo but I still love it though for the evasivness and plus its better then the longbow in dmg.(Longbow just need to get thrown out this game for rangers honestly)
In dungeon , pve and WvWvW pets dies 90% of the time in a matter of seconds. In spvp where thing are less hectic they do survive if your not in a mid point or zerged on.
Pets in this game for ranger are so broken its not even funny. I wish I could turn them off everyday as I feel they are holding me back.
I have always considered the GS to be more of an utility then a DPS weapon . The Sword would be the dpser ye?
What if the tweaking of the GS goes more into expanding its already solid utility . For example :
- the 2nd attack in the autoattack chain applies 3 vulnerability stacks for 1.5 second
- Swooping hawk applies 2 seconds of cripple or perhaps even chill
- block-throw attack knockdowns the oponent instead of crippling it .
Why i think it would be ok ?? The graitsword would remain a lowish DPS weapon more focused on utility and defense thus differentiating from the other weapons . Its abilities would serve really well for teamwork with either your party or your Pet . And lastly , the ability 4 is on a fairly long cooldown .
Thoughts?
Thats interesting but being a “utility” goes only so far. I honestly consider the sword as being what you refer as the “utility” weapon. Constant cripple and evades while played right can lead to good strategy.
To the above poster talking about “why does my sword do dmg then my bows”? Well ask the devs that because its stupid right? I mean I understand how a sword can do moere damage then a bow but the damage is just not comparable to the two. The bow should be slightly under the swords dps imo.
As a RANGER why don’t they actually give us the best dps for bows instead of the theives? It really doesn’t make much sense now does it?
The problem with the devs is that they mostly balance classes with regards to spvp. While rangers are good in spvp (well one or two specific builds are) the other 70% of the game we are lacking terribly. Being up to FOTM 34 literally 5 minutes ago I was kicked because of being a ranger. I mean how many more complaints does anet want? I’m already saving up some gold to max my warrior and ele to 80 by crafting because im sick of it.
Playing ranger since day one..day one and not any other class. Literally throughout these 6 months while playing the ranger I have barley seen any improvement. The only thing keeping me on it is the time I put into him and me finnaly being above average in pve and wvw after 6 months of “mastering” the class. Where on my ele im already above average and hes only lvl 60!

On topic, I feel as if devs buffed the greatsword on par to the damage of the spear. That would make me very happy.
I could get behind that. It’d put Ranger greatsword damage only slightly behind Guardian greatsword damage to account for the built in evade on auto attack (which is a godsend for an otherwise lackluster weapon).
Although the evade is great i really cannot find an optimal use for this weapon. I mean sword and shortbow seem like a must to me with offhand being anything other then axe. Doing an underwater fractal today and seeing the spear dmg I just wish the greatsword could mimic it.
Now greatsword vs sword is really signifcant too. Ofcourse the sword does lower damage but if you count in speed and mobility it can out do a greatsword pretty quickly.
What do you guys think? Am I the only who thinks great-sword is pretty weak atm
Ranger greatsword is terribly weak. Even with the “buffs” to Maul and Swoop, the damage output is poor at best. Hit for hit, single hand sword hits harder with a significantly higher attack rate. If it weren’t for the rooting on sword mainhand, I’d never have even thought about using anything else.
The “rooting” is not that bad honestly once you get the hang of it. I absolutely hated the sword when I first used it and forced myself to try it a second time. Now it is my absolute favorite weapon hands down.
On topic, I feel as if devs buffed the greatsword on par to the damage of the spear. That would make me very happy.
But there are 2 leaps… Which means even though the damage is higher the DPS is not
If ever used sword then you’d know when you use skill #2 it does the immediate 578 dmg dodging BACK and then the combo does an ADDITIONAL 870 leaping FORWARD with 97% crit dmg like me I get around 3.3k with sword with #2 second combo by itself so i get around 4.5k total if both crit.
They have pretty much the same DPS if you consider GS’ skill 2.
I’m pretty sure the sword’s skill 2 and 3 have less dps than the skill 1. (not tested)
While GS with skill 1 and 2 has about the same DPS as sword’s 1.
The swords skill 2 has twice the damage as skill #1 so you are false.
Skill #1 for sword = 478 for me #2= 578 and 873
Ok so I made this topic before but was rushing when I wrote it so deleted it.
My argument is the great swords #1 ability (in terms of damage) as apposed to other weapons.
So I did some tests with great sword vs spear because they are essentially are the same weapons (both have evades in attack, gap closer, block, ect) and also against the sword as well.
The result was greatsword does signifcantly lower damage then the spear.
Greatsword does 995-1100 damage and spear does 905-1000 damage for both being exotic lvl 80s
Now then, on my toon the first greatsword auto attack = 429 whilst then spear = 624
So on the highest damage greatsword does 1529 and spear does 1624. and if you include crit damge 100 more damage is a considerable amount.
Now greatsword vs sword is really signifcant too. Ofcourse the sword does lower damage but if you count in speed and mobility it can out do a greatsword pretty quickly.
What do you guys think? Am I the only who thinks great-sword is pretty weak atm?

This topic has been made 100 times but whatever.
1)There is no fail condition. Lets say no one showed up to do Jormag. You could literally let him sit there for 1 week/month/year/decade/century and he would still be there yelling and screaming and not doing anything…
2) They do not hit hard enough. Half the time at these events the boss barely even scratches my HP bar. Give them AoE that if people do not move out the way they take massive damage.
Taking 15 sec to do a dodge roll because of the massive lag isn’t any fun either ..I mean at least for me it’s not.
Sitting around auto attacking these world events like Jormag in a massive lag fest caused by guesting and reward upgrades is not really that challenging or fun. I mean don’t get me wrong I love getting rares and what not, but its really becoming a mind numbing farm fest.
Honestly I wish these events could be instanced or guesting be removed from world events…I mean I don’t really know a lot of people who genuinely guest to play with friends anyhow(I could be wrong about the rest of you though).
Being able to 5 man jormag or do a guild mission for it sounds way fun then a 200 man lagfest right?
Heck I’d like to solo that thing I’f I could.
I know gw2 revolves around co-op. But my definition of fun is not standing around 100 players I don’t know lag killing a dragon. Fotm is an exception as I find it rewarding and enjoyable because of the difficulty and sense of teamwork.
My point is what do you guys do solo able for end game in terms of actually playing the game on your own. As a casual player I can’t really think of too many besides maybe spvp or crafting.
I feel like most of the events in the game that are high leveled are designed for group work and if you go to a part of the world like malchors leap theres… no… people. I know I could go to orr but isn’t this game designed so you can go any where and just ..play?
Before I go into topic. There was this suggestion I’d like to note. someone (I forgot who) suggested tournaments that are used right now should replace the hot join feature …..as hot joins will eventually be replaced with custom arenas.
Anyways this isn’t a QQ thread just my insight…Tournaments as they stand in spvp for me at least aren’t really tournaments. You can play them all day long and are basically seen to me as a “regular mode”.
No real incentive to play spvp “tournaments” when you play the same tournament over and over with such little rewards other then maybe the competitiveness or leveling your rank. Honestly…. its getting pretty dull.
The point I’m trying to make is what if paid tournaments return(wait..bare with me).
Paid tournaments could work like this:
Instead of playing a paid tournament whenever I felt like it…..why not have paid tournaments at allocated times. Say every Friday/Saturday? Teams could be able to queue up during the week and pay their way in with glory. This could allow spvp players something to look forward to(if the paid tournaments offered better rewards).
This system could implement your rating/ranking system or whatever it is to its fullest potential. Casual players could que themselves with people of similar rankings and fight teams with similar rankings.
Before I tell you how this could be successful let me tell you why paid tournaments failed.
The top 3 reasons why paid tournaments failed:
1. Casual players didn’t want to waste their hard earned tickets to get “out ranked” in these tournaments.
2. The fear of paid tournaments “belong to only serious competitors”
3. Tickets themselves
With this new found ranking system (which I see a lot of potential in) why not use it in a way that will allow spvp players to have something to look forward to then just playing the same old free “tournaments” over and over. That’s just boring (at least for me anyway)
These once a week tournaments could offer incentives to play them like laurels…gems(not a lot to mess up economy)…….or maybe unique skins? And because their once a week this can maybe get some players excited and start practicing during the weekday.
The reason I find this could be successful is because I myself witnessed older games that used this method with maybe only 2k players active and it was really fun.
(edited by BlackhawkSOM.6401)
If this is really true. If this is… If….
Nooooo. This cannot be true.
Jon Peters has said it himself:
- Shouts and signets, are “subpar” and “lackluster”, see: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Ranger-update
- The ranger suffers from “trait lines with not enough viable choices and skills that are often too specialized to really compliment the weapon builds”: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/General-Patch-Discussion-merged/page/3
Developer Jon Peter’s words, not mine. They’re glaring in-your-face problems.
Any nerf to this class without the direly needed fixes to the aforementioned problems (fixes that were promised 5 months ago aaaargh!), will create nothing less than outrage.
I remember when Jon said all those things months ago and was really hopeful and nothing change significantly. We will see with this next patch because as the way things are now im tired of feeling gimped and unwanted in this game in pve and wvw.
I am going to quit ranger….sorry there is to many fixes needed for the ranger as a class. I heard from the devs dd ele and trap ranger will be nerfed this patch and this is sad considering how awful we do outside of spvp.
Ranger is a class that relies on its pets a lot(a lot of skills buff your pet) but when your pet is dead in say wvw the ranger as a class becomes handicapped honestly. PLUS there are so many fixes needed:
-Lick wounds still isn’t fixed…
Poooor dmg with greatsword (How does sword out dmg a greatsword? Makes no sense.)
-AI of pet really needs work…. just very stupid. AI mesmer clones are smarter.
-Longbow is just not that good (compare our longbow to warr and you will cry)(tests have been done…shortbow is better. Only thing I like is vulnerabilty honestly. Horn#1 skill> rabid fire imo.
- spirits are still weak even when traited
Most important (to me at least).
Besides wilderness survival and skirmishing our trait lines are just horrible(apart from putting 5 BM). Top reason is signets, spirits, and stupid pet traits in marksman, bm, and Nature magic(although some traits in nature magic are pretty good). You expect me to put 30 in marksman just to use signets that other classes can use straight up? No thanks ill put that 30 in wilderness survival.
I love my ranger (spvp rank 36 from my ranger) and know literally all the ranger builds and tried them inside and out. Ranger is a kitten good class that is underrated and with a few fixes could be top tier. But When devs start saying their going to nerf a very viable build i won’t mind as long as they fix the other stuff that has been in need of fixing for months.
I play WvWvW and PVE too and with the build im using that I spent months on I feel equally balance and at cases top tier to a lot of people. But this is not the case to say a lvl 1 warr who played for the first time today. He/she will be on a equal playing field day one.
