Just realized: If you’re not careful and use your f5 shatter when most of your skills are on cooldown, you’ll actually be lengthening those cooldowns.
the above post could be complete and utter nonsense.
I just had a thought. The core engi will be getting a new F5 toolbelt skill for their elite, if I remember correctly. So it is not inconcievable that the core mesmer will get an F5 skill also.
I may have been concerned for no reason. I hope we get to try some of this stuff in the next beta.
i wonder if that was the core engi now, though.
That might have been an elite engi
Sorry I don’t have a quote, but a dev did say the new F5 skill was for core engineers.

Or the attributes that have very little if any gear options like Condition Duration and Boon Duration?
I think it was said that the duration of conditions and boons will be changed somewhat in order to compensate but don’t quote me on that.
Traits that increase the duration on specific conditions are also having their effect increased.

News so it seems I was right
I’m really sorry, but nothing in that video suggests that unlocking specialisations will be a gradual process like you are saying, or that there are any points involved at all. Are you perhaps confusing it with the mastery points mentioned before? If so: the mastery system and specialisations are two separate systems, as far as any of us know, there are no connections between them.
I appreciate the fact that you’re trying to clear things up here, but I’m afraid you have become confused yourself.

As far as I know no information on this has been released, so only arenanet knows, and arenanet is not very likely to tell us until perhaps they reveal more about the scavenger hunt to craft the new precursors. If you ask me, it’s likely they will require those gifts, since the random nature of getting precursors seemed to be the only thing they were really displeased about.

Collision Detection? Did I miss something? You speak as if something interesting has been announced but I haven’t heard anything about collision detection.

The new map will not be added on top of the already existing maps, it is a borderlands map and will be put in a rotation with the already existing borderland map.
Edit: Or like psizone the ninja already said above me.

Interview: 1 specialization per profession
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Blazing Rathalos.1904
Ugh, that’s not a specialization, that’s just a continuation of the class. Without at least two per class, there’s no choice and nothing “special” about it. All Rangers are Druids, woopy.
Actually, no. One of the interviews strongly suggested, that there would be reasons why someone might want to “disable” a specialization and go back to playing pure class (and that you will be able to switch in and out of specs). They also seemed to imply that, while specializations add new things on top of base class, they also take things away (as well as possibly change the whole playing style). They are not supposed to be stronger than their base classes, just different, thus presenting more options. And of course they have already said there will be more specializations in the future. Just not in HoT.
I would like to see that specific interview. I haven’t heard anything to that effect yet, and that would go a long way to alleviating mine, and presumably others frustration on this matter.
Not sure sure if it’s the one he was talking about, but this on appears to say just that.

Most of these sound pretty likely, but you have to remember that there are going to be more specialisations in the future, so eventually some of the seemingly less likely weapons will be added as well, which means there is no particular reason one of the less likely weapons couldn’t be added in this expansion.
Mesmers should be getting the same amount of weapons skills as the other classes.
This is not necessarily true, a very recent interview states that specialisations differ in how much they change what. It is very possible that the mesmer will only get the shield as a weapon, and in returns has more substantial changes to its profession mechanic or more utility skills and traits.
This is the interview in case you were wondering

This may be interesting to read guys!
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Actually, there IS some valuable information in there, it confirms that specialisations can alter the main profession mechanic, and that some abilities of the main profession can be removed as well. Both of these are things we weren’t entirely clear on yet. Also, some possibly new information is that the specialisations differ in what and how much they actually change.
Rampant speculation: perhaps specialisations that unlock off-hand weapons that only give two new skills will compensate by having more changes in other areas.

One possibility is that these mursaat aren’t even physically on Tyria. There could still be a lot of mursaat hiding out in the mists, but perhaps these energy beings we see here are not the mursaat themselves at all. They could be conduits made for them to interact with the material plain of Tyria, without immediately having to go there themselves. After what happened last time maybe they figured this was a safer bet. It would make sense then to have “drones” that are similar in shape and capability to their own bodies, but they don’t have to be exact visual copies.

Don’t we also know eles have sword?
Where was this confirmed? This is the first I’ve seen or heard of it.
Confirmed maybe not. But everyone’s been talking about it in numerous threads on this topic. I think from this.
http://youtu.be/IOUk2y0K2m8?t=1m57s
Watching it again now though I wonder. The attack does looks elemental – fire on sword and the player turning to mist…. but maybe this is the new revenant class showing their misty ways.
The part you linked was rytlock, who is now a revenant, the sword is on fire because it’s sohothin. I do remember people saying they believe they saw an elementalist with a sword in there somewhere, but I haven’t seen it myself.
the above post could be complete and utter nonsense.
Maybe they’ll give us an Arcane Archer, next question would then be: Long- or short-bow? I am also really curious whether the unique profession mechanics they were talking about were replacement for, say the attunement system for the elementalist, a modification of it, or something else entirely.

Wow that’s too bad, the conversation cinematics were entertaining and at least helped to make me feel like the story was about me; (at least until the Treherne Timeshare) whereas the Living Story is about everyone else.
And I liked the personalities of our mentors and other NPCs displayed during them. Now it’s going to be a skeleton story and new players won’t give a crap about the NPCs that come and go in their personal story.
Edit: Or am I a moron? Are the cutscenes being removed from the personal story? Or just not used in the living one? If they’re just not being used going forward I redact a portion of my disappointment.
You are not in fact a moron, but indeed, nobody is talking about removing anything, they’re just not using them going forward. Even though I would personally prefer it if they eventually change these into a different kind of cutscene, they wouldn’t even have to change the voise recordings. But I do of course realise the tremendous amount of work this would take. Maybe they could do this someday in the future, at the point that it really starts holding back the rest of the game.
the above post could be complete and utter nonsense.
We are at the beginning stages of overhauling our cinematic tools. It’s still very early on, so you wont see anything big for quite some time…In the meantime, you should see a gradual improvement in the quality of cut-scenes as the cinematic and writing team strengthen our collaboration efforts.
I should add that custom animations take up a substantial amount of dev resources that aren’t dedicated to cinematics.
The GW1 cinematics team was created for machinama and traditional 3D animation…whereas the GW2 team was built around animating concept art (motion graphics work)
The cinematics that you see in the personal story where 2 characters talk to each other on a stage-like environment have been…retired.
Cinematics/cut-scenes are an important part of our game. We are constantly striving to make them better and push the limits of our current tools in the process.
is this change just for newly developed content, or do you plan to update the old personal story cinematics as well ?
what about dungeon cinematics ?I don’t think it would be a wise investment to go back and redo some of the old cinematics. There will be plenty of new story content needing cinematic moments.
If there is time, I’d love to have the option to take a polish pass on old stuff.
On thing to note there however: even though it is the “old” content, it’s still the same thing pretty much every single new player will encounter, or whenever a player creates a new character of course. My point being: no matter how much better the new content gets, it won’t automatically improve the experience for new players. In fact later on, especially if you ever expand the personal story (with these new improvements), the old portion might start sticking out like a sore thumb more and more.

Do we even know if its supposed to be some kind of code? It could just be decorative (or ads).
Unless no developer has seen this thread (they seem to read most of them) I’m pretty sure this is a real code. They aren’t sadistic enough to let you guys work on this if it really is nothing.

Has anyone considered the possibility that Scarlet is suffering from “Baelfire Syndrome”? I mean she apparently wants to live independently from influences, which being a god would come quite close to achieving, and she IS trying to acces the mists, isn’t she?

On Fissure of Woe, he’s gone now.
the above post could be complete and utter nonsense.
What they really need is failsafes. Like have code in place so that if an NPC is meant to take X amount of time to reach a destination, and if for ANY reason he doesn’t reach that destination in, say, X+10% or so, then they should just teleport him automatically to the target location.
I completely agree, a default pass if there’s a bug is not as bad as being stuck forever if there’s a bug.

Something the ‘voice’ said immediately stood out to me. He says that she may have to kill “every last one of us.” Now this is peculiar because it’s a very exclusionary statement.
We know that all of the races (save perhaps Largos) we have encountered have so far been affected by Scarlet’s shenanigans. This would put the speaker solidly outside the realm of races we have encountered or are familiar with.
Additionally he says that Scarlet MIGHT have to kill all of us. He says something alone the lines of “even if she has to kill…” This sounds very conditional to me. It lets on that Scarlet’s goal may not be destruction of the world (or something along those lines) or killing for the sake of killing.
The third observation is really a combination of those last two points (and assumes that both are true). If we assume the voice is a 3rd party we have not yet encountered and that Scarlet is not necessarily seeking to destroy the main races (but is willing to if needed), it might be reasonable to think that this voice may be either the target of her actions or feels passively threatened by it.
He speaks to us about Scarlet being a threat, yet makes it clear he is not ‘one of us’. Why is he warning us? Is he neutral or an enemy?
Folks have been saying it could be a dragon. I’m not sure (since they are all supposed to be forces of nature without much cognitive ability…iirc). Anyways… things to consider.
Or it could just be an achievement grind fest with literally nothing I just talked about….annnnd I just let myself down with the LW yet again
He doesn’t say “every last one of us”. He says “every last one of you”, which basically kills your theory. Sorry
I would put money down that it’s an Elder Dragon or Dragon Champion that is the narrator. Or at the least, like some have said, it’s just a voice over and means little to the plot. Since they haven’t done that at all yet, I don’t think that’s the case though.
Elder Dragon has my vote and this new Three Headed Wurm is one of it’s Champions.
Pretty sure that’s what he meant, he just translated it to “our” perspective to make it clearer. Unfortunately, that seems to have had a reverse effect Anyway, he goes on to say it seems quite an exclusionary statement, which does coincide with what the voiceover actually said.

did he take over Zhaitan’s position as the head of the Risen? and get a power upgrade?
I lean toward this as a strong possibility until we get confirmation.
Do Elder Dragons get replaced like that?
Unfortunately, there is no earlier precedent of Elder Dragons being killed. So basically we have no idea.

Now, you link us a thread that says there never was a canthan district. Though it does not say the new construction will not BE a new canthan district. So the question we now ask ourselves is: Did you link it so we don’t get any false hope, or as a tease? Think on that everyone.

Pretty sure they said somewhere that we acctually have to place our votes ON the zephyr sanctum. So I think it’s safe to say it won’t be leaving. Not quite sure about the achievements though, although I guess there is no immediate reason for them to be removed.

Also, we are pretty much 100% sure thaumanove WILL NOT be underwater, but abaddon could be. Abbaddons temple is underwater in orr aswell, but idk.. Im not much into lore.
Abaddon was defeated at the Mouth of Torment, which is not underwater. So it seems highly unlikely that his Fractal would be underwater. Abaddon’s temple is in an area that has partially been raised from the depths after having been sunk beneath the waves. The temple itself of course was originally build above water. Otherwise, how would you visit the temple? Swim there every time, and then try to light some candles?
Abaddon’s defeat also turned the Crystal Sea into the Crystal Desert. So we’d probably be fighting him in another dimension. If we’re fighting him at all.
Actually, it WAS underwater/near water. The entire crystal sea just dried up when Abaddon was struck down.

Cantha was a horrible representation of the Asian culture, more specifically, the Ancient Chinese culture.
I’m not Chinese and I’m offended by it. Ancient Chinese culture is not just about over-crowding, oppressions, gangs, and other bad stuff that the Canthan expansion portrait, which 1/3 of the expansion is centered around these negative stuff. And it took a group of foreigners to liberate the country — oh my.
Yeah Anet’s creative team really did harm with that expansion and you cannot rationalize it. You can see it for yourself.
The rule of a Chinese Dynasty would not be for so long if the culture is all about the negatives like that from the Canthan expansion.
It’s a combat oriented game, most of it is going to be negatives, something for you to fight. You want to fight against happiness and prosperity?
Anyway, most of Tyria was a hellhole as well. Do you recall many positive things about post-searing Ascalon? I mostly remembered the ageing insane king that refused to admit defeat and retreat. And then you get to Kryta, which is ruled by an oppresive religious cult that hides everything from its people.
Sure, that all sounds very positive.
