well my only problem is that the developers were quite quick to nerf real players playing the game but not doing enough about the botters. Lets face it, nerfing the drop rates will not hurt the botters because they will just keep chugging on but real players will get hurt as they do not have the bot ability to ..well keep botting

there would not no incentive for a DF type dungeon. I mean what are you gonna do, run it 60 times in Explorer mode for a different colour set of armor ?

No real surprise here that folk are fairweather players and jumping ship to the winning servers.

no one likes losing. Especially when you have no chance to win and then Anet rubs salt into the wounds by charging you for repairs followed by offering to sell you gold for RL cash..

Fun is a nebulous and undefinable concept imho. ANet trying to force the players to find fun in the game without actually rewarding them is kinda counter productive? Reminds me of Dolph Lundgren shouting Are we having fun yet while throwing grenades at JCvD. Sure someone is having fun, but the other is not..

i think the problem comes down to the fact that many feel that fun is a zero sum equation, if you are having fun, someone else is not etc

oh and Skinner Boxes exist in RL btw, you are living in one.

I’m not mad at the game or anything, but I’m getting the feeling of ‘meh’ and ‘why put effort into it?’. It doesn’t come from boredom, it comes from too many restrictions on what I want to do in game.

Levelord says it for me. The game is pretty but shallow and the problem is i am just of the players who needs to be progression. And challenged while progressing, i need the carrot to feel like i am getting somewhere , better gear, more stats, bigger shinies etc . The game does not provide it. I do not see how running COF 60 times to get a set of armor which looks different but has the same stats as the rest is any meaningful gameplay to me.

the dynamic events are ok but it is just a zerg fest for most part, i am not a hero in them, just part of the zerg.

the wvwvw feels the same, it is all about the zerg. You neither feel like your accomplished anything but holding the orbs. PvP is fun but you can get your pvp kicks cheaper and with less investment than here. The main problem with WvWvW is that i do not feel any connection nor ownership of the generic battlegrounds. One Place is just a carbon copy of another place, my teamsmates are just generic copies of my opponents but a slightly different shade. When i got ot WvWvW the first thing i ask is not who am i fighting but what colour today ? In DAoC you fought in your own zones and they were while not your own, there was an ownership of your relics and the ground, Emain Macha was different to the Midgard etc. Same for WHO , while that game was a terrible disappointment your team was different from the opposing team , the ground you fought on and the castles your fought in was different. It does not feel generic carbon copies/

all in all i am disappointed with Gw2. I was one of many hoping for a better mmorpg experience but it is a grind and a unrewarding one at that at 80.

oh regarding the Skinner box, alot of folk have been quoting it without really giving it enough thought. Many better read and better educated behavioural scientists have already discounted the Skinner box idea to be applied to gaming. A better reasoning is that humans are by nature living in a Skinner Box. Yes you all criticising all the WoW players while living the dream is quite the irony. Look around you, you are CONDITIONED to act in a certain way by society, by your upbringing, your friends, you work, your social circles , the media, the games you play, the work you do, the tv you watch etc. Human conditioning exists within you,as you are constantly trying to feel better, stronger, richer, less hungry etc. No, the hilarity of all those quoting the Skinner box without realizing they live in one shows you how blissful ignorance is.

so whose fault is it is it the player for playing the game and getting to 80 or is it that Anet allowed the player to level too quickly and now he is at 80 does not feel that he is going anywhere?

Bloody.8769

It’s not important at all, unless you set out to design a Skinner Box instead of a game. Believe it or not, game design has always allowed for models of play that do not involve the vaunted “progression”.

i am not sure how to say this to you but , YOU as a human being , is living in a skinner box in RL. Look around you, take a good look around you. Notice that there is always an urge to upgrade? to be better, stronger, faster, have more shinies, bigger shinies, more comfort , less hungry etc etc ? You DO realize that there is a built in instinct which has led humanity to where it is right now. The Skinner Box whech is used to condition and train animals , is built around us humans. We are compelled to buy things, compelled to behave in a certain manner etc

and btw there is plenty of research to suggest that the Skinner principle does not always apply to gaming . Also if we did not have the built in conditioning, the Skinner has less affect on us .

the game is pretty but it is very shallow. I know alot of folk dislike the holy trinity but without it is what we have now, it a now zerg or dodge harder. Which does not really make for a lot of tactical or strategic value. For the record i have completed all the story dungeons and explorer modes and i only got stuck once. When the boss bugged out , in no way was i ever skill challenged and i was never with a super skilled organized group of mates.

nope i ran alot of PUGs and still was never really challenged ( ok the middle boss for the Arun dungeon required some know how ) .

my issue is that the casual players do not really realize how important it is to feel progression. I can already see plenty here jumping down my throat shouting GTFO BACK TO WOW , but really do you login to any of your single player games just to look around? because that will happen to GW2 soon.

Bloody.8769

My thoughts on this mirror several of my guildmates who already begun to drift away from the game, Torchlight 2 and Borderlands 2 as well as XCOM is coming soon and so their interest has already faded.

The problem is at 80, there is nothing much to do. Now before anyone jumps onto me and suggests it is my fault i got to 80 , think how silly that is, i have not even gotten 45% map completion and yet i was at 80 when i half finished Orr let alone the remaining Melchor’s zone. So i also done half a dozen jump puzzles including the WvWvW ones , have 400 crafting and have 400 odd honor badges. So in no way did i power level my through the game solely by leveling.

The devs have stated that apparently i should not have leveled so quick and that the whole gameplay starts at 1. Well sorry but by the time he read his statement i already went out got a few levels just by like.. playing the game…

i do not think this will be enough for the majority of the mmorpg gamer base. There is no end game content. You do not get any better, the skills you mastered at level 1-5 are the same as you will be hitting at 80. The gear might be different but once you got it, is is all cosmetic but the timesink required for that cosmetic change is incredibly. Quite a few have already mocked the Wow players for their endless stat grind. On the other hand apparently running COF 60 times for a different look is perfectly ok …

in WvWvW the fair weather players have begun their moves, realizing there is no way to get better individually they en masse jump ship to the winning server and either quit from the queues or quit from being outzerged.

i predict over the next month or so GW2 will begin its slow but inevitable loss of playerbase. The decline will bring out the worst in the rabid fan bois who will pretend it is the players fault for not being able to play it the way THEY play it but modifying player behaviour is the role of the developer. If the developer wants the player base to be robust and large so continued support is ongoing then they must modify the player base behaviour .

You are bad in reading Muthax, that 12 million, was not the Chinese players ,Blizzard never included them in their official numbers as they pid their subscription model differently so there goes your argument ( and are you racist, what do you ahve against the Asian players playing it the way they want to?? ) . this is my last response as clearly you are one of those fanbois who resorts to ad hominem attacks to defend your latest love.

and btw Tusuri, you are the one who played the numbers card by suggesting your have the Legion to support the game with your playstyle… don’t use the card if you are gonna tuck tail and call it childish when it goes against you.

i actually do not consider my 80 as being powerleveled. It just came so quickly. I played EQ mind you and so anything is considered fast by comparison, certainly this 80 was done easily and without any drama . I admit, i did do the Orr rotation and got 1 level from it but the rest of the time i just wondering and doing hearts and i was 78 by the time i hit Orr .

i am not sure how folk can consider getting to 2 mill karma less a grind than what WoW gave you… And do not even suggest for 1 moment that the 2 million karma will come from non repetitive tasks done over and over again ( 60 odd runs / dungeon explorer mode for 1 set of armor? ) . Cmon, you are lying to yourself if that is not a grind.

sigh really, you guys want to argue numbers? ok GW1 , total copies sold according to ANet. 6 odd million. Is that your Legion, or maybe you want to go with say LOTR online ?

WoW. Highest Sub total 12 million. That is Subs , Paying Subs. Not even the sales and not even counting the Asia market. Those millions that WoW has lost , well it is a case of they have lost more than Anet has ever sold. So go ahead and defend that .

no Alice, go back to your Wonderland because even Anet is not backing you up at all. And those WoWKiddies like you like to call them Muthax, their money is as good as yours.

i will agree with 1 poster regarding Orr, the mobs are jamp packed in the area and they all are really annoying to fight. I run around naked rather than bother fighting my way trying to get from point to point especially if i have not =equipped the traits or skills that allow me escape and movement . I am sorry but suggesting that WoW conditioned the players is silly.

WoW and Blizzard never conditioned anyone . If you played vanilla WoW you realize it was a completely different beast from the current state. Think of the Warlord grind for the Warlord or GM weapons.

No, the noobfest drip feeders always existed. Blizzard recognised this and changed their gameplay to feed of the majority. And yes the vast majority . We are not talking a small or even a signficant subset of the gaming mmorpgers. We are talking the vast majority .

As for drop feed content in raids, well according to Blizzard themselves they had to make the content easier as only a tiny 2% ever got to see it because it was … too hard.

So yeah your claim to punishing hard content already existed before your GW1 ever was a twinkle in its developer eyes.

Now i am quite thrilled with GW2, the problem is that thrill is largely done with the prospect of a grind ( 60 COF runs for a set of armor ? ).

I do not believe you can just blame Blizzard or WoW for creating these players. They merely changed vanilla WoW to its current state to capture those players. Those players always were there. They always existed. Who can blame Blizzard or Apple etc for feeding the need of their audience ?

You can despise them all you want but they are the vast majority. I also do not see their gameplay as any worst than the perpetual immersion or RPers or explorer junkies to be honest.

Sorry but you do not need justification or progression to pvp in a pvp zone.

Red is dead is a common mindset . If you find it aggravating then tough, you should expect there are plenty who like aggravating other folk in pvp. Your choice is either kill them, leave and come back later or quit in failure and come here onto the boards and QQ about it.

well we now know which one you choose to do eh ?

i personally feel that the ANet will fail to capture the playerbase as there is not enough progression or shinies to keep them ingame. My experience with the casual playerbase is that most are lazy and noobs and who want stuff handed to them on a plate. They want easy grinds and they want progress by the time they log off at the end of everyday.

they do not get that here in GW2. There is no new shiny item to get that makes their experience easier. The greens they wear at 80 will be only slightly worst than the exotics they wear after grinding COF 50 -60 times. They will still do their best to zerg things down and eventually their attention span will wander. The crutch of stat based progression is not there.

WvWvW does not hold the casual interest long as it is all about the zerg. And zerging is boring and self defeating. As the size only determines success or failure the have nots will transfer to a winning server and then quit when they cannot stand the queues or they cannot win easily.

the pve dungeons are just grinds. Boring ones at that, they differ from each other in visuals but pretty much comes down to Dodge this, Dodge that , DPS this and AOE all that etc 50-60 times to get a new set of armor that looks different from the last set but with the same stats is not exactly empowering or enhancing to the casuals.

and lastly Spvp. Well the casuals won’t do this, there is no progression from this and they will not stand up to the hardcore . Imagine that those who last long enough for ANet to release their next set of dungeons for the next Dragon kill and it will be the same, 50-60 runs in explorer mode for .. a new set of exactly the same but different looking armor / weapons.

of course folk will point out that they are not 80 yet and having fun just exploring etc , but really you explorers are kinda the on the small % of the casual playerbase, hell you are less then the 2% from WoW who actually did the Hardcore raids and saw the content.
