I understand the desire for auto-waypointing dead players, but I’m against it. I don’t think the argument is strong enough to change the mechanic for specific fights, though I think it might be helpful to display a message to a dead player after a set time with information on scaling. It could be phrased creatively to encourage them to waypoint for the good of the fight in in-game fashion rather than specifically talking about mechanics.
I did not know about boss fights scaling prior to reading this post. I tend to play the game more than I read the forums or the wiki, and I do wish certain things were more clear in-game. I think another quick fix would be for anyone in the fight to let other players know that it is better for the event if they waypoint & run back. A closer waypoint would encourage this as well.
A defeated player is not automatically a bad player. They may be simply less well-informed.
I was confused too.
Something else I thought of when looking at this: be nice to have sub-forums for NA & EU specifically for the weekly matchup threads.
Silly mechanic that is apparently really buggy.
I haven’t run a dungeon yet because I hated them in WoW. I’ve hit a small wall after reaching level 80 a few months ago, so I’m thinking of running some story-mode dungeons.
This thread gives me pause though. And still no LFG or Dungeon Queue. Seriously, it’s been months.
Axe / horn Warrior, though I really like the playstyle of sword / horn better. I stick with the axe for the dps.
I have a necro and recently started a thief, but I miss leveling the warrior. Actually thinking of rolling another.
Ya know, I think I would like it if you kept accumulating levels, even if your stats didn’t increase. At least I’d have a level number I could obsess over.
I haven’t done any dungeons at all. I don’t like dungeon gameplay, so I haven’t finished my Personal Story. I don’t plan to either. I guess Zaitan lives on in my world, which explains why the Risen are still all over the place.
While I understand why some guild-only or premade groups wouldn’t want people tagging along, it’s not how WvW is designed. It seems like another game mode is needed to appeal to people that want to play this way, like TPvP with larger teams or different maps.
I think the PvP locker only applies to SPvP (Structured Player vs Player) — in SPvP, your character is leveled to 80 and you can use weapons aquired in the Mists PvP area, which is like a game lobby.
WvW play can be entered from the top-left menu icons. You enter at your current character level, with whatever equipment you already have from the PvE world.
It seems reasonable to me that any AOE attack would have a limit of some sort. Assuming that a magical AOE attack was a real thing, it would have limited power spread among everyone in the target area. So either 5 targets get full effect, or 50 targets would receive 1/10th of the same effect.
It’s not like you’re dropping a nuclear bomb on the battlefield. It’s a finely-tuned magical attack.
+1 agree
Best would be multiple options for title display:
Display on mouseover
Display on select
Cull title display
Title font size +/-

They just tweeted: @GuildWars2 1m
We are investigating the connectivity issues now. Thank you for the reports, and for your patience in the interim! ^ET
Sorrow’s Furnace, same error code.
I couldn’t log in to the website at first either, but that’s fixed now.
I thought about it. I started using the Mystic Forge, which I find a bit addicting, and salvaging yellows for ecto. Over about a week, I have 17 ectos, which isn’t much.
I really don’t know when or if I’ll ever get 100% world completion either — I don’t really like Orr much. I’m thinking a Legendary just doesn’t fit in with my more casual playstyle, which makes sense.
There are other pretty cool MF weapons for far less investment.
I agree that the wording is confusing, but I figured 7 was the limit because I’m a pessimist lol.
Glad to hear it’s 8 though. Thanks Draygo!
I think it might be useful to put switch options on a splash screen (ie -diag, -repair, -log) or a separate shortcut that leads to an interface to select switches to help isolate and repair problems with the client.
It’s hard to remember all the switches, so I saved a doc to my hard drive, but some others might not even know the switches exist.
IvanHoe, your link looks broken, but I think you’re pointing to this http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/
Hardcore vs Casual is a common issue for all MMOs. I think GW2 deals with it better than other games have.
I like that the dungeons, specifically FotM (anyone else find it funny that this also stands for Flavor of the Month?) are aimed at the hardcore players. Knowing this steers me away from the dungeons, since I’m more of a casual player.
Each type of players’ desires bring something different to the game, which is a good thing.
I would also suggest trying a different weapon. Part of what gets me bored is the repetitive 1 abilities. Sometimes for PvE, I’ll switch it up just to keep things interesting.
Don’t you drown if you don’t wear an aquabreather?
I haven’t tried it. I just assumed this would be the case.
AoE was a problem in that “other” game too, and I think they did nerf it modestly.
The five-target limit doesn’t make logical sense unless it’s like chain lightning or something. Some forms of AoE might spread the damage so that 10 targets would receive 1/10 the damage, but that would probably only exacerbate the exact issue that AN is trying to fix.
If it is genuinely a problem, I think making the AoE end more quickly is the best solution. It would be easier to tweak individual skills in this way as well, by changing recharge timers and effect time.

Thanks for responses. Moving with the D-pad is really a pain. Forward is the only easy movement, so I think I’ll make some changes.
I do like 10 = F. Seems so much more convenient there.
Something I experimented with for a different game profile was making 15 = switch keymaps. Not necessarily by cycling, but maybe keymap 1 switches it to 2, and on keymap 2 switching it back to 1. This way you can have Map, Inventory, etc on the alternate keymap.
I’m gonna work on it and post an update.
I’m gonna try this build. Thanks for sharing.
My 80 main is a warrior, and I thought necro would be a cool alt, but don’t really like playing finger-wigglers. Since I enjoy the melee of the warrior, I’m hoping to like this necro build. Direct Damage (is that what D/D is?) is more fun to play for me.
This is a good idea. Also the date & time.
I’d like to see these things on the summary page too. Really, they should just look at the many other forums that already exist with better functionality.
I’m still refining my keybinds for a new Nostromo controller. I’m curious to know what works for others.
My current setup:
1 through 10 = 1 through 10
11 = TAB
12 = F
13 = M (Shift +M = I)
14 = SPACE
15 = Swap Weapon
16 = Shift
D-pad buttons:
I have Left set to W / forward:
e D e
W……S
q A q
because I find it more comfortable.
The scroll wheel is also set to Tab & Shift Tab.
I have dodge bound to Mouse 4.
I do have an alternate setup where 1-5 shifted = 6-0, but I find that a little more cumbersome. I’ve also tried binding keys 7 or 8 to W because I’m so used to using WASD for movement, but I’m trying to get more accustomed to using the D-pad and using the buttons for other abilities.

I logged off after tying to play with hundreds of players during the 1st one-time event due to lag. It was not fun at all, and I seriously doubt I will bother with any other one-time events.
The Mad King cutscene worked well I think, and honestly there’s no reason for it to only happen at the same time for everyone — just queue it up the first time someone logs in to the area.
I thought I would enjoy WvW more than I do. I actually kinda hate it, but I like the idea, so I’ve been trying to figure out what would make it better. I have no idea if I’m alone in my opinions, but I suspect that a portion of the playerbase must feel the same (statistically possible), and maybe some ideas might gain traction for players even if they’re not as disenchanted by WvW as I.
Waypoints: I think waypoints that can be held by a faction would be good. Even if they’re the already-implemented waypoints at facilities. Just make them not reset (disappear) when the facility changes hands. Running across an entire map is not fun.
Visual zerg indication: There’s already the battle indicator, which is great, but if there’s no battle indicated, it would be nice to have some sort of visual indication of large groups of players, both friendly and otherwise. The logic being that our Veteran Guards somehow communicate enemy movements to the map function. — Yeah, still doesn’t make sense, but it would be cool anyway.
Supply: Running supply is tedious. Maybe if we could unlock a way to carry more than 10 stacks. I also think that Dolyaks should carry more. I do think that the balance between Treb damage to a gate and repair rates to a gate is done well.
Siege equipment: (related to supply) I hate that I have to use blueprints to build siege, then I need other players to help build it (or tirelessly run supply myself), and then I may or may not get a chance to use the equipment, gaining kills or doing damage or whatever. Ideas for improvements: 1) Restrict users for newly-built equipment to the originator for 5 minutes, unless specifically unlocked by the originator. 2) Have blueprints that cost more for insta-build deployment (magical workers with supply pop up or something). 3) Character unlock that allows less supply to be necessary for building. 4) Give credit for any damage done by any player to the originator at a reduced rate, possibly based on time / distance from deployed equipment.

Hah, I hadn’t realized that killing the weapons rezzed your NPC pals. I did see a couple pop back up, only to die again, but it was nice to have them draw aggro while I dpsed the Mouth.
What I ended up doing was ranged damage while evading his attacks. I would then run up the hill to kill the delivery boys because when they give him food he heals himself, then back to ranged damage on the Mouth. If you kill the Mouth before the circling weapons, the weapons will despawn.
I’m pretty sure this one is called Estate of Decay. It took about forever and was awful.
I too gave up entering them, which is a shame. I was pretty happy when I first found the option, but let down time and again after each update.
50 & diggin’ it
So I agree that a sticky would be great.
Thanks Holska!
After looking at the info it appears the ratings with the deviation & volatility numbers leave a lot of room for error. Granted, all of the servers are subject to similar numbers in deviation and volatility, so server ratings relative to each other is probably close.
Taking my server, Sorrow’s Furnace, as an example, if I’m understanding this correctly, our score is 1309.328. According to Glickman’s document the deviation would be the score plus or minus twice the deviation, so we end up with a 97% chance of Sorrow’s Furnace rating being between 899.954 and 1718.702. That means we’re either fourth from the bottom or ninth from the top, with 13 possible positions between.
Not very exacting, really, but since all the servers are subject to the same math, the positions are statistically correct, if not the actual scores. Probably.
+1
more options are always good
Excellent suggestions. I do think that multiple-guild membership can be looked at. If one of my characters gets a guild invite, why should any of my other characters also be able to represent that guild? I think it should be character-based, perhaps with an option of the guild leader to extend the invite to the entire account or only one character.
Can we get a sticky that explains these statistics and how they’re calculated? About the only thing I understand about these posts is the relative placement of the servers.
I’ve mostly enjoyed WvW, winning or losing.
Seems like loot drops more now — maybe I’m just playing differently — that helps pay the repair bill, taking some of the sting out of dying. I do hate the current state of waypoints though — I’d like to see some cool updates to that system, and an easy way to spot the zerg on the map, because, well, I think it’s fun to run with the zerg.
I wasn’t aware of the 5-target limit, and maybe there’s room for debate on that mechanic, but I don’t think the example you’ve provided is an exploit.
If AoE isn’t working against the enemies, then single-target abilities should be used. Unless I’m misunderstanding something here. Were you perhaps trying to use a siege weapon against this opposing horde?
All very cool ideas — as long as Anet got final approval to prevent abuse.
EQ2 added some kind of dungeon maker too. You would get items as loot that you could add to your personal dungeon and other players could encounter your dungeon and rate it.
I look at it more simply. If I price something -1cp, and someone else does the same, etc. sellers will stop undercutting when it becomes unprofitable. LIFO is actually the case, and limited supply drives the price UP if demand buys the lower-priced offerings.
As demand goes up, they buy from the bottom price tiers, working their way up the price scale.
If an item I’ve listed gets undercut severely over time, then demand must be lagging and I can either re-list it or cancel the listing and vendor the item instead.
I appreciate that the game doesn’t have a “free market,” as I understand it. I’m just over 50 years old and I remember the real world trouble caused by our American free market stock exchange over the years.
I readily admit that I do not fully understand economics. I understand it even less when real world markets fluctuate based on rumors, and how housing prices and bad loans started a world-wide recession. Maybe that’s not how it really works, but that’s how it looks to my working-class eye.
I don’t see how you could honestly make a free market in the game anyway. It doesn’t seem right to consider Anet a monopoly, but I can see how the parallel can be made — I just think there must be some higher-theory reasoning as to why this isn’t so. Either way, it doesn’t benefit Anet to mistreat players as a monopoly might mistreat customers to extract profit, so I’m not worried about that aspect of it.
But I wouldn’t put it past players (or gold farmers) to take advantage of other players in a free market environment. Look at pricing of Precursors for an example of gouging. Altruism and community seem to go out the window when the possibility of personal gain exists.
What is a Warrior doing running around screaming about justice? Warrior’s don’t care about justice.
They want to slaughter and dominate their enemies.
Maybe your warrior is a crazed Berzerker, but my Story seems to be emphasizing that mine is interested in justice
I think it’s pretty cool, but wouldn’t mind him not shouting the phrase every time I hit the skill. Maybe if it only voiced the command once every 10 minutes or something, like the warhorn 4 speedboon does (though WH4 does sound more often than I’d like too).

good info
thank you all very much
I’m glad to see a Halloween influence in Tyria. It’s always been my favorite time of year, and being an adult means it’s kinda creepy to trick-or-treat in the real world
I’m also happy that the monthly achievements don’t remain the exact same month-after-month. I appreciate the variety.
I do sympathize with people who don’t like Halloween though. I mean, I get tired of Christmas-themed events pretty quickly, but ya gotta take the bad with the good and find places to play that aren’t overly-decorated or whatever.
level 42-ish
………..
It seems a lot of people like the Signet of Rage or the Battle Standard, and I agree they are both good. I’ve recently gotten enough points to purchase a 30-pointer if I choose, and I’m wondering if they’re worth the investment. So I’m looking for some discussion and input regarding the two 30-point elite skills available to a Norn Warrior:
There’s Rampage, which turns you into a Juggernaut, but is it as great as it sounds?
The other one is called Become the Snow Leopard, which appears to be merely a fluff skill, though I think it includes stealth.
I too like the warhorn, but only switched to it about 10 levels ago. I’m learning (and trying to remember) which setups work best in what situations. I think every weapon setup in the game is situational: you can do decently with any setup in any situation, but certain setups do better in certain situations.
The trick for me is to remember what they are lol. I have every type of usable weapon on me all the time, so it’s just a matter of deciding & selecting which traits to use.
I find that warhorns are best used in groups, whether it’s PvP or PvE. I’ve been using a 1H sword for the bleeds, but axes are great for dps. Secondary is ranged in PvP and usually a 2H hammer in PvE; I’m not a fan of all the aoe of the Greatsword, but I can see the attraction for others. I really like the hammer abilities and the single-target damage.
I’m on Sorrow’s Furnace, and while it’s not super chatty, people will help you out. I’m kinda glad it’s not super chatty — it seems just right to me. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone run away from a player needing a rez.
I think it’s mainly due to the design of the game, and I appreciate it so much.
Anyone familiar with SWTOR forums will probably agree that the forums here are much less acidic as well.
It would be kinda cool if at least once in a while an animal would run away. I really don’t mind them attacking me if I hit them with AoE, and since everything is AoE to a certain extent — it’s just a matter of how wide a diameter of damage your dealing — I’m bound to draw in a few unintended victims.
I guess I can see your point though — a yellow could be more likely to run away if only receiving slight damage, while they might attack if receiving damage over a certain threshold.
Interesting stuff. I’ve seen parties asking for guardians and warriors for dungeon runs, and one guy even asked for a tank. I think they still exist, if to a lesser extent.
I just hope that it doesn’t get to the point that everyone assumes you should try to tank as a warrior. See, I like the warrior class, but hate tanking /shrug.
I did see a guy being mercilessly chased by an NPC in WvW. He was doing some sort of AoE damage and kiting it, but the mob was right on him the whole time he ran around. Everybody else was trying to do enough damage to the mob to kill it, but this guy really got its attention. Was kinda funny the way the NPC was single-minded in its pursuit of this guy.
I’ve never had a problem losing aggro by gaining a little distance and halt attacking for a moment. Just don’t rez the demon cats til your far away
