So, I rolled up a new guardian because I disliked how my old one looked, and noticed some… interesting… side effects of leveling to 80 in the starting area (explosive intellect as an asura)
It was really for kittens and giggles, aside from laziness. (Pre-searing legendary defender in gw1)
The results… Buggy as all heck. You don’t downscale, so you’re level 80 in a level 1 area. Also, you can’t use a total makeover kit or you crash, and sometimes it just crashes anyway.
Auto-attacks from a level 80 guardian on level 1 mobs apparently hit for 35~55k damage, and mistfire wolf hits for 75~135k on it’s attacks.
Summon Power Suit yields attacks that deal over 100k with launch power fist, have yet to let a level 1 in to see if they deal that much damage too.
EDIT: level 1’s do not get level 80 summoned power suit, sadly.
EDIT2 : Mobs apparently refuse to drop any loot other than the lowest-grade dust and aetherkey pieces.
Pic related.

What’s wrong with going wherever you want? That was how it worked in GW1. Isn’t the idea that you’ve already earned access to those areas, and now you can face greater challenge in any of them at your leisure? You’d still have to redo map completion in hard mode, you could just do it where you pleased.
Anyway, are you really suggesting these perfected portal devices be the only way to access hard mode? That, even if I’ve uncovered the entire map in hard mode, the only way to get in is to spend 20+ ectos every time? And what if I want to do hard mode with friends? We all have to use our own portals, and get thrown to different parts of Tyria? No thank you.
No, that’s for inital entry. Afterwards, you’d re-enter as you suggest. I’m merely liking the idea of a new start with a random seed.
I would much rather see it implemented the way it was in GW1. That is: you beat the game and gain a hard mode button on your UI. When this button is selected, entering any non-city map puts you in a hard mode copy of that map.
I think the concern from ANet’s end is probably splitting of the playerbase, though with the megaserver this isn’t really the issue it used to be.
That’d be simpler, but the reason why I like my idea is two primary reasons.
- Canon. Scarlet is canonical, she’s part of gw2 lore. Everything in gw2 is attempted to be explained, in one way or another. Why not shoehorn her into the source of hard mode? Perhaps that’s where she was portaling in her army from?
- Diversity. If you simply toggled and got access to the entire world in hard mode, you could easily and quickly go wherever you want. This method forces players to re-explore, and to start from random locations rather than simply rampaging around queensdale right away.
Essentially making the world stronger and making your character weaker is the same thing. (and I know that kind of stinks) But what if “hard made” was just a debuff for your character that gave like an extra 100% Magic find? Or whatever reward HM would offer. That way no one in the word is separated but you still get the challenge and higher rewards?
People would simply abuse that for Ktrains and such. Plus, the idea is to have a greater challenge. Changing the AI is the biggest challenge increase, not the reduction of stats.
Edit : Look at boss blitz as a great example of this. Why do instances fail? Because of uplevels, afk’s, etc. People would just use this form of “hard mode” like they do that.
Interesting, but asking Anet to remake a whole entire Tyria instance is probably asking too much of them.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Hard_mode
There’s a precedent. Doing it again for GW2 wouldn’t be any harder, honestly.
I’ll keep this brief because nobody likes huge blocks of text.
This exists already, but has very little purpose. Simply adding a short plot point and recipe to “upgrade” it to a “completed” or “perfected” item to gain access to hard mode tyria. Make the cost fairly high, in the realm of 20+ ecto, plus obsidian and etc. Players should be hesitant to make more than a few.
EDIT : The above device is 400 artificing, the upgraded device would be 500.
- Using the device, at current, transports you to a random location in tyria. Using it upon being upgraded, will instead bring you to a random location in HARD MODE tyria. Effectively functioning the same, but bringing you to hard mode.
- Effectively, any player entering hard mode tryia will have their map entirely reset – after all, they haven’t yet explored “hard mode tyria” at all. Entering via this device ensures that players are evenly and randomly dispersed, and must endeavor to reach a a waypoint ASAP in order to revive in hard mode and make their way around.
Hard mode should have multiple factors.
1 : Improved AI throughout all of tyria, enemies should react to aoe, target players more intelligently, attempt to interrupt key skills, kite players, etc.
2 : level 80 (or higher!) enemies globally, with revamped skills and buffs.
3 : Greatly increased rewards for all content, without reducing the variety of rewards. AKA : low-level areas yield high amounts of iron, silver doubloons, etc.
~There’s more, but I’m attempting to be as brief as possible.

Finished W2 Zone 3 TM. No Coin in Chest.
in Super Adventure Box: Back to School
Posted by: Boolet.2968
So… my friend and I just finished Tribulation Mode World 2 Zone 3 after a LOT of work, and the chest was empty. No “Storm Wizard Z-3” coin…
Can we PLEASE get a fix on this or something? I don’t know if tribulation chests are considered the same as normal mode chests so it didn’t reset, but I’m honestly going to be really disappointed if I don’t get the coin. That took so much work. :/
Please, Anet. Please, Josh.
Edit: This was our FIRST time ever doing W2Z3 TM.
How exactly did you finish W2 Z3 without upgrading your Candle? I can see on your skill bar it isn’t upgraded.
I’m about to head off for the night, but before I do I thought I’d make a thread to discuss Tribulation Mode a bit.
http://i.imgur.com/cPWILO6.jpg
^ As the above screenshot shows, I just finished W2 Z2 in Tribulation mode, and I must say that I hope further worlds do not have as lengthy levels as this.
It took me over 2 hours to complete, primarily due to the sheer size of the level and the trial & error required for this mode. (Granted, I hadn’t done it in regular mode before, so it was a little MORE trial and error for me)
W1 Z1 – Easy (once you understand Tribulation) It’s a good start to the mode, to understand what you’re getting into.
W1 Z2 – Moderate (Though I wasted far too much time due to some checkpoints having difficulty finding the balloon for the cloud ._.)
W1 Z3 – Moderate / Hard (Not getting any bonus baubles for completion was a letdown, however… And the Queen Beedog is confounding on this zone)
W2 Z1 – Moderate (Not TOO difficult, though finding the path can be quite difficult and nonsensical at times – like the shopkeep jump at the beginning, I can clearly see the spikes popping through, I should die doing that jump)
W2 Z2 – Moderate-lengthy (Harder than W2 Z1, though not too difficult. Mostly difficult due to the large size… I estimate it took me 2 hours 35 minutes to finish my first run)
Suggestion : Tribulation Mode Legendaries
in Super Adventure Box: Back to School
Posted by: Boolet.2968
Since before the release of guild wars, legendaries were spoken of repeatedly, there are multiple videos anet has personally released speaking of legendaries being intended as showing off a player’s accomplishements, and being “the ultimate display of a player’s mastery of the game”
As such, with SAB Tribulation mode being added, the first (hopefully) genuinely difficult skill-based content you can’t be carried through, I suggest that at world 4, legendaries be added.
In a nutshell, you’d aquire say… 4 SAB scepters. All 4 tribulation skins, one for each world. You then throw these into the mystic forge, and make a single weapon… A SAB Legendary, modeled after current legendaries but in SAB style.
Two examples for the concept…
Meteorlogicus – inspired by the “happy clouds”
Kudzu – Pixelated with footfalls based on World 1.
TLDR; If Tribulation mode is as hard as it’s said to be, we should be able to make legendaries based on SAB for completing all 4 worlds.
(Or in the very least, combine the 4 weapons into a single chromatic skin, though I feel SAB-style legendaries would be a far more fitting reward for completing everything)
I think that each run she focuses on one person only. I have had her chase me twice for the entirety of the event. Both times she also spawned on me for her end of event battle.
See, that’s what I found weird. She teleported to me a few times during previous invasions, but never to THIS extent. Did you also get disconnected after she spawned on you for the end of event battle?
Your guild’s name. I love it. Katamari Damacy <3
Thanks. It’s actually a pretty new guild, popped into my head and started it about two weeks ago.
So I just went around to what would be my 8th completion, a repeat of Blazeridge, when this happened….
It didn’t matter where I went. It didn’t matter what I did. She spawned on me over 20 times.
In the end, she spawned on me as the actual finale, teleported to me twice, which ended up disconnecting me from the server, so I didn’t get credit.
I took a few screenshots after she started getting REALLY persistent.
(Warning : I occasionally use some crude language directed at scarlet)
If you pay attention, you’ll notice that no matter where I am, no matter what I’m doing, no matter who or how many players are around me, she comes to me. ._.;;
(edited by Boolet.2968)
So, there’s been talk for some time now that “Commander” is going to be improved somehow in the future…
I suggest, that with this improvement come two things.
1) “Ranked” Commanders.
By which I mean, changing how the icon represents itself based on a few factors.
Accents to the primary shape should be added… Bronze for Bronze Invader, Silver for Silver Invader, etc.
Secondarily, the color itself should be augmented. 0+ Achievement points, Blue (standard) icon. 5000+, Green. 10k+ would be Yellow, 15k+ would be Orange, and 20k would max it out at Red.
This allows WXP rank and Overall Achievement to be displayed and roughly “Rank” a commander.
2)
With this “Ranking” system, and having seen several blobs of 5+ commanders moving around together, I feel like the visible commanders on the map should be culled.
Ranking works like this. WXP rank > Achievement rank. Achievement rank would only become a factor when, for example, two “Silver Invader” Commanders are near eachother, whoever has more achievements would outrank the other.
Couple this with choosing the highest “Ranked” commander within a 5000 range radius, and having only them visible. This would eliminate clutter when multiple commanders are present in close proximity, allowing for one commander to follow.
How did you do Blobs, Schmobs? i just cant do it with my warrior :/
I didn’t attempt it on my warrior. I did that on my thief.
If I HAD to do it on warrior, I’d do basically the same thing as I did for Liadri.
Stomp/Fear Me/Staggering to keep the smaller ooze away so I don’t kill them accidentally.
Killing her wasn’t the hard part, I did it in <10 tries myself on a Warrior using Hammer + Sword/Shield… Same as I used for every other boss. :P
Then I did 5 gambits on thief, now I’m stuck on 8 orbs. xD
Yeah, I did Ooze.
I actually completed… Uhh….
Blobs, Schmobs
Humble Victor
Risk Taker
Triple Threat
Hight Stakes Gambler
Queen’s Gauntlet Champion
All of those by doing 5 gambits on Ooze. Was really easy, beat ’em first try.
I used the following gambits.
Exhausted
You cannot dodge roll and will always have zero endurance.
Frailty
All damage from attacks is increased.
Hamstring
You will be crippled for the entire fight.
On Fire
You will have the fire debuff for the entire fight.
Squeamish
All damage you do is reduced.
EDIT : As for people having difficulty with Liadri, I beat her fairly easily on warrior with Hammer/X+Shield. Bring Stomp and Fear Me. Basically just separate her slightly from her shades, then beat her to a pulp.
When shades come near, use earthshaker, followed by staggering blow, followed by stomp… when they come back earthshaker → staggering again, and finally fear me.
Plenty of time to mostly straight DPS her. Shades are largely ignored due to being CC’d away.
(edited by Boolet.2968)
So, as the attached screenshot shows, I’ve completed all of Queen’s Gauntlet but this one achievement. And to be honest, I find it somewhat unreasonable.
Here’s why – It takes so… SO long to hit her with 8 orbs. If it wasn’t for the time limit, it wouldn’t be a problem. But getting 8 orbs, then killing her within the time limit… I just can’t do it.
Any way that repeat attempts on her could be without a time limit? Or am I alone in thinking this needs to not be time-restricted?
I honestly don’t even know why they are making a leaderboard for this. The only people on it will be people who have never missed a daily or monthly (pve and pvp).
That’s not true at all.
I haven’t missed a daily/monthly. I have something like 5400 points. And I have been getting plenty of other achievements too.
I see a lot of people running around with 7,000+ points. That to me is enough proof that hard work will get you into the achievement boards ahead of the people who have done dailies consistantly.
In the long run though, the people who did their dailies will slowly start to take over as they achievement hunt. And I don’t see an issue with that.
Even if they weren’t doing their dailies, people who have played the game since day 1 should have more achievements than people who just started playing. And over time, they will continue to get higher. While the new players have a chance, in reality they don’t. And eventually there would be a cap, and once that cap hits the leaderboard would be stupid and pointless.
Maybe it’s stupid and pointless now. But if it is, there’s no need to complain about it. The “elistists” will brag about it, you’ll laugh at them for bragging, and the world will move on.
One of these days the forums will learn to stop complaining about everything ANET adds to the game and instead realize that ANET is constantly giving us new content and new goals to achieve. Instead of saying “It’s awesome that ANET is giving us stuff, but I don’t like one thing about it”, we hear “This is stupid, why bother adding it if it isn’t the way I want it?”.
I’ll agree with you that dailies aren’t everything, having missed at least 20 dailies due to moving across the country, and not starting spvp dailies/monthlies until january… And I have 7,101 achievement points currently.
Though, I do say that it’s somewhat depressing to be at such a high amount, and due to my stance of NOT exploiting the trading post for profit, as I see doing so to be an enormous kitten move… I have yet to achieve a single legendary, get a single full set of T3 armor, I don’t have any minipets… etc. Pretty much all the “money” achievements, I’m lacking in. (including salvages)
Here, take a looksee at them.
http://i.imgur.com/lIMqSPk.jpg?1
And for those curious…
http://i.imgur.com/PXxqDgG.jpg?1
Ironically, I have 100% world completion on my war, it bugs out and shows 0% sometimes. Too lazy to get a proper picture.
Umm…because he’s too busy"Dhuuming" bots and griefers? He must be exhausted with so many more players in GW2. =D
I’d say this is true, if that animation persisted in gw2. It doesn’t, so lies!
So here’s a quick question to mull over… Why hasn’t Dhuum taken over during our absense from UW between GW1 and GW2?
I know game-wise why he hasn’t, if he WERE in charge, undead wouldn’t exist, and resurrection wouldn’t be possible.
But lore-wise… he’s the strongest of the gods, and he was only re-sealed, because he was too powerful to be destroyed. Additionally, if memory serves, he had to be constantly in-check or he’d merely break free again.
Two things to keep in mind… Firstly, Abaddon was AT LEAST as strong as the “tyrian gods” combined.
Secondly, Abaddon was able to be destroyed, allowing kormir to take his place. If HE could be destroyed, but dhuum was too powerful to be destroyed… Dhuum must be stronger than all the existing gods combined.
Now before someone says “But kormir is allied with them…” Please, kormir has no power whatsoever. She couldn’t even clear out abaddon’s remaining minions, all she could do was open the door to let “us” in.
Oh, and we know Grenth is still in charge, there’s a personal storyline near the end where you meet an avatar of grenth. Grenth is in charge, but greatly weakened over time due to the whole zhaitan thing. The avatar of grenth couldn’t even destroy a little veteran mob by himself, nor could he help us destroy him. He literally said he was too weak to do the task himself. (Himself, being the avatar of grenth)
So I ask you… why hasn’t Dhuum taken over? The way I see it, Dhuum should have offed grenth, Menzies would follow suit and take over the realm of war… and so forth.
Also, if I recall properly, in preview it removed my character’s hair… Having it not do this would also be swell.
So, it’s been leaked on various sites (reddit, etc) that there is a headpiece skin of the crown king toad uses, and this is restricted to town clothing.
Is there any hope of revising this prior to it’s actual addition to the game, to at least include an actual headpiece to wear in battle? It would be so awesome to use it with the “SAB” weapons.
Regarding the TP… For months now I’ve been asking myself why items purchased aren’t account-bound to prevent “flipping” (Trading Post Manipulation for profit)
Additionally, why on earth Legendaries are tradeable. The majority of components required aren’t, and they were touted as items to “display players mastery of the game”… Which currently just shows how well you can exploit the trading post.
Let me be frank for a moment. I don’t know if this has been discussed openly, but I’m firmly of the belief that there is no point to bother with WvW.
Shocking, right?
Now just hold on a moment before you naysay and argue with me, and hear me out.
Compared to PvE…
Significantly worse loot/gold rewards (see : dungeons/fractals/“dragon” events)
Roughly the same Karma as “Karma Train”, but less reliable (assuming that farming camps and sentries is done)
Very limited/poor rewards via Tokens (Dungeon tokens give gear for free, wvw requires gold as well. There are more stat combos in dungeons, too)
Secondarily, very limited unique items (Light/Medium skins are the only unique items WvW has, period)
Extremely poor achievement progression (not a huge factor, but it’s a factor)
Compared to sPvP…
Significantly less balanced/less reliable fights, as is the nature of WvW.
Additionally, as above, in sPvP if you get a bad match, you waste a few minutes. In WvW, you waste a week.
Less ACTUAL PvP, more time spent running around.
Worse unique rewards (sPvP has finishers, WvW has…?)
And here’s the biggest factor…
Playing WvW, I’m restricted to one character. If I’m not, I’m gimping myself. Progression is character-based, as is commander. Progression is also slow enough that it’s not realistic to max more than once, either.
Additionally, what does this progression yield? Virtually nothing. At extreme rank, 5% increased damage/defense against non-lord guards and mercs, 5% increased/reduced damage vs siege, some bonuses with ballista and cannons, and 5 more supply.
What else do you get? Enhanced focus fire. If you WvW a lot, you’ll stand out, and get focused down by large groups of enemies. It’s counter-productive to be high rank, ironically…. As the only defensive benefit is 5% reduced siege damage.
Oh, and there’s no way players on your server can see your rank, either. So there’s that.
I don’t mean to come off as whiny or whatever, but… aside from monthlies and dailies, I don’t see any reason to enter WvW. Which is a real pity, honestly. I’m just wondering if there’s any plans to improve upon these issues,
a company that refuses to give ETAs is a company that knows it’s not efficient enough to meet that goal.
Ever heard of Gabe Newell?
Super Adventure Box is awesome, but forcing it’s theme onto players that may detest it’s very existence for a whole month would be a terrible idea. It has it’s place where people can avoid it if they want to.
Hmm… True, but by then custom arenas may be available, and couldn’t it be an option when creating them?
Specifically, sold via black lion trading for 500~1000 gems, allowing for a player to “extract” a skin from an existing item.
(This would require that the item in question has a “skin” form, and be for the express purpose of allowing players to move Halloween/Wintersday/Etc skins from PvE to sPvP)
I’m sure I’m not the only player who has used skins from before they could be converted to PvP, and would gladly pay gems to get an account-bound skin back out for the express purpose of sPvP.
Account-bound, of course, to prevent selling the skin on the trading post.
I realize it’s likely too late to have it this month… But perhaps when/if World 2 is added, existing sPvP maps could be reskinned to look like the adventure box.
Enemies/etc could be replaced as well… Sharks -> Gators, Guild Lord -> Queen Bee Dog, etc.
Heck, spirit watch could change the orb to a key, and give each point a chest to be unlocked.
Thoughts?
Personally, I think one of the biggest issues with ICD is the lack of knowledge about it… Most of the sigil ICD had to be determined via extensive player testing. When I first started playing GW2, I thought Sigil of Earth and Sigil of Strength had no cooldown.
Many of these sigils (Frailty, Strength, ETC) Still have no notification on them that there is a cooldown at all. A simple fix to these would likely greatly help new players.
EDIT : In a nutshell, a quick scan through traits, sigils, and runes to make sure all cooldowns involved were listed /somewhere/ in game would be great.
Honestly, I feel that the AoE limit could be raised, so long as diminishing returns were applied similar to warrior’s “Crack Shot” Trait.
As someone who completed all SAB achievements, I WAS going to try and help you, but you wouldn’t respond to whispers. :P No cookies for you.
Cause I was alt-tabbed forum reading/posting! I also got snacks. :P
I don’t have it in me to try again right away anyway, 3 hours in one zone for one achievement has wiped me out for the day. x_x
Y’know you’re probably just missing the one bobble I missed. Just saying. I had trouble with all 3 zones, ended up missing 1 bobble in zone 1, 1 in zone 2, and 1 in zone 3 after arduous amounts of searching.
I’ll give you a hint. It’s behind the speed boost powerups.
Okay, after having spent 3 hours trying to get the bauble achievement in zone 3 I’m definitely going to suggest that there either:
- Needs to be some kind of 000/000 bauble counter for each zone or:
- Need to have the achievement not dependent upon a boss kill. Since there’s no way to go back and figure out what you missed you may miss it again next time.
As someone who completed all SAB achievements, I WAS going to try and help you, but you wouldn’t respond to whispers. :P No cookies for you.
I tell you that you cannot have wrong target and suggest you to use call target feature to see and test it this yourself. Instead you call this (testing, to show you’re wrong) dumb and continue demanding them to fix targeting. Targeting, that is working properly just btw.
No, what you are saying is that I am required to add a second party member, so I can use call-target, even while I’m playing in single player. I’m calling this a dumb solution to the problem. Because the auto targeting shouldn’t be broken to begin with. Why should the player bend over backwards to be able to properly select the boss?
Targeting is not working properly. It has NEVER worked properly since release. There are a ton of threads on this forum regarding the broken targeting system!
Your claim that I cannot have a wrong target is FALSE. During the eating phase, you can have the amulet selected (I’ve had auto target select this on many occasions), and you will NOT hit the frog with your gems while this is the case. And it is a well known problem of the game, that large enemies are hard to select. So you could be clicking for your dear life on that huge frog boss, and you would still be unable to properly select the boss.
with exception that you can target it in eating phase’s beginning,
-Which is exactly the problem. Auto target sometimes selects the amulet during this moment, when you are about to throw the gem. And thus the gem misses, and the tongue hits, and you lose a life (even though you tossed the gem).
Autotarget works perfectly.
Are you trolling? Maybe you should do a quick search on auto-targeting on this forum and then come back.
Personally, I suggest that you simply disable auto-target, just like I’ve always suggested to disable double-tap to evade. I’ve had both disabled since launch, and haven’t looked back.
Do Experience Boosters work with WXP?
And if not, will WXP Boosters be introduced at some point? No and yes.
Experience Boosts will not increase your World XP rewards and we do have intentions to add a World Experience Boost in the future.
Why not increase functionality of the existing Glory Booster to boost WXP, and possibly rank gain as well?
I’m seeking a guild, primarily for Guild Missions. Secondarily, sPvP tournaments, and possibly other PvE content such as high-difficulty Fractals.
A little about me…
IGN / Main : Minmax
Gate of Madness (Doesn’t matter for dungeons/guild missions/sPvP though)
6,287 Achievement points
7 level 80’s, everything but Engineer.
Warrior main, with geared guardian and thief as well.
r26 sPvP, 28 QP
30 AR / fractal 33 personal on Warrior.
Can’t think of much else that’d be noteworthy that would actually matter and not just be bragging, so I think that’s enough of a list.
Y’know I actually had to LOG IN in order to ask a question that’s seriously bothering me….
As a player who supposedly is “min-maxing in order to achieve maximum effectiveness and minimum time/effort in dungeons”…
Why, for all that is holy, do you use Prayer to Dwayna.
Unless you know some secret I don’t, it’s one of the most rubbish skills that exists.
Reasons for Resolve over Dwayna…
1. Higher healing bursts to counter heavy damage.
2. Utility (condition removal) when healing is not necessary.
3. Can be used underwater.
Reasons for Dwayna over Resolve…
1. 10 health per second (theoretically) higher when used perfectly on cooldown during long fights.
Notice how I threw around words like “theoretically” in there.
You don’t heal until you take damage. So let’s assume the fight “starts” once you heal the first time.
With Dwayna, you just healed for 6775 and cannot heal for another 31 seconds (cooldown + cast times).
With Resolve, you would heal for 8525, and cannot heal for another 41 seconds.
That’s a difference of 1750 healing. Seeing as Dwayna would heal for 10 health per second greater with only 300 healing power, it’s easy enough math to divide that by 10.
As such, you would have to be engaged in a fight for nearly 3 minutes (2 minutes and 56 seconds) before you gained ANY benefit from Dwayna.
All of the above calculations greatly diminishes if healing is not done on-cooldown, and disregards potential “healing” from removing damaging conditions via Resolve.
Rule of thumb for this particular comparison would be simple. If you ever delay more than 1 second before recasting Dwayna, change it for Resolve. At 33 second recasts your 10 health per second advantage is reduced to a 2 health per second defecit.
Anywho, that’s all I had to say.
~Minmax
Well aren’t you special.
With my regular traits and equipment, I see 13 1/2s bleed on sword 1, and 20 1/2s on 4/5.
I observe no difference between my 2x rabid swords and 2x giver’s swords.
Both on skill mouseover and actual inflicted duration.
I just stripped nude (as I remembered my lyssa runes give +10% condition duration, thinking perhaps that duration is overriding giver’s)
So yeah. Naked, with no traits whatsoever, and comparing a giver’s sword to a rabid sword, no duration increase shown on mouseover or actual inflicted.
(edited by Boolet.2968)
ok you need to go attack something with the weapon not eq look at the skill timer on the monster of the condition you applied and then do the same with it eq. and see the dif. there is a bug where the stats wont always update on the skills themself on your skill bar. but the effects do still apply. usaly
Don’t assume I didn’t.
I used various skills, though the easiest to test was warrior sword skill 4.
I used various combinations of swords and traits, and most interestingly the duration on the mob was always longer than the listed duration.
(listed 20s, inflicted 23s)
However, “Giver’s” weapons don’t actually enhance the inflicted bleed. I’ve tested with 0, 10, 20, and 30% condition duration with traits, regular sword, sword with 10% bleed duration (superior agony), giver’s sword, giver’s sword with superior agony, and deep cuts (+50% bleeding duration)
No combination of the above showed EITHER giver’s swords increasing bleed duration. Main, off, or both.
From having no other condition duration bonuses than giver’s, to having every bonus under the sun (and everything in-between)
I didn’t notice an extension to the duration of vulnerabilities inflicted, either. From traits or utilities.
I didn’t check either, but can confirm that it didn’t work for me either.
On my warrior I crafted 2 giver’s swords.
Neither one is increasing my bleed or vulnerability durations.
(tested with sword bleeds, vulnerability traits, and bleed/vulnerability utilities)
I’m USA-server and down for this, I’d prefer to be on my warrior, but could also come on necro or ranger if preferred. Account name : Boolet.2968
I’d be down for this, if you haven’t already left.
i’m more in favor of the theory that the sylvaris are more of Tyria’s answer to the dragons, like antibodies or something.
This is most likely, since the Nightmare court is NOT the true nature of sylvari without the tablet of Ventari. In the Sylvari storyline, you meet someone who was born of another tree, and he is nothing like the Nightmare court. Honestly, this whole Pale Tree = Dragon minion thing is quite silly, imo
Agree. Plus, it’s only stated that Sylvari cannot rise as an UNDEAD. It doesn’t mean they can’t be corrupted by other methods.
I assume the reason behind this is their “Dream of dreams” Where their “Souls” go after death. Making them more of a husk of a former sylvari, and not able to be corrupted by Zhaitan. It’s been shown multiple times that those corrupted still have all of the memories/etc from when they were alive, and all of those are in the “Dream of dreams”
Long story short, I jumped off of Rata Sum into the water, dying instantly.
I then used a Revive Orb, so that I could swim around and explore the area, maybe get a better look at the Polymock Arena, see what it looked like.
Lo and behold, upon nearing said arena, I was suddenly hit with a loading screen, and found myself in Asuran Jail in Rata Sum. Many sadfaces were had.
Here’s a few screenshots I took once I found myself in jail.

Also, interestingly… The panel next to the cell still stated that the cell was “Vacant” and that there was no reason given for the cell being active.

To make them viable/on par with normal skills mean directly to make people pick a race Y to a class X , yes it does. Simple because they are not the same racials , and some classes lack things racials IF buffed , would cover for , or at least help out on.
So , it would go directly against Anet idea of racials should not interfere with what class you pick? It would.
I’m pretty sure that’s a decision for ANET to make. And again, if racial skills are at least close to on-par with class skills… Good enough that you could see yourself USING them… People will still prefer different races. Everyone prefers different skills. (And racial skills can’t be used in sPvP anyway.)
So … you see no point and you got tons of time in your hands , so they should remove magic find and slow the process to everyone else? Nice logic.
Really it is a matter of choice like you said , MF will speed the process , but it is not mandatory for it. So if YOU dont want to use the MF gear , dont , simple.
Other players like me would rather have max rewards for 1 hour and then hitting DR than farming for 5 hours , simple cause i dont have 5 hours to farm the same place everyday , sorry i got other things to do.
Technically, you’re never getting much above 200% MF. That means that killing the same amount of mobs, you’re getting 3x the loot. (1 hour of farming, worth 3)
So for starters, you can’t farm in 1 hour what you’d normally get in 5. Secondly, losing out on the other stat gains… Specifically, you’re losing out on ~41% of your overall equipment stats while wearing MF gear.
That’s bound to slow down your “grinding” by 10~25%. What you’d normally kill in 60 minutes would take 66~75 minutes. You’re still getting more loot, but you’re not getting as much as you think you are. And MF has no effect on anything but direct monster drops.
@ Nox
I specifically stated to make them universally better. Not better than class skills, but at least hooking in to a trait for every class so that they’re potentially viable outside of level 15~60.
A simpler solution is to simply buff them outright, but as I said they’re just SO much worse that there’s no reason for ANY class to bring them.
Further zones added should have more temple-esque events, requiring large numbers of at least semi-coordinated players to complete.
As the topic would suggest, I’m yearning for more Guild Wars weapons to be implemented in GW2. Within the list of Core, Prophecies, and Eye of the North, here’s a short list of weapon skins that I don’t find in GW2, and would like to see added.
Axe : Dwarven Axe, Chaos Axe.
Sword : Vampiric Dragon Sword, Emerald Blade, Obsidian Edge.
(As far as VDS is concerned, it could be added as “Primordius’s Magma Breath”, or something similar.) Honestly, I’d like to see every dragon have a dragon sword.
Hammer : Mursaat Hammer.
Shield : Magmas Shield.
Bow : Storm Bow, Mursaat Bow.
Staff : Dolyak Prod Staff.
Focus : Grim Cesta(knife), Grim Cesta (gauntlet), Celestial Compass,
Now before someone interjects, I know that racial skills are not intended to be better than regular skills.
But that’s just it, the vast majority of them aren’t even close to the strength of regular, class-based skills.
Let’s take a look at the two racial healing skills. They really are great examples of how racial skills should and should not be.
Healing Seed – Good.
Not outright better than class-based heals, but effectively a racial Healing Turret. Inferior in every way to an actual Healing Turret, but this gives classes without AoE heals the ability to support allies.
Prayer to Dwayna – Bad. Awful.
I honestly can’t find a healing skill that ISN’T superior. And not just by a little bit, by a lot.
Take Ranger for example. Prayer to Dwayna is effectively a weaker Heal as One, with a 50% longer recharge, 100% longer casting time, and does not heal your pet. Oh, and you can’t use it underwater, either.
Not enough? Warrior. Prayer to Dwayna is in this case, a weaker Mending, with a longer cooldown, can’t be used underwater, and doesn’t remove two conditions.
I could compare every class like this, but you understand what I’m getting at. I don’t think that Racial Skills should be BETTER than Class Skills… But they should be on-par. They don’t benefit from Traits, so even 100% equal to Class Skills, they’ll be inferior.
Honestly, every race should have their skills revamped and buffed, and have several skills that hook in to at least one trait, and preferably as many traits as possible. It’d be complicated, but potentially all racial skills could have a different copy for each class.
As an example, let’s look at Charr’s Shrapnel Mine.
Guardian : Functions as Spirit Weapon (mine); does not automatically explode, can be commanded to explode. Increased radius and damage.
Warrior : Functions as a Physical Utility Skill.
Engineer : Functions as a Gadget.
Ranger : Functions as a Trap.
Thief : Functions as a Trap.
Elementalist : Functions as a Glyph; Inscribes a rune on the ground at the set location, rather than tossing a mine directly. Could alternatively function as a Summoned Weapon, granting a second explosion when traited.
Mesmer : Functions as a Clone; Spawns a Clone at the mine’s location when placed, which taunts the nearest enemy.
Necromancer : Functions as a Well; Damage/conditions are not applied instantly, and are instead applied over 5 seconds as per a normal well.
I don’t really expect a suggestion like this to go through, but I’d love it if it were. Practically every skill could get this treatment, making them somewhat viable to add some diversity out there.
1. (Orbs of Power)
Bring back Orbs of Power to WvWvW, but change how they function. Ideally, they should have growing bonuses to make holding/stealing them become increasingly important over time.
As an example, say Orbs were worth 10 points at every tally. This bonus could increase every hour to a maximum of +50, resetting if the Orb is stolen or the keep is captured. Alternatively, rather than simply growing over time… Further Orbs could spawn in the Altar at the top of the map, and can be placed (stacked) on top of eachother for increased bonuses. (up to the conventional 25 stacks, and therefore reduced to 2~3 points per stack at tally)
Furthermore, rather than functioning as point gain, Orbs could be used as a sort of "Orb"ital strike cannon (pardon the pun) Activating the orb would destroy it, and cause a strike at a keep of your chooosing. (the orb would then later respawn at the top of the map)
2. (Alternative Point Gain)
I see WvWvW as GW2’s Alliance Battles. As such, I feel it would be beneficial to reinforce players in all aspects of WvWvW, rather than making the focus entirely about holding land.
Currently, while there are a great deal of events and enemies in WvWvW… Most of this is looked down upon by the majority of the playerbase. “Why waste all that time killing the Overgrown Grub?” People ask. And they’re right, you know. Why do it?
Here’s why. Add point values to actions performed outside of holding areas at set tallies. Upscale the point value of held structures to keep them important, then add in alternate means of generating points for your server. 1 point per player kill, 5 points for “small” events (Veteran Ice Wurm and similar) 100 points for “large” events (Overgrown Grub and similar) and 3 points per player completion of Obsidian Sanctum (Awarded on chest use)
3. (Balance)
One of the biggest issues plaguing WvWvW is the lack of Balance. And by that I mean player-base balance. Many people complain that their server has no “Night Krewe”, and they’re hit hard during the night. They don’t have many people to fight, and “Outmanned” doesn’t do anything to help that.
My suggestion is a simple one. Multiple tiers of buffs. For simplicity sake, compare the highest population server to the current server at any time, only taking into account the current battleground.
I’ll give some examples below, followed by what these buffs should do.
Server (A) has 100 players. Server (B) has 75. They are Outmanned. Apply the current Outmanned buff.
Server (A) has 100 players. Server (B) has 50. They are Outgunned. Apply a new buff, in addition to or as a replacement of the old buff.
Server (A) has 100 players. Server (B) has 25. They are Grossly Outnumbered. The Kodans cry out in dispair at this lack of balance, and come to Server (B)’s aid.
Server (A) has 112 players, Server (B) has 54, and Server © has 28. (B) is Outgunned, and © has Kodan War Support.
Outmanned : +33% Experience, +33% Karma, +50% drop rate of Siege Blueprints.
Outgunned : Naturally Regenerate Supply. (At a rate of 2 supply per minute)
Kodan War Support : Kodan allies stream in from the main asura gate. These allies act as Dungeon NPC’s, being able to be revived, as well as following nearby players. These Kodans also regenerate supply as with Outgunned, and help build any nearby siege. One Kodan Veteran NPC is added per player below the highest. (E.G. 100 players vs 25, 75 Veteran Kodans join the fray and follow nearby players and/or attack the nearest enemy structure)
4. (Mesmer Portals)
Remove them from WvWvW, or change their mechanic in WvWvW to function as a shadow step rather than a teleport. Preferably, remove them entirely.
