IMO main hand sword to me feels like a (High skill=just to make it work) kinda weapon.
Perhaps high risk, negligible reward sums it up.
Pounce should probably be made a leap finisher as they don’t seem too interested in any design change on sword at the moment.
All these responses and not one “Winter”
Ask again after the 23rd. Honestly not trying to be rude, but everything is going to complete hell on the 23rd when HoT releases. There will be no balance for like a month at least.
If Ranger gets to out of hand (or looks almost like a good idea while drunk) there will be a hotfix on the 24th.
If a similar change (as the original adjustment to WHaO) had been made to a different profession the developers probably would have left it in play for least 3 weeks if not 6 months plus.
IT isn’ t even a nerf. When the pet is defeated, it by no means should be able to soak condis for you. How is this so hard to understand?
Then why did you title your thread “Please Nerf Shared anguish” that is kind of a red flag there, and right now isn’t the best time to be starting inflammatory threads within this community. Is that a hard concept for you to understand?
Did someone called a beta test time out? Either that or their timing was intentional to be better damage control than actually communicating with the community.
if people boycott the class, they will literally leave it be and do nothing for it.
Not really that different from their current approach, those strangely they don’t have issue low number of rangers in tournaments (that have to change the rules to limit the number of elementalist).
I think that it is odd that they (Anet) allow dungeon selling in the looking for group, but do not allow home instance node selling or similar practices, all of which feel very gray market.
I don’t know I’m not sure of the offensive druid builds effectiveness, mostly in PvE. Maybe it could work in PvP… I’m still a little bit puzzled about it^^
Better wait the feedback of this week end I guess!
Still, I’m convinced that people are playing ranger because of the hype of the “dedicated healer”
yeah, definitely pvp. daze forever.
They won’t let ranger keep that duration, it would step on someone feelings or cause hurt of the butt kind.
I’d like to see how nonconstructive the other profession can be, look at the development history of ranger and then apply it (in 5-6 week time) to the rest of the profession see if they are half a reasonable as this community has been.
The pet system (more lack of system) was rushed and due to the “low hanging fruit” focus of fixing things has seen nothing but band-aid fixes along with a lack of transparency on what exactly they (the designers) want ranger to do/be.
Perhaps it would be better to ask them to bring the other professions down instead of asking for ranger to be brought up.
I think while Roy was the one to implement the change it was likely at Peters direction.
That being said the ranger community puts up with things a lot better than most of the other profession, even those most other profession get some warning and time to discuss changes instead of hasty knee-jerk reactions.
Heya guys, at least you could test your heal goodies before nerfed. Mesmer still hold the record. Duelist Discipline got nerfed before you could benefit from it. KappaPride.
You mean like the original adapt tier Most Dangerous Game?
Again, it is also the case that a Heal skill that had no added functionality before the patch now has a nice little buff that it didn’t have before.
They could have kept their ‘nice little buff’ and just used that time to communicate to the community in clear precise language what they want from the profession instead of causing a skritt storm with knee-jerk reactions. At this point I would rather see the skill reverted to its pre-patch state.
It just seems to me (and I doubt I am alone in this) that the changes to ranger are often overly sudden and heavy handed, and there is very little (closer to none) communication on the direction and intention of the development going into the profession.
How’d this one not get added to blob of WHaO threads?
Is it odd how quickly they tend to implement negative changes to ranger as a oppose to how they handle the other profession?
Kind of par for the course for ranger, imagine if the other profession were ‘balanced’ in a similar fashion/rate.
.
OMG someone else can stack boons FOR THEMSELVES just like ele does for entire party…
This pretty much sums it up.
I saw an Ele main in PVP forum crying about ranger able to stack protections lol. (By wasting heal skill and bring kitteneless skill called Guard)
Ele is just salty, they generally think that if their profession isn’t godmode then it is garbage.
The drop-off of taking a class over the Ranger is not that bad unless you’re trying to run fully optimized world record breaking speedruns, which 99.99% of the community is not doing. Don’t exaggerate to make it appear that things are worse than they appear.
Here the thing even without being part of those speedruns, the ideas of effectiveness bleed over into the general game, so there is the problem of perception over reality.
Its really weird sometimes how people are mistaking words “needed” with “mandatory” and confuse “not required” with “useless”
in this specific discuss the issue is really noticeable….
It is no worst than the ‘viable’ and ‘optimal’ confusion running rampant in the overall forum community as a whole.
So salty, need popcorn.
This sounds like how the necromancers responded after seeing Mallyx some going so far as to write a signature about how Revenant is proof the developers read the necromancer forums.
I neither like, nor dislike the druid at this point, I am still in the camp that the core profession is still in need of polish.
Also see if the fernhound’s skill Regenerate (the F2) counts toward the refill.
it has pet synergy, though. If you’re casting from range, every time your beam passes through your pet, it gets a bit of HP back. the spinning wisp benefits every melee pet. The entangling vines cleanse conditions.
every support skill can be used on your pet. Just because it doesn’t specify the pet doesn’t mean it’s not useful to Beast Master setups.
I would argue that is base functionality not really pet support. Perhaps if a skill triggered the pets next attack to do a splash heal/cleanse around the pet or created that Cosmic Wisp effect on the pets next attack.
If was during the preview video when Most Dangerous Game was slotted as an adept trait.
If the way they responded to the trait Most Dangerous Game is any indication the only over buffing we will see will come from gross programming errors due to how rushed it was coded.
I just shows how rushed ranger was in the initial development of the game, and it seems that Anet has learned nothing in the last 2 years that is going to show any improvements.
I don’t agree. Reflections are one of the counter-plays for ranged combat right now and it should stay that way. if ranged weapons are weak because of it, then I think we should look elsewhere for fixes.
It’s like revealed for thieves currently. It’s a counterplay for one of their often-used mechanics, and it should stay a counterplay. Espeically since if a trait (for example) ever gets added to ignore reflections, the other traits would have to be darn good for everyone to not always pick that trait
Only retaliation also counter plays ranged combat (especially the multi-focus of the ranger) so perhaps it would be best of projectiles no longer triggered retaliation as a compromise.
I really thought there’d be more of these self-pitying threads today. I’m very disappointed.
You are looking at it incorrectly it just shows the amount of apathy anet has cultivated in the ranger community.

At this point, I don’t even care to much about what druid will bring to the game, I probably will skip the launch weekend and go to some semi local festivals/gathering.
So if Anet read this I can only think of one request, view the history of the ranger’s development and changes from launch then apply that approach to the rest of profession and see what happens.
(edited by Bran.7425)
Of course, this prediction could be completely false and Druid could be amazing…
amazingly bad, or amazing and nerfed into the ground three days later.
So do you think druid is finished and they just want us to accept what they’re giving or is it a ‘we hope it done before launch’?
Morning,
I have just seen that a load of the elite specialisations are having more changes made to them for BW3, this is great!
But… I am concerned about the ranger. I love my ranger and I am really looking forward to Druid. But Rangers have not had much love in the game and I am really worried that it’s going going to have enough time to be tested and improved upon as its being revealed last and will only have 1 BW test. I am worried it’s going to be released with HoT a bit unfinished.
Thoughts?
In before this gets relocated to the ranger subforum.
Please I am begging you don’t make it AI ANET.
Can I have your non account bound stuff?
Question does anyone know if opponent can still use the environmental weapons ‘foraged’ by the porcine family?
Yes they can. As soon as it becomes visible to you the enemy will see it aswell.
I am still amazed that this (dis)functionality made it through alpha, and still exists today, imagine if opponents could pick up conjure weapons how quickly would Anet drop everything to fix that?

Non-thieves think thieves should +1 and avoid combat in PvP (which, last time i checked, was about player vs player COMBAT); it is like: hey you can do raids but you can’t kill bosses.
Devs seem to agree…. el oh el.
Every patch just tells me: hi, we at Anet think you should quit this class and play something else. Tnks, bye.
If the core of GW2 pvp was simply team death match you would have a point, but that is not the case, nor the mode of play they’ve chosen to go with.
That being said, I don’t think the elite specs are as necissary as a lot of people are acting like, people just haven’t learned the tells on the scarier abilities yet so they’re just eating everything. I really don’t think any prof is that bad overall, daredevil and revenant are probably the two id say are the greatest offenders, but that’s because all their high damage kitten has evades on it.
And early in the game they nerfed other abilities prematurely due to the player base not being experienced why stop a time honored tradition just for the sake of new elites/professions.
Somehow I am picturing the utility skills being relabel spirits, kind of like warriors got remade physical skills remade as Rage skills.
Heck you can even add jumping over shockwaves to that list because you dodged it by jumping over it. With a Dodge Roll through it, you would have evaded it.
If you are going to include that then pets can not dodge as they can not jump, but this is just derailing the thread.
Unfortunately Anet has designed to keep the pet as the ranger class mechanice while ignoring that the mechanicreally well suited to the action based combat system that they want for the game and the effort to effect for the ranger player doesn’t feel right.
1) You are not going to get Anet to respond by antagonizing them. Your question is phrased very passive-aggressive.
That isn’t really an issue as Anet in general avoids this subforum so.
Ranger damage is tuned to accommodate having a pet with you 100% of the time. If you look at the ranger’s weapon skill damage in a vacuum, it’s going to be lower across the board than every other profession. This is generally the case with pet based professions in pretty much every MMO ever.
Unfortunately (and likely due to their fear of bots) the pets are nearly never taken to account when they design encounter numerous one will wipe the pet with little or no way of preventing this. I recall someone stating that they (Anet) could not design content around one profession and yet they somehow missed how much reflection trivialized the at launch content (and much of the added as well).
The pet system feels like a rush job and one that no one in the company wants to tackle as it is most likely viewed as a waste of resources.
Anet doesn’t need to remove pets.
They just need to put some “everytime passive” pets, with the only function of buff / debuff.Let’s make a very stupid example, just to explain.
Add a trait (or just an option) to add the “spirit” version of a pet.
Now you have a spirit wolf. He can’t attack, but can:
1) Fear (proper CD)
2) Chill (same)
3) Think something. Maybe a hit could be ok.Of course the spirit pet could be killed. Basically this would give the ranger some utilities in exchange of the dmg output of the pet (that sometimes is zero, like wvw zerg).
The fact that they can be killed is part of the problem. ANet made a combat system based on dodging, and gave rangers a permanent AI companion that cannot dodge. The ‘dodge or die’ mechanics that they are so fond of become ‘sacrifice your pet and do without your class mechanic for the next minute’. Given how well they’ve handled things in the past, I’m surprised that they made such a monumental mistake.
Another problem is that they attached so much utility to pets. This has prevented ranger from being properly balanced, because attaching so much to an AI lowers the skill ceiling in a number of ways. If they had made the class mechanic preparations rather than pets, I believe that rangers might actually have a place in, for example, the WTS.
Pets can dodge, it is called F3 (sure basically only works of you are attacking from Range and the enemy telegraph is long enough.), but Pets technically can dodge the one shot moves.
Not every massive damage attack gives five seconds of warning, you know. Besides, in dungeons your team tends to whine and kick you if you stay at range, plus you do less DPS and can’t share boons. ‘Technically’ they can ‘dodge’, perhaps, but realistically they cannot.
Perhaps it would be a more precise to state that pets can not evade, and leave it at that.
I’m not surprised a Ranger/Druid was absent from the Raid trailer. I didn’t play a Ranger in the last BWE in the new map, so I’m unfamiliar with how pets functioned when you leaped off to glide.
Would suck in that one part where the kill-shot ground stomp if you glided away and your pet was left behind on the land, dies, and your pet cd was on full 48/60 because… well, oversight?
Also pets insta-dying has been in the game for a while when it comes to big encounters or WvW… might of been an oversight back then, now it’s just sad.
Wonder if it keeps you in combat, stops you gliding maybe? Rangers falling to their death in the trailer would be funny.
As far as I know it didn’t, but due to oversight on their part beta rangers only have one pet and during the wyvern fight you had to you the glider to reset your pet as the differing phase of the fight would cause the pet to be unable to attack/path to the wvyern.
Why not trogdor instead?
It makes me think that druid is about as polished as they feel it needs to be and are not really interested in reworking it. But experience has taught the ranger community to have low expectations and then be surprised that they weren’t low enough.
