I wish there was a way to communicate in game with a headset to your party. That would solve the issue right there. But since there isn’t, a third party software is needed for communication. Which is really the issue of LFG sometimes even in a dungeon when you get someone who is new and doesn’t know what they are doing. Hard to explain things out perfectly through typing, or if someone goes down and needs to be rezed and don’t notice in time
So i’m kind of a loner on here cause i don’t like the feeling of being in a big guild. I prefer to adventure often by myself, or with just a single friend. One thing I really love about this game are the dungeons/fractals. I use LFG all the time and just work with those players through the dungeons. But, Raids seem like they’re going to need more coordination,, communication and planning then just “stack here, now stack there. Pull him into the wall,” Kind of deal. So, i’m looking for some peeps to raid with. I have a condition/heal shout warrior almost all ascended, and a Thief half ascended as well, all Assassin Armor. Anyone want to pick me up for a Raid team?
OMG, i just thought. Gaile are there ever going to be guild hall decorations from festivals like the mad king and winters day we could collect for our halls?!? I just thought how awesome that would be!
John, why was paying for armor repairs removed? was that not a good sink for extra gold?
are bags being nerfed at all? or will they supply the same amount of mats as before?
I was going to write a big long angry post about the economy but I feel like it would go better if I just say it in fewer words: This is going to suck for the people who don’t have an inflated wallet. I want ascended gear, I don’t have time to make 1000 gold to pay for said gear, the game is also nerfing me from creating it myself by lower material rates. this isn’t fair to the people who can’t afford it.
Please make a material sink intended for massively wealthy characters, and allow normal people to obtain ascended gear because it will be the standard for raids. The way I suggest it would be to keep our material rates the same. Because those who have hoarded the most are going to make a huge profit right now and then you just have a rich get richer kind of deal going on.
I’m also a little bit agitated right now because yesterday I sold all of my crafting materials so I could get some gold to pay for things to make my ascended gear today, and the price has suddenly skyrocketed to well out of my reach. So I’ll just be sitting here with a long goal ahead of me for Grind wars 2 HoT, and right there my game just got a whole lot less fun, ascendeds were within reach of normal players, now they’re way out of it (and when the changes hit it will be further out of it because then I won’t be able to get the materials for myself to make this.)As a side note, do you guys do this often? have you even seen the yakslapper achievement? is it fun for you guys to put things out of possible reach? This achievement and the one where you DEFEND the yaks, are well out of range for…. anyone, I’m willing to bet that not a single player has this. It seems rather impossible with such low spawn rates and such a high number demanded.
i build my ascended gear without buying anything off the trading post. it takes time, but not impossible.
Howdy John! Any plans to reduce the amount of bolts of silk required for crafting spools of silk weaving thread?
Nope
Omg, this just made me die laughing. thanks for being so good about all the questions John. This is all very interesting. It makes me a little sad, because dungeons and fractals are my thing in this game. I’m really excited for raids, but hope dungeons aren’t nerfed too much.
I’m finding knights armor to be better and better these days. I looked at three different builds with warrior and thought with the new specs knights stats would be perfect no matter what weapon you use as long as you’re using berserk specialization. But on the other hand ranger and guardian could do well with the zealot it seems. I only got to try a few different builds in beta. One was for a warrior where i went soldiers and did decent dmg, then realized i had no crit chance and then say the trait for increased ferocity depending on precision. The other one i tried was thief all assassins gear. So squishy, but the dmg with the staff is pretty crazy though.
Well i don’t now about you guys, but after seeing that ele elite spec, and warhorn skills i pre purchased HoT for myself and my girlfriend.
Karma you have some really awesome points.
This was the kind of thing I was thinking about. My thoughts were that since condition dmg is actually good now, and i wondered if this was changing the way people were doing builds. I know there are die hard Zerk elitists out there who wouldn’t even consider switching to some condi-dmg instead, even if it was more consistent. And granted Zerker does put up sexy numbers. My hope is that when HoT is released we will see some different builds and different armor stats and less people with the thought that only Zerker is the way to go, even tho it does put those sexy numbers up like u said.
I feel some classes like War were pushed further towards Zerk, others are more geared towards condi or celi.
Zerk elitist will be erroneously entrenched into thinking Zerk is best for everything. Try coming at your class with a clear head and then determine what actually works best.
I find it interesting that you said you feel like War was pushed further towards zerk. War seems to be the most versatile class in the game. There seems to be way more options to go with it and still do decent to good dmg
Ok that makes sense. It had always been my belief that raw dmg had been the meta with the philosophy, Kill the enemy faster than the enemy can kill me. I would like to see someone specify one of those condi-builds (as i want to say they exsist)
Hi guys,
I have a simple question today. what do you guys think the meta is right now? is it still Zerker? With the latest builds I find myself moving away from zerker with most of my characters. what are your thoughts?
Is this really happening again? Honestly, this is the price of the expansion. It’s been like this for an easy month now. I’m happy to pay fifty dollars for this expansion, since i’ve played the game just a couple months after launch and it has brought ME much happiness. If you’ve been playing this game since launch, and haven’t paid anything else besides the initial fee to buy the game, I don’t see why fifty dollars is that hard. Every three years you pay fifty dollars for an expansion. That’s less then a dollar fifty per month to play.
Is that strange? I always kinda assumed I would never find one.
Yeah i’m in the same boat as you. I don’t wanna buy one. I want to find one. I went to world bosses day after day, farmed cursed shore, stacks and stacks of bags, people around me getting precursors. Me, just the bags.
If Anet gave slightly better rewards then this is perfect. I was talking to a few people after we beat our Teq and they all agreed that if you got two spoons instead of just one it’d make the event WAY more worth. I’ll be able to get enough spoons to invite my guild over for some soup or chili
I am confused by what you mean. can someone please explain this time gate thing to me as I am curious? Thank you in advance
This was an amazing fight for the group i fought with. We found the “critical spot” and grouped on him melee. It came down to the wire with 30 seconds left. Not a single person knew for sure if we were going to win, and when the whirlpools started dragging us all down, I thought that we too would lose the battle. In a sudden turn of events, a rez banner was dropped by a nobal warrior. The group who stood up from down position ran to Teqs critical spot and landed the last remaining blows while others surfaced from the depths we were pulled down in. There was much cheering, as we all got our spoons. We will never forget you lone warrior! 10/10 would fight that fight again
OP this is the best time of the game. it’s changing and evolving. You’re a part of that change, you can go out and discover things that maybe others haven’t with builds and stats. Things won’t change immediately, but like others have said things will get sorted out and a meta will be found
many people asked for the character slot. i don’t that that is the minimum. the minimum would have been to do nothing.
Business Model Clarification
We want to be clear about our business model for future expansions now that we are approaching our first paid expansion for Guild Wars 2. We believe that to keep the game dynamic and vibrant with a constantly growing community, it should be as easy as possible for new players to get into Guild Wars 2. For Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, we didn’t want the core game’s price to be a factor in a new player’s decision to begin playing Guild Wars 2. In the future, if we release further Guild Wars 2 expansions, we plan to offer all of the prior expansions, the core game, and the latest expansion for one single purchase price.
Ok! You guys keep making the game, I’ll come back in 8 years and buy the battlechest version for one price. You’re not getting $50 out of me every time you release a class.
You’re going to miss out on 8 years of content that will never happen again, just so every three years you don’t have to pay $50? This is not just a class, its more zones, another campaign, and all future events for probably another 3 years. i’ve been through the last 3 years, and I have enjoyed every part of it. But if this is your decision, then i guess i can’t force you.
As we mentioned in several posts on the forums and in various other media, we have been reading and gathering your feedback about the Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns pre-purchase.
Please see this blog post for new information on the Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns pre-purchase.
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts!
Thank you so much for the great news! I now know what i’m getting my girlfriend and I when my overtime paycheck comes in! Anet has just proved to me how great of a company it is. You all took in so many angry comments on the forums, but you didn’t turn away from it, you embraced it and found a way to turn the tide. Thank you again!
I hope Anet could do this for you. Sorry for your loss

I should be a bit more clear: Please don’t take a comment like “we’re reading your thoughts” lightly. That’s truly not a dismissive comment, but one that is intended to let you know that feedback from our forum members and players will be shared with the team as a whole.
In fact, I’ll edit my previous post to make that a bit more visible.
Thank you for posting that Anet sees the distress, and thank you for taking the criticism today. There are many people who feel hurt that the new player seems to get everything for a single price and the old faithful ones, the ones who’ve played since launch must repay for the whole game. Honestly as one of those people i do not care if i had to pay $50 dollars as long as a new player will have to do the same when he or she wants the expansion (IMO)
Honestly I’d buy the thing if it was $40 dollars for just HoT and not the core. So newbs would still have to pay the $50 dollars. i’m buying two, one for me and one for my gf.
You did not read the lfg and didnt meet their requirements, I guarantee it!
In your words, you are a “moron”.If they ask for someone exp and you are not, dont join
If they ask for higher AP than U got, dont join
If they ask for certain profesions U dont use, dont join
Of they ask for anything at all that U dont know, understand or got, dont joinDont get why people got such a hard time with that. Instead they blame the dungeon community because they get kicked, calling it toxic. I have been kicked once because they wanted to play with their friends. Its a reason thats the only time
Read the lfg, or better yet. Just make your own!Begging your pardon Valentine, but what do you not understand about this part of my post:
“even when I make sure the group advert is described as “Doing heart events” or “Join me!” or “Doing Orr events”
Anyway….
There’s no question about whether or not the dungeon community is atrocious, it goes without saying; everyone I talked to in the game, when on the subject of dungeons, says they avoid them because of the community… what’s more is, if they didn’t act kitten, there wouldn’t be 100 threads about it. The topic is the asinine behavior of the dungeon community, has started to leak into the open world (which, I guess was inevitable, unfortunately).
I’ve never have had an issue with the dungeon community in this game. Most people I party with are pretty chill. Maybe you’re a very unlucky fellow. And for open world, I never join a group to do hearts, or POIs. It’s more challenging and rewarding to do that on your own.
So excited for this! This right here makes me really happy!!
Before the price was announced i said that i was part of the problem because i would have bought that expansion no matter the price to keep playing with my guildies. But 50$ and no option to just buy the expansion and none of the other frills? I’m surprised they went so far in that direction to make me a liar because i apparently did have a line and they crossed it.
I feel bad that Anet made you lie. I too was very excited for this. After seeing the guild hall i had been thinking about dedicating $10 a month to the gem store to try and make a great guild hall. but it seems Anet hit us all in the face
“but [influence] will stick around for a while so that guilds can sink the influence they currently have into the new system”
wonder what all we’ll be able to do with influence after we get the new system.
also will small personal guilds (with 1-2 people) be able to claim a guild hall? (I want one to play around with and decorate myself)
I’ve been wondering that as well since i have a guild with my gf, and ik she’d be ecstatic to decorate the hall after we captured it together.

I was really excited to see the pre-order on the website today. Very sad about the cost being higher than expected. I figured even with the new guild halls, the content would not cost over $30 (Mind you i was pretty happy to see the guild halls. Those look awesome!)
Vulnerability doesn’t get a change. Since adding 1% incoming dmg, it was stated that it seemed broken to have 700 stacks of it on a boss. Read the last bit of the article, it goes over what it does now
I’ve never had an issue with any of this. I use my mouse entirely to move my character, even dodge rolling with side buttons. Then i switched the buttons on my keyboard to better be adjusted to pushing ctrl when i need to with my little finger.
This game is not GW. It’s GW2, and yes there has been many changes. I have played both games, and enjoy them both. But I also have issues with both games. For example, Why do I have to have henchmen in GW? Why can’t I fight a mob 1 v 1 like every other MMO i’ve ever played? Anet has created two different MMOs, both have their ups and downs. Not everything is going to be what you want. Find where you belong in the game and have fun doing that.
Kill them then? it takes like 2 seconds…they have no HP…
You’re still getting slowed down. You still have to kill that thing. If it takes 2 second to kill them, what’s the point of even including them? To waste players’ time?
They are part of the environment making it so you can’t just run freely where you want. I like that. You shouldn’t be able to run by everything.
It’s a bug. Do as leslienz suggested; take the items that won’t stack into your inventory. Change maps/relog. Then restack.
Thank you very much. i’ve been trying to figure this out as well
Here are some builds with links to the new build lines. These builds are builds i’m looking at and will try when the new tree lines are out and ready to be used. You can take a look, comment on them, improve them. These are just a few I’ve made, i’m going to be making more. For some people changing their builds with the new system will take time, because they liked the builds they had, and they don’t want it to change. I see options with this system though. Different armor sets being used in the future.
