They could just implement a “I want to duel” Status that you can switch on and off, if you have it off you cannot get invited.

And you’re annoyed by people dueling around you? Im annoyed by people running around on my screen… A-Net should get rid of that !

Granted, just seeing a bunch of other people dueling is a minor concern, but you can’t honestly compare it to people just walking around. Duelists also make noise, and with several duels going on at once all over the city, the cacophony would be insanity inducing.

If I could set a status that prevented the invites, and another to prevent me from hearing all of the grunts, clangs, and “For Great Justice!"s from duels then I’d be OK with that as a compromise with those that want to duel in cities.

So make it only available after you’ve completed your story. And since it’s purely a vanity thing, I’d think they could justify this being only doable via gem purchases. I’ve no doubt they’d make some money if they did that. Same with gender, name, physical characteristics.

Brize, how are you possibly managing to lose money on ports. I’ve never ported anywhere that that didn’t at LEAST net me the few silver I needed for the round trip in drops. Are you just going on sight-seeing trips while avoiding any mobs/content? Just kill a few things along the way and you should be fine.

I’ve only played bards in two MMOs (DAoC and Rift), but they were both near the top of me favorite classes (I had 5 bards in DAoC, including a battle bard that was one of the funnest things I’ve ever played).

No way. Slow travel can be fun the first time or two, but once I’ve seen it a few times, I don’t want to waste hours of my life on waiting to get where I want to be. Even if you’re just suggesting slow travel options in addition to porting, I’d still be resistant as ANet has plenty of better ways of using their time/resources than finding creative ways to kitten me off.

You never have to spend a single copper getting to Lion’s Arch or any other major city.

From ANYWHERE:
– Go to heart of the mists (free)
– Walk 10 paces to the LA portal (free)
– Port to Gate Hub Waypoint (free)
– Walk through any of the 5 portals to the main cities (free).

This takes a little longer, and you have to put up with a couple extra loading screens, but you do have the option to either save a little time or save a little silver.

That’s not to say that I don’t agree that it would be nice to have free ports to major cities (we can already do it, just cut out the middleman crap), just making sure nobody spends more than they have to on travel due to ignorance.

Or, if people were spending less on travel and repairs, they wouldn’t need as much gold, which might make them less likely to buy gold through gems.

I’d like to have the option to hide both feet and hands. Would go well with some of the more barbarian style armors.

Just please never make the chest or pants hideable. I have no issues with nudity, but it would look pretty stupid and be very immersion-breaking to have guilds full of nudists running around, and of course there would be.

I’m am not in favor of anything that makes jumping puzzles any less frustrating. The more kitten off I get, the more my blood pressure spikes, the more I want to murder some puzzle designer, the greater the rush when I finally reach the goal. Don’t take that away from me just because you are a pansy.

This gets my vote. A couple of days ago I lost ~20K karma and 50 dungeon tokens to useless crap while just browsing for potential skins. In my case it wasn’t ANet’s fault (my mouse was flaky and was turning single clicks into double clicks everywhere, not just in-game; has since been fixed), but some kind of confirmation or sell-back would have been very nice to have.

OK, bit of an update to the last post:

I still had my pirate suit in my vault, so I dug it out, put it on, and went to a lowbie zone to let mobs beat on me where nobody else was around. The proc is definitely going off and I’m getting a might buff and hearing “For Great Justice” when it does. Only now, it’s actually a female voice, so that’s at least better. Or was I mis-remembering it being a mans voice before? Might be confusing it with my male warrior who yells it a lot.

At any rate, the proc is working (30 second of might and it stacks if it goes off again in time), it just doesn’t actually yell “Yarr!” which I agree is disappointing.

I wore this set for a while and while I did, I kept hearing a man yell “For Great Justice” while soloing, but when I looked around for the warrior there never was one. I was playing a female elementalist, so I certainly wasn’t using that skill. After that happened a few dozen times I figured that proc must be going off, but playing the wrong audio clip.

Or maybe I’m just hearing voices.

It does NOT take more stuff to make them one at a time. The opposite is true. It takes almost twice as many mats to make a satchel; that’s on top of the insane cost of just getting the satchel recipe. They were intended to require the same amount of mats as making them individually, but someone goofed on the recipes. It’s apparently being looked at.

Bottom line: Do NOT bother with satchels ATM. Even once they’re fixed, they’ll only add a slight amount of storage benefit that you pay out the nose for so they’ll arguable never be worth anything more than suckering people out of hard-earned mats/gold.

I can’t believe the first post is a nitpicking complaint — this is HUGE for my cook.

I was having to have another alt take my bank into their inventory so that the cook could then put his inventory into the bank, and then use his bags for discovery ingredients…what a pain!

I acknowledged that it was beneficial in some circumstances (I have a chef too). But chefs at least had the option to buy more/bigger bags. I simply pointed out a drawback (which we’re now stuck with; no option to get around it) and requested a simple addition that would make everyone happy as not everyone likes the new system.

So I was everyone (you included) to be happy and you call that nit-picking. You want you to be happy and who cares how it affects everyone else. I call that selfish.

I think it’s way better than before, I hated to have to drag all the materials to discover something, and now it’s simple, all the mats are there. If you don’t want to make lower level recipes just ignore the lower level mats. I’m a 400 artificer btw, and it’s great for discovering potions.

I’m sure many like it. That’s why I asked if it could be optional. Just give us a check box; problem solved for everyone.

I don’t think this was nearly as beneficial as so many thought it would be. I love being able to create known recipes directly from the vaults, but when trying to discover new recipes, my discovery window is now full of garbage I don’t want to see in it. I’d actually prefer to just move what I need into my bags before I start and then deposit-all after.

Would it be possible to make this optional? I’d definitely use it for cooking, but just don’t need to see a window filled with every gem in the game when I just want to make one ring.

Since the change, I’ve gotten a grand total of 5 vanilla beans, all from the same plant. I don’t remember where, but I do remember that it was a higher level zone than I’d have expected considering vanilla is used in many low-level recipes.

Glad I stocked up before the change.

I just did a bit more testing. I bought 200 various white cloth armor pieces ranging from lv 70-76 and 4 master salvage kits. I used the master salvage kits on 100 of the pieces and 100 of the charges from my mystic salvage kit. I made sure to divide each level of gear evenly between the two types of salvage kit. The results were uninspiring:

Master salvage kit: 5 items gave gossamer.
Mystic salvage kit: 2 items gave gossamer.

With numbers that low it’s doubtful that the sample size is enough to determine whether there’s actually a difference between the two, but combined with the experience of others it is at least suggestive. And the sample size should be large enough to strongly suggest that neither kit is giving 25% upgraded mats. Maybe level and quality do factor?

These can dry up too. I’d run events with dozens of mobs pouring in, tagging them all (easy with fire/staff ele), and walked away with like 2-3 drops.

I too just bought a character slot and ended up with an extra slot. 7 instead of 6. I did buy at least one during beta if that is a common factor, but I don’t remember how many.

When it says 25% chance to get “rarer materials” it does not mean Tier 6 crafting materials (Gossamer, Orichalcum, etc.). Those are considered common crafting materials and are not affected by the type of salvage kit. When it says rarer materials, it means Glob of Ectoplasm and other rarer crafting materials (i.e. better than white quality). I wouldn’t use Mystic/Master salvage kits on anything less than a green item, for whites and blues I simply use basic salvage kits as they give the exact same chance to get Tier 6 crafting materials, and no chance of giving rarer crafting materials.

Black Lion Kit lists a 10% salvage rate, but it’s actually more like 90% chance, and yes, I do use it frequently.

This would be handy information if verified. You have a source for this?

I seemed to be getting very few rare mats from my mystic salvage kit as well, so I tried a little experiment. I bought a bunch of white lv 70+ daggers and cloth chest pieces from the TP.

Out of 40 daggers I got 1 orichalcum proc; the rest mithril.
Out of 25 vests I got exactly 0 gossamer; the rest silk.

Yeah, random “could” produce streaks like this, but it smells really fishy. Even with a 75% failure rate, getting 25 misses in a row is pretty low odds; worse than 1 in a thousand.

Does level matter? Should anything that would ordinarily give tier 5 mats have the same 25% chance regardless of whether they’re lv 70 or lv 80? Does rarity matter? Could it be that lv 75 whites are meant to be truly worthless?

1. You don’t have to experiment to discover the satchel. It’s a recipe.
2. Not all experiments cost 33 gold.

1. You DO have to experiment (or look up in a guide) to discover the recipe itself. The recipe is created at the mystic forge; you don’t just automatically get it and no vendor sells it (that I know of).

2. That’s right. And the one we were talking about is one of those that doesn’t require 33g. It may cost that much to make the satchel, but not to discover the recipe itself, which is what Cathgar was talking about.

At no point were you and I discussing the OP. You responded to a reply; I responded to that. You’ll get no argument out of me that actually making the satchel would be foolhardy as you can clearly see the material requirements AFTER you’ve bought the recipe, but that’s not what he was talking about.

Experimenting with recipes at the forge is fun; it’s part of the game. How would we even have the the information that people are supposed to research if nobody is willing to try anything?

There’s a difference between trying an instance for the first time without researching it and blowing 33 gold worth of resources on a craftable item.

A) Doesn’t negate the point. Some people want to explore/experiment on their own; following someone else’s guide cheapens the experience.

B) 33 gold!? If you spent 33g on a satchel recipe you are doing it very VERY wrong. Unless you mean that’s the cost of actually making the satchel, but that’s a different matter. Once you have the recipe you can see for yourself that it takes nearly twice the mats to make a set so if you still make one at that point I’d say the extra cost is an idiot/lazy tax. Doesn’t sound like that’s what Cathgar did.

Wasted 50 mystic coins, gold etc on making a satchel recipe. Only to find it was hugely cheaper to make the items individualy after you take into account the required resources + the cost of the recipe.
Also, I didn’t really understand that you would end up with a recipe rather than an actual satchel.

Anet (Andrew McLeod) have said they will look at this, but it’s a bit late for the ones that have already wasted the resources on the recipes for satchels and then made the items individualy due the the higher costs using the satchel recipe.

TBF, you probably should have researched it first. But you have my sympathies.

Should that be the attitude we take for the whole game? Try nothing, explore nothing, never experiment, always consult a wiki, walk-through, or even watch it done on youtube before attempting anything?

Funny, there was a time when that was generally considered cheating. Now it’s expected. Kinda sad.

Read something about they changing the order of “priority” for the F button in cases like thtat or in spots were instead of revive someone you would loot, etc… It was in the updates these days…. Is this still recent?

No! Not this. This is NOT a fix. If there are several mobs sparkling around me, I should not have to count them or slowly hit the F key while checking every time to see if there are still some sparkling. We should be able to either spam a dedicated loot key in a hurry and/or hit a “loot all” key, or (best option IMO) be able to set an auto-loot option. Honestly, what does it add to the game to have to spam the F key to pick up your loot?

My absolute #1 gripe about the UI in this game is that looting doesn’t have it’s own button. I’m already seriously sick of trying to loot a pile of mobs only to unknowingly end up holding a broken bottle and wondering why my attacks aren’t working on the next mob. Or accidentally stopping to revive some trash NPC and spending the next 10 seconds spamming every button on my keyboard trying to stop it while some mob is stomping on my helpless toon.

Seriously, give loot it own button.
