They exist in the lore world they just aren’t show in the game world.

If you hang out by the D.R gates to Queensdale, you’ll hear Seraph talking about the centaurs and their relations to horses.

“Horses are for riding, who would want a pet that can speak?”

If your office is on fire, or pitch black, or filled with giant spiders, it’s probably best to straight out say that you’re not going to make the dead line, rather than waiting to say.

“Ooops this thing that has been happening for a couple of days now, means we will miss the dead line.”

After your self stated deadline has already passed.

They could have let people know Monday when the power went down, yet Twitter still worked.

They could have let people know Tuesday, prior to patch time, rather than it’ll be ‘later than normal’ until it was Wednesday in most (if not all) of Europe.

Would people have moaned about it?

Probably, but they could have found something better to do with their time, than sit around waiting for a patch. After all it took them six hours to finally say “Yeah it’s not coming.”

@Schewe I actually bet some Anet legal guy did exactly that, I suspect in fact there are people who work for Anet, whose job is getting on to other companies to complain, be it the power company, the software companies that supply the office, the suppliers for the canteen. They will have someone whose job it is to call other companies and demand they do their job, they probably threaten legal action or moving business to another supplier.

It’s how companies work.

People are only just picking up on this?

It’s been going on for a long time.

It goes a little like something like this…

Monday, Someone starts buying up all the onions on the TP, hundreds of thousands of them.

Tuesday, A patch comes out that introduces I dunno some sort of Ogre themed collection, part of which is a stack of onions.

Guy/Guys from Monday make a kitten tonne of gold with the new drive to get onions, that they ‘somehow’ knew to buy up before the patch.

It’s pretty happened on every major change, even with no ‘hint’ to the public that something is coming.

The problem isn’t for those that get tickets and scraps. The problem is the people who don’t who want these skins. This decision hurts them.

Really, I understand that it looks frustrating from the get go, and you might think you will never get one. But in the long run this is just nonsense, and it’s not impossible to put in some effort and get these skins regardless of not wanting to spend money.

So it takes a bit more effort than usual, and those who invest money can get it much faster.
It’s like complaining about ascended weapons being account bound. Or HoT Legendaries.

And that all is on top of it being something that is supposed to generate money for ArenaNet either way, and reward those that actually do spend money to get some more reward for their money, if they wish to do so. Which isn’t a bad thing.

It’s basically complaining you don’t want this game to have any further development.

The problem is, it is theoretically possible that no matter the effort you put in, no matter the amount of gold you turn into BLC Keys, no matter the amount of real life money you use to buy said keys, it is possible to never get any scraps or tickets.

What is the drop rate for tickets again, something like five per cent?

Again they’ve removed the none RNG method for getting these, some people are just naturally very unlucky. They could spend from now, until the game shuts down farming gold, turning the gold to keys and never get anything more than level tomes, and material bags from their keys.

Person B has no tickets, person B buys skin from market.

Now….

Person A has ticket, they can not sell this skin. They do not buy it, they still have a ticket.

Person B has no ticket, but wants skin, they must now buy Black Lion Chests.

Are you sure this isn’t a ‘money grab’ Sarah, because if player B wants the skin they now have to buy god knows how many keys to get it, where as they didn’t before.

One more point that game security just brought up:

While your pet is auto-attacking your avatar should be in NO WAY attacking or casting any skill.

Wait so if you’re playing Ranger or Necromancer and you need to run AFK, you have to turn off whatever skill you have on Auto-cast off? Just in case?

Not to be funny but you can control right click a skill and have it auto-cast. No botting needed, no macro’s just what Anet give you.

Pretty sure that doesn’t get counted as an input just as “R running” into a wall won’t let you afk for 30 minutes in WvW though I could be wrong.

You aren’t wrong it’s the max pact commander auto-loot ability that appears to be restarting/turning off the AFK timer.

Essentially the server believes that an AFK player who auto-loots due to that mastery is actually pressing the loot key, and thus restarts the timer.

The problem with punishing people because you believe they are doing it deliberately, is that you must punish everyone no matter how long they actually AFK for.

Say someone is online for eight hours, how can you prove that they set out to AFK farm, and not that they dashed off say to work and left the game thinking it would idle them back to char select then to login?

So at what point of you got loot while you weren’t at your keyboard should you be banned? An hour? Two? Three? The first time it happens? The second? The third?

Instead they should fix the game so that the auto-loot mastery isn’t keeping people online, that way the only people online past the kick off point are people botting.

Edit: The poster before me with that attitude had better hope he never auto-loots while he’s on the toilet, answering the door, the phone etc, because well he would deserve the same ban no?

Edit2:As a roleplayer I can assure you chatting does not in anyway stop the AFK timer, I can’t count the amount of times I’ve had to stop a chat box to spaz around so the yellow warning goes away.

Howsabout you don’t try to exploit the game?

Ahah. No, this isn’t any exploit. ArenaNet designed this game and all its skills and mechanics. Exploit is a bug or game glitch you’re using to further your advantage despite being a violation of the rules.

None of what’s happening here is breaking the rules and we’ve been confirmed many times that it’s not a ban-able offense.

I’m going to be blunt here. What’s going on is that ArenaNet’s system is ineffective at catching real 3rd party apps, and so they have a primitive “catch-all” type of program in place that detects when you’re not really giving a bunch of inputs and yet you’re still in combat and evading the afk timer + earning loot.

We just need to move some of the 70 people from eXpac 2 to designing more effective anti-3rd party identifiers for base game.

Pretty sure it’s a paltry thing for them to see someone moving or using a skill on a regular, inhuman, interval so as to evade the AFK timer.

The reason they don’t have some automated system is specifically because such a system would make it difficult to program such that it catches bots with regularity but doesn’t katamari up heavy grinders along the way.

After nearly 15 years of online gaming it’s been my experience that when someone claims they got banned for behavior that got them false flagged as a bot, what they really mean is they were botting or w/e and got caught.

Not to be funny but you can control right click a skill and have it auto-cast. No botting needed, no macro’s just what Anet give you.

And with inhuman timing it will re-cast each and every time it comes off cool down, and some of these skills? They don’t need a target to trigger.

The problem is the AFK timer hasn’t/isn’t working right.

It’s not “These people are botting to bypass the AFK timer.” it’s “The timer DOES NOT WORK”.

Essentially Anet has a leak in their fuel tank, and rather than fix the leak they are running around putting out fires, trying to look like they are doing something.

Fix the AFK timer and suddenly, no none botting AFK farmers.

What I’m saying is “Anet instead of acting like a pug in a ball pit, how about fixing the game so the only way people can remain on AFK for days on end is to bot, so you can ban them?”

But so many people seem to think the run around reporting method is the way to deal with it, it isn’t the fix needs to come from Anet, preferably without their usual knee jerk reactions.

AFK farming, even without using 3rd-party software, is still a violation of the ToS, and exploit of the game’s systems.

Minion, pet or party member kills a mob while your answering a call of nature? Report and ban.

Heya!

Some of these are AFK for literally 8 hours during the night. That’s a long time to go answer nature’s call!

Even if someone does report someone who has literally just gone AFK for a poo, ArenaNet will know the difference between them and the abusers we’re currently against.

And yet you can’t have a policy of X amount of time because it will become a farce.

“You were banned because you were away X amount of time.”

“Well I have Y disease it takes me more than X amount of time to go to the toilet.”
“My dog got run over and while I was trying to find a vet, Anet banned me.”
“Got up to answer the phone, got knocked out falling down the stairs, and got banned from Guild wars 2 FML”

This entire thing is all Anet’s fault, it is up to them to fix it.

They are fixing it, by suspending violators of the ToS. NONE of the situations you mentioned actually happen, because the game has an automatic inactivity kick (Which they really should fix to kick any lack of keyboard input, instead of counting pet/autoattack inputs)

Likewise if we go “Oh despite you not actually doing anything outside of game mechanics, we’ve decided you’re wrong and we are banning you.”.

When do we go after the people who use the best meta-build in PVP or clever mechanics in it?

When do we go after the people who speed run dungeons?

I’d personally say that people who TM mogul are playing against the spirit of the game, when will they get bans?

I’m fairly sure more than few people would say Roleplayers are playing wrong, when is our ban?

None of those are in violation of the “You must be actively playing” clause of the ToS.

By all accounts it isn’t the pets that are keeping people in game, it’s the auto-loot mastery.

You shouldn’t be banned because your pets are killing stuff while you aren’t at the keyboard or we’d have to delete the entire ranger class.

They introduced a mechanic, the mechanic broke the way they intend the game to be played, THEY Anet need to fix the mechanic.

If people are breaking the ToS by afk-farming then ANY form of AFK progression should be considered breaking the ToS for example being AFK while your party finishes a dungeon, or an event.

It’s typical Anet “Oh no, people are complaining about something on Reddit, let’s not actually fix it but appear to be doing something about it.”.

In the long run they are going to have to fix the whole mastery autoloot refreshes the AFK timer mechanic, because well they can’t ban people for AFK farming because it will get idiotic.

AFK suddenly during an event or dungeon? Report and ban, you’re getting stuff while not at the computer.

Minion, pet or party member kills a mob while your answering a call of nature? Report and ban.

They need to fix the underlying problem, because they can’t have a zero tolerance attitude to a problem caused by their own programing.

However, if only one of them were hacking/botting, isn’t it unfair to ban the other one as well? Imagine a house of room mates that all play the game. If one bots, all of them get banned? Hardly sounds fair.

Person in video is one say they got IP ban. Of course they also say they did not cheat and Gaile prove they did. So I wonder how honest person in video was.

Don’t get me wrong, if both accounts were found and proven to be botting, then both should be banned with no questions.

But only if both were actually botting. Blanketing it with an IP ban wouldn’t be fair to any honest players living in the same household.

So as long at the botter doesn’t bot with their main account, they’re free to bot with their alts?

I once lived in student accommodation, the way the network worked there? If Anet were to ban based on IP, they’d hit a good forty or so people at a time.

Despite having no HP the fight continues, not only does it continue, but because he never reappears to fight, the meta event fails.

He gets a timer to defeat the champion so that an island doesn’t explode, but since the boss doesn’t actually wrap the island, the champion never spawns, but the timer still counts down and progresses the fail state.

Just to point out today I finished the story of HoT without getting the two stupidly grindy masteries required for some of the Hero points, I had all that could be got without tier four or higher grinding, and without a succesfful map wide meta event on the first three maps. And I was still not able to play a Dare devil, because I was lacking grand master traits.

I had essentially completed the game, and still not been able to play thief in a way that wasn’t three years old.

When the patch hits I can play my new thief, in a new way. And my Warrior with world completion can try out berserker without repeating content that I did at the weekend.

My current suggested fix after a weekend of playing.

Elite specialization should cost nothing, they should simply be granted by having bought HoT and being level eighty.

Instead change the Hero points into once per character EXP bursts, giving more EXP the less solo friendly and more mastery locked the hero point is.

This means people can enjoy HoT with the new class functionality, and keeps hero points as something to do, while also lessening the grindy nature of masteries

There is no variety though to get the HoT masteries you do HoT content, the same series of events over and over with slightly different scenery.

What makes it feel so grindy is that they lock the story behind it and lock class functionality behind it.

I don’t mind grinding ten, twenty, thirty million EXP for a fancy looking sword skin.

I do mind grinding out five million to finish a story I started, or more than that to play with new utilities and class functionality.

I’m talking about the masteries though, which… at millions of exp per line… is bordering on Korean grind. And you need to get those out of the way before you can tackle the Hero challenges on the map.

I thought you could get masteries by doing anything that granted exp? If im wrong I apologise and please correct me.

Only in the new zones if you’re wanting to progress towards specializations.

Actually no Metoidvania games are not beloved by all, especially not if they feature too much back tracking, such as requiring stuff from the end of the game to unlock functionality in the start of the game.

For example, having fat frog mastery requirement for hero challenges in the first zone, when said mastery requires traveling to the last zone to get.

When what it unlocks is functionality to play the game, and not a bit of customization, fluff or easter egg?

That is bad design, (and yup I actually have a degree in it so yeah.)

Sure, many people (including me) were initially drawn to GW2 because it marketed itself as being “not another grindy” game. Yes there was some grind involved …notably legendaries… but that didn’t really affect the vast majority of the player base since such gear is merely optional. But now ?

LOL.

Its not exactly grind though as you only have to complete each hero point once. Grind is doing the same content over and over to progress. You just have to do the content on the new maps once time per character, which you would probably be doing anyway right? Otherwise why buy the exp.

Once per character, with several masteries each requiring unlocking at one million points of EXP per level, required to get said hero points.

Yes the mastery grind will eventually be over, but add it to the hero point grind and its just too much when its not unlocking a bit of fluff, but is unlocking functionality for a class.

So you can unlock about everything with just HP you already have back from Tyria ?
How about move your sweet bottom and do dem challanges, its an elite after all.
Show everyone that you are not a lazy bum and you can take a hard hit to the face
because of such demands, elite specs won’t feel elite at all.

We just have to deserve it.

Because it is a CHORE not acomplishment,
and having to do it on EVERY character proves that.
It isnt something like Legendary crafting or anything, since you unlock it on every character.

And it goes like this:

  1. You enter HoT map…unlock some waypoints for THIS character, then walk kilometer to 1 challange, magic happens, then move a kilometer to next challange (which is nothing but walking).
  2. If you die, fail or anything… you must teleport to >>Uncontensted<< Waypoint… which is kilometer away, and then run back to Challange.

And you must do this on Every character … does that sound like fun to you?

Sure you unlock masteries on every character, but process of getting those challanges doesnt change.

Don’t forget that walking to some of these challenges will kill you because you didn’t have a mastery that costs 5million exp to unlock.

Don’t forget that some of these challenges won’t even work for you because you can’t even begin unlocking the right type of frog mastery until you’ve been to the final map.

Honestly these mastery’s are just a reputation grind from WoW just somehow more boring.

My suggestion for improvement, 200 points at most, world completion should grant the elite.

Move the item unlocks to the end, start off with the trait unlocks and then utilities.

After all there is no point in equipping a new weapon if its locking you out of three major traits and two minors.

Turn the Champs into vets on the hero challenges because Anet you have no way of guarantying these zones will remain active once people have grinded the initial rush.

Keep the hero challenges here granting ten points, have them as a quicker, albeit it currently more frustrating alternative to world completion.

Too bad we have some gullible players who can’t tell the difference between “content” and “mindless, easy repetitive gating in order to unlock content”.

If anything, the current gating for specializations is a smoke screen to how little real content HoT has.

Yep this expansion has no content at all. I totally agree man. Smokescreens and mirrors. I agree. You should find a new game to play cause clearly this isn’t the game for you.

To be fair mechanically most of the ‘new’ content is the exact same stuff we’ve been doing before, follow the dorrito around the map, zerg the events.

Only this time we are doing it over and over again so that we can click a hero challenge that’s gated behind 4million exp.

Particularly as you need to do this to play your class in the new way, so yeah the new content is already feeling stale.

By the time I have say daredevil unlocked to the point I can use it, I will have had to repeat content over and over again to unlock masteries to allow me to even touch some of the hero challenges.

And the hero challenges why do so many have to be group challenges, that’s going to make alts hard to unlock elites for. It already takes ages to get people together to do one, what will happen when the newness wears off and the maps are low population?

Not using that thread as proof that drops are linked to accounts, never even claimed that it proved that.

What it does prove however is at least once in the past, when the player base has experienced something off with drops, Anet first told them they were imagining it, that everything was working as intended. It turned out upon investigation that the player bases feelings and concerns on the issue were indeed valid.

Proof that some accounts are lucky?

“Yeah guys turns out not all our loot rules were working right.”

Not applicable since the issue wasn’t tied to specific accounts. Anybody could have been affected by that.

“The rules by which you qualify for credit for an event or for experience when killing a mob are different rules than those used to help determine if you qualify for loot. Some of these were set up to be unintentionally restrictive, and as such you could kill a creature with a lot of health (this was most noticeable on champions) and not qualify for loot, despite qualifying for all other credit.”

It had nothing to do with the individual accounts.

Given that I was using it as an example where Anet has told us one thing, when the truth has been different, so yeah its applicable.

Perhaps Anet didn’t intend for some accounts to be flagged with a higher reward rate, but it does seem suspicious how certain accounts have win streaks that push the boundary of credibility.

When a ‘supposedly random’ computer system starts giving the same account streaks of high rewards, then maybe its time to have a check and make sure the code is working right.

Read the actual thread rather than pick and choose what you want. The issue was that there were two different rule sets for event credit and loot credit. This has absolutely nothing to do with your claim that some accounts are flagged upon creation.

I am going to have to assume that English isn’t your first language, since you can’t grasp the idea of comparing a parties action on two related subjects, when its written quite plainly, so I will try again.

1.Anet said accounts have nothing to do with rewards, lucky accounts are just player perception.

2.Anet also said when people raised the issue that they were not getting drops, that it was just player perception.

They were wrong about 2 when they checked, so since they have never bothered to check 1, how are we supposed to believe them when they say there are no ‘lucky accounts’

I just had a moderately annoying experience. After finishing a dungeon run with a PUG with relative ease, I asked if they wanted to do the next easy path in the dungeon, to which they replied “Kitten you” and immediately kicked me from the party. My guildie, who was running the dungeon with me, laughed when I said I had reported them for verbal abuse. I realize that they were probably joking but it’s so hard to tell via text alone.

Was I being melodramatic? Why do we put up with people like this? To tie this back to the title, I understand that almost a month ago, guild wars 2 went f2p or “free to try” or whatever. Could this be adversly affecting the amazing community (overall) that we have here?

Sorry I dont buy this story. It is either made up or you asked rudely.
No one answers like that when someone asks a simple question. Never seen it done to anyone, ever.

I’ve seen it but then I play LoL which has one of the worst pubescent communities in the world.

Depends if the meta shifts enough that the new content has enough attrition/unavoidable damage that glass cannon needs to fall to one side and a bruiser meta becomes required.

When a ‘supposedly random’ computer system starts giving the same account streaks of high rewards, then maybe its time to have a check and make sure the code is working right.

After all it only took a couple of months of people going ‘Hey we’ve got an issue’ and Anet saying ‘What no there is no issue everything works right’ for them to then go ‘Okay yeah we looked it ain’t working right’.

If one account is getting a constant high reward rate, and another a constantly low reward rate, maybe its worth double checking the code, I mean last time it turned out there was an issue when Anet was sure there wasn’t.

TLDR version

Players “We are having issues with loot drops something is broken”
Anet “No you aren’t!”
Players “We are please check”
Anet “Okay turns out you are.”

Players “Why do some accounts get better/higher rewards than others?”
Anet “No they don’t”
Players “It really seems they are….”
Anet……..

You’ll encounter more bot spam and trolls now that there is no buy in price.

Email addresses are free, so if some one gets banned it takes what five minutes to get a new account back a troll spot?
