Smaller maps means bigger ques and longer waiting periods. When people get home they already have to deal with a 100 man que. This would just make it worse it would also cause issues with squads way pointing to maps if they leave a bigger map and move to a smaller one to help defend a lot of the group may be stuck on the old bl. Theese two reasons will cause more people to not want to play and help further drive the nail in wvws coffin. Also if the maps close if one team up and quits would not be fun especially if you have a hot headed commander that rage quits. That would cause the other people to have to resign up for a map and wait for others to sign up again. This would also be a huge waiting game.
When we changed to the new dessert bls it was a nightmare because they were not properly tested out. It took over a year for the kinks to be worked out and we still have some troubles today. I would rather that we do not get a new bl because it would restart that entire cycle all over again. I also learned the day the new bls released a lot of people hated change and it caused a lot of people to up and quit and never return. WvW is already dying to the point many servers have to merge just to make one regular server. As I see it we cant afford to run of the last few of our player base. All of theese changes would run people off.

3) These new maps should be smaller than the giant DBL and the repetitive BL maps.
4) The new maps can facilitate 20v20v20 for GVGVG action; 30v30v30 for servers, and even 40v40v40 for those that think zerging is actually fun (pro tip: no one thinks this).
5) These new maps should also “be only playable” when a number of players sign up for the map and close when one team just ups and quits. holding a keep 24/7 for a week is not fun at all… there is no reward for doing this other than moving up or down a tier.
6) WvW is fun again but the balance of 70 v 50 v 10 still exists. See item 5 as a possible point to address this.

A FINAL Word: Anet said a year ago that zerging and blobbing was not their intention… that can be addressed with introducing 1) new smaller maps, 2) have maps that require a sign up to open and close the map when the population leaves, and 3) heeding suggestions above and comments below.

ALIBI: The new maps would open close cycle similar to eotm, only with a percentage per team trigger (example: map is 40v40v40 with capture objective and hold it or it becomes neutral. Each team must fill at least 50% queue to open it, map will close if any team has less than 33% active players – in other words, 20 sign up on each team – it opens – later team 1 has 40 people, team 2 35 and team three has been losing and rage quits leaving only 12 active on the map… map warning flashes across screen letting people know that team 3 has left the map and the map will close in 5 min – it will reopen if suddenly in that 5 minutes 28 more suddenly join it to bring the 50% rule up)

I’ve seen epic from local community colleges, ANET, you should hire out interns from local Community Colleges: Pro Tip= interns are unpaid!

A while back ANET said zerging and blob fights was not their intention for WVW but this is the state of affairs currently:
1) Decay timer punishes anyone who defends – Zero reward for them in terms of PiPs or Loot
2) Decay timer punish raomers on DBL… it takes 45 sec just to reach another a\objective and that’s with the +40% move buff
3) Tags are visible to everyone and not just the squad…. thereby, passerbys (not in the squad) 1 apm a few targets and leave, get the benefits of bags and loots, and the periodic flip of a squad working hard, and do no to little work supporting the squad with anything.
4) Objective at tier are impossible to down with 5 ppl since the Defender and gate buffs make it so a zerg of 20 must be on the map to take a t3 keep, during peek and near peek hours.
5) Tag colors are not locked once a tag, per map, has been chosen… a source of confusion when new players arrive and have no idea who to follow after calling out join requests (see item 3 above)
6) Blobs do get keeps but leave no people behind to guard – why would you guard? your are penalized for guarding.
7) If ANET wants to implement a PVP-esque environment and require fast moving and attacking, good on them – a very welcomed idea, but the maps don;t support this decision with objectives being minutes away from each other. Thus items 1 and 2 above come back into play.

Fix this asap ANET. But thank you… WVW is almost a pure joy to play again with many of the new changes

GJ Anet on the new Pip system and skirmish system for WvW… something many of us have been asking for for four years or more. On a side note: What is the chance of adding new maps (e.g. PVP esque but only larger to accomodate 40 man v 40 man v 40 man) ? – why 40, cuz everyone knows the lag is unplayable when its larger than that.

What is known: Dire thieves are everywhere, as are anything that can stealth (DH, MES, RNGR, ENG) and with exception of a guild running, wvw is now a 40 man pvp arena with all stealth.

How to:
1) Allow players to turn on/off open world PvP. It’s OPTIONAL

Who is affected:
No one. PVE players can still do whatever they do and never be affected or ganked because of some PvP flagged player (note: PvE players can block so as not to listen to them and they the PvP mode button is OPTIONAL – it has an on/off selector)

Option to this:
Designate some servers to be purely open world PvP. Imagine the money rolling in to ANET so ppl can xfer to those servers.

I agree with the cost issue and suspect many players who are more akin to faction wvw rather than the model employed by ANET will result in a severe player loss… assuming another company comes along and actually makes a good wvw environment.

My other suggestion is thus:
WHAT WOULD MAKE ME FORGO WVW AND PVP?:

1) Allow players to turn on/off open world PvP.
2) Yes gankers and grief trolls will exists but it is optional ON or OFF.
3) PVE can still do whatever they do and never be affected or ganked because PvE players can block others, and not have their game affected.
4) it’s not a hard or costly code to introduce.
5) if that fails, ANET can also simply make PvP servers thereby letting NO pvp in PvE servers.

This thread points out observed issues and recommendations from WVW players. (And with 10,518 hours played (most of it in pvp and WvW), I might have spoke to more than 5 people … that and no life as well .)

ISSUE 1: Legacy Week long scoring system rewards server groups that can put up 24 hour coverage and to those who can not, it demoralizes the Friday-Sunday WvW players who put in time and have no capacity to fill any remaining hours during the week.
WHAT ANET HAS DONE: Revamped WVW with cross server realms to plus up low population and give low tier someone to play with. (was good improvement but does not fully address issue 1.)
RECOMMENDATION 1: Forget the week long point system, no one cares who is in first place – provide a 24 or 4 hour map scoring system. People like to wvw for a time and feel they did something – they don’t want to put in major effort just to watch it disappear because no OCX or EU players on an NA server (for example) to plus up the shortages.
HOW TO:
- Provide same system of cross server, only make 7 events (1 for each 24hour period) to provide an overall score over the course of a month.
- At the end of the month, REWARD players for their place (whatever loot system you want but make it worth the position they achieved or improved to. Why?
- Because time spent in WVW results in roughly a 40-75% decrease in gold and loots available to pve players (FACT) and…
- It allows those who play on certain days and certain times to GROUP with friends and achieve something rather than joining a map with unknown people, pick-up-groups (PUGs), and/or blob that just roam and kill any momentum or excitement (ie.g they make wvw a grind).

ISSUE 2: There hasn’t been any weekly or WvW tournaments to speak of in roughly 2 years. Hence a preeminent reason why no one cares about place (1st or 16th) or even going to WvW. There is no bang for the buck, no reward for the time, no reason for the season.
WHAT ANET HAS DONE: Promised WvW seasons but, for reasons not fully appreciated or understood by the player community, no Tournaments.
RECOMMENDATION 1: Provide an out of server Tournament Map and allow map to que join to open or player loss to close (no rezzing is one of my favorites but not the community’s).
HOW TO:
- Make a new map (a la ETOM) and create a LFR queuing system to join.
- Use a tried and true WvW(vW) matching system (a la Alterac Valley from WoW) whihc allows players to join a map in their server group. That map will only launch with 75% fill of all three teams (so larger than 40 for the map would be foolish). The map will also announce a closing-in-15-min if one team falls to 33% because one or two teams are making it impossible to win or the game is simply lame for various reasons.
- At the end of the match (tournament), REWARD players for their place (whatever loot system you want but make it worth the position they achieved or improved to.

ISSUE 3: PvP fights are better (because of 5v5 and not 30 v 6). PvP fights are faster and more aggressive because of a point-kill-capture and timer scoring systems – both of which are non existent in WvW.
WHAT ANET HAS DONE: Provided a more robust community in WvW with cross servers but this still does not mitigate the 40 man blob sweeping every tower and keep in 30 min v a server group who is runing 40 people at 10 each map.
RECOMMENDATION 1: None – open to suggestions (my only input is a queing system (see issue 2 above) that keeps WvW active and alive, rather than a zerg grind fest it has truly become.
HOW TO:
- open to suggestions.
- Use a tried and true WvW(vW) matching system (a la Alterac Valley from WoW) whihc allows players to join a map in their server group. That map will only launch with 75% fill of all three teams (so larger than 40 for the map would be foolish). This post was not about thieves… so please stop being offended at the slightest thing. This post was about stealth… DH (via runes), Ranger (via lb and runes and Smokeskale blast), Engineer (blast and pots), Mesmers (Esp Chronophantasm with its 12 clones, 6 sec evade and dodges, target loss). This post is not about being kitten or response to game play, it is entirely about Stealth as a game mechanic and it abuse and exploitable pattern by even the most mundane user with a NAGA or macro mouse. Troll another post but if you can;t help yourself at least stay on topic and stop being petty.

Other than players that use the ANET design, am I the only player that thinks attacking while stealth’d and staying stealth’d is stupid? GW2 is the only MMO where someone can attack from stealth, go back to stealth or stay in it due to kitten poor programing and exploits… do the dev’s even know this.. do they even play anymore?

To your other point @Xenesis, the 24 hour coverage and incentive to defend are two 4 year old problems unaddressed by ANET over thousands of wvw posts. The map open close kills the 24 hour coverage issue where SEA players dominate NA players and all because of some idiotic 24 hour map coverage issue… if a particular map is good, why close it but if its grossly imbalanced, well, my point in leading post.

To the point of incentive to defend: that’s something for another post.. I’ve seen thousands of brilliant and stupid posts on the the incentive issue and defending issue… that is something ANET will have to grow into since their model seems to be: Here is what we are doing… tell us how we did… sucks to be you if you didn’t like it.

EOTM balance issues are because of no map open and close rules… ANET has no team/map population rule to close a map. Anet only opens another overflow when one team has too many on a map… ANET does not address the low pop team, only the high pop team and in the end now you have 2 overflows with one team being giant and of the same server group). Without the map close focus on low pop there is nothing in the game that prevents the 50 man from rampaging all over a 10 man team that can’t even get their keep back.

Please address this proposal:

1) Anet makes 3 WVWVW mega servers (fill each mega server with one team from each tier). They do it for EOTM…

2) Change who is on which mega server after 6 months (example: after a major tournament (wvw tourney))

3) Have DBL, ABL, EBG maps (1 each, that’s it) – 3 maps, no more….

4) Have the map open ONLY when a MAP population queue (queued from the wvw mega servers) meets the thresh hold (example: When @ 75% fill of map capacity, for all three teams, the map opens and stays open until close)

5) Have the map close (with 30 minute warning) when the MAP pop decreases (example: When @ 40% of a team’s map capacity (e.g. map holds 80, but only 30 people are on the map now), the map closes).

INSTANT Balance – addressing the biggest problem: the Blob rule of 50 v 10… in the case above there may still be blobs but you can just leave map and queue for another overflow of the same map because your team is full of quitters and carry-me players.

CONCLUSION: Its just EOTM matching only with map open and close added to address this idiotic 1:5 ratio on the bl’s.

I like the rifle very much, its just too bad that the damage output is so miserably pathetic compared to any other players 1 auto. The rifle is burst, imo, and that is only if you are full zeker and hit with 5 3 4 and grenade utility belt… otherwise, get ready to run cuz the rifle is epicly poor 1v1.

ANET – Why do engineers (and any other profession) not have the ability to target self when throwing an elixir?

Its ridiculous to equip a kit and and any elixir – example of what is making people upset about playing an engineer:

1) Grenade kit <equip it>, spam grenades to your hearts content on another player some 300 to 900 range away
2) While doing that, you throw utility belt grenade barrage for some big damage
3) You are about to go in for the kill with rifle 5, and knock-back stun the guy with rifle 4
4) You toss elixir B utility belt for stability at self <OH NOES.. instead it goes to the enemy player and you’re no where near the elixir… you watch as it hits the ground doing nothing to help you>

You have a fix (albeit all because ANET doe not have a target self button)
a) you turn off snap ground target to eliminate the auto tracking on the target and enable toggle (something no other class has to do) and leave you mouse on yourself – hoping to God you never ever have to move your mouse because…(see b)
b) you madly move your invisible mouse around your screen and hope to find it in time to target where you want it… on self on another person, anywhere except on the enemy player

Look there is so much more and I’m sure the engineer is playable with elixirs… but without Self Targeting ability, you have single-handedly made it so the engineer has to do 100x more than any other player to execute the same level of damage, sustain, or condi clear.

I know you want your game different and supporting casual players but lets consider what right looks like for wvwvw: Altarac Basin, World of Warcraft (A terrible game BUT battlegrounds better than no other for the simple reason of Que to join map, map pop drop, map closes, winning teams get equal participation and losing even get a slap on the butt for, “good try scrub”).

Why doesn’t ANET simply merge all the servers into 3 overarching realms (you do it for EOTM)? … Each realm would be composed of one server from a population tier (using wvw population (or pve if that’s your thing) – example: BG + MAG + SF + SOR… etc (on NA) makes up realm Tyria, for instance. The other 2 realms do the same so the sum of the game is 3 realms (it works for EOTM and everyone that isn’t on a tier 1 or 2 server is in EOTM for wvw (well at least many of the “wvw” players)… They don’t use EOTM as a waiting area.. it is their WVW map.. WHY? Because ITS THE ONLY PLACE THAT TIER 4 and BELOW can play with other people (haven’t you been on a tier 4-8 server ANET and seen you and one other guy are the only people on a Borderland map for hours on end?).

In closing ANET… we all love the game and the efforts of the devs… wouldn’t it be wonderful for the players if you had four, additional, new, EOTM-esque maps for ppl to queue and get their rage on? Imagine.. 4 unique maps… 3 teams (capped at 50 per team so the ppl with not great computers dont get lagged out)… queues spilling into overflows… imagine a world where the only complaint in wvw is: Dear Anet, how come you don’t have skimpy male and female outfits as wvw armor?

Question: Do you ever hear PvP players gripe about population imbalances?

They usually complain about skill or lack thereof… once in a while they forum blast because of of a bug or some AFK issue and it addressed by ANET – thank you for that.

Question: do you ever hear PvE players grip about insufficient numbers for world or local events…

oh yea, but that is solved by joining a PvE guild with times and focus on events or doing what anet did… making Mega Servers. – so thank you for that too.

Question: Do you hear WvW players complain about grossly imbalanced odds on all four maps?

Yes. All the time. So how are you fixing it? 1) Blocking servers from recruiting because they are full thus no WvW guild recruiting. You server merg accounted for server populations and ignored wvw populations… are you kidding?

SOLUTION: think you can do what you did in pvp and pve (e.g. Queues or mega mergers) to wvw? I think so but you won’t. Instead you want to create a handicap scoring fix where points may look closer, buffs may seem like a mediocre player can 1v4, but it never addresses the issue most player on these forums are talking about.
- when you do come on to play and its 1:4 odds near persistently,
- server xfer is impossibly pricey and/or impossible because of full status
- etc, etc.

C’mon, we can surely do better, no?

Let me see if i can clarify in an example of what the ANET has done for 3 years… or not done more precisiely:

EXAMPLE 1: You enter PVP… you wait a couple minute and boom, you’re on a map. its you and one other person, the match starts and they have five. that is anet wvw.

EXAMPLE 2: You enter pvp, its you and four other people, thay have 4 but 3 have gone afk. You win… big ******ing deal. That is anet WVW.

As long as anet refuses to use a map que system where a map will open or close dpeending on its population, ANET WVW will be something for casuals and new ppl who become overly sensitive at the frustration of wvw players.

Think anet…. just think about what you have done and ask why only 20% of you game population is satisfied with WVW and 40% more are in a state of frustration because we hope or imagine that one morning we’ll log and you have fixed the one and only issue that ruins wvw…. utterly imbalance on 80% of your servers. Make WVW que like PVP or make pvp maps to hold 20-40 ppl each team.

PS: Please fire the director or brain power that is behind the decision making for wvw… they are grossly incompetent or placating their boss instead of the players.

WTH? 4 weeks in a row.. DH + FC vs SF+NSP vs EBAY+HOD. You realize that FC is a pve server right? they contiribute 5 ppl per map at any given time? And this week in eotm, AGAIN, you placed all the latin servers with DH, Maguuma, and YB… seriously what in the living hell are you thinking? I’m not mad because we are persistently facin 3:1 to 8:1 odds, i’,m ,mad because I imagined the Devs at ANET actually participated in making hte game good. So i understand your intent… have everyone xfer to tier 1 that wants to wvw, is that about right?

JUST TWO SIMPLE SUGGESTIONS ON HOW ANET CAN FIX WVW:

1) Make WvW leagues.
2) Scale maps

Details: Merge tier 6, 7 and 8 into 3 teams (call them battle groups, globes, whatever, the name is not that important). This rabbit league now has the option to play on the big maps (80×80×80) but everyone knows that they will never fill the maps so now anet makes (OMG here comes work) new maps that are scaled to fit the population. Example: A que option to enter the 1) 80×80×80 maps (traditional Borderlands), 2) a new 40×40×40 map (1 keep only (remove the middle such as hills and bay on Alpine), and a new 20×20×20 map (capture the flag like you tried in Desert maps).

Who wants to bet me that tier 6, 7, and 8 ppl would be superbly enabled top enjoy wvw, and the higher leagues would have a ram packed queu in the 20×20×20 map to have them gvgvg fights people have to make happen in eotm or some obscure area in a borderland map. ANET…. seriously, listen to your players, they love you game, its not hard to make a new map, takes a week with 3 programmers, 1 director, and a month to beta test it. You can do it and make your players happy and not bitter.

PS: You lost 50% of player on Wildstar because the rumor went around during release that the WVW was just like GW2… lurn from your failings and be awesome again.

anet: WHY DO YOU CONTINUE TO MAKE WVW UNBALANCED? For three weeks in a row, since you started this beta, you have maintained that imbalanced servers is fun.

Example: one team in EOTM, for past 3 weeks, has been near permanently undermanned. Bad Lands this week on NA servers with last two weeks, frost reach.
You won;t listen? WHY? you would realize this is an ongoing issue with any servers matched with Yak’s Bend since they don’t EOTM, ever.

This is not just limited to EOTM… you have placed, for 3 weeks, a level 16 server, with a level 11 versus 2 level 9 and 2 level 10? I am trying to not be profane so I can only ask, what are you thinking? Its like you reward 4 servers and punish 2 with zero attempt to balance. You ignore every forum post.

Your only answer is “its difficult”. What is difficult… you make pvp player-fill que and close, but have no such mechanic to balance a wvw map where one server has 60, on every map, one has 40, on every map, and you think one having 12 players on every map is fun?

Who exactly told your developers that a zerg blob sweeping over a single player or objective is fun? Its what wvw has been and continues to be and its insanely boring… no wonder only tier 1 and 2 are the only servers with ppl playing the maps while every tier 3 and below are complaining on your forums.

Is anyone even providing feedback? What exactly is your problem with not making wvw a que-able event like pvp? You are rewarding 15% of all players and punishing the rest.

TOP ISSUE (as heard from players actually playing the game): The 24 hour coverage continues to place low population or unevenly matched teams (e.g. Darkhaven (WVW/PVP server) and Ferguson’s Crossing (PVE server)) at a serious disadvantage.
RECOMMENDATION: Establish EOTM-esque que times where map is limited in duration and scales to the population present (e.g. Team 1 has 40, Team 2 and 35, team 3 has 22 – the map will not start until all teams have met the minimum cap of 80% queued and will close if one team falls below 40% population)… it works in pvp, why not just up the scale of map population?

ISSUE: UPLEVELS are unidentifiable and create rally bots for opposing teams with little to no consequence to gankers and troll players.
RECOMMENDATION: Create UI or color code marker (such as amber for non aggressive (Uplevel) and red for aggressive (80), similar to pve mobs). If killing amber, player loses honor badges. This allows neewbie players and/or uplevels to learn and gain some level of enjoyment in the game instead of being
the victim" of some random ganker who preys on the tail and foolishness of new players.

ISSUE: Complete lack of map management or support staff (e.g. No devs present on maps) resulting in a continued presence of hack-players.
Recommendation: ID some players and give them special reporting tools to ID hackers. The report a player feature is unbelievably poor. Example: I see an enemy player jump 30 feet into the air, land on keep wall, portal in his zerg, and boom, keep flip. My only option is to select player, report for verbal abuse? Botting? Inappropriate name? Seriously?

CONCLUSION: The beta and wvw is fun and rewarding BUT for 3 years players have said, in game, the above items over and over and they go undressed. The coverage issue, the lack of support in game, and frequency of hackers and exploits have made players up and quit wvw or the game entirely. Your fix is available to you if you enjoin players to help players, make your presence felt in wvw, and balance the maps being chief among them. 100 eight year old children, swinging bats randomly while running at and over 7 Mixed Martial Arts World Champions, should not be winning; in the same way, zergs of larger pop servers should not have their way versus lower pop servers at every battle, flip, and point of interest.
