Raid Gear Suggestion

Cavalier.9064

I want to walk through a borderlands or Eternal Battlegrounds portal and be instantly decked out in full-stat armor for the duration of my time within WvW and not just be upleveled to 80, because it shouldn’t be a gear-check, it should be about skill. Just like PvP. I mean, the UI is even in the game!

Also, when I want to do dungeons, I think it should be about skill. As I’m standing at the entrance to Caudecus’ Manor in Queensdale as a level 30, I want to be assured that I’ll be level 80 and fully geared while I’m inside. Just like PvP, everyone should be on equal footing.

Also, I want to be able to do Fractal-level 50 with full AR at level 1. Because skill.

Especially since they say “you” and not “your character” can earn the unique rewards once per week, I’d have to agree with everyone else above me that raid-reward lockouts will very likely be account-wide. I’d also assume rewards would be Account Bound.

They also seem under the delusion that people will do content that gives no rewards.

They don’t mention achievements within the raid instance when discussing rewards, but I’d like to think that there will be some raid achievements that have to do with specific dynamic events within the raid. Since, I’m assuming by their wording, these dynamic events will be different for each of the first handful of times you do the raid, that could provide at least some incentive to maybe do the raid more often than the once-a-week raid-reward lockout.

Leaving the porch light off to play HoT instead of giving trick-o-treaters candy this year. x)

I laughed. Bravo.

IF there IS Halloween content. That is my concern. They are releasing HoT when they would normally release Halloween. There is NO WAY they will do both bc they don’t want to draw any attention from the HoT release.

Firstly, not everyone will have purchased the expansion. The Halloween content, which is generally pretty soloable or small-groupable, allows those who won’t / can’t purchase the expansion something to do.

Plus, let’s be honest, the Halloween content isn’t expansive enough to have players devoting hours upon hours of every day on it. It’s a fun little celebratory distraction, and that’s all it’s really ever meant to be.

We have bright green, light blue, and red glowing-eye “masks” currently, and I would love to see more colors added to that glowing-eyes concept. I personally love them for some of my characters, because they really pop and yet don’t hide our character’s face.

Purple/pink, white, and yellow are the three that immediately come to mind.

I’ll throw my vote into the mix for ArenaNet not to decrease the mob difficulty in Heart of Thorns. Perhaps mob density in the zones, but as mentioned above, some of the issues encountered with this concern will be alleviated by the various masteries.

The mushroom mobs were some of the only persistent issues I had throughout the beta weekend in terms of difficulty, because they bum rush you in large packs that get larger with the spitters — and many times, drag Mordrem Guard mobs along with them — but even that got a little easier as I got used to what each mushroom type throws at you. It just meant I had to adapt, be situationally aware of what was happening around me, and plan accordingly.

Character boost?

Cavalier.9064

Just because World of Warcraft offered a “new player boost” for their WoD expansion — a service, by the way, that they also sell for $60.00 USD in their store — does not mean it’s the best course of action for a game like Guild Wars 2 with a static level cap and a fairly complicated learning curve for new players.

Question: I’ll only be able to pre-purchase HoT on August 7th (maybe the 8th), wich means the beta weekend will have started. Do I get to play even if I pre-purchase during beta time frame?

If it’s anything like the last beta weekend — when we tested an unfinished Revenant and the Stronghold map — you should be able to participate in the beta event with just a slight delay after pre-purchasing the expansion.

I pre-purchased on Saturday morning during the last one, and received my beta character slot and pre-purchase goodies within about two to three minutes.

I never got to play GW1 but the more I read about the lore, the more I want to.

That said, I’m sure we’ll undoubtedly fight against Kralkatorrik, Jormag, Primordus, and the Deep Sea dragon — and explore their respective areas in Tyria — in due time. Let’s just try to handle one Elder Dragon menace at a time, shall we?

I thought big Flying J was out by the freeway… i do see the resemblance as there are quite a few lot lizards out that way… one in particular looked quite large as I drove by last week.

At first glance, I thought you were referring to the road in northern Frostgorge Sound where the Claw of Jormag — the Elder Dragon’s lieutenant — can be fought.

Then I realized you meant something else entirely.

You’re a trucker, I take it? I’d imagine it gets awfully lonely out on the road sometimes.

Whether or not it’s paid content or free, people will be unhappy.

Whether or not classes / races / skills / gear / levels are added, people will be unhappy.

I don’t intend to visit these forums for a few weeks after the announcement has been made, because no matter how excited I am for whatever Heart of Thorns proves to be, some whackjob on here is going to try to ruin it for everyone.

Benefits of making Ascended armor/weapons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cavalier.9064

Cavalier.9064

I thought ascended items are just slightly powerful versions but less than a legendary in some respects. Because of the agony infusion slots they provide they also make for really useful gear in Fractals.

Ascended weapons and Legendary weapons have the same stats, and the same number of Infusion slots, because Legendary weapons are meant to always remain on par with “top tier”, no matter what is added in the future.

Obviously, Ascended armor is primarily meant for high-level Fractal use… but it can also be useful for those who don’t run Fractals but enjoy WvW, as the infusions you can purchase in borderlands give an additional +5 to a stat and an additional 1% damage (and defense, I think?) against guards.

If you’re not into high-level Fractals, though, and don’t care for min-maxing WvW, getting Ascended armor may just not be an appealing goal for you, due to the high cost (time and resources) in crafting it. Exotic armor is a perfectly fine and nearly equivalent alternative.

As meaningless as this kind of thing is in the long run, it interests me that (1st place) GW2 has managed to garner more than twice the number of votes so far as has (3rd place) WoW, and that WoW has earned almost 10x the number of votes as (4th place) ArcheAge. That’s a huge disparity.

Again, pretty meaningless, but it’s still fascinating to see for me. I do think the top three candidates so far are pretty justified, but I don’t think ArcheAge deserves to be “the best of the rest”.

Cavalier.9064

Again just a thought but how about dungeons based on LS1 content? Marionette and toxic tower seem to be perfect bases for this kind of content and would allow some to experience what they might have missed.

Amazing idea, and I absolutely agree. This is what I actually had in mind when I mentioned Fractals based on previous Living World seasons. Much like they did with Mai Trin, Aetherblade, Molten Alliance, and Thaumanova Reactor fractals. Even though they haven’t communicated they are doing so, I’m optimistically hopeful that they intend to do the same for some of the other stuff many folks missed.

Read those and have the game DL’d but the game just feels too basic and typical for my tastes. I was interested in land ownership till I found out how they really boofed the “lower class” players that won’t fork over real money to play. Much prefer how GW2 does things even if I can’t have a private house in DR. :P

ArcheAge is like a neverending train wreck that I just can’t stop watching with rapt interest. A great game at its core, but it is rapidly being destroyed by incompetence and mismanagement by all parties involved. I’m glad I jumped out before that train even got a chance to leave the station.

And a private house in Divinity’s Reach would be ridiculously amazing.

Here’s to the future!

But you cant say there is not enough content. There surely is.

This is my biggest gripe with a LOT of the players posting these “want more content” threads, because they are the exact SAME people who, in the very same breath, say that they don’t PvP, or they don’t like WvW, or they think achievements are dumb, or they avoid the “tedious” Living Story, or they don’t care for Legendary weapons, or they don’t do Fractals or care for Ascended gear, or they don’t bother with armor skin collecting.

My question is, just what the heck are these players looking for in their “content”? If it’s the World of Warcraft experience you’re looking for, then go there, because GW2 is not that, no matter how much or how hard you wish it to be.

I get so discouraged coming to this forum and seeing so many ungrateful and unrealistic “veteran” players talking about how the sky is falling and how GW2 is dying.

The sky isn’t falling, and GW2 is far from dying.

I’ve been playing since launch, I log in nearly every day for hours at a time, and I sometimes spend full weekends in GW2. And I’m still having a blast, no matter what part of the game (Dry Top, Silverwastes, PvP, WvW havok, etc.) I’m doing at any given time.

I enjoy the regular content ArenaNet is providing. I think releasing an expansion might be a good idea, but not at the expense of regularly released content that continues to keep me engaged. I don’t want a level cap increase. I don’t want a gear treadmill. And for the love of Dwayna, no kittening mounts!

Raids would be nice, and additional dungeons (based on the current living story) and Fractals (based on previous living stories) would also be great, but I’m managing expectations so as not to be disappointed when we don’t immediately see them. And by the grace of Kormir, I wish they’d fix the Personal Story that they broke. >_<

But otherwise, I see all these people who are just so dissatisfied, and I have to wonder, is there any possible way of pleasing these folks?

Now, if you want to know what it looks like to see an actual sky falling, go to the ArcheAge forums.

No, most of everybody that wants an expansion wants it to be separate from living story. Were not talking about a past tense “what if” scenario. We’re talking about the future. Also most of everyone thats against the expansion are the same folk who dont want to buy one.

Again, it all comes down to resources. Does ArenaNet currently have the resources to churn out bi-weekly content updates (as they are more or less doing now) -AND- work on releasing an expansion? If some of their reviews on Glassdoor are to be taken with anything more than a grain of salt, I’d be hesistant to say they do.

What people really mean when they say “expansion” is “new classes, skills, weapon types, and professions”, which we’re not really getting to any satisfying degree.

The question then becomes, are new classes, skills, weapon types, or professions (assuming you mean crafting) really that important to people’s overall enjoyment of the game? What about those veterans who couldn’t give a rat’s spit about other classes, or weapon types, or professions, because they main a specific character and are happy with how they’ve built it? And where do new classes / weapon types fit into the existing game? When you say “new class”, what do you mean? What’s fundamentally missing about the classes we have now (besides the obvious lack of a third heavy armor wearer)?

And, hypothetically speaking, once they’ve added those new things, then who’s to say that 12 months, 18 months, 24 months from now, people won’t be clamoring for even more new classes or weapons or skills, and then more beyond that, until the entire game starts becoming a bloated, convoluted mess right from character creation?

There’s a reason AION plans on going back to basics and giving its players a more vanilla-esque experience again. Class / weapon / skill bloat is bad.

I do agree that it would be NICE to see a fully realized, immersive full-size set of zones being released, in regions like Cantha or Elona, that have heart quests and vistas and jumping puzzles and interesting dynamic events that require thought and planning over the current zerg mentality. But those things take time and resources, the latter of which I’m not altogether certain ArenaNet has any extra at the moment.

Many players don’t consider LS to be real content. It’s sole purpose is to drive gem sales.

What do these players consider “real content” then?

If they can’t answer that in concrete terms, within the framework of GW2’s existing basic foundation, then they’re adding nothing to the conversation.

Remember the rage when Arena.net added ONE tier of gear? Try selling those people on the traditional raid model that was the backbone of WoW expansion content.

And it’s not just WoW. The same model is being (or has been) used for a bunch of other MMO’s, as well. Increase the level cap, increase the gear progression, increase the number of zones (to accommodate the level increase), maybe add a new class, or a new race, or both.

Much of that just won’t work with GW2, though. Either because the foundation of the game was so strong to begin with, or because a wide margin of our playerbase just don’t want this game to go that route.

So I’m really curious, and I’m only partially trying to rile the hornet’s nest here…

What specific content does everyone feel ArenaNet should include in an expansion?

Remember that a wide majority of those who participate on this forum do not want any level increase or gear “treadmill” progression, so you should probably consider these concepts off the table. And raids are currently being discussed in a CDI, so you should probably consider this is something they’d already add.

In order to do an expansion — if one is not currently in the pipeline already — it can be safely assumed that ArenaNet must do one of two things. They must either 1) allocate their current developer staff to work solely on an expansion, or 2) they must hire additional staff to work solely on an expansion while current developers continue providing regular content (or vice-versa).

This is problematic.

If they choose to allocate their current development team to working on an expansion exclusively, then very little to no new content will be released until the expansion is completed. Let’s assume 6 months to a year for this to occur. That’s an awful lot of players who will simply be bored out of their skulls and quit until an expansion arrives. Ergo, that’s an awful lot of players who, by default, won’t be purchasing anything from the marketplace and therefore, won’t be helping to fund ArenaNet’s day-to-day operations.

So that leaves hiring an entire development staff to work on an expansion while current staff works on continuing to provide regular content (or vice-versa). But is this feasible? I don’t know, I’m not in ArenaNet’s finance and payroll departments.

I just feel like, at this point, it’s a lose-lose situation for ArenaNet. Either keep staff numbers the same and re-allocate resources at the risk of losing money (players), or spend more money now on the hope that an expansion would allow you to recoup.

The two opposing servers you go against only see you in a monochromatic version of the most basic gear-set, in order to diminish lag in high population encounters that often occur there.

Only the players on your own team (server) will see you in all that grinded PvE gear, and it won’t matter to them because it’s the same set everyone else is rocking.

You can get like 15sp per wvw reset.

I’m not sure I agree with this statement.

If you are referring to the Skill Point Challenges on the three Borderlands maps (3 in each) and the 4 in the Eternal Battlegrounds map (for a WvW total of 13, not 15), those are static and do not reset. Once you complete them, they remain completed, just as they do in the world map. (???)

The chests you can acquire from doing the jumping puzzles, however, do reset each day with the WvW match-up resets (although you can only get the achievements once).

EDIT: I must have missed where multiple folks seem to be saying the same thing. If you can indeed get fresh skill points from the Skill Point Challenges after each WvW reset, is this intended? It doesn’t make sense to me that you should be able to obtain skill points from already-completed Skill Point Challenges, since the Borderlands are static maps that just change names with each reset but retain all other aspects about them.

Dungeons are great, Anet - Don't nerf them!!!

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Cavalier.9064

Cavalier.9064

I think my main question is this… are those advocating for dungeon difficulty nerfs in this thread talking about Explorable Modes, or are they talking about Story Modes?

In my honest opinion, Story Modes really ought to be re-tweaked, so that anyone competent (casual and hardcore alike) can complete and enjoy the content for what it’s meant to be, a pathway along a storyline. Right now, even Story Modes seem to require deft acrobatics and a hardcore-player mentality to get through them.

However, Explorable Modes should NOT be nerfed, and in truth, some of them (you know which ones, since you probably have several pieces of that dungeon’s prestige gear already) should be appropriately brought more in line with the others.

Right now, Story Modes are turning a lot of people off to dungeons altogether due to their difficulty. It shouldn’t be like this. Casual players are feeling terribly cheated, and it’s causing a knee-jerk reaction from the hardcore players who think that their content (Explorable Modes) will get hit with nerfs, too.

I feel like I’m watching an election debate, and it’s not even October yet.
