I love the idea of an infinite dungeon design. But anyone should be able to go in at the highest level anyone is in the group and not the lowest. Then once complete everyone moves up one level to where they were prior to joining.
Player 1 – Level 5
Player 2 – Level 5
Player 3 – Level 3
Player 4 – Level 3
Player 5 – Level 1
Team Decides to play Level 5
After completion of Level 5
Player 1 – Level 6
Player 2 – Level 6
Player 3 – Level 4
Player 4 – Level 4
Player 5 – Level 2
That way you can’t power level someone from say 1 to 5 in one run, but they can be in a group running higher content then their level. Everyone just moves up one natural level.
“They have a real quality control problem with GW2 that was a non-issue in GW1.”
This game is an enigma with me how I really like things I previously hated in MMO’s (open world questing) and don’t like things in GW2 that I’ve enjoyed in other MMO’s. (dungeon instances)
But what you say has still been the most glaring issue since the first beta with me. It’s like two different companies. GW1 was the kitten when it came to execution.
Is this Kripke from Big Bang?
Reading Da Vinci Code: 5 hours
I wish I could read that fast, I would be a lot smarter.
Just playing every single day of any amount is pretty hardcore, that means something is dominating your life, good or bad.
$1100. Yes really.
The game I won’t mentioned, kept emailing me telling me my account is doing illegal activities in game. The problem is I hadn’t been in that game I won’t mention for years and my credit card isn’t paying for it. So I wonder what in nine hells is going on with that company and their game I won’t mention? Seems they got some internal issues going on over there.
Will this laptop be good enough for Guild Wars 2?

It will run, however I wouldn’t recommend anything under a quad core, it’s very noticeable in this game. I have both types to know, to state this. I would expect a lot of 20’ish FPS with a Dual core.

If that is the way they test it would really be bad for me. I cant do the shooting and find the target while reading chat. I have a disability
Just playing along here.
At this time I do not have a disability and could easily miss anything in chat. It’s so infrequent in this game I rarely look to it. I only group when I play and we are on a voip, again no reason to have to look at the dead chat area.
If they are putting out an announcement to you that will be this official. They need to make it LARGE in the middle of your screen, with a sound etc. Something that cannot be missed. They also have to account for being AFK to. Last time I checked it’s not a banable offense being AFK.
Why do you need to know ahead of time?
It’s standard practice in almost every other mmo I have played
Not the one’s I have. Typically at the same time or a slightly after, like this game.
But why do we need them now? Futures trading.
combat movement speed makes jumping puzzles with enemies and hazards more annoying than enjoyable.
Sort of like an episode of your favorite drama series. You know the guy they got at a 1/4 after isn’t going to be the one and you won’t know until 5 towards the hour. The rest is more annoying then enjoyable, know?
Face it Huggy Bear has it right:
“And like I say, why go to the starting line
when you can go straight to the finish?”
I think the OP is just wondering if this game is getting a large feature that GW1 had, no more:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_versus_Guild
They also had World Championships around said feature. To me I find a little revisionists history in the whole Guild Wars doesn’t really mean Guild Wars. I know when GW1 wasn’t even released how they always talked about that singular feature being a very key one, if not the most key one. PvE was a trainer towards PvP and GvG being the ultimate as they dreamed of e-sport. Then well, stories start evolving once ya know…

FWIW, those that were unfairly banned and got reinstated. Are they offering you something in return? Pretty much any other game that has had issue like this, people have been compensated in some manner. Just how the world works.
Use at your own risk is the safest answer. Reading their replies (they won’t answer your question directly), it sounds safe. But it will be their discretion if they choose, they would also have to program on their end how to figure this out.
In my case I do use it, if I get banned, first I’ll try to get that turned, but if not, it then becomes simple consumer steps, I wouldn’t buy anymore anet products again. No real hate just what would have to be done. Right or wrong.
For example, I’m done with Blizzard games, I played WoW for a while, but years after I was long gone I would continue to get emails that my account has been hacked and has suspicious activities. My first thing is and how are they playing since my credit card surely isn’t being pinged a monthly? But when rubber hit the road, I went to try out the Diablo 3 beta, I went to log in, my account was suspended as the emails suggested. I went to clear it, sounded like it would be a week to clear it up from their end. I told them don’t bother, they don’t understand this is a GAME to me. I’m not going to jump through hoops like this for a game and their heavy handed policies will not just affect WoW for me, but everything else they offer. Now they don’t care, the person I’m speaking to is not affected at all and working on a contractors wage as Blizzard farms out support to the lowest bidder. But this is just they way I am, if it were a car wreck and I’m working with insurance that is when I’m hoop jumping. But a game? No, I’m not going to deal with hours of my time on something that had absolute zero to do with me, I’ve been gone for years, I have to monitor my dead account from future hacks? Please child.
So you have to know how conservative you are about your account I reckon.

I used to think that people were just whining about Anets policies, but now after having experienced their justice system myself I understand them. I was given 1 minute to respond to 1 whisper from a total stranger before I was banned. I wonder how many other people have been banned because they do not return whispers from total strangers.
I’ve learned over the years on forums, once enough people state something in a manner like this, it’s pretty much true. People that aren’t affected protect the brand and semi-attack the victims, which is an additional low blow to those affected. Let Anet respond and defend the game and actions, us on the outside have no real clue.
Because once it happens to you, all you want is the same answers they wanted, without all the other jive. The best example of this ever is still the 3 RROD on the 360, early crashers were accused of everything under the sun, unfairly.
Live and learn how these things carry over from game to game in forums…
That said, at this point those that did bot, they will try to blend in with the crowd and confuse the process, it’s not like they will tell anet the truth. Anet needs a system where they can go directly to a player(s) that they have on the radar and have the camera monitor them and simply verify. A good start is getting the grouped bot’ers out of the game first, those with names like “fduiriuf” and there are several of them and they are all always doing the same exact thing in unison, very easy to spot if seen. Work on those first, then go after single player bot’ers, but that’s me, probably a little more to it. Perhaps they have, I really haven’t seen the problem where I’m at lately, perhaps they are on the single rouge bot’ers out there. There just has to be a fairly easy way to make sure someone is really controlling the toon or not.

I thought “awesome” when I first say the orientation of your tri-screen. But then looking it over, the sum of the parts look no more then standard widescreen dims. So I would think instead of what you have a 37" or 42" monitor does the same thing without the monitor frames interfering at 33 and 66% horizontal. Just sayin.
I wish I had 5K for a pc, I could then have 5 awesome gaming pc’s.
This must be the first MMO you’ve ever played…this game, while mildly entertaining is far from the best at anything to be honest, no matter which way you look at it, there is nothing this game does better than any other MMO.
I think world venturing is superior to any other mmo I’ve played. The way they move you along, how they present it, how people can come together and get fair credit for a goal imo does make a real difference. I do look forward to 100% map completion. Typically I don’t like mmo world venturing, generic as can be, so it was how immersive and fun their instances were and those games are rare to. There isn’t that many good mmo’s out there imo. GW2 open world is way ahead of anything else, spawn rates really the only real nit-pick I have.
Give me GW2 Open World and DDO’s Instances and you have the giant killer everyone has talked about like the 80’s Great White Hope.

Just think if Dynamic Events were really dynamic, that would make them one-timers.
That is what people wanted from their DE’s. But (In Jeff Goldbloom’s voice) would they then find out they were missing something only others saw and feel they were short changed? Going by feedback here, yes!
So that is what I’m reading. We ask for live developer events in mmo’s as a dream feature, but when they happen (next to never) you are always going to have people that will miss it. If you are going to complain about it, then just assume you will always have to go collect 10 boar kitten and return to Elma so she can make stew for her sick uncle quests. Because that is all you deserve.
I hear Macy’s has a sale going on soon at their stores only, how can this be? I cannot make it.
All these ideas are neat and I´d like to have them too, but they have one big problem.
It takes valuable developer time to implement, which is always missing.
Right. There are always a few options the players can dream up. But we have no idea what kind of concern they have about this at all and then what they would or even can do about it now.
But that is all part of forums, players dreaming and playing fantasy Game Developer.
Thinking out of the box, force inmates nationwide to play GW2. And force them into low pop zones.
I have but just a few hours of playing solo, so I am always socializing, just with those in my guild. I do throw out little lines semi-often after a good win by a group of unknowns. It is a prayer sent out there that could lead to something, but almost all the time it goes without any reply back. Ok, I’m still socializing with my little bandito’s, no need yo’s. Totally ok either way.
I expect many people here like video games, you really need to seek out gaming buddies outside of even GW’s 2. You can build lifetime friends to play with and never see the silence that seemingly bothers you.
By the way, I’m socializing with the players, being here posting. However big-brother likes to show their heavy hand which is an example of them thwarting social behavior. I never have before, but I don’t feel safe either, between the lines.
(edited by CelticWish.2314)
Lose social interaction? The one that many others says already doesn’t exist?
Can’t we see the double edge here?
In some ways “it could hinder social things”, however it also “can enhance social things” by grouping people up that can’t get a group going today.
No one knows for certain in a game called GW’s 2 how exactly it will help or hurt. I have always been in favor of one. Social is what you make of it, if you want it, you can seek it out, that in itself is part of being social. You can’t be an introvert and then complain about not enough social if you aren’t doing your part. Takes two to tango.
If you really want and need socialization, then you need to seek it out and get in guilds etc. Just bumming around expecting it isn’t taking action into your own hands and then you are just expecting it to happen. Think of those that are running around not affiliated are playing the way they want to.
The Earth is an open world, some do public events to socialize, some stay in their own world and do their hobbies anonymously. Where is the public outcry to get more out into local events? Now can a game steer more socialization? Yes, but probably by making the game harder to have to force grouping, then you would have the other side B&M’ing. Solo players are big money.
What I want to know is why women are creating male characters in game?
Lots of wah here it seems.
This is where the paying customer fails. People have been asking for unique in game events for MMO’s for going on 10 years now. Something fresh and different we say. Time after time this request has been asked by the player base. Rarely delivered and a few that tried it’s been a slide show.
So what happens? A dev steps up to give us these events that even work and now we have to read how you cannot be there and you shouldn’t have to give up life to play a game. There is no single time everyone will ever be able to be in game, 10’s of thousands will always have something more important going on, while 10’s of thousands will be able to make a particular event.
Do we not think these things out? We ask for it, doesn’t mean they will email me personally with a date/time that fits my needs. As you say you have more important things in real life, well great, you should. But don’t bag on the game, don’t ruin it for the rest of us that can make it this time. You complain enough they’ll just say “Why do we even do this?” and then give you the same static mmo you’ve been fed for the same 10 years and then you’ll be somewhere else asking for special events in your mmo because they would be unique and fresh.
Ah the cycle of __________ continues.
Does anybody else feel like DE's to get your daily feel more like chores?
Posted by: CelticWish.2314
I understand I have 24 hours to find 5 events on any character But sometimes I have a bit less than an hour to play for the day, and I can run all around an entire zone and not find even one event.
Not trying to be smart, but maybe dailies should take more than an hour to complete.
Love the “vocal minority card” being played.
One of the greatest things one can do for their careers is simply “show up”. One can say the entire world we live in is run by the vocal minority. Well I guess the majority needs to SHOW UP and SAY SOMETHING, in more mass than the minority. Until then the minority is the majority and the rest is urban legend or of the same value.
Every dungeon takes about 40 minutes with three people. No Guild Wars game has ever been challenging.
For me there has been plenty of challenging GW content over the years. It’s relative.
You guys want to see brain-dead easy PvE, go download C9, embarrassing. The game is known for awesome PvP, but they could have at least allowed the E to fight back and not dance.
The problem with dynamic events is that once you outlevel particular area there is simply no point in doing them unless you want karma and for that you can still do lvl 80 events.
Or you want to be a completionist and want to see everything the world offers, that is me fwiw. My end game is making it through all the content and not re-running content unless it is PvP. I can say that about all my mmo’s. There are a few different kinds of players who play for different reasons. Playing an Alt is also a possibility of the content was fun and the alts unique.
In DDO the top players race to top-level, reincarnate (which is an amazing option for gamers like that) so they are a little stronger when they max out that next life, then reincarnate again for that additional tick of greatness. As they do that they are also grinding for top loot and the game is built to take massive time and money to get the absolute best of everything. Takes X of this to get one piece. To get X you have to run this area/series of quests X amount of times in hopes for a random drop you need. That is your A-Typical End Game for a MMO, that and PvP.
There players have a map on how to run the quests to get from 1 to 25. They play a fraction of the overall content. In my case I play every quest the game offers at least once. Different folks, to me that way, I never see a grind.
I go through the content, don’t grind, go to the next game, repeat. Will return to previous game if I enjoyed it and they added a lot of content features since I last played.
“Socialism doesn’t work in real life nor in a game. This needs to be reworked to reward the productive and not the lazy.”
Socialism doesn’t work? Every single govt in existence has socialism within it, some more or less then others. Think of socialism as a power buyer for the masses. Roads for example would be whack if they were all different. Last time I checked making roads not equal lazy either. I say a logical mix of the “big two” makes the most sense and wala… that is what most countries have.
What’s the difference between a PUG found through a dungeon finder, and a PUG found by spamming map chat? Oh that’s right. None.
Stop pretending WoW’s dungeon issues had anything to do with the finder rather than typical MMO fatigue.
Correct. Don’t be a LFG tool hater.
I was happy with gw2 suppressing the trinity because it was definitely easing the group formation, but this problem kind of negates all the benefits.
And Bingo was his name-o.
Thank you for the clarification.
CHOAM Is Quick Glyph, Glyph Mastery?
We ask because here was the formula given above:
Healing glyph+quick glyphs trait+glyph mastery trait=perma 33%ms
It has both Quick and Mastery as seperate, I too cannot find Mastery and I’m interested in Perma 33%.
This is how you farm karma, hit a few mobs, run to the next event. Meanwhile you get gold(aka, max karma) even though you did almost nothing compared to the people who do the work. It’s lame, but ultimately It’s the most effective way to get it.
To me is seems like the best way to farm karma is to do the daily achievement and drink a jug worth 1000’s of karma at once. But I do agree, why not make Gold more difficult to achieve? It’s not like if you don’t get gold that you get absolutely nothing. If everyone is special, no one is special. Vince Vaugn.
Doesn’t most server still say high pop? If so is it a lie or is everyone doing WvWvW? But then isn’t there a rather shallow limit of how many people that can do WvWvW at a time? Not understanding the math here.
The next amazing loot I get from GW’s 2 will be the first. The game simply doesn’t subscribe to it. Not that I overly agree that their choice is best, but I know it, deal with it and sleep well at night. This was one of those things that people loved or hated GW 1 about, same for 2.
So is it a no to a Voting Day event?
I’m curious, does Tyria magically have the same holidays at the same time the country known as the United States does?
Also +1 to the event vs other events in the genre.
If this is indicative of what to expect for content updates in terms of timelines and quantity, yipee! That alone is a core need MMO players have been asking for since the start. Only a couple games come anywhere close to timely content and after doing the MMO thing for a while now myself, it becomes dead obvious developing rapid content tools to make timely content after release should be a HUGE part of a mmo’s plan, almost all fail hard here. You would think with the hundreds that have been released, still being released and in planning, almost none seem to consider this important part.
It comes down to how many people Anet wants to make happy.
The best way is difficulty settings if the goal is maximum player happiness.
No one here is wrong.
Some have the skills, the desire, the team to want the hardest settings possible, it’s an achievement in itself.
Some have limited skills, time, team finding and just want to enjoy the content. I for one am just a wee bit above avg, but play with some that will never be average. The depth of understanding they need just isn’t in them to find out, but they like playing and hitting the buttons, seeing the views. I would rather play with them then seek a uber group, that is my choice.
DDO does do it well, with several choices, the harder choices give you better loot/gold etc.
I play with the same group in both, in DDO we move up and down the ladder between Normal – Elite as needed. Each mission can vary, they also have the jumping puzzles and other types of puzzles that challenge different parts of the player, so we move around in the slider mission to mission. But in the end we find our happy place with the mission, get through it (less a few that are made by evil people) and are satisfied in doing so. To me that is success.
I do sort of expect that this will come in time.
OR… That they said in so many words, “There is a lot of work being done to Dungeons”. So I do expect changes based on that bit of intel.

I do have “enable x-fire in game” checked and it is working.
I have disabled video and broadcast.
Ok, I circled back to my dads he had both those options on and his would crash. I unchecked both video and broadcast, his no longer crashes. I haven’t seen which of those two are the culprit. But tiddly winks from there.
I run Window/Full. In a post of mine above, if you are asking me for setting, I have a link to my settings.txt file. (near the top of this page)
(edited by CelticWish.2314)
This is something they carried over from GW1 to GW2, loot isn’t a point of concern to the player. That is why some people loved GW1 and why some people left and disliked GW1. A lot of people in general even if they complain against it sometimes, like to be rewarded at the end of doing X and it must be worth the time. Almost all mmo’s live by this.
Since most do, I suspect GW2 will not, a hunch. They do things to stand out from others, good or bad, eye of the beholder.
Is there an official word from Anet about SweetFXAA, and whether or not it could get you banned? Would really like to try it but I want to make 100% sure it’s allowed.
Remember they are a corporation they don’t answer things like this directly, they have their policy and that will be it. If you are worried, do not use it. I say this as straight up, no bs advice.
MMO rule #3:
Any time there is an instance. There needs to be difficulty choices and adjusted XP/Loot for choosing an higher difficulty.
There is no possible way to please everyone with one difficulty setting for instances. Not possible.
We can only hope that in the future there will be a way to choose between a few skills for each weapon skill.
For example GreatSword Weapong, Skill 2:
Today: Rip and Tear (for non-real example)
Tomorrow: A choice of Rip and Tear, Dynamo or Lighting Stab for skill 2.
You can then do this with any 1-5 skill. They give you a multiple choice of what you can put there, but still limit you.
I hope so anyway, it would be a mix somewhere between what we have now and GW1.
Then add in more utilities and Elites.
To the person that said GW’s took years to get the skills in to make it dynamic. It shipped with enough to make it very dynamic from the start. They added more, that was great but didn’t change the core mechanic at all.
When you see:
iohgioghioegh
oergioeriogr
rgioerogijroijg
Always in the same places ghosting one another doing the same thing… That’s a bot.
But the suggestion here, could easily be dealt with by bot’ers
CelticWish, you’re wrong. First of all, the HDR SweetFX includes isn’t technically HDR, it just attempts to mimic HDR.
Second, I can assure you that SMAA+HDR is visually different than HDR w/o SMAA. Zoom in closely on an herb leaf and you will notice that it is much more jagged w/o SMAA than with (even with HDR enabled).
On my Nvidia card having both on is like not having AA. The best place to see it is in the char selection screen. Turn only AA on startup, smooth edges. Then turn HDR on as well, then refresh. To me all the jaggies are back like AA being off. Perhaps it’s the components on my rig, I shouldn’t speak for all setups.
Any setting with Antialiasing and HDR set to 1 is a confused setting, which is most here. It negates AA. Try it. Scroll Lock toggle before after. One of the main if not the main feature of the injector is SMAA over FXAA. HDR=1 means you just lost SMAA.
This whole event to me seems more epic then any other event I’ve seen in a game. This is a part of the event. It takes some very good jumping skills, I will probably not get through it, but that is okay. It is what it is, I don’t have to have everything cater to my exact needs and skills. This to me is showing how round the game is, in real life there is plenty I can fail at as well. If many enjoyed it, to me it’s a success. No reason for us who can’t, bring everything down.
I think the golden rule to be wary of here is:
Don’t let one person ruin it for the rest of us.
For the same reasons all other MMOs have a crowd of negative people in their forums.
Some of it is also customer feedback. Face it many of us are experts in gaming as we’ve been doing it forever and a day. So most can’t help but compare games and critique.
I used to never drink wine, then I started working in the industry. After a while, once you start drinking enough brands and varietals you can’t help but start judging them. This is better then that and the reasons why.
So most of us have played hundreds of games, this is what happens. I like what the person above stated, if I really didn’t like the game, I’d come here once at most and be far far gone. To me it seems reading forums is a skill itself, you need to take all your experience and add that filter to what you read and how it really all applies.
