Game-breaking issue with pet AI

One big issue that Anet has never even addressed and that has to do with pet AI is that when a pet is chasing a player or mob, it has to move and then stop and then attack and then catch up again and then attack etc etc. This makes a pet’s attack speed basically useless because it doesn’t continuously keep attacking and keeping up with the target. The AI works in a way that the damage output is already minimal if the target is constantly moving and this added to the huge pet damage nerfs makes a beastmaster Ranger utterly useless in terms of damage output.

I feel like if this AI problem were to be fixed, maybe the damage nerfs wouldn’t be so bad since my pet could actually do consistent damage. Before the nerfs, it wasn’t as big of a deal because a beastmaster pet did a lot of burst damage, but now.. this issue needs to be a top priority to fix.

How did the ranger get here?

There’s nothing we can do.. Anet hates rangers. I’ve officially quit my ranger. I was a tanky beastmaster running 0/0/30/20/20 and with the GIANT nerfs to my pets, I’m basically utterly useless. I LOVED my build and I loved that I could be tanky and still do a decent amount of damage through speccing into pet damage, but now there’s no point in playing my class like this anymore and if I can’t play my ranger the way I loved playing it, there’s no point.

Anet makes a motto like “play the game however you want to play it” and then nerfs the living kittening hell out of the way that I want to play the game..

Pretty much. The personal story in general is just a huge failure and Trahearne is ONE of the causes of that failure. (There’s a lot that I don’t wanna go into because it’s not related to the thread and I don’t want to write anymore essays tonight.)

I’m really sad that the Personal Story didn’t live up to the expectations we were given by Anet. :/ It happens though and I really can’t blame them. To be fair, GW2 is basically one of the first MMOs to use this type of “single-player in an MMO” system and they did well for it being one of the first of it’s kind. Looking at it from that point of view it’s not so bad, but overall how they made it out to sound and how it’s came out, the Personal Story system was one of the big failures of Guild Wars 2 in my opinion. I absolutely love ArenaNet and I understand how hard it is to really make a system like this work, but man for the future they really need to put more effort into the story writing. Seems like they kitten it towards the end, since there were so many branches of stories and I would honestly rather have quality than quantity. I don’t understand how they didn’t at least get it satisfyingly right after so many years of working on the game but hey I won’t question it and all I can say is I really hope they do better with these personal stories in the future or in their next game if they can’t change anything now with Guild Wars 2. Sad to say it really was a disappointment. :/

Other than that, bump. This post (OP’s, not my rant) is basically beautiful and I hope Anet reads it for reference to walk the walk next time they talk the talk.

I hate this community when it comes to Personal Stories.

Another thing, before you complain about how hard a Personal Story is, try actually gearing up to your level or actually getting up to the level of the Personal Story for that matter, maybe even a bit higher and I guarantee you shouldn’t have a single difficulty issue with these stupidly easy Personal Stories. -.-

If you’re finding it too difficult, just PvE outside the quest chain for a bit, level up and get better gear. Even though you’re scaled down for the quest your gear isn’t which will make things much easier. I find them too easy sometimes when I accidentally over level before continuing my storyline :p

This. Personal Stories are too EASY now. If people keep making posts like this, the game will be child’s play and stupidly easy. Go level up, gear up, and then try again instead of complaining on the forums. You watched videos? Chances are the people you watched who did those were actually geared up or leveled a bit higher than the quest and you’re probably not.

I hate this community when it comes to Personal Stories.

Since everyone has been complaining about personal stories for so long about how they’re SO hard because you died a few times or need a few friends to do them, because they’re actually a CHALLENGE, Anet has had to nerf most of these personal stories to absolute kitten. I’m extremely annoyed at how easy every boss fight and instance has been in my personal story, it’s disgustingly simple and easy to do and I don’t even blame Arena Net. It’s this stupid community who complains about every little thing they individually don’t like in the game and so if they die once or twice against a boss or fun instance or they may need friends to help them out occasionally, “QQ IT’S TOO HARD, ARENA NET PLEASE NERF”

Because of this community there’s not a single fun and challenging boss fight in the personal story (or mine anyways), everything is disgustingly easy and no challenge what so ever. Especially the level 70+ ones.. those should be at least a challenge since we’re approaching end game and I’m sure Anet already knows about how boring and easy Zhaitan is but nooo those are all nerfed to kitten as well.
My suggestion would be to make different difficulties available for people to choose while doing these personal stories, that way all these people who have to play the game on the option “Very super simple stupid easy” can play their game mode and I, along with all the other people who play this game MORE than just casually that I’ve met, can play with the challenge we want. The one and only appealing thing about the Personal Story has been the actual storyline. Everything else has been boring because of how simple and easy it is.
No hate towards Arena Net, just toward this stupid community who can’t handle a challenge and have ruined the Personal Story experience for many people by causing Anet to make the Personal Story stupidly boring/easy.

We need Outward Scaling, not just Upward.

Absolutely phenomenal idea and sounds like it’ll make DEs actually a lot more fun to do.

This implemented with a way to make players go to other zones end game besides Cursed Shore. (Maybe make unique rewards in more low and medium level areas that end game players need and make those Dynamic Events’ rewards in low/medium level areas scale to the level of the player) Oh lord the game just got 50x better with these two implemented together.

I really think Arena Net should implement a Platinum Medal for Dynamic Events which is one step up from the Gold Medal. This medal should only be given to the person/people who did the most amount of work in the event and it should be just a bit more experience and karma than the gold.

Now I realize that Arena Net has already been suggested this idea and turned it down because of wanting PvE to be completely cooperative/non competitive but let’s reopen the subject and look at it again.

1. It doesn’t cause competition between players to do better than the others, it causes players to do the best/most that they possibly can to contribute to the event and if they do the best/better than most others because they worked harder towards completing the event, they get a slightly (but significantly) better reward.
2. Only the person receiving the medal would know that they got that medal and contributed HIGHLY to that event so it wouldn’t cause resentment from other players or negative competitiveness.

Also from a completely noncompetitive few, sometimes there’s events that happen where you’re the only one around to do them and if you do a WHOLE event all by yourself, just getting a gold medal for it seems too insignificant of a reward and just doesn’t live up to the amount of time and effort you put into completing that event all by yourself.

I really feel like even though they want GW2 to be a completely noncompetitive game, there must be a little competitiveness here and there because that causes incentive to do well and having an incentive towards something creates interest and value towards that something. Having small little things like a Platinum medal to be earned would create overall more interest and immersion in the game.

TL;DR Achievements need to give more rewards besides titles because there’s so many that just don’t give anything besides Achievement points which aren’t really used for anything and players should have more incentive to pursue completing achievements.

Yesterday I was looking through the achievements lists and I kind of thought to myself, what’s the point of this? I mean sure it gives you achievement points which I guess you could show off to your friends in the way that you’ve done more things and are more experienced than they are.. but I don’t feel like that’s enough incentive to even really worry about achievements. They’re fun sure, but I feel like they should have more rewards. I also realize that some achievements give titles (which are also pretty unnoticeable and should be changed to be more flashy or important imo so they have more significance and worth), but what I mean is most of those achievements that just have tons of tiers and don’t really lead to anything in the end or just achievements that once you do them, they give you achievements points and that’s it.

For example, jumping puzzles are really fun and interesting to find, but still what’s the point of finishing them besides to get achievement points and a few items here and there? It doesn’t feel significant or important or even that useful in the slightest to get those small items and to get achievement points that make no actual difference in your game.. There’s not even a title for finishing all the jumping puzzles, which I always thought there was before I checked.

Now some might argue about the Daily and Monthly achievements being what I’m asking about and I say those are exactly the kind of things that should be implemented for other achievements! The box of awards you get is the only reason I even worry about doing my daily and it actually does give me incentive to do it even though the award is small (Depending on the achievement, they should give bigger rewards for completing those instead of the same as the daily rewards which are very small though). The monthly needs work though, they should give a bigger reward than the one given right now for the monthly since it’s actually a challenge to get.

I don’t know what kind of rewards Anet could give in relation to Achievements that wouldn’t be either broken or too simple, but I really feel like there should be some significant rewards for doing some of those achievements that don’t give titles. Personally I’m losing incentive to worry about my achievements just because I find no practical use in them or importance in getting achievement points and that’s disappointing to me because I really feel like the achievement system could be very exciting and fun if implemented to it’s full potential for PvE. It would give me something to work towards. I would start looking more for Jumping Puzzles and thinking about completing more achievements if there was something I could be working towards that had a decent amount of worth and value to me.

In conclusion, I realize the game is a work in progress and this is a big suggestion of mine to create more incentive to have fun in the game and work towards things in the PvE because incentive really creates interest and I want the PvE to be engaging and interesting all the way through rather than with most MMO’s, the rush to level 80 and then the focus on PvP and end game dungeons (which also need a lot of work and I’m sure Anet is on the ball to make those more interesting and “end-game” worthy).

P.S. Like I said, the titles really need work because those are an award that some achievements give, but it really just isn’t flashy or significant enough for anyone to care for them from what I’ve been seeing and I hear most of them are broken. I really really reaaaalllllyyyyy suggest giving the titles more significance, more visual quality, and more importance because that’s also an aspect of end-game and end-game is what the players stick around for right? I don’t want Guild Wars 2 to be the type of game that no one plays after hitting level 80 and messing around for a month of end game here and there, I want this game to be the type of game people stick around for until the next updates/expansions/“next best thing” and possibly even beyond that.

So it resets if you go to a different zone..? How is that even fair? Why the hell would they make it so if you go to a different zone, the (in my case) 70k exp I just gained got reset to 0? I thought it only reset if you died.. that’s utterly absurb and kitten beyond all reason. It’s hard enough getting that experience from multiple zones when you’re (in my case) only level 40, let alone only being able to get it from a single zone. I’m going to go punch a hole in my wall now, goodbye forums. Q_Q

Ascalonian Catacombs Ghost Eater Path glitched

The other day when me and my friends were doing AC Explorer mode and the Ghost Eater Path, first one of my friends d/ced and when we tried to get another friend to take his place, he wasn’t joining the same dungeon so we had to do a 4-man run. Then right before the Ghost Eater, we had to fight off waves of Ascalonian ghosts. Well it turns out that after we took two ghosts out on the second wave, we got wiped and when we came back the next wave had spawned in so there was eight ghosts and we just left the dungeon from there. There was no possible way to clear it with only four people who were barely clearing one wave, let alone two waves at once.

I put some tokens from my AC Explorer run a few days ago away in my bank. Then I did a run yesterday and when I went to go store those tokens in my bank, they wouldn’t stack with the ones I got from the previous run so now two separate slots of tokens that are the exact same and can’t stack. You should probably fix that Anet.. considering how much room that could take up if every runs’ tokens can’t stack.

I’ve been crafting all day and I’ve gotten it up to exactly 71,034 about to finish the 3rd tier and now it’s no longer counting all the experience I’m getting from crafting even though I haven’t died at all today. I’m pretty sure it’s a bug related to the Daily Achievement because it stopped counting after I finished my Daily a few minutes ago but this is EXTREMELY frustrating considering I’ve been trying to get it all month and through crafting I’ve almost finally finished it and it just reset on me for no good reason.. Really pisses off.. >.> Please clean up bugs like this.. not much I can do now. I give up on my monthly, I won’t be able to get it in time now without spending every single cent I have on crafting which I’m not gonna go out of my way to do considering the bug could kick my kitten again. GG Guild Wars 2. :’(

I mean if I was supposed to talk to them to be able to access the golems, it might sound a little silly that I didn’t know to do that considering the quest was about the golems.. but to be honest I expected the golems to either be right there visually if I was going to access them (which they weren’t), an ARMY of Risen to be there, not just a little squadron, so it would actually make sense to NEED to use the golems to fight, and some clear directions to use the golems instead of “Clear Risen in Courtyard” and no mention of the golems.

In the story I’m supposed to use golems to wipe out the Risen Army (which turned out to not really be an army, but a tiny squadron which is why I thought the golems would come later) in front of this keep. Well I couldn’t access any golems right out of the cutscene and I didn’t even realize until after I did the whole thing by myself (which was ridiculous because the quest wasn’t even designed to be a fight between me and the army, I was supposed to be able to control the golems to fight the army), that I was supposed to be controlling golems to fight for me. I thought maybe the golems came after so when the quest finished, I had a very big “wtf” moment..

Was my individual personal story just glitched? If I was supposed to be able to access them by talking to Iowerth or Kekt to be able to control them, the quest objective in the top right corner should be more clear and tell me to talk to them to be able to access the golems in the first place.

So yeah either it’s a bug with my personal story, or the quest should be more clear out of the cutscene..
