Compared to servers like SoS; or SoR. BG has not only better coverage but more sound strategies. Reason why SoS and SoR are both in T2 is purely because they have such a strong and dominant night squad being largely Oceanic based. However during the day both servers have NA guilds/players that love to throw games.
Thing is; T1 is a completely different beast than T2 and under. The strategies are more complex and the pressure on the wining team is a lot higher. 2v1s happen; BG has to look at the 2v1 with a level head and develop defense strategies and hell even watch what SBI does against 2v1s; instead of crying about it. Getting 2v1d in T1 is a rite of passage every T1 server has to deal with at some point; and learning to handle it is a huge weight off your shoulders.
That being said; when not being 2v1d BG does just fine; however I noticed a blatant lack of anything tricky. BG plays too standard, we were getting pounded by Mesmer portals last night during the BG|BL standoff at Arahs/LV/Keep. Also the server needs to better react to pressure better. I watched (Before I went to bed) keep get pushed to the wall but SBI fell back to take Arah’s while SE Gate was getting pushed in; instead of falling back to defend the wall the small zerg (15-20 players) went to intercept a lost cause at Arah’s wasting time; instead of falling back and properly defending/regrouping.
At the end of the day; as said before, BG has what it takes to be in T1, more so than Sea of Sorrows or Sanctum of Rall (Especially Sanctum of Rall; they are literally a zerg they have numbers and practically no strategy.) and Sea of Sorrows is a decent server with; shall we say it; fortunate, time zoning.
Wow, nice to see you know so much about SoS and SoR. I’m sure you’ve played against them quite a bit to be able to actually come to a conclusion about both servers. Also full analysis of BG. I’m glad you are keeping track of all three servers to be able to give conclusions and commentary about them.

Are people really QQing about not being able to exploit orbs? Really? Really?
Serious WvW servers will play BLs regardless. This just prevents exploiting. If your whole server gives up on BLs because they are boring, you don’t deserve to win your matchup.

INecro minions are supposed to aggro based on what you attack only, so if this particular minion is not following that rule that is the real problem. We are currently investigating it and will make any changes we think are necessary.
Thanks! I’ll be looking for this fix in the future patches cause my flesh golem is CRAZY. Can anyone confirm if jagged horrors still rez people or not?

How can people from SoR say they are outnumbered most of the time by SoS? From what I hear there is a full queue most of the time during primetime NA.
I’m sure depending on where you were and when and different perspectives, you can come up with the feeling that you are outnumbered. If ANET posts numbers on how many people were in WvW(avg) per time zone I doubt SoS was a lot more than SoR. SoS was stronger on EB and SoR BL while weaker on SoS and CD BL.
Against IoJ, don’t count yourselves short SoR. I don’t believe IoJ is all that better than SoS/SoR. If people log on and play WvW and we have coverage, why can’t we beat IoJ? In any case after HoD and ET goes down, it’s going to be fun every week in T1 and T2. We’re all going to have fun regardless.
I hope everyone on SoR stays on SoR and everyone on SoS stays on SoS so we can have a fun re-match.

Those people who are saying SoR NA is a lot better than SoS NA…I don’t see how you guys can say that. Most of the nights you guys have everything by the time people get home from work and have 3 orbs, most towers and most keeps upgraded and outnumber us. The days where we had everything, SoR NA had trouble getting any structures at all.
If SoS has a full queue against SoR full queue during any time zone, I think we are more than equally matched.

If SoS doesn’t win and stays close does that mean we go to T2 anyways? I don’t know if SoR or SoS is ready to go up against IoJ. Blackgate gets a week to farm blueprints and I’m glad they are out of T2 but I’m assuming IoJ is pretty strong all the way around.

@OP: It isn’t easy running away from a necro. You can slow them with mark then place a fear trap in front of them to fear them back to you. you also have scepter #2 which cripples. All this while they are bleeding.
Yeah like Karther says, don’t judge it by low levels. You need greater mark trait… It is impossible to miss if you have it.
If you really have issues in WvW running away, use SW. dumb people will chase you off cliff then just teleport back above the cliff, laugh and go about your ways.

The problem with giving advice that you’ve never actually tried is it usually doesn’t work. For example:
The fear mark doesn’t work that way. Fearing people will always run away from you, the position of the mark has nothing to do with it.
SW doesn’t work that way either, if you run off a cliff SW will not port you back on top of the cliff.

Sigh… SW does work that way. I use it all the time in WvW against zergs chasing me. Fear mark can be used to close distances. I’m not 100% sure but I think people run away from the “source of the fear”, which would be the trap in this instance: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fear. In any case it can be used to close distances.
^This is why people complain so much about necromancers being weak.

SoS is a great server. On Monday night we were crushing it. SoR seemed to be down and SoS seem to be coasting to a win. We were up about 10K in points. 400+ in PPTs and owned all of EB and SoR BL(except for couple supply camps). SoR couldn’t take any of our towers let alone the keeps in SoR BL.
Now after the Halloween patch it seems SoS has stumbled. I get PRX is angry because they have been extremely devoted to WvW and seeing all that effort and time and money wasted is heartbreaking. I think we all feel that. A lot of people have spent a lot of effort this match up. It sucks…
BUT, Lets not lose sight of the long term goal which is getting to T1. SoS has great potential. I think we can all agree to that. If we just try and play the next several days like we did on the weekends/Monday before patch, I’m sure we would be up on PPT every day.
Lets build SoS internally, no more transferring. Lets be apart of getting SoS to the top. Lets just try and do our best and even if we lose, so be it; at least we tried. A SoS call to arms would be scary…. very scary… Except for a few trolls, people actually listen and we do well when we band together.
Who gives a kitten if NA is better or Oceanic is better. That’s like saying my left foot is better than my right foot. You need 2 feet to walk.

@Indo. I think the NA players are pretty even matched. Remember before server reset we were well above +400 potential points last night. Then everyone saw candy corn and it was a lost cause.

Sorry, I should have told I meant it in spvp, as I like to do that.
But really, I thought most skills were pretty useless when I played my necromancer about a month ago. I thought weakness and other conditions were too weak to use. But after getting to know the game better with my elementalist, 10 seconds of weakness on off hand dagger is huge! That’s a lot of damage reduction.
You are right in that necros aren’t the best at throwing conditions on people. But you should win against another condition build. We have one of the highest HP pools and we are great at countering conditions. You can use it to heal or transfer(dagger #4, mark, signet of plague, etc). Corrupt boon is also really fun. In WvW I use corrupt boon, signet of spite, and epidemic. You can decimate zergs. In Spvp, I really like the mobility so I use corrupt boon, signet of spite/plague, SW. If you want to play in the back and bleed people then I would say go corrupt boon, BiP, Epidemic

Necros are still very deadly in WvW. I am sad about the SW patch… i was using it then switching to epidemic.
Also thieves are not as overpowered as everyone thinks. Necros eat thieves for lunch even with rendering issue. I do agree that thieves have better traits than necros.

There is already a solution to zergs. Ballistas, arrow carts, and catapults.
There is a big difference between a mindless zerg and a zerg being led with a purpose by a commander. Zergs are necessary to take keeps.

- Not when you have an organized defense. Even at 2:1 with supply runs with mesmer portals and portal bombs you can defend against a zerg.

Do you think thieves are overpowered in WvW and sPvP? I really don’t think thieves are overpowered in WvW once they fix the rendering issue. sPvP… thieves are really strong.

I rarely use staff #1 because it does suck. Weapon swapping is probably the most important thing on a conditionmancer. I don’t think it’s an issue because you don’t really want to stay in staff anyways. You are nerfing yourself by staying in staff. Staff #2-#5 are extremely strong for all its abilities. Use it switch to scepter dagger for dots then if you want you can go back to staff and respam #2-#5.
Yes Staff #1 sucks but it’s not that big of an issue.

I got over 1500 condition damage unbuffed… I don’t think you need to go over 1500…
I play WvW mostly and I make sure i have over 1500 condition damage, over 1500 toughness and over 22k HP.
Epidemic with over 1500 condition damage unbufffed is pretty awesome already. I don’t think you can go over 1800 unbuffed. I only have 2 pieces that are not condition damage, precision, toughness and I just have over 1500. Trinkets are all chryscola(I’m sure I spelled it wrong)

Tooth Stab is great. They hit you with tooth stab, you give it back to them while blinding them with dagger #4.

It’s a rendering issue. If you are suddenly getting hit with crits and you can’t see anyone. Spam AOE’s like crazy, thief dies… you laugh dot him up and watch him slowly bleed to death after he renders.

We all know WvW isn’t perfect(Rendering…argh), but that doesn’t mean it isn’t awesome and fun. Thanks to SoR/CD for a fun weekend. This was probably the most entertaining weekend of WvW for me.

going to say this as nicely as i can….i can 1v1 anything but a mesmer its a l2p issue or if your in wvw your probly not lvl 80 go scepter/dagger staff conditions build problem solved
It is really hard to judge how good a class is in WvW. TBH I have no issues when I play with my necro in WvW. I can tank and do a ton of damage and it is fun. It is also easy to play when you are fully geared with 1500+ toughness and 1500+ condition damage and I think I have over 22k hp.
I now have a lvl 80 thief. Lets just say that the current build I have on my thief will decimate any necro before they even realize it. Most of the people in WvW are pretty bad.
I do feel that compared to a thief… our traits are crap. I don’t think necros are anywhere at the top of the best classes list… though epidemic is fun as hell and we can basically survive and have fun with ds. I do think necro could use some nice buffing though. In WvW necros are decently strong just due to people dying all around you which allows you to generate life force quickly when you are condition build.

@drakor: How much WvW have you played? Give it some time and you will get the hang of it.
I think all classes have their strength and weaknesses when it comes to WvW.
I do think that range > melee for WvW. If you don’t like being a necro in WvW, I doubt you’ll enjoy any melee class. Staff is pretty useful in WvW. Staff skill 2-5 can do a lot of damage and it has great range and epidemic can destroy a small zerg.
If you want to just destroy people while in a zerg then you should re-roll elementalists. .. they are pro at spamming AOEs. I still believe that necros can stand their own against anyone in 1 vs 1. We really do have a lot of versatility I think.

I think most people are annoyed at the fact that patches aren’t tested. These patches introduce a lot of serious new bugs.
People now have a higher standard for games. This game I believe was released too early and wasn’t polished enough. I believe they wanted to come out before MoP and the customer suffered. There are a lot of people who left this game and didn’t complain at all. Just look at all the guild actives… I bet most of them are less than 50% of members.. more around 25%. I’m patient but gamers don’t have to be patient anymore.
With today’s gaming industry there are so many options for gamers to spend their time. People have a lot of great games to choose from. People will no longer waste their time on a buggy game.

First and foremost, I’m not that great of a player. I’ve gotten better but I’m by no means great at this game.
I have done a lot of the dungeons in this game and all of them have been with pugs. The skill level difference of people in this game is astronomical. I think when you are given infinite amt of repawns in your personal story you really can get by sucking and still get through.
As you level up, these personal stories need to teach people how to dodge and survive… if you die… You have to restart over… you can’t just respawn and start where you left off and finish the story. Sure it is frustrating, but people need to learn how to play thier character and the strength and weekness of their character.

I do think free world transfer is an issue but even if we stopped free world transfer, I still think we have huge issues with WvWvW most of the time.
This is a big problem that ANET needs to figure out how to solve. Friday night… can’t get in. Saturday night… can’t get in. Sunday, well we can’t win so why try?

First I must say that I really like the concept of WvWvW. It is really fun when everyone is working together and trying to achieve the same goal.
But it is hard to really enjoy WvWvW right now.
#1. During peak hours, you will be in queue for hours on end just to join any battleground
#2. After the first few days of WvWvW if the server thinks that they can’t win then nobody tries anymore. Resulting in nobody doing WvWvW. I’ve jumped into borderlands before where there was no green dots at all
I don’t know how you can fix #1, but for #2, we need some sort of rallying system. Something to entice people to join and fight back. It really isn’t fun fighting against a server that outnumbers you probably 20:1. While getting the outnumbered buff is great and all, you still can’t kill anyone if you are that badly outnumbered.
So the issue is at times there are too many people and you can’t play and other times there are too few people and you can’t play. I wish I can enjoy WvWvW at whatever time of the day and whenever I play. It is hard right now with the current system.

Speed runs are awesome. I hope they don’t fix TA. Why? Because ANET discriminates. When you can’t craft rabid gear and others like shaman but you can craft other people’s best gears the system is broken. This is a quick way for us to get rabid based gear. Farming sucks, farming is annoying, but farming is necessary due to discrimination.
Want something fun and challenging? Go to Arah or CoE. Let me farm plz. I’m not here for looks. I’m here for stats.

Thief is 8 abilitys on 8 professions.. Its weird that its a long fear. But their steal skills should be good because its their mechanic.. DS is really strong in comparison imo.
So after rolling a thief… I’m not entirely sure I agree here. Yes DS is pretty amazing, but you realize that steal acts as a teleportation skill + huge damage skill (Mug.. it hits like backstab) + boon skill if you spec it. Plus you get something great every time… there is no bad steal skill.
I think steal is on par with DS not sure if DS is better… both are great skills. Plus a thief can use a stealed skill + steal another one and use another skill right after each other if his cooldown is done…

I don’t think you should concentrate on a build… of course toughness is key against thieves. what you should try to learn is how a thief thinks. I rolled one to understand them and have no trouble killing thieves.
I think most thieves in pickup sPvP games are pretty horrible. They see a target and start spamming heartseeker. Probably people who just want to test it out. Once in a while you run into a really great C&D backstab thief. DS + chill is your friend here. Plus I used to have issues with thieves when I didn’t know how to use a staff properly. For C&D to be effective they actually have to reach you. Spam traps around you and I would purposely jump into my traps and he gets chilled or feared… also dagger #4… blind Best thing ever. Oh yeah you wanna dodge too against a good thief… if you stand there you are dead. Dodge when he is stealth so he can’t get a back backstab off on you.
I usually run staff and scepter/dagger… i find it great against all classes especially thieves.
You have two chills (staff trap and DS)
You have cripple (scepter #2)
You have blind and condition transfer (dagger #4)
You have 2 fears (staff and DS… yes they are short but effective against a thief, I want them to be desperate and waste heartseeker while I’m close to full HP… baddies)
If you really have issue with thieves use SW or SA.
Remember with toughness build, heartseeker hits for 2K ish. If you should be able to survive. If you see him spamming heartseeker, just dodge or throw fear trap on top of you. Or just hit him with blind… lots of options.

This is my understanding of instances. Usually the instance belongs to whoever enters the instance first. Now when that person leaves the group it does I believe get passed to someone else in the group. However when someone else joins who was part of another 1/2 finished instance of the same kind I think there might be issues. But I believe we’ve had the person leave then invited a new person who hasn’t run at all during that day or completed his old run and he was able to join and finish the runs.

What’s everyone’s favorite look on their necro. I think I’ve come up with my perfect combination but am interested in what others are thinking.
Head – Arah(Pefect fit for Necros)
Shoulders – Arah
Chest – Arah
Gloves – CoF
Pants – CoE
Boots – CoF
Staff – CoE(Ta comes in second)
Scepter – TA(i really hate all scepter skins)
Dagger – Arah(CoF is a close second then TA)
My issues:
#1.) Why are most of the pants skirts? I hate skirts. I want more pants options…
#2.) I’m not impressed with any of the staff skins.
#3.) Overall visual particle effects… they are extremely lacking compared to WoW.

Thieves’ heartseeker hits for like what? 2k? I have about 19k hp and 2k toughness. Rabid gem with undead runed armor. I went 30 traits in toughness. With DS you should win against thieves every time… unless they use thieves guild then it gets trickey. If they spam heartseeker when they see you(assuming you have full HP) they are idiots. Good thieves use C&D followed by backstab.
They can stealth for what? max 4 seconds with a 2 second revealed debuff.(they can stealth for longer with that stealth circle so just jump out of it and aoe the circle.) I spam traps by me and chill them + fear them then dot them up. They are so squishy. If you don’t have DS for that second fear and chill, you will have a tougher time with a good thief.
I think necros are a great counter class to thieves. We can have high armor and high hp pools… with DOTS thieves are screwed. They really don’t have a great mechanism to remove conditions. A crippled and chilled thief = free kill.

It’s not grindy to get top stat gear, i fully agree and this post has nothing to do with it, if you don’t have the time/attention span to read a post to the end, don’t bother posting a reply.
The point of this post is that it’s extremely unrewarding to play the dungeons you want to play opposed to grinding the same dungeon over and over AND it keeps you from playing with your friends if you have different gear goals.
Problem is then everyone is going to do the easiest/fastest dungeons to get gear for all the harder dungeons. What’s the two hardest dungeons right now? CoE and Arah? If I can do TA and CoF and collectively get 360 tokens from those two runs and trade it in for Arah gear, it would kitten off all the people who worked hard to achieve finishing Arah. So I’m not sure how this would work.

I will take your word for it. I will experiment a bit more later tonight when I get home. My new rotation would be BiP, spam all traps on target then switch to scepter/dagger and when I do that I do get extra might stacks due to offhand weapon sigil and then spam all my weapon skills. Going to test the effect of this 10 stacks of might.

No, 30 seconds is the cooldown of the skill. You have might for 12 seconds.
Oh gotcha so it is 12 seconds every 30 seconds. That’s still a lot. Haven’t PvPed yet with this new patch. Just did a little bit of testing last night.

I feel that skill incredibly powerful, it actually stands out from the average useless Necro skills.Seriously, it applies 2 bleed (+2 on you transferible) stacks plus gives you 10 stack of might which actually increases the condition damage of an amazing 300 points (30 damage per tick if I’m not wrong).
Who can say that skill is useless or it is a nerf? I think that now it is a must on every Burst/Condition build bar.
You are wrong. The Math has been done to death. Its 350 condition damage, and you only get 5% of that. so its 17.5 more damage a tick.
Also no such thing as burst conditions. That just how conditions work.

However 17.5 more damage per tick isn’t insignificant, it can make a difference considering how fast bleed ticks.They tick 1 per sec. So even with a stack of 10 bleeds that’s 175 damage more per sec. That is a very sad gain in dps. So lets say they last for the full 14 sec.
175*14= 2450 damage increase over that time.
So saying that your could hit 10 stacks instantly (you can’t) and it stay on the target for that long (most of the time it will not, and lets not forget the 25 bleed stack limit) your looking at 2450 more damage.

In all honesty though I do like the change… Sure I realize at the beginning of sPvP matches I’m a little kittened but after I charge up my life force I feel a lot more powerful now. I think this is a plus for sPvP… maybe it is different for tPvP. Maybe they should add 5% life force when used in addition to might to satisfy everyone. 20% was a lot… maybe we just need to tune it down.

So I’ve been testing this new ability on a dummy. I have 1500 condition damage in PVP. If I use Blood is power without switching weapon I get 135dmg/tick. If I switch weapon during it it ticks for 140… is this a bug… or am I missing something? I have the same amount of condition damage on staff as I do on scepter/dagger since there are no stats on weapons…

And yes you can apply some of the other conditions via corrupt boon and using their own conditions against them via dagger4 and plague signet and some other skills. But that only works if the opponent is running a condition or boon build. Conditionmancer shouldn’t be effective ONLY against other boon or condition classes. That’s bad class design.
That’s a good point Yuki… it’s always tough for me to decide which utility skill to use too. I feel EXTREMELY dependent on utility skills during sPvP, more so than weapon
I debate between these all the time:
Corrupt Boon(I almost think this is essential now in sPvP)
signet of plague
signet of spite(do people use this for sPvP? If we add burn to this would people use it more?)
blood is power
epidemic(I feel like you need to have blood is power if you wanna use epidemic)
spectral walk(speed boost is always nice)
I realize during battles I would wish I had one or the other with me instead of something else all the time.
I think I’ve come to the conclusion of sPvP: corrupt boon, signet of plague, spectral walk. For WvW: blood is power, epidemic, spectral walk.
Don’t know if there anything more effective…I’ve been in love with spectral walk for a while now… so it seems I must have it.
